Open Twitter space is from my iPhone.

2022-06-20 Thread Steve Z.
Hi list,
My question is how can I open a space on Twitter from my iPhone. I read the
tutorial that says long press on the tweet button, but it doesn’t work.
Any suggestions how to do it?
Thanks

bring up some good points, although I’m not sure I know a workaround for

is still that the full entry of the password is required after restart or

password entry for someone with dexterity challenges.

Hi,
The compose tweet button has actions associated with it, so if you select
actions in the rotor and swipe up/down you should find create a new space.
Let me know if that doesn't work for some reason.

Copying and pasting a link from an email message on my iPhone

2022-06-20 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries

I need to copy a link from an email message, and pasted into a text message.
I’m not seeing any options to do that either by using the rotor or going in to
the edit or actions menu. How does one select and copy a link from a male
message on the iPhone?
Thanks,

Re: Voices in new OS.

2022-06-20 Thread Karen Lewellen

Jonathan
,
auditory processing is a brain injury, I am not about to listen to
anything, provided in an environment, that might put me in hospital.

given even IOS and windows settings make me dizzy, the answer is no.
At this point I am feeling the default voice provided with this mid 2012
installation of Catalina will be just fine with practice. Especially as I
make slight adjustments.
Far more concerned about the combination of keystrokes required, and
although I am sure it is here somewhere, how to repeat what vo has just
said?
Practice makes more comfortable, even if I doubt this is likely to become
my main machine any time soon..I love typing at 85 words a minute, and not
taking my hands off the keys too much laughs.

Thanks for the question, and the consideration though!
Karen

dizziness aspect of my auditory processing condition.
It is one reason why I wanted an older mac, and why I am, after years of being
on this list, only now in a position to really use apple products at all.
My point is that inclusion also means choices, and limiting choices because of
how a person's body works, is not inclusion..at all.

If you interact with the "table" that contains the list of messages, you
should be able to read through them efficiently with up/down cursor
keys, and, if I recall correctly, left/right to expand/collapse threads.
This assumes you're using Apple Mail.

If you're using Microsoft Outlook for Mac, this aspect of operation is
similar.

Then go to system preferences, and General. At the bottom you will see the

how to remove unwanted voices?

auditory processing is a brain injury, I am not about to listen to
anything,  provided in an environment, that might put me in hospital.

given even IOS and windows settings make me dizzy, the answer is no.
At this point I am feeling the default voice provided  with this mid
2012 installation of Catalina will be just fine with practice.
Especially as I make slight adjustments.
Far more  concerned about the  combination of keystrokes required, and
although I am sure it is here somewhere, how to repeat what vo has
just said?
Practice makes more comfortable, even if I doubt this is likely to
become my main machine any time soon..I love typing at 85 words a
minute, and not taking my hands off the keys too much laughs.

Thanks for the question, and the consideration though!

Karen and all,
Have you listened to either the AppleVis or Jonathan Mosen podcast

They have even broght Eloquence to IOS.

By way of example, I have yet to find an iOS voice that does not

It is one reason why I wanted an older mac, and why I am, after
years of being on this list, only now in a position to really  use
apple products at all.
My point is that inclusion also means choices, and limiting choices
because of how a person's body works, is not inclusion..at all.

As shared I have no issues with the data  not being presented,
with practice I will likely be fine.
but as I just shared with my apple rep, you expect someone like
the late Stephen Hawking to  have someone  provide his log in

If there is not an existing work-around for that population, one

an alternative way to provide password  at log in, or something of

Hi,

Whether it’s a VoiceOver user or a sighted user, they will not be
able to see what is being entered.  Yes, on some web-sites, there
is a “Show Password” option, but this is not the case for the
Login screen.  You do bring up some good points, although I’m not
sure I know a workaround for them.  Even with newer versions of
the computer, and newer versions of the MacOS there are things
like the fingerprint sensor.  The limitation here is still that
the full entry of the password is required after restart or
logout for security reasons.  I will need to check with someone
at Apple if there’s some other way that I’m not aware of that
would allow for password entry for someone with dexterity
challenges.

