Re: Alternate Browsers on Mac

2021-12-13 Thread Greg Wocher
Hello,
The beta version is a few headings above the developer one on the page I sent.
The developer version is similar to the beta but its updated more frequently.
THe beta version tends to be a bit more stable.

Problems with VoiceOver and Music app in Monterey

2021-12-13 Thread 'Kristeen Hughes' via MacVisionaries
Does anyone else have problems with focus in the Music app? If I go into a
playlist of any type, the focus stays with the first item, despite any command
to change it. So even though I arrow down through the list and can play
whatever song I am on, the focus is not there if I want to do anything with
that specific item, such as add it to my library or download it etc.

Greg,
Okay, I found it. But it seems to have the same issues with not responding to a

Re: Problems with VoiceOver and Music app in Monterey

2021-12-13 Thread Patrick Ford
I'm not sure how to do this or what it is called - but it sounds as if your
voice over curser is set wrong - I never have or have had the problem you are
experiencing - if you can find out in voice over settings how your voice over
curser is set and how it should be set then I think your focus problem will go
away -

Re: Alternate Browsers on Mac

2021-12-13 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Hello,
I confirmed this now on my system. A workaround is to use item chooser
control-option-I and waiting for about a second and then Voiceover should say
XXX items. Then start typing your search term. I will get a bugzilla item
created today and let folks here know the ticket number.
I do know from some searching over the weekend, when I was looking for
performance issues with JAWS and Firefox that the Firefox team has a project to
improve response for the accessibility tree lookups.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Re: Problems with VoiceOver and Music app in Monterey

2021-12-13 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Well, in looking at my Library I was not able to reproduce. That being said you
were not very specific about the commands you were using.

I turned off VO-tracking and used VO keys to move the VO cursor to The Beatles
in the artist list. I then pressed VO-shift-M and several options were
presented to me including "Play the beatles."

Somethings to try:
1. press VO-F3 and VO-F4 to see if VO and Keyboard focus are in the same place.
You can also try VO-F6 to find out what is currently selected. VO-F5 tells you
what is under the mouse.
If VoiceOver cursor tracking is turned off and you use VO-F1 twice to switch
applications that VO is in you would hear something like:
"Music has keyboard focus. The VoiceOver cursor is in Mail 7 running
applications current activity Mail"
when pressing VO-F1 once.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Re: How to Finish Opening a DMG File

2021-12-13 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Exactly what Brad said, except that it is cmd-c and cmd-v for the Copy and
Paste action. Again, drag & drop is unnecessary. DMG files are similar to an
ISO on Windows in that they are disk images and will connect volumes to your
Mac which are represented on the Desktop. They are not items that can be
packaged like pkg installers, so they cannot be automated in the same manner.

Re: Dropbox dmg won't open.

2021-12-13 Thread Brad Snyder
Look for the volume on the desktop.
I installed Dropbox on my new MB Pro recently, and the DMG would not
automatically open the volume. I had to manually access the volume icon on my
desktop, and open it using CMD + DownArrow, then all proceeded as normal.

HTH.

Copy the .app file from the DMG and paste it into your applications folder.

I can’t figure out exactly what to do with a DMG file. I know that Cmd+O opens
the file, and then there’s an .app file sitting all by itself. What do I do
next?
Why doesn’t it automatically get dropped into my Applications folder, ready to
use?
And why does it put an entry on my desktop for starting it?
When I try to move it to my applications folder I get complaints that there are
locked items in the Trash. What is all that about?
A sighted friend just said all I need to do is to drag that .app file into my
applications folder. Yeah, sure.
Any tips?

As I responded to you earlier, look for the dropbox image volume on the

How To Use Preview?

2021-12-13 Thread 'Joy Cyr' via MacVisionaries
Good day,
I've always wondered but now as I am downloading course material it has become
critical what is the most effective way to read through a document that default
opens in Preview? Later I may want to jump to specific points in it, and I've
seen things in the menu that make that look fairly easy to do, but for now I'd
like to start at the beginning and read through (preferably without needing to
constantly press the arrow keys) to the end. I've tried VO A repeatedly but
sometimes it does nothing or at the best it reads a line and I need to arrow
forward (to the right) and then hit it again. Really not helpful!

All advice and suggestions would be most appreciated!
Joy

Re: Alternate Browsers on Mac

2021-12-13 Thread 'ja...@jasonjgw.net' via MacVisionaries
The VO-F (find) function works here under Mac OS 12.1 with Firefox 95. I
visited a Web page and searched for text that I knew would be there – and found
it without issue.

To: 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Subject: Re: Alternate Browsers on Mac
I'm going to try and consolidate a few answers here.

David originally asked about Safari and filling in passwords and form fields. I
believe this is not a Safari issue, but a web site putting do not autofill on
the password field, and then Safari paying attention to this. This of course
makes sense for older browsers where there were no protections for the password
keep within the browser. I use 1Password to manage all my passwords rather than
the default browser password storage solutions which are different for each
browser vendor. With one password, I type command-\ and it will fill in my
username/password / one time password automatically. Generally, 1Password costs
a few dollars a month, but if you search carefully, you can find a non network
based version for a one time cost. 1Password is definitely more accessible than
lastpass which is what my office provides.

Somebody mentioned (was that David too?) that the VO find function was not
working for them in Firefox. I haven't tested that recently, since I have been
concentrating on Windows 11 accessibility for work recently and won't get back
to looking at VoiceOver and Firefox for a couple months. I don't remember
testing the search function but the item chooser did work in version 91 which
is the last time I checked.
Eric, I'd be glad to advise you some, but just saying something works weird
gives me no way of knowing what issues you were seeing. I'd be glad to bring up
Firefox some and see if I can reproduce / work around your issues if I knew
what they were.
Lastly, since I mentioned my workplace, let me just say that I don't work for a
browser developer.

Re: Alternate Browsers on Mac

2021-12-13 Thread Jonathan C. Cohn
Hello,
I had searched for the Ward magazine on the nytimes.com website. Which should
be a link. Perhaps, fire fox will only search for a text using that and not for
lakes?
It would be interesting to check a little further.
Jonathan

Right AirPod Pro stopped working

2021-12-13 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi all,

So this is a two-part question.

1. For no reason that I can determine, my right AirPod no longer works. I
don’t know what caused this, but I did get a weird random message a while ago
that I’d left my Airpods pro somewhere else. I hadn’t, they were right there
with me in my purse. Anyone know if there’s a fix for this?

2. If there isn’t, what’s the latest on when the next gen Airpods are due out?
I don’t want to buy a new pair, only to have the next gen come out in two
months.
Cheers,
Donna
