Sorry, can’t really help with that one. GPS technology depends on a lot of
things. How many GPS signals your phone is picking up to triangulate your
position can effect it and I’ve heard that even cloud cover can effect it .
Suppose the orientation of your phone and weather you have it in a pocket or
not can effect it too, but I just opened the app as I’m sitting inside at my
table and it told me that the cemetery and bus stop is 112m to my south which
is correct. And it does get updated quite regularly so it c could just be a bug
that will get fixed at some point. You can also open the category filter so you
can change what it tells you if you don’t want to know about entertainment
places and shops and so on.
It’s not to bad for a free app..

Re: Designing an accessible website for my Music Studio?

2020-05-02 Thread Nebojsa Tasic

Hi Ramy!

You can create a website in Wordpress very easily. You can learn it in a
few days. You don't need to know coding. The admin panel is accessible
and there are many free plugins.

I don't recommend it for serious jobs. The main reason is that it is not
secure. But, if you want to present your work, it is okay. If you decide
to use WP, update it regularly - imediately when the new version come out.

As a musician you probably need an accessible player. I recommend you
Able Player. There is the WP plugin for it. I didn't use it for a few
years and don't know if it works with the later versions of WP. Youtube
is also a good solution. You can put songs on it. There is the code on
the Youtube page that you can copy and paste into your page source and
Youtube player with that song will be built in your web page.

I don't recommend using free hostings. My experience says that There
usually are problems with them. You can buy hosting and domain for about
30 EUR per year, maybe even less.

I wish you succeed.

Re: the new iPhone SE

2020-05-02 Thread Jonathan Cohn
It is almost the same size as my iPhone 7. Most commentators compare it to the
iPhone 8, but it has a single lens camera in the back, so the bump is not as
noticeable. Yes, it has a finger print sensor. However, it has much better
battery life than my 2 year old iPhone 7, and doing a read all at 80% speech
rate is smoother. In general I like it and think it is a good value for anybody
that doesn't want the fancy cameras. It also has WiFI 6 which was just
standardized this year though of course it does not have 5G technology.
If you have a iPhone 7 or older, you should appreciate the improvements.

Re: Apple TV+

2020-05-02 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi Simon,

Yeah, we get minor floods about every 20 years or so here, but this one was a
doozy. There was a 28 km long ice jam that caused the big river to send its
water and ice against the flow of the smaller rivers. That much volume of
water spilled over the banks and berms around rather easily and made a mess of
a lot of the lower town-site. Over 1000 structures, both residential and
businesses, have been affected. People are just going back now in some of the
areas to determine the extent of the damage. Compound this with all the COVID
stuff, and there's a number of people shaking their heads at the luck of it
all. One of our golf courses was just getting ready to open as some COVID
restrictions are being relaxed a very little, but with 3 m tall chunks of ice
and all the silt from the floodwater on the course, it will be a while before
they get to re-open.

Oh well, this is off topic to our list, so I sign off now.

Stay safe all.

Hi,

Good idea. We don't even have local transmitters anymore. Too far out in the
boonies and away from it all. Had some major flooding this week up here, so
about 13,000 people had to be evacuated from their homes. Rough for many as we
had a wild fire here four years ago and some of the same who lost their home to
the fires again lost their home to the floods. We're good as we're on much
higher ground and the water didn't make it up this far. Things are receding
now, the water level has gone down about 7.1 metres so far (around 24 ft in
your lingo). It's amazing how powerful nature is.

Hi,
You don't actually need Apple TV Plus to configure this feature. You can use
what Apple calls, Apple TV Channels to do this. All you really need to do is
search for a title, like Star Trek. If it is available on CBS All Access in
the US, then there should be a "Where to Watch" item in your search results.
Open that and CBS All Access, will be an option. When you select that option,
if you're already subscribed, it will just start playing. If you're not yet
subscribed, then it will tell you how you can. This works for many streaming
services, but not all. Netflix is not one that works within Apple TV Channels.
Apple TV Plus is a separate service with Apple original content. Some content
is great, other is not so good in my opinion. It would be nice if Apple gave
you discounts o

Re: VLC media player

2020-05-02 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Just below Full Disk Access in the Security and Privacy settings is Files and
Folders (at least on Catalina). Once you are in that list, you should be able
to find the VLC application. When I was scanning Google results for you, there
was mention that some versions of VLC require Accessibility access in order to
work. I hope this is not the case, because then VLC could effectively control
just about anything on your system.

Best wishes,

Hi,
Yes, sorry, you're out of luck for those kinds of streaming services. We've
got one like that here in Canada, and it's a pane in the behind. Apple
Channels can be found under the Watch Now section of the Apple TV 4 and 4K, as
well as a ways down there if you use the TV app on iOS/iPadOS.

Apple TV Channels, I don't think I came across that yet. Where do I look? There is so

find something that takes me down memory lane.
One thing I'm wondering about is that some networks wants a TV provider
account before you can subscribe. Since I don't have that, am I out of luck?

Hi,
You don't actually need Apple TV Plus to configure this feature. You can use what Apple
calls, Apple TV Channels to do this. All you really need to do is search for a title,
like Star Trek. If it is available on CBS All Access in the US, then there should be a
"Where to Watch" item in your search results. Open that and CBS All Access,
will be an option. When you select that option, if you're already subscribed, it will
just start playing. If you're not yet subscribed, then it will tell you how you can.
This works for many streaming services, but not all. Netflix is not one that works
within Apple TV Channels.
Apple TV Plus is a separate service with Apple original content. Some content
is great, other is not so good in my opinion. It would be nice if Apple gave
you discounts on purchases as an Apple TV Plus subscriber, but alas, not yet.

old iPhone 7, and doing a read all at 80% speech rate is smoother.
In general I like it and think it is a good value for anybody that
doesn't want the fancy cameras. It also has WiFI 6 which was just
standardized this year though of course it does not have 5G technology.

If you have a iPhone 7 or older, you should appreciate the improvements.
