Re: Here is the Text of the User Manual for the Nearby Explorer, for iOS, GPS Navigation App
I have been happy with the app since downloading it over a week ago. The only thing driving me crazy is my inability to silence its wonky sound effects. Since I do not recall hearing this particular noise in the podcast, I am mystified as to how to shut it off. If anyone has any information, please let me know. Thanks much in advance. It should have been obvious that what I intended to state was that I wanted to know the side of the street of the destination. Not sure why anyone would need GPS to inform them if they (the person traveling) are on the left or right side of the street. Also, I might be deafblind or there might be several other reasons why one would prefer this feature. Mainly, it exists in other GPS apps and I like it. I do not use GPS to travel to familiar locations. If the map identifies the side of the street for specific addresses, it should be included in the information available to a blind user if possible. If I did not already own a solution where it is available, I might purchase this with faith that it might be added in the future. Re: Braille displays
I would like to jump in for some opinions from those who have purchased a Braille Pen, RefreshaBraille or the Perkins nottetaker: I want a Braille display, solely for purposes of reading iBooks and Read to Go Books on my iPhone. I have always preferred Braille, and miss it terribly, though I am thrilled to be able to download a newspaper and listen as I commute. As far as I am concerned, I just want something simple and straightforward for this purpose. Please feel free to write me off-line about this, and if anyone has a link for information comparing the less expensive, lightest-weight, portable Braille displays, I would appreciate getting it. Thanks. (I don't care much about input on the display, just output.) Very odd mail server issue
Happy holidays to all those celebrating. I am perplexed about something which has been happening almost every time I try to send mail for the first time after a significant inactive period -- say a few hours. I write a message from within Apple mail, and when I send it, a dialog comes in telling me I must enter my password. It has a box to check for "keep this password in my keychain" which I always check. Then everything is fine for a while. This happens both at work and at home. It started a few weeks ago for no apparent reason. My settings have not been changed. Any ideas? Thanks. Re: bookshare and mac?
Maria, you can also get a free file extractor called the unarchiver. Download and install it, then when you download a bookshare Daity title, you open the unarchiver, put in your bookshare password, and it extracts the file just as on a PC. You can then read the book in Safari or other preferred web browsers which otherwise work with VO. Why Does Spotlight Suddenly Stop Working?
The subject basically says it all. About ten percent of the time, when I attempt to use Sotlight, it just doesn't work. Whatever is on the screen at the time is spoken -- I have to restart the Mac in order for Spotlight to work again. Sometimes, it will work successfully a few times in a row, then when I try to use it, nothing. Has anyone experienced this, and if so, is there a better way than restarting the computer to get it to work properly again? Thanks. OT: Any Web Designers Out Here?
Hi there, everyone. I'm hoping someone can assist with something. In a nutshell, there is a site, http://www.yourmorals.org which enables you to take surveys on fascinating and intriguing aspects of morality. After you take the surveys, there are often color-coded and otherwise graphical representations of your scores as compared to others who took the surveys. Most results are therefore inaccessible. I wrote to the webmaster and received no reply, and I wrote to the man many of whose studies are discussed at this site, Professor John Haidt. He did respond, stating that it had never occurred to him that people with "limited sight" would be able to take their surveys, that it is an interesting consideration, but that he does not think anything can be changed until they get more money for updated web design. Is this the sort of thing which is really that expensive and time-consuming? I don't know enough about it, so would appreciate off-list feedback -- I can send anyone who wants more information the correspondence in question. It's one of those things that really could be, and should be, open to us, with the technology which is at our disposal. blindmicemegamall movie vault and illegal file-sharing allegation
