RE: Touch ID Issue

2020-04-07 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Hi Petrus,

On your phone have a look under settings and display / brightness I think it is,
Under there is an automatic lock,

Can you set that to none and see what happens?

I’m thinking if you can do it on your 8 then she will be able to step through
this and do it on her phone.

Flick me off list if yo want to run through this for her.

Now this is another Touch ID question so I left the subject line the same.
I’m trying to help someone else on another blind iPhone users email list that
I’m on. She is in her 80s and uses an iPhone mostly for playing games on. She
has a lot of trouble using the virtual keyboard to enter her Apple ID password.
She’s asking about Touch ID as it might make it easier for her. Can one stop
the screen from locking automatically so she doesn’t need to use Touch ID to
unlock her phone all the time but leave the Touch ID activated for her game
purchases in the App Store? She lives on her own so doesn’t need to lock her
phone as often. I think she will be able to cope with the six digit pass code

Thanks Tim,
I’ll wait till she replies as I already told her she will probably need sited
help to set up her touch ID, but then she should be fine after that. Bit hard
to get help at the moment with lockdown.

Yes, for sure. In Settings, Display & Brightness, you can set the Auto-Lock

into Settings, Touch ID & Pass-Code enter the pass-code, then un-tick the box
for using Touch ID to unlock the iPhone.

Good luck and stay safe.

Apple watch and new Apple ID

2020-04-07 Thread Timothy Emmons

Good morning all. My wife and I have shared the same Apple ID for years for
whatever reason. We're now using separate IDS. She's able to sign in on her
phone fine. However, her watch gives a notification that in order to complete a
purchase she needs to sign into my ID. Ihe's reset and re-pared the watch with
the same results. We are using the family sharing. She has been added as a
family member and I have allowed purchases and such to be shared between us.
What's going on. Does she need to sign into my ID on her watch?she shouldn't
but I wondered if I might be missing something. Any help here would be
appreciated. Thanks guys.

Upgrade to iPad OS 13.4 broke my Logiteh Slim Combo keyboard

2020-04-07 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi all,

This email is in part a question and in part a warning.

When I upgraded to iPad OS 13.4 last week, it broke my Logitech Slim Combo
keyboard, rendering my iPad very unfriendly to use. I can no longer use the
backspace key to delete an email message I am reading. The character/language
and function keys no longer work in most contexts. I am no longer able to use
either Enter or VO-Space to activate buttons. Same is true for activating links
in Safari. The only way I can accomplish either of those tasks now is via touch
on the iPad. Using FN plus arrow keys no longer works for navigation. So here’s
the warning. If you use an iPad with a Logitech keyboard, I recommend not
upgrading to 13.4.

And my question. A google search has shown that I’m not the only one
experiencing this, so I am wondering if any other users of Logitech keyboards
have found work-arounds?
Cheers,
Donna

Hello,
I am running the latest update to Catalina on my iMac. For some reason the

I get it back?
The basso sound to indicate that a new Email has arrived is still working fine.

Using FaceTime to make phone calls with your iPhone in Hand-off

2020-04-07 Thread Timothy Emmons
Good morning y’all, I’m just loaded with questions today. I think we got the
apple watch issue solved this morning but I appreciate the accessibility number
I may need that later on. At any rate, I have another question. Since working
at home I was thinking of using FaceTime and hand-off to make and receive phone
calls while I’m working since I’m at the computer instead of juggling cell
phone and mac back and forth. I went to do this this morning and dialed my
voicemail fine, but I can’t seem to navigate to a keypad to enter the user id
and pin to access my voicemail. I can place and receive calls great, but can’t
seem to do the other. What am I missing. I used to play with this a long time
ago and without practice I have totally forgot. Thanks guys for any help here,
as always. You guys are an invaluable connection to have for sure. take care
and talk to you soon.

Re: Upgrade to iPad OS 13.4 broke my Logiteh Slim Combo keyboard

2020-04-07 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi Donna,

It's not just the LogiTech keyboards. My Smart Keyboard for my iPad Pro
behaves similar to your explanation. I will play some more to see if I can
figure any workarounds out. For now, I've just ignored it and used my other
devices. Hmmm, I'll have to confirm, but I believe that this is also happening
with my Apple Magic Keyboard and my iPhone. Again, I'll see what I can
confirm. Probably a note to Apple Accessibility is in the order since this
seems to truly be an accessibility screw-up.

Cheers,
Donna

Re: Using FaceTime to make phone calls with your iPhone in Hand-off

2020-04-07 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

You'll need to do a virtual click, VO-shift-space, somewhere in the FaceTime
window first. After you do this, proper focus is brought to FaceTime and your
number presses on the Mac keyboard should work. If you still have problems,
let me know and I'll do some actual testing to see if I'm remembering correctly.

Re: Forwarding a Text Message on the Mac

2020-04-07 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

It's particularly inconsistent, but doable in most cases. Navigate to the
message you wish to forward, then either VO-space, or VO-shift-space, on it
before invoking the VO-shift-m to bring up the Contextual menu. Usually, the
Forward option will appear. Notice I said "usually". In some cases, no matter
what I did, I couldn't get it to appear no matter which of numerous tricks I
used including routing the mouse to the VO cursor with VO-cmd-f5. Hopefully,
the message you choose to forward is one that is more cooperative.

Good luck and stay safe.

