Re: podcasts on a Mac

2020-09-17 Thread Lorie McCloud
I heard about them from other places. it said they were available on Apple
podcasts and I thought I had the best chance of downloading them if I went
there. I think they might also have been available on Amazon but I didn't think
I could download them at all from there.

Thoughts on Tuesday’s event?

2020-09-17 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi all,

I’m surprised that there’s been no comment at all about Tuesday’s event,
though, I have to say that without talk of a new phone, it kind of felt more
like a non-event. :) But, just thought I would ask would people’s thoughts are.

Personally, I don’t feel like there’s anything I absolutely have to have, but I
am considering the series 6 watch, and/or maybe a new iPad. My current watch is
a series 4, so upgrading to the 6 seems like it might be worth it, and the
blood oxygen monitor seems kind of cool. I’m intrigued by the new iPad Air,
though I’m not sure I want one that is that big. I currently have a sixth-gen 9
inch, and I like that size.

Anyone else have any reactions?
Cheers,
Donna

After upgrading to Watch 7, my watch no longer speaks the time when I tap it

2020-09-17 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi all,

This morning I upgraded to Watch 7, and now when I tap the watch it remains
silent. I have to scroll up or down to get it to speak the time. Has anyone
else experienced this? Beta testers, is this a known bug? I’ve got a series 4
and am using the modular face.
Thanks,
Donna

Re: After upgrading to Watch 7, my watch no longer speaks the time when I tap it

2020-09-17 Thread joseph hodge
So I actually think this is not a bug it’s just a change of behavior. So for me
on a series 4 if I tap once it wakes up the display I’m assuming if I tap a
second time speaks the time is normal. The thing I like about this is if I tap
once and then do a double tap it vibrates the time with no misfiring a voice
over speaking.

Now I’ve tried what you described, I think you may well be right! Before the
update, I did sometimes find that a double tap on the screen when asleep would

Re: After upgrading to Watch 7, my watch no longer speaks the time when I tap it

2020-09-17 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Oh, you are right. How interesting. It does seem like it will minimize the
watch starting to prattle when you don't want it too. :) However, I have
noticed that it doesn't necessarily speak the time on the second tap. It seems
to depend on where you tap, announcing whatever the icon is that you tap. That
will take some getting used to.
Best,
Donna

blood oxygen monitor i might get it.

Hi!
Well that would be nice if it stopped speaking when double tapping.
I haven’t upgraded yet but will do.

Re: After upgrading to Watch 7, my watch no longer speaks the time when I tap it

2020-09-17 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Another thing I figured out, is that pressing the digital crown causes the
watch to speak the time. That may have been true before, but I don't know, I'd
never tried it.
Cheers,
Donna

2020-09-17 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
So, I use the modular face, which has five complications. If I tap the watch
once, it wakes up. If I tap it a second time, it announces the info for
whichever complication I happened to tap.

Re: Thoughts on Tuesday’s event?

2020-09-17 Thread Dan Rathburn

Hello,

I listened to the event with the video description on my SE 2020. For the
first time, I am thinking about getting an Aple Watch and giving serious
consideration to getting an iPad. I've reached an age where healthe issues
are a concern and the Apple Watch seems like a good tool to have handy.
Since getting the SE 2020, I've been using my iPhone 6 Plus as an iPod but
it is nearly 8 years old hence the interest in the iPad. The availibility of
time payments makes them worth the look. The event was rather low-key
without an audience but informative just the same. They should've followed
the example of the NFL and used canned crowd noise

Regards,

Dan

The nice thing about science is that it's true whether you believe in it or

Subject: Thoughts on Tuesday’s event?

Hi all,

I’m surprised that there’s been no comment at all about Tuesday’s event,
though, I have to say that without talk of a new phone, it kind of felt
more like a non-event. :) But, just thought I would ask would people’s
thoughts are.

