Reading difficult documents in Voice dream Reader

2020-04-18 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
>From time to time I need to read a difficult document such as a part of a
>technical document or the lyrics of a song using VO and Voice Dream Reader. I
>would like to read such documents (or parts thereof) paragraph by paragraph or
>sentence by sentence or line by line.

I find that For DOCX files I can repeatedly do a 1 finger right flick to read
the document in easily digestible pieces possibly controlled by the Navigation
Unit setting. Alas I have not found a way to read PDF or TXT or RTF files by
paragraph or sentence or line. I can repeatedly do a 3 finger flick up but that
seems to move the document down by 1 line and then read the resultant
paragraph. This is a very slow way to read as I keep hearing text I have read
before.

Is there a good way to read PDF or TXT or RTF files in small pieces. Even line
by line would be good.

Many thanks for any tips and keep well … Paul Hopewell

Re: Reading difficult documents in Voice dream Reader

2020-04-18 Thread Phil Halton
Voice dream writer, the companion app to voice dream reader is absolutely the
app for you in this case. I use it for precisely the same reasons you state, I
can’t listen to difficult material read back in a continuous flow so I load the
file into voice dream writer which gives me the option of reading by paragraph
by sentence or by heading or even bike word and character with a single flip of
the cursor. It’s only limitation is you can only load in text files.txt.
However to get around this limitation you can first load The file, be a PDF or
whatever format, into Voice Dream reader, and then export the text to writer.
So in effect you can read any file type in Writer but must first go through the
reader app. P.S.the process of exporting text from reader into Writer has been
made a little more obscure in the last update, so, if you do buy the app and
are having trouble, right again and I’ll give you the details.A

In order to export text into writer from the reader app, select the “document“
button at the top left next to the library button. Then select “export all
text“. In the share sheet that appears you are looking for “copy to writer“.
Recent version updates have buried this copy to writer in the “more “options
button. Find that, and tap on copy to writer and the text will be exported and
writer will open. look for your text file in the file manager, it will have the
same name as the file that was opened in reader. Sent from my IPhone

Re: RS Games on Catalina?

2020-04-18 Thread Faith Girvan
I didn’t test it, because it actually says on the site they don’t have a
version yet available for the newest Mac version. So currently, I am playing it
on my window side. But yes, that is correct.

Hi Faith, and all on list. this link will work here. the 64 bit version is
currently in beta, but I’ve run it here, and all seems fine here, not having
any issues with it. Here’s the link off the downloads page.

Take care.

1. I think it's better of the device if it isn't on all the time.
2. I don't want to be disturbed. I know I could turn on airplane mode or
something like that but since I think it should be off sometimes I might as
well do it when I don't want to be disturbed.

Help with saving files in Pages

2020-04-18 Thread Eric Caron
Hi Folks,

I’m hoping a Pages user can walk me through the file menu of the Pages
app.

I need to understand how things work and I think my years as a Microsoft Word
user is getting in the way.

I’m looking for a easy way to save a document I’m working in and give it a new
name or save it to a different location.

When I press Save nothing seems to happen but I’m pretty sure it has saved my
recent changes.

If I press Duplicate it makes a copy but then I’m dumped back into my file and
have not been able to change the name or save it to a new place.
If I press rename It seems to open and then I’m back in my file without being
able to give it a new name.

And pressing Move brings me a place where I can select some locations with a
button but not go more deeply into a folder to save the document.

I’m sure it is me just not understanding the work flow so I’d love some tips on
saving and naming files in Pages.

Appreciatively,

Eric Caron

Re: Help with saving files in Pages

2020-04-18 Thread Brad Snyder
In the File menu, if you hold down the OPTION key, the Duplicate command
changes to Save As.
Or, just use the keyboard command CMD + OPT + SHIFT + S for Save As while
working in a document.

Eric Caron

Re: Editing Formulas in Excel for the Mac

2020-04-18 Thread Dave Carlson
Tim,
That does not work. Do I need to have any specific settings enabled to edit
formulas?