Latest tvOS and macOS. Watching movies and TV shows in the Computers
app do not update the play count even though this option is checked in
System prefs, Sharing category. Viewing history is also checked in the

When I choose the Unwatched list on the ATV, shows and movies I have
already watched are still there. Is there another setting somewhere I
need to look for?

Using a bluetooth speaker with VO?

2020-04-07 Thread Matt Turner
Hi folks.
I’m using the latest version of iOS 13.4.
Instead of VoiceOver coming thru the phone, it now is coming thru the bluetooth
speaker.
I’ve tried changing the audio destination, but it just defaults to the
bluetooth speaker.
Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

Pleasantly surprised with Microsoft Applications.

2020-04-07 Thread 'Kawal Gucukoglu' via MacVisionaries
Hi All.

Today I have downloaded Microsoft on the Mac and I am surprised how easy it is
to use although I haven’t tried Microsoft word yet. I downloaded the
applications because I am getting the Elbraille shortly as I was not happy with
windows on my Mac machine but it doesn’t mean I won’t use it though if I need
to. But I wanted to put my files on One Drive so it didn’t matter if I was
using I cloud or One drive depending what system I was using. I have played
with Microsoft outlook on the Mac and it’s not bad. However, I still love my
Apple mail, nothing can beat that. I can’t see my Macvisionary or other
folders if I use Outlook as it won’t sync those folders as I have individual
folders for all my separate mail lists that I subscribe to. When I tried
Microsoft on the Mac before may be in 2015, it was horrible. I also tried
moving ICloud files using my I phone but it didn’t work so I had to download
the Microsoft applications for the Mac. I found windows on this 2015 Mac very
sluggish. If I ever find a job, the first thing I get is a brand new I Mac.
I’m waiting for the epidemic to be over so we can all apply for jobs or get
back to work depending on what all our circumstances are. I do hope you are
all well and safe at this time.

Kawal.

on or off, I have mine set too off. You just need to restart your phone if you
change this setting. Hopefully this will work.

Hi All.

Was there not a theory some years ago that you could not forward text messages
unless they were I messages on the Mac? I haven’t tried in a long time but I
thought it didn’t work. Handy Tim for your tip with text messages.

Mac asking for my password when it's supposed to be asleep

2020-04-07 Thread Lorie McCloud
this often happens several hours after I have put my Mac to sleep. I'll be in
another room and I'll hear it say: "enter password." what would make that
happen? it might have something to do with updates. I can never find anything
in my notifications.

thanks.

Installing Zoom on the Mac

2020-04-07 Thread Petrus Tuerlings
Hi all,
We are going to try and install The Zoom App on my wife’s Mac and I know with
Catalina one needs to verify an app or something like that once it is installed
as part of the security. How does one do this again. I’m not Overly worried
about VoiceOver accessibility as my wife doesn’t use it. However we might turn
on VoiceOver while we are installing it and setting it up so I can help her.
Thanks in advance,
Petrus

Petrus, Go to system preferences/security. Look for an area for downloading
apps and select App store and trusted providers. Then you can allow
installation from a trusted internet site. And Zoom is pretty darn VO-friendly,
too.

Hi Petrus,

If you're not the meeting organizer and will simply be part of any Zoom
meeting, then you can simply copy paste the meeting link in your browser
and join the meeting, without installing the Zoom application on your Mac.

Go to the extras menu, arrow to bluetooth. VO+space to open menu. VO arrow down
to Open bluetooth preferences. There in System preferences, click on the
advanced button. Arrow to a checkbox talking about allowing bluetooth devices

Lorie,
Another place where an external signal can wake your Mac is in System
Preferences/Energy Saver. There you tell whether Wi-Fi network can wake your
computer while connected to power or on battery. See if unchecking this makes a
difference.

2020-04-07 Thread 'Shawn Krasniuk' via MacVisionaries
Hey Jessica. I can answer both of your questions. First for the Playroom web
client, pressing F1 should give you the shortcut keys you can use in every game
most of the time. As for your question re RS Games, it seems like volume
controls are broken. Pressing F5 or F6 will turn on or turn off sounds. Don't
forget that this is a beta. They might fix it in the future. We just don't know
when.

I’ve just this passed Monday received a new keyboard for my iPad mini 5

I’ll have to try these things and see if it’s effected.

Cheers,
Donna

Hi tim,

Wow, that's interesting. It said in the release notes that there was some
change related to making the Magic keyboard compatible, so I figured the
problem had something to do with that. At least if it's impacting other
keyboards, we can hope that there might be a fix reasonably soon.

I sent feedback to Apple, but not directly to Apple Accessibility. I'll do that
right now.
Cheers,
Donna

RE: Installing Zoom on the Mac

2020-04-07 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Hi Petrus,

You / your wife should be able to see an item pop up in the top right corner of
the screen I think it says allow.

Or under system preferences,
Security / privacy
Under the general tab
Unlock it and click allow.

I’m guessing I’m late in the reply but it should come back to you quickly when
you try it.

Hi all,
We are going to try and install The Zoom App on my wife’s Mac and I know with
Catalina one needs to verify an app or something like that once it is installed
as part of the security. How does one do this again. I’m not Overly worried
about VoiceOver accessibility as my wife doesn’t use it. However we might turn
on VoiceOver while we are installing it and setting it up so I can help her.
Thanks in advance,
Petrus