Naturally, if the moderator deems this discussion verboten, I will refrain further, but I would feel remiss not to point out the following for consideration: 1. As of several hours ago, there was nothing on the FBI's official web site regarding an investigation, nor were there any press releases or other comparable references to an investigation of the movie vault. A reference would be appreciated; mere speculation or rumor could be deemed libelous. 2. The problem industries have with illegal file-sharing is loss of revenue. Since, at least in the United States, there is virtually no way to purchase audio-described movies or television shows, the industry is not being cheated of revenue. 3. The files are straight audio, with no ability, for example, to "watch" with sighted peers while having the benefit of the audio description. This is not at all remotely similar to downloading a film for the family to watch. That being said, the vast majority of the sighted community does this with impunity, even though many of the shows and movies they download can be seen for free when they are are shown on television. We, on the other hand, cannot even enjoy full access to these shows when they *are* on television. Either they are not audio-described at all, or it is not easy to turn on the secondary audio channel, or a particular station only carries foreign language broadcasts on the SAC rather than audio description. Comparing access to audio-described movies and shows in mp3 format to the type of file-sharing which goes on 24/7 on hundreds and thousands of sites is a stretch. 4. If the government and/or the involved industries wish to do something about the existence of resources like the movie vault, the former should mandate, and the latter should provide a market from which we can obtain these items. I have been able to watch a non-described movie with others after listening to an mp3 file and tell another blind person what is going on thanks to that previous experience. My two blind children have been able to enjoy fare which their peers enjoyed months or years ago. Until the entertainment industry levels the playing field, I will utilize resources like the movie vault with the same guiltless pleasure I take in bookshare.org (and, by the way, it is possible to download books from bookshare.org which are available commercially.) We cannot use the Kindle as others do. WE cannot use the Nook. We are severely limited in what we can access independently when it comes to entertainment, and we must even still fight for access to education at every level, despite technological advances. Holding us to the same standards as the vast majority of illegal file-sharers is legally, morally, and economically inequitable. Re: blindmicemegamall movie vault and illegal file-sharing allegation
With all due respect, Scott, laws which disparately impact certain groups or classes of people have been flouted through civil disobedience since the introduction of legal systems, e.g., civil rights, disability rights, employment rights, etc. The United States might not exist were it not for disobeying laws. I am an attorney, and it continues to amaze me how slowly the U.S. is moving to accommodate disability, and how snail-paced the societal shift in attitudes toward us has been. and it seems that whenever a company like Apple makes great strides in accommodating blindness off the shelf, plenty of other technologies come along and do not bother to incorporate us into their equation. So many educational apps, for example, are not accessible, though they could be, and given the push now to have iPads in classrooms, once again blind, visually impaired, and otherwise print-disabled students will be left out. Apple moves us two steps forward, and "progress" (for others) moves us three steps back. I should be able to turn on a television, flip a switch, or turn on a transmitter, and get descriptions. I should be able to access books on the Nook or the Kindle, not just iBooks. I cannot express, and I am sure others here agree, the happiness I feel when a new release or best-selling publication is available on iBooks. (Incidentally, if a book is available on iBooks and on bookshare.org, I purchase the book. Yet, I have lost quite a lot of money as a published author -- as soon as my book was published, I sent a copy to bookshare.org; it was more important to me to have it available at the same time to the blind and print-disabled. The Authors Guild apparently does not care about such access, despite the fact that they would actually get money from us.) I would happily go to the movies more and happily purchase audio-described movies through iTunes if they were available. Even movies which are released with audio description are not always sold through movie resellers -- goodness knows I have tried. To date, I have only located The Incredible Hulk, from 2008, which I purchased for my son. Even Apple could do more. It could strengthen its requirements for apps. It has provided developers with the means to make their apps VoiceOver accessible, and there are plenty of apps out there which could be so. Only apps that are visual by their very nature should be exempted. But, as usual, profit trumps people, despite the fact that the disabled community rewards those who remember us with our business. Frankly, I would prefer to purchase the audio-described movies and shows I download from the vault, so that I could watch them with sighted friends and family. I wish I could show a film to a class and not have to ask my para or a student to tell me what is going on. The entertainment industry gets plenty of my money. If they want more, they should remember that I deserve to be able to access their material independently. OK. Topic over. Those of you who wish to continue this off-list are welcome; I've appreciated your correspondence thus far. Re: blindmicemegamall movie vault and illegal file-sharing allegation
