Re: Headings in Mac pages or Word

2020-04-13 Thread 'Andrew Lamanche' via MacVisionaries
Anne And Archie Robertson have written a book on word processing on the mac.
It might be worth your while buying this book. Anne is a member on this list.
I can’t remember where you might purchase the book from in either. epub or
pages or pdf format but someone on the list might know.

The title of the book is “My mac Pages - A VoiceOver Guide to Word processing’.

Re: Bug in new version of Numbers on OS X

2020-04-13 Thread Jürgen Fleger
Hello Anne,

have you encountered the following new issue: Delete rows or columns. VoiceOver
will still anounce them without a column character even though they are no
longer visible. Use VO + Arrow keys to find them. I experienced this issue on
three different Macs so it might be a generel issue.

All the best

Hi,

If you are using a Mac with the Touch Bar then when you highlight the heading
you want to assign a style to you can use the features at the left of the Touch
Bar to assign a stile - let me know if you are not sure or if you are using a
non Touch Bar model

IOS delete a contacts group

2020-04-13 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello Tim,
Many thanks for your description on how to delete a spurious contacts group
from my iPhone. It got sorted out but not quite as you described. I did the
following:

Went to Settings and Apple ID on my iPhone and then iCloud and unchecked
contacts.
In the resultant dialogue I chose delete from my iPhone.
Backed out of contacts and Apple ID and closed settings.
Checked contacts on my iMac and all was correct.
Checked contacts on my iPhone , all iCloud contacts were gone but all the
previously iPhone only contacts and the spurious group were still there. I was
surprised at this.
On my iPhone went back to settings and Apple ID and iCloud and turned on
contacts again. In the resultant dialogue chose merge iPhone contacts with
iCloud contacts.
backed out of contacts and iCloud and Apple ID on my iPhone.
Looked at contacts on my iMac and to my surprise saw that the spurious group
was now on my iMac.
Selected the spurious group on the iMac and then went to the contacts menu and
deleted that group.

That did the trick and the spurious group is now gone from both iMac and
iPhone. All contacts on both devices are now correct!!
Many thanks … Paul Hopewell

Sharing books to VOiceDream.

2020-04-13 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
Together with Petrus Tuerlings I have been looking into this. You were able to
export books purchased from the Apple books store to Voice Dream in the past
but this no longer works on the latest IOS 13.4.1. All that you can now export
to Voice Dream is the publisher's book description, not the entire book.
Petrus tells me that it was possible to export the entire book in earlier IOS
releases, but no longer.
If your concern is poor responsiveness of the books app on IOS try turning off
scrolling view. Open the book of interest then choose Appearance then scrolling
view and turn it off.
Best regards … Paul Hopewell

Re: Sharing books to VOiceDream.

2020-04-13 Thread Phil Halton
My biggest concern with the Books app on the iPhone is that you cannot read
sentence by sentence or paragraph by paragraph. You have to listen to the whole
thing read in a continuous flow, or try reading line by line but then you don’t
get any of the benefits of the punctuation. Either way it’s a disjointed way of
having to read. Just not very granular I guess you would say.

VoiceOver via BT2 inductive neckloop

2020-04-13 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
I am running the latest Catalina on my iMac. I have a BT2 Inductive NeckLoop
which I can connect to my iMac via bluetooth and to my hearing aids via their
tele coil input.
I shall shortly be hosting some Zoom meetings. To avoid disturbing the other
meeting participants I would like to route the VoiceOver output to the NeckLoop
and the audio from the Zoom meeting to my iMac internal speakers.
I have been doing some experimenting today and successfully connected the
NeckLoop to my iMac. I then started playing some music on the iMac and used
system preferences to change sound output device to bluetooth which resulted in
the music being played through my NeckLoop while VoiceOver still came over the
iMac internal speakers. This is the opposite of what I wanted!
Is it possible to route VoiceOver to the bluetooth NeckLoop and Zoom audio to
the internal speakers?
Many thanks for any tips …. Paul Hopewell

Re: VoiceOver via BT2 inductive neckloop

2020-04-13 Thread Dave Carlson
Paul,
I’m hearing a couple things here.

Why do you need the Zoom audio to come out through your speakers? Are you
having others in the room also hear what’s going on, but not wanting them to
hear the Voiceover?

Otherwise, I could understand you wanting to have your voice picked up through
the computer microphone, and all received audio come through your inductive
neck loop.

BTW very clever idea, isolating Voiceover to the neck loop.

Hi!
Open VoiceOver utility and select the audio or sound category.
Here you have several settings for VoiceOver sounds.
You can for example select where the Speech is going to come from.

