Re: Accessible open world games for Mac Or IOS?

2020-03-21 Thread 'Devin Prater' via MacVisionaries
There are MUD’s, Multi-user Dungeons, which used to be more like Dungeons and
Dragons type simple stuff, but which have grown, some, to be pretty complex and
large. Some accessible ones are:
Alteraeon
Asteria
Clok
Erion

And probably plenty more.
On the Mac, you’ll have to dig into the command line, getting Homebrew
, TDSR , and Tintin

On iOS, you’ll need to use MudRammer
.
Hope this helps.

Re: Accessible open world games for Mac Or IOS?

2020-03-21 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Excellent! Thanks, Devon! I don't really care about playing on the Mac, so will
stick to IOS and Mudrammer. I know nothing about Mudrammer, is it hard to set
up?

And just to add to this list, I started digging through games on my Phone to
see what I could find. Two that fit the bill are:
King of Dragon Pass
Six Ages

Both these games have a play objective, which is essentially to become king.
However, when I have played them in the past, I didn't really care about that,
so I just played without really trying to win. They're both great games, with a
fun sound track to accompany them. They are IOS apps, so can just be
downloaded from the App store, no additional apps required.
Cheers,
Donna

Re: Catalina: How Would I Put Audio Books on my iPHone?

2020-03-21 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

You shouldn't even need to do things that way. As long as your audio books are
on your Mac, when you upgrade to Catalina, they will migrate into the Catalina
Books app. In your Apple ID iCloud pane of System Prefs, make sure that Books
sync to the Cloud, and they should therefore all be available to your iPhone.
It would initially be an iCloud book, but you can download it, or just
double-tap on it to begin reading and it should download to the iPhone.

Later...

Re: Catalina: How Would I Put Audio Books on my iPHone?

2020-03-21 Thread Dave Carlson
I don’t like to work that way. I use audio book binder to create a m4b file
that I can put in my iTunes library. Then I don’t fall victim to the 21-day
limit for library loans.

Re: Catalina: How Would I Put Audio Books on my iPHone?

2020-03-21 Thread Dave Carlson
Tim,
I download MP3 audio books from my library’s web site via . Then I convert the
tracks into an audio book using audio book binder. Then I paste them into my
“automatically add to iTunes” folder. Then I sync with my iPhone or iPod.
Without iTunes, what would be the way to paste them into the audio book player
on my iPHone?

a question about voiceover voices on IOS?

2020-03-21 Thread Karen Lewellen

and a side siri one as well?
Will ask the siri one first..can it be removed once installed?
The voiceover voice question has to do with sound quality.
I finally found a discussion thread about this with others noting the same
thing. Daniel who I believe is the UK English voice changed in its
enhanced form a while back. I do not know if it has been improved, or
better still when was the last upgrade to the Daniel voice?
I have an iPhone in the 5 family. it is possiblethat upgrading IOS
itself, or the voice, if I can, will improve things.
for now though the quality clarity and pronunciation is rather
dreadful.
I did not want siri, but apple accessibility, who was talking
with the person helping me use the phone suggested the download because
voiceover itself was not working well according to them.
Siri, which was male in this case, sounded worse than the Daniel voice
itself.
I believe? Nuance makes the apple voices. Is there any way to reach them
directly?
last of all, I understand there are other options for voices, with my
wondering about direct contacts too, as I will have to walk someone else
through reaching them.
My situation is that since most software generated speech is in a
frequency range that stimulates my brain's dizzy centres, experimenting
can make me rather sick. That is what happened when trying to resolve the
Daniel / male siri situation.

meaning I really want to plan ahead before testing anything further.
ideas?
Karen