Because many of the educational platforms used by schools and apps out there are not VoiceOver accessible. I was initially ecstatic at the push for the iPad, rather than something like the Kindle being used in classrooms. But my daughter, who has an iPhone, has been stymied more than a few times by educational apps which are not VoiceOver accessible. Apple could certainly require that all educational apps be made VoiceOver accessible before they can be placed in the app store. (I have heard, though secondhand, that some demonstrations of the iPad have included Apple-designed educational apps which are graphically rich but not accessible. I have been trying to get more information on this.) Re: blindmicemegamall movie vault and illegal file-sharing allegation
It is such a wonderful experience to be able to sit down with my son and listen to the mp3 of one of his favorite movies and have him not ask, "Mom, what do you think is going on?" I watch movies I saw years ago and realize things I missed. It makes a difference, and would have really been significant when I was a kid and teenager to go to a movie with friends and not have to rely on someone else to tell me what was going on. I'll have both. The government need not provide anything except a law mandating availability. I think we should have sighted people only have access to audio devices for one week, but with every other one of life's amenities to which they are accustomed. After all, seeing action is a luxury. Re: blindmicemegamall movie vault and illegal file-sharing allegation
There was a protest and a petition, and call for a class action suit. What the Authors' Guild is doing is relying on a copyright law which says that the "reading" of a book is not the same as the print -- therefore the Kindle would be "violating" the "performance violation" -- in other words, the synthesized voice is compared to a human narrator, and therefore the price should reflect this, as in audible.com. It's actually an argument which might stand up in court, so the efforts have been relegated to changing legislation to prevent the argument from being utilized in this instance, and fighting universities and other institutions which are using Kindles, and which therefore leave the print-disabled out. Of course, this is just as expensive and probably will take just as long, and doesn't generate as much public attention. I myself have never participated in a class action suit, and since I work full-time teaching, it would be difficult for me personally to coordinate such an effort. But it irks me tremendously that the disabled rights organizations here, including the two major voices in rights of the blind, are not doing more about this. It is a tremendous, aggravating thorn in the sides of those of us who would like to utilize a Kindle with the same degree of freedom as the rest of the public who can read the printed screen. Another problem is that there are so many other issues now, economically and educationally, that this fight will get lost amid the tumult. I intend to try to revisit this issue with others after the 2012 Presidential election has been decided. There are many sites which now have an audio capcha, but there are plenty which do not have this. On some, you cannot even contact anyone via an email contact form without solving a capcha. Excedingly odd and frustrating problem filling out WEb nform at snapple.com
Hello, all. I am trying to fill out a Web contact form at Snapple. It seems that all pop-ups and radio buttons are selecting correctly, but all edit boxes for name, address, phone number, and comments are not taking my inputs. I have tried interacting, writing the information elsewhere and cutting and pasting, and just inputting directly. Either VoiceOver is not reading what I am putting in the edit boxes, or my entries are not being accepted. Obviously, I cannot contact them to let them know of this. :) Could someone please take a look and let me know what you think? TIA. Re: Excedingly odd and frustrating problem filling out WEb nform at snapple.com
I'm running Snow Leopard, and I did try this, but it didn't work. However, my husband suggested clicking the mouse before writing anything. This worked. In fact, when I made an error, I had to hit the mouse in order to select and delete. Everything else on the site worked as usual. This seems an odd issue. Is there an alternative to the mouse click? (Also, nothing I typed was echoed back as I did so; I had to back-track to check. Just because this kind of thing interests me, does anyone know what might cause this issue? Is it an SL bug? A fluke? Re: iBird
I have a question as well. The information for the app stated you could search by bird sound -- but this implies there is a place in the app where one can browse bird sounds. I cannot find such a place. Any help is appreciated. Valiantly Trying -- And Miserably Failing -- To Post on Wordpress.com
