RE: Writible CDs and DVDs

2020-05-15 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Hi Petrus,

I wasn’t sure if you were burning them as mp3 or audio cd’s
But yes the mp3 will be fine if the car plays it,

Of course I don’t need to point out that if your car has Bluetooth or an input
jack or even usb you could put the books on your phone or your wifes and they
can play from there.

A lot more books on the phone and less cd’s in the car.

Hi Simon,
I think you missed my original email where I said I was burning MP3 formatted
audio books. So the play time is definitely more then 80minutes. I know the CD
player in her car can play MP3 format. In fact the CD I burned the other day
equates to about 18 hours play time. One thing, burning MP3 files on to a
blank CD with the Mac is way easier then on my old windows machine. It took me
about five minutes to work out how to do it.

Hi Petrus,

Yes you can also get DVDs that hold approximately 8.5GB

Dual layer dvd.

However if you are wanting to play these books as audio then it’s not the cd
capacity but the playing time.

The cd size worked to I think from memory the 650MB cd was 80 minutes approx.
playing time,

So depending on which way you want to play the files might be worth looking
at the way you wish to write the data to the disks and dvd’s don’t always play
in optical drive players.

Thanks Tim,
It tells me that has 6148 bites and if my brain is working correctly which
isn’t a guarantee I make that 6.1MB? I’m pretty sure I can buy blank DVDs that
can take about 4.6GB so I’ll look online to order some of those. I was hoping
they would be available in the Apple store but I think blank DVDs are to old
technology for apple to worry about.

Hi,

On a Mac, if you insert the CD into your drive, it should show up on the
Desktop as an ejectable item. Either open the Untitled CD and check in the
Status bar for the amount of remaining space (you may need to press cmd-slash
to make the Status bar visible), or press cmd-i to Get Info on the CD and the
available space will be listed.

Later…

Hello,
DOwnload to computer and edit with Numbers?
OK, OK for the Mac I understand Chrome works better than JAWS, and you probably
want to turn on Braille support even if you are not using a braille display.
Note, I have only studied this not practiced it. Well, I need to move things
from Share Drives into Google Docs so let me find a spreadsheet and test. Also,
in terms of JAWS, I believe that Freedom Scientific Training YouTube channel
has a lesson or two on Google sheets.
Are you looking for cell navigation, or something more complex?

Re: apologies WAAAAAY OT

2020-05-15 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
What I need to do is fairly straight forward. It's a spreadsheet that tracks
troubleshooting issues. So I need to be able to do two things:
1. Enter text into a cell
2. Check the status of the report I or a coworker entered.

The latter seems to work fine, both on Mac and Windows. But entering text in
the cells seems more problematic. I did finally get the Mac to let me enter
text, but I'm not sure why it worked, so don't know if I can reproduce it. lol
Just thought maybe there was some command, or mode or other trick that I needed
to invoke.

Oh, and when you say enable braille support, are you referring to Cmd-Option-Z?
That's the command I see for enabling screen-reader support, but I never get
braille.

Oh, and while I'm on the topic, I haven't yet upgraded to Catalina, but was
thinking I might do so next week. Does that upgrade impact how one works with
GoogleSheets, either for better or for worse?

I've got till fall to figure this out, but I figured someone here has probably
worked with GoogleSheets before, so figured it was worth asking.

Thanks for the help, Jonathan.
Cheers,
Donna

Books on OS X not syncing all purchases

2020-05-15 Thread Phil Halton

books on OS X is missing a handful of bookstore purchases. I have signed out
and then back into my account, I have authorized the computer, and I have
checked for available downloads. No joy. All the missing books do sync on the
iOS books, but not on OS X. Any ideas?
