Re: Can't remove an item from Finder
Are you sure your trash actually completely emptied with no warnings or errors? A dmg file won't empty from the trash if something from it is still mounted, usually on your desktop. If you don't see an app or whatever the dmg mounted in the desktop, I'm not sure. Have you restarted your computer since you emptied the trash? if not, restart your computer and then see if the trash still empties anything more and see if you still see the dmg in your sidebar. -- Cheryl May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to You, Lord, my rock and my Redeemer. Re: Attention Lindsay: Formatting of documents with Fine Reader Express
I accidentally replied to the blank email that was sent and no longer have Lindsay's actual email, so this is in response to a question about converting pdfs with Abbyy FineReader Express. I'm not sure whether this is what you are looking for, but at least when I scan and process from a scanner, there is a "save" dialog that allows me to save as text or rtf. I'm assuming you would get the same dialog when doing a pdf. Also, if these are readable pdfs, you can put them in preview, select all, copy into text edit and then change them to plain text if you want. Finally, you could use calibre to convert pdfs to text. It isn't accessible from the app on the Mac but there is a command you can do for Terminal to convert a file. -- Cheryl May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to You, Lord, my rock and my Redeemer. Re: Vmware Fusion
Yes, i have to say that I am pleased also with vmware fusion. I was frustrated when I was running xp on Fusion 4 just because it seemed slow but I think part of that was because I had been running it on my mac mini and should have changed more settings when I transfered it to the new Macbook Pro. Knowing that the demise of xp is near, and not being brave enough to wait and grab windows 8 right away, i just bought and installed Windows 7. One of the things i like about VMWare Fusion is that I can install totally independently as long as I have the product key, and if I have a major problem I can delete the virtual machine and either drag and drop an earlier backup of it or simply reinstall it. I tried to help a friend with a problem she had with Windows last weekend and was once again reminded that, at least for most of us, simply reinstalling native Windows independently isn't an option; I've heard there is a way to set things up to do this but it definitely can't happen out of the box. My Windows 7 installation in VMWare is running very nicely, especially since I upgraded to vmware 5, and so now I am thinking that I won't decide to do bootcamp at this time. I also have an Arch installation of linux as a virtual machine; I am mostly a debian user, but Arch worked better with vmware fusion for me because I could first boot into the cd I had burned and be in the linux environment and then run the install. It is possible to install debian on vmware also, as I did that at one point, and probably various other linux flavors as well. Again, when I ran into a problem in upgrading my linux vm, I simpy dragged and dropped a working backup as another vm until I could figure out how to remedy the problem. Both with linux and Windows vmware installs, one can also have as much or as little sharing with the Mac system as one wants and I do find it convenient to be able to share some things. At any rate, I am at this point very pleased with vmware fusion, especially because I like the independence. I'm also considering purchasing memory from Crucial and upgrading from 4gb to 16gb, which might not be necessary right now but should help performance as more developments occur. I know there can be advantages to bootcamp and even to separate linux machines (I still have some old Thinkpads running debian linux) but I would say that vmware fusion is well worth some consideration and particularly if sighted help isn't easy to obtain. -- Cheryl May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to You, Lord, my rock and my Redeemer. As I said, though, I use Mactubes most of the time for straight youtube browsing. I guess, then, that it is embedded videos that don't work, sorry for the lack of proper testing on my part. So, flash is obviously working in some way... As to the "original player' thing, I meant it literally: I see a bit of text in the video frame that reads 'use original player". When I vo-space, Safari is busy for a few seconds, but nothing happens. I've also tried the links to the different quality videos a bit further in the frame with the same result. I am running the very latest everything on a 2011 Mini and have a resonably fast wifi connection with few to no buffering problems, and I'm the only machine pulling significant data on the network most of the time. Fast scanner that works on the mac
Hi all. My canoscan lide 60 went through its scanning cycle with vuescan quickly enouth that, when I put vuescan into continuous scan, I could do close to 50 pages in 15 minutes. When the lide 60 died, I bought a 110 but it is driving me crazy. It takes so long to go through its scan process, part of course of which is not scanning but I still have to wait for it, that I can now only do 32 to 34 pages in 15 minutes. Can anybody recommend a good fast scanner, one that will stand up to lots and lots of use? Re: Scanning multiple pages in Abbyy Finereader Express?
Why would this be a problem? You just erase the tiff files after the scanning is done. They are all in the same folder and i just delete them all after I scan. Besides this, if I have something really important I keep the tiff file. Then I don't have to keep the original print copy because if something happens to my text file, I just run the tiff file through Abbyy again. Not only that, I can take the tiff file and try it in new ocr programs if they come along to see if a new one is better. Re: keyboard command to focus active windows?
It has to be one of these two from what Alex described: 1. vo-f2 twice and then hit return on desired window: that is the window chooser and I do use that when I know my window should have changed but my keyboard focus isn't there or when I think there may be a window I'm not finding or a diialog I'm not finding though Application Chooser also can be used for finding dialogs. 2. vo-shift-f2 which brings the window containing the voiceover cursor to the front, making it the active window. I believe what the person who tweeted wants is actually vo-f2 because with trackpad commander, a double-tap on the right side of the trackpad opens the window chooser.