Good day/night to all. I have a blog on wordpress.com, and typically, every few months, I have to experiment to figure out how to post because of changes made to the layout of the add new post screen. With some trial and error, I have been able to do this for several iterations of wordpress.com "upgrades". However, tonight I am stumped. Where most recently, there was an edit box under "Enter title here," and then another right afterwards into which either one wrote or inserted a prewritten post, I cannot for the life of me locate the proper editing field for the post contents. I have tried several edit boxes, and all result in the appearance of the text, but a word count of zero, and no appearance of the post except for the title upon publication. I do notice one edit box that is dimmed, and I refreshed the screen, left Safari and came back in and started things up again, and tried clicking on the dimmed edit box several times. If anyone is on wordpress and can give me a clue as to what to do, I would appreciate it oh so much. I am using a Macbook with Snow Leopard. TIA. Re: Valiantly Trying -- And Miserably Failing -- To Post on Wordpress.com
Hi, Maria and Ricardo. Thanks for the tip about Mars edit, but I am confused. The only problem I am having is locating the proper edit field out of the many into which to paste a prewritten, pre-edited post I write in either Text Edit or in Apple Mail. How will Mars edit help with this? Thanks. Christine On Jun 4, 2012, at 9:27 AM, Ricardo Walker wrote: > Hi, > > I suggest investing in Mars edit. Its completely accessible. Re: uninstalling chrome
Hi Kimsan, yes or at least that what I would do. Go to the application folder, find google crome, bring up the context menu wit VO shift M, go down to delete close the window with Command W, then just command shift and the backspace key to empty the trash. All done and dusted! Just out of interest, why do you want to get rid of crome? I am thinking the same in the beginning when I used it it was accessible but lately I have found that Say all is broken you can't edit edit fields promptly due to me having my typing curser always to the right and finally I noticed serious slowness in typing in edit boxes. The only thing I like about it is that its really fast at loading pages! Why are some of my messages being sent out with no problem, while others are getting a "cannot send message using this server" message? I'm having trouble determining if I can upgrade my MacBook. On the tech specs page, it seems to indicate that only the aluminum MacBooks can be upgraded (along with Mbp, Mb Air, Mb Mini, and iMac). Am I Missing Something Regarding New Voices?
Hey, folks. Ever since I got my MacBook, I stuck with Alex because I did not really like any of the other voices. I understood that aside from Alex, Bruce, Fred, Cathy, Vicky, and Victoria, any other voices would have to be downloaded and/or purchased from other sources. I was not even aware I could have a different accent. I went into the VoiceOver utility just now, and checked out Speech, and this still seems to be the case. What am I missing? Where are other voices, and how can I, if desired, change the accent? Thanks. Christine -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Busy, busy everywhere
Since installing ML, I am noticing a huge increase in "busy" messages in Mail, Safari, Finder -- everywhere. Exceedingly annoying. Sometimes, toggling VO off and on helps, but often not. Also, I've noticed that whenever I have to use VO space for anything, it almost always requires a second or third press. Thoughts? Experiences? Work-arounds? TIA. Exceedingly frustrating problem trying to attach file to e-mail
OK, so I've got a few pdf's in my downloads folder, and I want to place them in Documents so that I can attach them. Going into preview with ML, I went into the file menu and tried Save, but it isn't giving me the ability to change the name and save them in documents. So, I tried going to the sidebar when interacting with the tool bar, to attach, but each time I try to move over to "Today" for files which were open today, I get a "mail busy" and I get knocked into the headers fields. In the list of places where I wish to select files, I do not see a choice for downloads folder. I have tried selecting and copying the files from downloads into documents -- but it will not work. I am at my wit's end. Any ideas would be helpful; I have been trying to find a workaround for over an hour, and I am rather fed up. TIA. Oh, Another Frustrating Thing
Spotlight is not working as it did in SL. Every time I hit vo plus M three times rapidly, I hear "menu extras" -- and when I try to interact to get more information, it says "sync menu extra" and does nothing more. Is there some file or other I can read that will spell out these issues/changes for me. When I looked at some information about Ml, I saw nothing about this stuff. G. What on earth is this new oddity: where are my windows?
