Re: Editing Formulas in Excel for the Mac

2020-04-19 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

No. Simply arrow to the cell you wish to edit, press option-return and the
cursor is placed at the end of the information within that cell. If it was
just data, you could arrow left/right to manipulate it, or press delete to
remove portions of it. If it is a formula, then use left/right arrows to move
to specific locations within the formula to edit cell references etc.

HTH.

Hi Brad,

Perfect, That is exactly the information I needed to keep moving
forward with Pages.

Any tips on how to use the rename or move commands in the file menu are
welcome. They look like they could be useful if I could figure them out.

Thanks again Brad for the info I needed to get work done!

Re: Help with saving files in Pages

2020-04-19 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

I've never actually used those items myself as I usually do renaming and moving
from within the Finder. that being said, for the "Rename" option, after
selecting Rename from the File menu, make your change then either go on to make
any other modifications within the body of the document or just press cmd-s to
save your changes. The "Move To..." item works similarly to any other save
dialog on your Mac. Choose your location and then either press return or press
the "Move To" button. Some actions are different depending on whether you are
in Icon, List, or Column view.

Re: Help with saving files in Pages

2020-04-19 Thread Brad Snyder
Hi Eric,

I’ve never used the Move To option, but it seems to be pretty much the same as
the Save As dialog, so I'm not sure what the difference is, but I am guessing a
copy/second document is not created.

When using the Rename option, focus is placed on the name in the title bar of
the document, with the name highlighted. You then simply type the new name for
the document and press Enter to complete the name change.

HTH

Nope, Option + Return only moved the focus to the cell below. What did work was

Hi,

I guarantee that option-return works for this. It has been a feature in
Numbers forever. I seem to recall that you're using a non-Apple keyboard. Is
it possible that you were not using the actual "Option" key to do the action?

Option return is the keystroke for numbers spreadsheets, but does it work in
excel for Mac? That is what Dave is using isn’t it? By the way I’m a big
numbers user and I might like to try XL on the Mac. How is it Accessibility
wise and is it a lot like XL and windows? What do I have to do to get it? Is it
a standalone or is it part of a subscription bundle?

Re: Help with saving files in Pages

2020-04-19 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Hello,
If you open system preferences to the General screen, you will find a checkbox
called "Ask to keep changes when closing documents" if you check this box, your
file dialog will be more like how it is on a windows computer.
In Macs by default, a lot of programs will automatically save your changes
regularly, and when you close them. In these programs the duplicate will create
a copy that will then prompt you when you close it as to where to save. If you
save more often, then the Apple default, then you can review all your saves in
the "document Actions" menu that is before the toolbar or in the file->revert

Hi,

Oops, sorry, I guess I didn't properly read the question. I heard the part
about being awesome at Excel on Windows, and wrongfully went to Numbers on the
Mac. What a dolt. Sorry Dave.

Mac for the Blind Online Courses

2020-04-19 Thread John Panarese
Hello everyone,
I am posting the below with the very kind permission of our moderator,
Mark. I am Hoping to spread the word and get as many interested folks as
possible in online courses I plan to conduct in the near future. However,
please read the below information and only respond by way of the contact form
or direct email to me that are stated in the text below. Please do not post
back to this list in regard to this matter. Please also understand that this is
all in the planning stages, so your responses will certainly dictate and effect
my final delivery and course selections as well as the times and dates.
I thank you for your attention and any inconvenience, especially if you are
reading this more than once from other lists.

I have mentioned here in the past that I was interested in pursuing
holding online courses of various kinds in the future. I got a bit sidetracked
and caught up in several other projects and tasks, but I have slowly been
contemplating and pondering the subject as time has passed.

What I would like to do is first offer some free courses to help current
users or potential users of the Mac and iDevices get themselves started or
familiar with a lot of the basics in an easy, straight forward in systematic
manner. With the current circumstances created by the COVID19 pandemic, I also
think free courses would be helpful to many and appreciated as well.

Obviously, if this project gains interest, it will expand and include
several intermediate and advanced areas of material regarding the Mac or
iDevices. I have plenty of ideas and thoughts, but it will basically depend on
the response from the community and the interest of users.

With that all said, let me present my ideas and thoughts as they stand now.
Please do pass this information along to as many possibly interested people you
know and share it with them all.

The How

I plan to hold these courses in some kind of online or telephone manner.
This will come down to what the general consensus of the interested people feel
is best. I am looking at Free Conference Calls as one possible avenue, while
other conferencing solutions, such as Zoom, has been suggested by many, along
with a few others, including Microsoft Teams.

The When

At the moment, I'd like to start doing something in May. Specifically, the
weeks of the 11th or 18th are potential starting points. Again, though, this
will depend on the number of people interested and their suggestions.

The What

As far as the material I plan to present, here are some initial topics I
would like to offer.

• An Introduction to your Mac and MacOS using VoiceOver
• VoiceOver Basics on the Mac: Interaction to Navigation
•Basic Web Browsing on the Mac with VoiceOver and Safari
• VoiceOver and applications on the Mac
•An Introduction to your iDevice and its potential using VoiceOver
•VoiceOver and iOS: Basic Gestures and the Item Rotor Explained
•VoiceOver and Applications in iOS: A Crash Course
• Your Apple Devices and Their Connectivity and Potential Power

What I need from You

Now, what I would like from those who are interested is to please respond
to my ideas for the how, when and what options. You can do this by using the
https://macfortheblind.com/contact-us
Link on the main page
or you can email me directly at,
j...@macfortheblind.com
Please indicate in the subject that you are interested in attending the
online courses. Also, please tell me the following:
•What conferencing method might be desired or felt to be the easiest for you to
use?
•What days of the week and times of the day would be most convenient for you to
attend an online course that would last between one hour and an hour and a half?
•Out of the topics listed above, please let me know which ones would be of the
most interest to you.

Once I receive responses from the community, I will contact you directly
with details and set up the initial course time and material. If I receive a
mixture of suggestions, I will do my best to present multiple courses with the
desired topics to accommodate as many folks as I possibly can.

I thank you in advance for your interest, and I hope that I will meet you
online in the near future.

Take Care

 Hello Lorie,

Unless you manually sign out of the Zoom app, you should remain signed in.

It might be a good idea for you to enable the Face ID / Touch ID toggle,
located in the Settings area of the app.

If you have not enabled either of these authentication features, on your
iOS device, before installing the app, then that could be the reason why
you are continually prompted to enter your Zoom login credentials.
