Re: Thoughts on Tuesday’s event?
I enjoyed the event, especially hearing about the new watches though don’t plan on getting one this year as I have last year’s. If I were to get one I’d like product red. In the past I’ve been tempted to upgrade merely for the colour. That’s funny. I’ve never gone for product red, and the thought of having a red watch just feels weird to me. :) When I got my iPhone 11, I went for purple. Hi! THe cannned crowd noise i am not sure i agree about. But the apple watch is pritty pritty good and since you might be thinking of the series 6 you will get even more features. I tell you that it has also got a noise or db meter which actually warns you when things are to loud for your ears. I need that as a heavy metal fan. BUt how did you view the show using the discriptive video? I am not really sure how that works? Hi! Well, i don’t really care as the XR fits me wall. As long as it works i am happy. It would be nice with a new watch though. I wonder if they’ve redesigned it? Hi, I think it has some new internal components, for the pulse oxometer and the hand washing thing, but I don’t recall anything about it being redesigned. It would be nice if it were thinner, but then, I would rather have the longer battery life, especially with the new sleep monitoring feature. Mark on iOS14, iPadOS14, and Scene Descriptions
Hello Family, 1. I installed iPad OS 14 on my 2017 iPad Pro 10.5 tablet. Several of the new features of iPad OS 14 are not available on this model. However, the VoiceOver Scene Description feature is available, albeit a scaled-down version, and was set to on, by default. This feature drove me crazy because it kept saying something like "triangle or diagonal" almost all the time when viewing items in a list. It took me what seemed like forever to find where this feature was located in the OS. I found the setting under VoiceOver Verbosity. I turned the feature to off but doing so did not disable the feature until after a restart of the device. 2. I installed iOS14 on an iPhone 11. Strangely enough, all of the scene descriptions were set to off, by default. 3. My primary device is my beloved iPhone 8 Plus. The 8 Plus has been on the market for quite a while and, as happens to all devices, sooner or later, installing the latest OS begins to slow down the responsiveness of the phone. So, I am not going to install iOS14 on my 8 Plus until after hearing from various people on this list, that doing so will not cause my 8 Plus to slow down. I am also not going to install 14 on my 8 Plus because I am planning on purchasing an iPhone 12 when it is released; assuming that it ships with a Touch ID sensor, as I strongly suspect that it will. If the iPhone 12 does not include a Touch ID sensor, then I will try to hold out for another year in hopes that Apple will bring the hardware feature back on a later model. 4. Finally, my beloved Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus has an in-display Touch ID sensor / Home button. I am hoping that Apple will include the same or similar feature on iPhone 12. However, given the way that they have implemented the new Touch ID on its latest releases of iPAds, all bets are off. Just have to wait and see. 5. I would like to host another Zoom group discussion this Sunday so we can talk about all of the new Apple software and hardware features and devices. If I can manage it, I will send out a notice early Sunday morning. I hope you are all doing well. Mark -- The following information is important for all members of the Mac Visionaries list. Re: Mark on iOS14, iPadOS14, and Scene Descriptions
Hi Mark, I agree with you about the image descriptions. On one hand it's kind of cool that Foiceover can offer them, but they really do get distracting in my opinion. FWIW, when I installed 14 on my iPhone 11, image descriptions defaulted to on. Go figure. :) Cheers, Donna P.S. I hope you're right about the 12 having a touch sensor. I almost bought an SE for that very reason, but was worried that it wouldn't have a good upgrade path, so decided to hold out. > On Sep 18, 2020, at 11:01 AM, M. Personally, I don’t feel like there’s anything I absolutely have to have, but I am considering the series 6 watch, and/or maybe a new iPad. My current watch is a series 4, so upgrading to the 6 seems like it might be worth it, and the blood oxygen monitor seems kind of cool. I’m intrigued by the new iPad Air, though I’m not sure I want one that is that big. I currently have a sixth-gen 9 inch, and I like that size. Anyone else have any reactions? Re: Mark on iOS14, iPadOS14, and Scene Descriptions
Hello Mark! Hope you are doing well. It would be so nice to have a zoom meeting depending on what time morning is in Swedish time. One thing I am curious about is if you guys feel that the keyboard is more sluggish with Siri voices? Not much but a bit sluggish. With the Swedish one the keyboard is quite sluggish so I have to use the nuance voice is a lot which I really don't like as they are having some kind of glitch when it speaks. There is a small crack sometimes when it starts talking. Otherwise I don't have any problems with The new update. Maybe the screen recognition but that's been there since the data came out. > 18 sep. 2020 kl. 18:02 skrev M. Re: Thoughts on Tuesday’s event?
Hi Donna! You don't know what you're missing. It's so nice to walk around having the watch on your wrist and don't care for the heavy iPhone. The only problem I have is that when I'm on a call and have turn Bluetooth off on the iPhone I can get an incoming call on the watch. That is a bit strange I think. > 18 sep. 2020 kl. 18:52 skrev 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries > : > > Hi Dan, > > I have never had a model with cellular data, and never felt I needed one. > Unless you'll spend a lot of time in situations where you won't have your > iPhone nearby, I wouldn't spend the money. > Cheers, > Donna > > >> On Sep 18, 2020, at 11:41 AM, Dan Rathburn wrote: >> >> >> Hi, >> >> I'm still researching the Apple Watch. Re: Thoughts on Tuesday’s event?
Hi Anders, Maybe it's a guy thing. My phone is always either in range here in my house, or, if I'm out, it's in my purse, which is nearly always in range of my watch. I would carry my phone in my purse whether I had the watch or not, so not having cell data on the watch is really irrelevant to me. I was an early adopter of the watch when it first came out, and the only time in all that time that I regretted not having cellular data on my watch was once when I took a weekend trip and accidentally left my phone at home. And that one incident isn't worth the $10 a month--or whatever it would be--that Verizon would charge me. Cheers, Donna > On Sep 18, 2020, at 1:11 PM, Anders holmberg wrote: > > Hi Donna! Well I hope the 12 has a Touch ID as I can’t use Face ID when I have to use a mask. I bet Apple will put it on there and there excuse will be due to wearing masks. Re: Mark on iOS14, iPadOS14, and Scene Descriptions
There is some kind of feature in iOS 14 which will speed up having the “use passcode“, if you’re on a phone that has only Face ID. So there is not going to be touch ID on the iPhone 12 I am extremely sure. They put this new feature in 14 to try to help with the mask situation. Re: Financial Management on the Mac
My favorite is You Need a Budget (YNAB). It’s a web app and an IOS app. It has a bit of a steeper learning curve, but it’s worth it. If you need any help, let me know. I am a financial advisor.