If I have Safari and Mail, open, as an example, I should be able to switch between them. However, as soon as I open a new application, and then try to switch back, I have to keep going to the dock and going to the application and choosing it again. Since updating ML, until today, I was successfully switching between open applications. What's up with this? Bookshare update
Hello all. Last night, I wrote about some downloading issues with bookshare, but in fact, there was no problem -- there was simply no way to tell that the download occurred, as there had been in the past. They did occur, however. As far as reading bookshare books in Daisy, the .xml file reads quite well in Safari. Meanwhile, I just received an e-mail from Bookshare stating that downloading will soon be more streamlined: essentially, one will be able to choose their download file preference (which can be changed at any time), and a pop-up menu will replace the current list of icons for downloading daisy with images, daisy, brf, audio, and mp3. Also, your history will by default contain thirty days of download history, but you can change the filter to look further back. If you are in the U.S. and a student in primary or secondary school, it costs nothing; you merely need to prove that you have a print disability. If you are not a student in elementary, middle, or high school, however, the subscription cost is $50 per year. I use it so often that this price is worth it to me. I am not sure of any restrictions with regard to non-U.S. subscribers. Re: Bookshare update
Didn't know that; I frankly haven't looked at the membership info since joining five years ago. :) This makes me very happy, since my daughter is off to college next year and her brother will follow suit in a few years. I love bookshare almost as much as I love my iPhone and my Mac. I often find myself feeling a tad envious of my kids; I would have had such a completely different experience growing up with the wealth of information these resources provide. Just two examples: not receiving my Braille textbooks on time would not have made much of a difference if I had bookshare and/or iBooks, and reading children's and young adult books, let alone newspapers at the same time as others, would have meant the world to me, as it does today. Re: reading Bookshare with Safari was a disaster
I've read bookshare books in Safari since installing ML, and haven't had a problem. To be perfectly honest, though, I take what I guess is the lazy way out -- I essentially note a page or phrase and then search for it when I reopen later. I've never tried using webspots, bookmarks, or anything like that. Although it doesn't work for me in attachments, vo space works most of the time if you hold it down for a second, and then release. Since I started doing this, it's reliable 95 percent of the time. LOL. That happened when I tried to download from bookshare. OK, here's the weird thing. If I go to the dock, then arrow over to Downloads, then use vo M to interact with the list of downloads in the folder, select things I want to delete, and then hit delete, it does not work. However, if I manage to get to the Downloads folder right in Finder, which for some reason I cannot always do, files delete. Why the difference? Re: REally getting p/o'd with trying to search Mac with ML
Tim, do me a favor. Either here or in a private message, describe how it is displaying for you when you put in a search term in Spotlight. I get a "show in finder" which doesn't seem to do anything, followed by a list of finds. However, when I try to choose one of the finds, it disappears, and I then am faced with "search for (search term or phrase) on the Web, followed by the same for WikiPedia, etc. I can never get back to the original list or open any finds; if I switch to finder, it only shows whatever finder window was open before I started. Re: Knowing when there are attachments
Don't know about that, but I use classic view, and if you know, or suspect, that there is an attachment, go down to the very bottom of the text in the message and if you see "imbedded" followed by a file title and size, there's your attachment. Another way to check is to go into the context menu, and see if you get a choice of "open attachment" or "save attachment". OK: 1. If you are interacting with the text, and you have located the imbedded attachment(s), pressing vo shit M will bring up choices which include opening or saving the attachment(s): although I confess to not being able to select and save "all" or more than one attachment using this method. 2. Another option is, from within the message, but not having to be on the imbedded attachment, hit vo plus M, right arrow to the file menu, and you will see "save attachments" as a choice, or "Quick Look" if you prefer. Re: Easiest Way to Read Bookshare Books in Mountain Lion
I don't know whether this is only true of the newest additions to bookshare (over the last year or so) but lately when I download bookshare books, no unzipping is required. I just seek out the title and the .xml extension, and it opens in Safari when I hit enter. Is no one else experiencing this? Harry, I know in your case, you are dealing with previously downloaded books which you desire to open. A workaround, if you simply cannot get the unarchiver to work, is to redownload the book you wish to read from your book history. Hopefully, what I discussed above will then apply, and you will have your xml file all ready to go. Obviously, depending on the number of books you have, this may not be desirable as far as redownloading all of your book history, but you could do it one by one, as needed. Exceedingly scary and confounding problem with on-line banking account
