Re: world time clock

2020-04-21 Thread Michael Busboom
Hello Jürgen,

I grew up in the States but have lived all of my adult life in Austria. There
is a nine-hour time difference for much of the year between Central Europe and
the West Coast of the US. While I always do the conversion in my head, it is
easy to just ask Siri what time it is in Seattle, Washington or Los Angeles,
California, for that matter.

Take care,

Mike

Re: non-contiguous selection

2020-04-21 Thread Brad Snyder
To select multiple non-contiguous items in a folder, do the following:
1. Set the folder to List view.
2. Interact with the List using VO + Down Arrow.
3. Use VO + Up or Down arrow to the first item you wish to select.
4. Use VO + CMD + Enter to select the item. Note: you may have to do this
twice to select the first item.
5. While holding down the VO keys, use the Up or Down Arrow to navigate to
other items you wish to select, then use VO + CMD + Enter, to add items.

2020-04-21 Thread Brad Snyder
The Clock app on an iPhone contains a World Clock feature.
Open the Clock app, and select World Clock from the tabs along the bottom of
the screen.
Select Add in the upper right corner of the World clock screen to add a
location.
Cities you may want to select include Los Angeles, San Francisco or Seattle,
among many others in the US Pacific time zone.

Re: How do I change my Wifi network password?

2020-04-21 Thread Dave Carlson
Donna,
You need to use the actual IP address of your router to get access using
Safari. There you should find your Wi-Fi network settings. Usually the default
ID and password are “Admin” if you haven’t changed them already.

Re: world time clock

2020-04-21 Thread Jürgen Fleger
Hi all,

thanks for all your answers. Very helpful. Especially because the e-Mail for
the online meeting didn’t say a word about a location. It just said 9 am
Pacific time. But I found out the company sitts in Ojai. I assume a delay of 9
hours should be correct.

Thanks and all the best
Jürgen

Jürgen,Ojai is certainly not a very common or well-known California town. Any

Re: How do I change my Wifi network password?

2020-04-21 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

As Dave mentioned, you’ll need to do this via a web browser like Safari. If
you go into System Preferences, Network, then make sure that WiFi is selected,
press the Advanced button, then select the DHCP tab, you’ll be able to get the
router address you need. Go into Safari and enter that router address into the
Address bar and press return. this should bring up an authentication page.
You’ll then need to log into that page with credentials that should have been
provided to you by your ISP. Sometimes they use a basic username/password
combo like admin/serial number of the router, but each ISP is different. You
may need to contact them to figure out this part. Once you’ve logged into the
router with those credentials, you can then locate the WiFi info and modify the
password.

HTH.

Re: world time clock

2020-04-21 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
I've not done time conversions on my Mac, but this kind of feature is a
common need for anyone working with colleagues around the globe.

I'd be very surprised if this was difficult to accomplish this on Apple.
I know my Android Clock app allows me to quickly see current time any of
dozens of world cities. I get to choose the ones I want at the top of my
list.

It's also an important feature when traveling internationally.

There's also this very useful web service:

https://TimeAndDate.com

PS: Germany is generally 9 hours ahead of U.S. pacific Time, so 9:00 AM
in San Francisco will be 18:00 in Berlin.

Good luck!

Fwd: world time clock

2020-04-21 Thread maurice mines
Just for everyone in the group’s information, I tried sending this out a couple
minutes ago with the wrong email address, so here are my comments as a
forwarded message. I hope this helps?

A question for the group in mail, if there any way to set a default descendent
from email address so that the issue that prompted me to write this forwarded
message in the first place doesn’t occur again.

A completely separate second issue this machine is nearing the end of its
useful life, it has a potentially swelling battery. So if it advisable to do
the following? Shut the machine down at the end of the major part of the day
that requires me to use the machine. Leave seven machine unplugged overnight.
Should I be doing anything else?

I will certainly keep Time Machine backups, and of course make use of when
cloned to backup my Boot Camp partition. I’m told it could be 8 to 10 weeks
before the new machine arrives. Things are moving much slower than they were in
the past because of the obvious current situation.

Sincerely Maurice Mines.

Withings smart thermometer?

2020-04-21 Thread John JD Denning

Sent from my iPhone Does anybody have experience with a Withings smart temporal
thermometer?

I’ve got the blood pressure cuff, and it works. I don’t like their app very
well. I tried one of their smart scales and it was basically useless. I’m
interested in getting a connected thermometer so the results can go right into
the health app.

If anybody has experience with this or another connected thermometer I’d
appreciate your comments good or bad.

Hi Folks,

I’m hoping a Pages user can walk me through the file menu of the Pages app.

I need to understand how things work and I think my years as a Microsoft

I’m looking for a easy way to save a document I’m working in and give it
a new name or save it to a different location.

When I press Save nothing seems to happen but I’m pretty sure it has
saved my recent changes.

If I press Duplicate it makes a copy but then I’m dumped back into my
file and have not been able to change the name or save it to a new place.
If I press rename It seems to open and then I’m back in my file without
being able to give it a new name.

And pressing Move brings me a place where I can select some locations
with a button but not go more deeply into a folder to save the document.

I’m sure it is me just not understanding the work flow so I’d love some
tips on saving and naming files in Pages.

Appreciatively,

In the Mac OS terminal, set the TZ variable and then run the date command, for
example:
TZ=US/Pacific date
Which will show you the date and time in the specified time zone. The time
zones are in the /usr/share/zoneinfo directory.

This is a well known solution that has worked on UNIX systems for a long time.
