Re: HomeKit thermostat?

2020-07-27 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi pete,

Sorry for taking so long to respond. Your message somehow got shuttled off to
my Junk folder, and I just now saw it.

And I'm sorry, but I can't help. I also found the schedule feature to be
impossible to use. Whenever we needed to modify anything, I had to have my
sighted husband do it. In this respect, though more convoluted, the EcoBee app
is better. You said regular i.e. day-time temperatures, and then you set
separate sleep temperatures. You can also set what hours you want sleep
temperatures to be active, without going into a huge grid like you do with
Nest. I think they can do this because the app assumes that your settings will
apply to every day of the week, so it'd be less than ideal if you wanted one
set of settings for week days and another for weekends. But since I work from
home, that's not an issue for me.
Cheers,
Donna

Re: HomeKit thermostat?

2020-07-27 Thread John JD Denning
Thank you everybody for your thermostat comments. Looks like I’m going with the
ecobee. We need to replace our entire HVAC system. The one we wanted will only
work with the carrier thermostatic. I try their app and it’s not accessible at
all. And it’s got a rating in the App Store a 1.5 x 77% of the users. The model
down from that uses the ecobee thermostat. So that’s what we’re going with.

Loss of Overdrive Capability with new Catalina OSx

2020-07-27 Thread Dave Carlson
According to what I read, users will no longer be able to download MP3 format
audio books from Overdrive once using Catalina. This means that the only way to
listen to an audio book from Overdrive will be to listen directly on the device
during the time limit of the loan from the library. I usually download the MP3
format and convert to M4B to listen in my book player, any time that I decide.
Sounds like this will no longer be possible on Catalina.
Does anyone know of an alternative method to download MP3 versions of audio
books once Catalina is the OSx on a Mac? One more reason why I don’t plan to
upgrade to Catalina any time soon.

Re: Loss of Overdrive Capability with new Catalina OSx

2020-07-27 Thread Dave Carlson
Catalina is 64-bit and no iTunes. Overdrive has decided to discontinue the
Overdrive Media Console app since it is 32-bit and requires iTunes to do its
thing, I guess. Any future Overdrive usage in their new 64-bit app will allow
only direct streaming to the Mac for real-time listening, and no ability to
port the material to a standard audio book player. Drat, drat, and drat.

Re: Twitterrific busy

2020-07-27 Thread N2KPV
Hi Traci, I posted 6 months ago with the same problem . I even tried
deleting the app and re-installing with no avail . I finally stopped using
the app and am using Night Owl . I do like Twitterific better though.
Hopefully some one has the answer out there .

using powerpoint with voiceover on Mac

2020-07-27 Thread jean parker
Hello All:

I want to show slides using the slide show function in Microsoft Powerpoint.
When I am in slide show mode however, the slides do not advance properly when
voiceover is on. When voiceover is turned off the slides advance correctly. I
have also tried using the space bar for this and also p for previous and n for
next with the same result. Sorry but using Windows is not an option.

The same slide show works fine with Keynote leading me to conclude that it is a
powerpoint/voiceover issue.

Is this a bug? Any suggestions
Many thanks in advance for any help,

Jean