Since upgrading to ML, I have paid some bills with my on-line banking site with no problems whatsoever. Today, though I was able to log on successfully multiple times, as soon as I attempted to do *anything* on the site, I was thrown off, and a "problem report" came up. When I tried to quit out of Safari and go back in again, there was the banking site, with the log-in page, waiting for my information again. I first closed all windows and tried again. No luck. I rebooted and tried again. No luck. I called my bank to ensure that no one besides me was attempting to log in. They said my log-ins were being recorded, and that only one IP address was recorded. Phew! I was then told to go in Security, uncheck Java script, but check Java, and uncheck "allow plug-ins". Then I was told to go to "empty cache" -- but I could not find this animal. The bank's tech rep said it should be the seventh choice down in the Safari menu, but I did not find it. The only thing I could find was "clear history" -- but could not find cookies, or clearing cache, etc., When I logged onto the account on my husband's Mac, all went fine. But no such luck on mine. What is going on? Any ideas? Is it okay to leave the Java, java script, and plug-ins as suggested by the bank rep, or should I return to default settings to avoid problems on other sites? I looked in Safari preferences, and under the Privacy tab, there is references to which cookies to allow, but I did not see any option for clearing them. Re: Exceedingly scary and confounding problem with on-line banking account
I did go into reset Safari, kept checked anything and everything I thought might help -- I did not see reference to emptying caches, cookies, or anything resembling that. I reset top web sites; reset history; unchecked saved names and passwords; I think I left only two or three things unchecked. Still, when I go into my bank's web site, it dumps me as soon as I get to the log-in page, or right after logging in. It is literally the only web site where I have experienced this; I cannot replicate it anywhere else where I must log in. Clearly is something about my computer, though, not the bank, not Safari, not VoiceOver. Christine P.S. My husband has not upgraded to ML, so that is the one and only difference I can think of. Re: Exceedingly scary and confounding problem with on-line banking account
I have a feeling that is what is wrong. I just used Spotlight to bring up Java preferences and agreed to install the new certificate. Hopefully, once it does its thing, I will not have any issues doing whatever else is required, and can try the banking site again. If anyone has run into this, or knows someone who has, let me know. Went into Java preferences, and there appear to be some edit boxes which I have no clue how to handle. Ricardo, thank you for telling me how to empty caches. There was no way to tell whether it did so -- it said "empty caches" when I hit command option E, but that was it: no choices, check boxes, etc. Is this what is supposed to occur? Also, I did try resetting Safari the other night when I initially reported the issues with the banking site. However, I still cannot locate anything resembling cookies in the Safari security tab. I officially surrender -- after updating the Java certificate, emptying caches, clearing cookies, resetting Safari, and clearing all WEb site data, my banking site will not allow me to stay on and do anything after successfully logging in, and sometimes will not even allow me to do that. Re: Bookshare, Unarchiver, after ML
Have you tried seeking the .xml file and opening it in Safari? That's how I read it on the Mac. Haven't touched my Victor Stream since the Mac, and my iPHone with Read2go. I would suspect the transfer to the data card works the same way, though. On Aug 19, 2012, at 6:08 PM, Mary Scott wrote: > I just tried opening a Bookshare book with the Unarchiver. Re: Bookshare, Unarchiver, after ML
There are a number of ways I have done this: 1. Typically, the titles are partial titles with the extensions, and the slightest differentiation in spelling will not find them for you, so you could use spotlight, finder, etc., to search for files with the extension .xml -- typically, the most recent one will show first. 2. Go into whatever folder you have the book in, and look for it. If the .xml file isn't there, open the folder with the book's title, and arrow down until you find the .xml file. Hitting enter should open Safari and place you at the top with the Bookshare notice. 3. Of course, if you know the truncated title, write that with the .xml extension in spotlight, and it should come up. I am sure there are more tech-savvy ways to do this, but these are what work for me. I've noticed that over the past year or so, newly uploaded books which I download from Bookshare have an XML file available, and I don't have to run unarchiver or put in my password. With some older books, I still have to. I never know which will be the case until I've downloaded a book and attempted to open it. Re: Bookshare, Unarchiver, after ML