Tim,
Thanks as always.
When I spoke to apple accessibility I asked a question.
since voiceover is not providing input, if one is new to the
mac, or used to  a larger keyboard, mistakes are quite likely.
however, what happens if someone cannot type at all? the system
does not let you speak your password either, which speaking
personally seems like rather a barrier for those experiencing
motor challenges.
While I respect the risk idea, I am more bothered by the
noninclusive nature of the door if that resonates.
If I could say set the requirement for once every 90 days,
giving me more time to either manage this keyboard or add an
external  one it would be one thing.
As it is now, the problem prevents me from moving forward, and I
cannot resonate with that  situation.

Regarding the locking of the screen after sleep or screen

If you can read them with VoiceOver on the Mac, then, yes, you should be able
to use your braille display for the purpose.
Be aware, however, that the panning behavior on VoiceOver for Mac with a
braille display can be awkward, and it may be challenging to read a document
sequentially.

To Choose, To Chose - OCR App

2022-06-20 Thread Bill Gallik
Hi All (Once Again),

I’ve decided to install an OCR app on my Mac Mini, but in searching for such
software via “App Store” I find a quite confusing list of choices. I realize
such preferences are highly subjective propositions, but I certainly would
appreciate suggestions as to which OCR app will “Fill the BBill.”

Of course, anyone offering a suggestion will want to know what my criteria is,
suffice it to say my top criterion is accuracy. Beyond that, cost is certainly
a prominent consideration. I’ll put it this way, if an extremely accurate OCR
app runs around $50 I’m OK with that. I do not want a $3.00 app that is
lacking accuracy.

And one final consideration, I want to be able to link the app to readily open
various image files (JPG, IMG, etc).

Thanks in advance!

2022-06-20 Thread 'ja...@jasonjgw.net' via MacVisionaries
I’ve had good experiences with ABBYY FineReader in a Microsoft environment, and
I’ve read positive comments about the Mac version.
However, the company is based in Russia, and it may be subject to sanctions,
not to mention the moral issues involved given the current geopolitical
situation. I personally wouldn’t be comfortable purchasing from them right now.

Re: Voices in new OS.

2022-06-20 Thread Jessica Moss
I just listened to it on AppleVis, and I’m really surprised they took the time
to import all those “novelty” voices over to IOS. Those came with the Mac long
before Voiceover was even a thing, and while I thought it was hilarious to hear
one of several of my teachers at FSDB, whom many of the teachers we had still
used those before the school started slowly introducing them to the iMac, I
can’t imagine too many people using those to actually read with. I’m not sure
what I think of the additional voices yet.

Agreed. FineReader works well on the Mac. But its not moral to buy
products biult in China either. Where to draw the line?

Hey Karen. After further reading, I see that the question is about adding or
removing voices in iOS 16 or macOS Ventura. Due to NDA, I can't disclose stuff
like that on list. If the person is running the developer beta, please have him
contact me off list at this email address. I can help him that way.

After you get into Users and Groups, focus on the table and navigate
to Login Options. This is at the bottom of the table. This is NOT the

Hey Karen. After further reading, I see that the question is about
adding or removing voices in iOS 16 or macOS Ventura. Due to NDA, I
can't disclose stuff like that on list. If the person is running the
developer beta, please have him contact me off list at this email
address. I can help him that way.

the question are how to remove unwanted voices now

Jonathan
,
auditory processing is a brain injury, I am not about to listen to
anything,  provided in an environment, that might put me in hospital.
given even IOS and windows settings make me dizzy, the answer is no.
At this point I am feeling the default voice provided with this mid 2012
installation of Catalina will be just fine with practice.
Especially as I

make slight adjustments.
Far more  concerned about the  combination of keystrokes required, and
although I am sure it is here somewhere, how to repeat what vo has just
said?
Practice makes more comfortable, even if I doubt this is likely to
become my

main machine any time soon..I love typing at 85 words a minute, and not
taking my hands off the keys too much laughs.
Thanks for the question, and the consideration though!
Karen
