Re: VMware Fusion Vs Virtualbox.

2022-12-03 Thread Eric Oyen
I wish I could, but I am in the middle of a marketing project that takes most
of my time. I am fairly certain there are qualified folks on here. There was an
ad on the blind ads list earlier where someone offered services to help
remotely setup and install windows (including screen reader support). Might
want to check over there.

Re: Book Player for Mac

2022-12-03 Thread Greg Wocher
Hello,
There is Voice Dream reader. It does cost $4.99 a month on the mac. It will do
what you want. There is also an app called Speech Central. It is a free app and
it might do what you want.

I’ve found that simply doing a copy and paste works quite well. Just select the
items you want, hit the cmd+C and then go to your mail client and hit cmd+v
inside the message composition window. No muss, no fuss.

Real book for blind musicians

2022-12-03 Thread Phil Halton
Is there a such a beast? Any musician should know what I’m talking about. It’s
a fake book with the chords and melody for various jazz standards. All I can
find are graphical images of the chord symbols which obviously voice over makes
no sense self. Is there anything where they actually write out and text the
court symbols? You know CMaj7, Dm7b5 and so forth?

Hello,

There is Voice Dream reader. It does cost $4.99 a month on the mac. It will do
what you want. There is also an app called Speech Central. It is a free app and
it might do what you want.

VLC might be your best bet as it can play files one after another. You can put
them in playlists as well.

Hi, Group.

Any recommendations for a book player for Mac?

I would play simple mp3 files but I want the player keep track how much I have

Thanks much for your help.

Thanks!

Re: Safari on my Mac

2022-12-03 Thread Agent086b
Hi,
below is part of a message I saved from 2018. This works sometimes.
Max.

Heres an apple tech tip on how to clear sluggish VO movement by deleting the
Caches folder.
This helps minimize the "busy" issue for me. :)
Basic steps below;
To empty out the Caches folder on your computer, you’ll need to open up Finder
first.

With Voiceover on, you can press V O D, and it should default to Finder. Then
press V O Space.

Once Finder is the focused application, press V O M to get to the menu bar,
then V O Right until you reach the Go menu. In the Go menu, select Go To
Folder.

The location is ~/Library

Once you’ve typed that in, press Return.

In the Library folder, you can select the Caches folder and then press Command
Delete to move it to trash.

I recommend restarting the computer after you do this.

New to MacBook. Seeking advice on strategies for developing competence.

2022-12-03 Thread Marlene Kramer
hi listers, I am new to this list, and new to MacBook. I have transition from
the PC/jaws approach.
I have a MacBook, running Ventura.
I have eight years of experience with the iOS version of voiceover, but I’m
finding the MacBook version of voice over a little more challenging. I have
made some good initial progress, but realize I have a steep learning curve
ahead of me.
I would very much appreciate learning from those of you with experience on the
MacBook, your recommended strategies for approaching this learning process. No
advice is too simple.
Thanks in advance. Marlene.

It depends on whether you pause or stop the file.

Re: New to MacBook. Seeking advice on strategies for developing competence.

2022-12-03 Thread Janet Ingber
Hi Marlene,
Just take it slow. Do you still have your PC hooked up? I’ve written several
books on the Mac operating systems. There’s also a tremendous amount of
information on www.applevis.com.
AppleVis is a great web site and Mac Visionaries is a great email list.

No question is stupid. We’ve all been there.

Best.
Janet

Re: New to MacBook. Seeking advice on strategies for developing competence.

2022-12-03 Thread Herbie Allen
You will find a lot of similarities to Windows and iOS depending on what you
are doing. For example, the System Settings is similar to iOS while you have
mail commands like Command R for reply similar to Windows. Are you interested
in training materials? I can also recommend a training course but there is a
waiting list. Previous classes are on Youtube though.

Re: New to MacBook. Seeking advice on strategies for developing competence.

2022-12-03 Thread Rollin Hippler

If you have access to an

"Apple Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad" I've found that enabling
the keypad commander provides an experience somewhat similar to JAWS.

I've found the VoiceOver help function to be very helpful when learning
the various VoiceOver key commands and key combinations.

One other thing I found to be helpful is to change the VoiceOver
modifier key to be the caps lock key.  This frees up the option/command
keys for other frequently purposes.  That is done in the VoiceOver
options utility (VO + F8).

Hope this helps.

I would very much appreciate learning from those of you with experience on the
MacBook, your recommended strategies for approaching this learning process. No
advice is too simple.
Thanks in advance. Marlene.

Re: New to MacBook. Seeking advice on strategies for developing competence.

2022-12-03 Thread 'Jason White' via MacVisionaries
In addition to what others have suggested, there’s documentation available with
Ctrl-Option-Question mark (i.e., the VoiceOver modifier key with question mark).
I don’t know why this is so, but discussions on this list and elsewhere give me
the impression that Windows users have a more difficult time learning VoiceOver
for Mac than do people coming from other backgrounds.