The Stream's battery lasts longer, but I like having fewer gadgets to carry around with me. The Read2Go app also costs about twenty dollars, but if you read a lot, it is so worth it. I also read a newspaper or two each day with my iPhone from booksahre. I find FB really useful for keeping in touch with family and friends across the country, but I am seriously considering at least truncating my friends' list. Netflicks issue: changing order in queue
Good day/night all. I am hoping someone can assist with a frustrating Netflicks issue. It used to be a siple matter of hitting delete and inputting the number where you want to place the movie. However, although hitting "queue move" will take whatever movie I am vocusing on to number one in the queue, whenever I interact with the movie number edit box, I get tossed out of Netflicks, or nothing at all happens. Is there I am doing wrong, or if not, is there a workaround to rearrange my queue without having to remove something and then add it again? Thanks in advance. Cross-post: Trying to get iPhone pics to act/print as jpegs
My understand is that the iPhone saves pictures taken on it as jpegs, but when I attach and send them, they're arriving as .dat files. Changing the extension is not helping. It is suspected that something is happening during their trip through e-mail servers. (Both sides in this instance use g-mail.) Does anyone have a solution for this? This is a time-sensitive project. Pics originally sent from another's iPhone to me via e-mail as attachments; I then downloaded to my Mac, then sent them as attachments using my Mac to someone with a Windows coputer. Where in Hades did my notifications go on Facebook?
I checked on both m.facebook.com and the main site, but cannot figure out how to get to my notifications. I used to receive all of them via e-mail, but this has mysteriously stopped, though I still receive e-mails if a friend likes one of my links or sends me a message. Combo box driving me crazy
All right, all, here's another (probably Safari) problem. I'm trying to purchase a Harry and David gift card: http://www.harryanddavid.com There is a combo box where you must select (or potentially write in, I guess) the desired value of the card. However, I've tried interacting, hitting VO space, hitting enter, Vo enter, Vo shift space, and so on, but all I'm sometimes getting is "text select gift card price" -- with no list of choices and no edit box. I've tried writing in a value at the combo box announcement and the "text select gift card price" but nothing happens. Any suggestions, other than sighted assistance? :) Christine -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Sharing files with another user on my Mac
Good morning/afternoon/evening, and happy holidays to those celebrating. I am having trouble figuring out how to allow my son access to some of my iTunes files from his user account which I set up on my Mac for him; I set up his iPod Touch and connected to iTunes via his account on my Mac. But I would like him to be able to use Spotlight to search for particular files on my user account, then copy them into a playlist for himself. on his iTunes account. Is this possible? I tried figuring out how to set up a group, thinking that if he and I were in a group in preferences, we could do all of the same things. Though I trust my son, I do not want him to be able to act as an administrator, or access my e-mail, or change my files. Is there a way for him to access only my iTunes library from his account and import into his? I've set up iCloud for him but have not explored how to use it; I haven't bothered to work with it for my own purposes. Ideally, once I've got that figured out, he will be able to work with his media on his PC, my computer, his father's, sister's, or stepfather's computers at will. While we are assisting him learning how to use his iPod Touch, however, he will use my computer. Could someone get me started in facilitating this process, please? Thanks so much. Thanks, Colin -- unfortunately, this is not working. Underneath the unlabeled button, both before and after I click on it, is my name, and if I continue to right arrow, the same information appears as before: favorites, then a button, find friends, then a button, and so on. Re: kindle keyboard
so, if I understand you correctly, if I purchase a Kindle with the accessibility plug-in, using the keyboard to read is accessible: I can start, stop, pause, etc., without sighted assistance? However, if I am interrupted unexpectedly, or if I lose the place where I was reading, there is no way for me to find the place where I left off without sighted assistance, except by having the device read all the wy through to that spot? No ability to even go page by page or chapter by chapter independently to speed such a thing up? I appreciate any clarification. I am constantly frustrated by not being able to buy an e-book available in the Kindle store because of the great selection, but I have to figure out if the accessibility headache is worth the money and whether, in fact, I want to support a device which could so easily be accessible but is deliberately not blind-friendly for spurious reasons.