How to unmute accidentally muted VoiceOver?

2020-04-13 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
I use VoiceOver on my iMac running the latest Catalina.
Occasionally I do something which results in VoiceOver speech muted. How can I
easily unmute VoiceOver without asking for sighted help?
Stopping and restarting VoiceOver with Command+F5 does not help. VoiceOver just
restarts with speech off!
I note that on my iPhone I can do a 3 finger double tap to toggle speech on and
off. It would be great if there were a iMac keyboard command to do this.
Many thanks … Paul Hopewell

Re: How to unmute accidentally muted VoiceOver?

2020-04-13 Thread Paul Mimms
Press the command key plus F5 to start a voiceover. If you accidentally muted
the speech tap the trackpad twice with three fingers to unmute it.

Re: How to unmute accidentally muted VoiceOver?

2020-04-13 Thread Anders Holmberg
Hi!
Do you have a trackpad handy?
You can do the double tap with three fingers on that to unmute VoiceOver.
You can create a shortcut in VoiceOver-utility to turn on and off speech.

Re: How to unmute accidentally muted VoiceOver?

2020-04-13 Thread Dave Carlson
Paul,
Another method to mute and unmute is using a touchbar, if you have one. double
tap with a single finger just to the left of where SIRI is located. Or double
tap SIRI and ask to turn speech on, should also work.

Re: How to unmute accidentally muted VoiceOver?

2020-04-13 Thread Dave Carlson
Paul,
Sorry didn’t think this through. Double tapping the touchbar just left of the
SIRI position mutes all sounds, including Voiceover. Voiceover speech on/off is
via the touchpad with the three-finger double tap as previously reported.

Re: How to unmute accidentally muted VoiceOver?

2020-04-13 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

One addition to everyone's suggestion of double-tapping with three fingers on
the TrackPad. If this gesture does not work for you, the TrackPad Commander
may not be enabled. To enable the TrackPad Commander, hold down the VO keys,
then twist two fingers on the Trackpad in a gesture like you're turning up a
volume knob. This will enable the TrackPad Commander so that this gesture will
take. Turn down the virtual knob to turn TrackPad commander off. If you do
not have a TrackPad, press VO-f8 to open the VO Utility, press cmd-3 to bring
focus to the Speech category, press tab twice then the spacebar once to uncheck
the "Mute Speech" checkbox. As mentioned, you may wish to create a keyboard
commander item for this to make your life easier.

Later...

Re: Sharing books to VOiceDream.

2020-04-13 Thread Petrus Tuerlings
Hi Paul,
Not sure if you saw my email from yesterday, but I feel like a right plonker.
I don’t think I was ever able to export books purchased through the apple book
store to voice dream. I blamed my age as I think it was the IOS 11 without the
eye that I saved into the books app and the voice dream reader app as I got
that one through Jonathan Mosen. The fact that the book was about IOS probably
confused me.
So I can apologise again.

Emails not sinking between devices

2020-04-13 Thread Petrus Tuerlings
Hi all,
Not sure why my emails between my phone and my Mac are not sinking at the
moment. It’s been working fine up until this morning and I’ve not changed any
settings anywhere. It could be the internet over here as a lot of schools have
gone back after easter and all the kids are doing online learning with Zoom
classrooms and the net might just be over loaded. I received a new email on my
phone about half an hour ago and it hasn’t yet appeared on my Mac.

Re: Emails not sinking between devices

2020-04-13 Thread 'Jason White' via MacVisionaries
Are you sure the Mac can connect to the server? If so, the problem might be at
the server end. It isn’t necessarily at your end of the connection.

I would normally say “check the server logs”, but I realize you probably aren’t
running your own email server, so that really doesn’t help. That’s what I would
do, as I run my own server for all of my personal mail.

Subject: Emails not sinking between devices

Hi,
I can’t say about that now. When I purchased mine I order the trackpad instead
of a mouse.

 Hi,

When you say "data", do you mean simply data such as documents and such
that might be stored on your Desktop or in your Documents folder? Or, do
you mean third party applications and such as well? If the former, then
those are easy to just put back on from either syncing your Desktop and
Documents folder to iCloud or by storing them on external media. If the
latter, then you may not be able to do a true clean install if you're
worried about losing settings and such for various installed apps.

my question now is that, i can not Remember what data do i need in my Mac

install, then put my data back? do not know if iti it will be a clean

Re: Emails not sinking between devices

Hi Petrus,

Simply Turn On and Turn OFF the email sync between devices. Also on your
Mac just logout and login back to your email account and restart the device.