Personally, I don’t feel like there’s anything I absolutely have to have,
but I am considering the series 6 watch, and/or maybe a new iPad. My
current watch is a series 4, so upgrading to the 6 seems like it might be
worth it, and the blood oxygen monitor seems kind of cool. I’m intrigued
by the new iPad Air, though I’m not sure I want one that is that big. I
currently have a sixth-gen 9 inch, and I like that size.

Anyone else have any reactions?
Cheers,
Donna

I was a bit pissed off (I know I shouldn’t use that) but no phone, I thought
how rubbish as I want a new phone as I need to upgrade at some point from the

I have sold the watch so I might get a series 6. I have upgraded my present

Re: Thoughts on Tuesday’s event?

2020-09-17 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi Dan,

I've never regretted getting an Apple watch. I've been amazed by how much I use
it. I use it for messaging, tracking heart-rate and work-outs, being reminded
of calendar events, checking weather, playing music occasionally taking phone
calls. It's just incredibly convenient to have all that stuff right on your
wrist. The trick is, of course, when to upgrade. If you upgrade both your watch
and your phone at the same time, you can spend a chunk of change. I usually try
and alternate them.

I've also been surprised by how much I use my iPad. It took me a while to warm
up to it, but now, I probably use it as much as I use my Mac, and I am thinking
about maybe someday not even having a Mac.
Cheers,
Donna

Why does VO say Direct Touch Area?

2020-09-17 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi all,

I'm hoping one of you who beta-tested IOS 14 can answer this. In a couple of
games I have on my phone, when I open the app, VO just says Direct touch Area?
Anyone know what that means?
Cheers,
Donna

I guess, is that it’s indicating that voiceover jesters or disabled so the game
can take control of what you’re touching. I don’t play games very much, so I
have never seen us.

Re: podcasts on a Mac

2020-09-17 Thread 'Sabahattin Gucukoglu' via MacVisionaries
To download all podcasts, make sure you’re in the Podcasts view in iTunes
(Mojave or earlier, or Windows). In the sidebar, if visible (if not, make it
so), make sure Podcasts is selected (you can hide it again, after doing this).
Press Library, to get the library view. In the View Options (View menu), you
want the classic list layout. Under “Show”, pick Feed. Now in the list, you can
contiguously select as many articles as you want, collapsing any disclosure
triangle that represents a Podcast to navigate faster, or selecting whole
podcasts to select every enclosed episode. On the Podcast menu, choose Download.

You’ll rue your upgrade. The Podcasts app has one decisive virtue over iTunes:
it syncs better with iOS. That’s it. In every other important respect, it’s
bloody awful. For instance, data is stored in a sandbox, where you can’t get to
it. And mass operations, like the one I just described, aren’t possible. iTunes
may be many things, but the great split was a triumph of clueless tech
journalists shouting just a little too loudly, IMNSHO. A real innovation of
iTunes would have meant splitting up the technical functions—remote control,
network services, library services, renderer—and not a simple iOSification of
the apps by simply having an app for each media type. But that’s for another
rant …

Cheers,
Sabahattin

So close importing my music

2020-09-17 Thread Traci Duncan
Hi all, I took the plunge today and imported my music onto my Mac running
Catalina. I chose to move my music folder onto a jump drive, then import all
songs via the music app on the Catalina machine.

On my old Mac I exported both my playlists and iTunes library, but the Catalina
Mac doesn’t seem to be reading these files. Any tips? They are both xml files.
Does Catalina music not read these? Or should I save them in a particular area?

Also, when there are music playlists, are they in the side bar, with songs,
artists, store, etc.?

Thanks for the help,
Traci

I have also experienced VoiceOver saying "direct touch area" in a couple of
games. Besides turning VO off and back on again, turn your rotor to direct
touch. Then, swipe down and it should say "Direct touch on."

Re: podcasts on a Mac

2020-09-17 Thread Lorie McCloud
I'm messing around with podcasts in iTunes. I set the classic layout. I keep
running into "unplayed" I don't know how to find "shows" or "feed". maybe I
should interact somewhere or something but I have no idea what I'm doing in
iTunes.

thanks.
Lorie
