Never mind, I’m not sure if I can remember my administrator password as I’ve
only ever used my Apple ID password as far as I know and I set this machine up
over a year ago and don’t think I’ve needed to use that password again since.

After you hit the power button to turn the machine on.

Did you put the full command in to the terminal?

Sudo nvram StartupMute=%00

Then when you paste that or type that into your terminal window you should get
a request for password and then entering that and hitting enter wont tell you
anything but you should be able to restart your machine and when you get the
restart happening
You should hear the start up tone.

Nope. Didn’t work. Is this sound supposed to happen after the power button is
pressed to turn it on? Or after the login and password? And I do not get a
request for my admin password when I add that line to the terminal, and yes my
logon is an admin account.
I just don’t get it. Why is everyone else having so much fun, and I’m not?

Inspect element in Chrome

2020-02-23 Thread Nebojsa Tasic

I have to inspect elements in Chrome and copy them and their XPaths.
When I press Inspect element, Voice Over reads the element but than
focus changes to somewhere else and I can't return back to the element.

On Windows when I press Inspect element focus stays on the element. Than
I press applications key and choose copy element and copy XPath.

Could you tell me how to do this on Mac?

Simon,
Okay, I guess I’m just not doing the right thing in this terminal window.
I run terminal.app from my Applications/Utilities folder
I hear some stuff about my name and the last login.
Is this where I simply paste that text? I’ve done so, and never get a request

Re: Accessible Terminal

2020-02-23 Thread Jonathan Cohn
I have barely used the Catalina terminal, and I have not heard anything about
it being more accessible. I have always been able to navigate via word and
character with the Mac terminal program and it certainly was less frustrating
than using an SSH client I was forced to use on Windows 10 years ago with JAWS.
The trick was one clear out the buffer occasionally with command-k and make
sure you interact with the text. So before I did anything that might produce a
lot of output I always clear out the scroll back buffer or redirect the output
using the tee program.
Jonathan

Simon,
Okay, finally got it working.
First, I thought it was that I needed to press return after pasting, but in
actuality, immediately after pasting, I heard “Password”. Then I typed my
password and hit enter.
That got it working.
It’s a subtle, and fairly quiet sound. Any way to bring up the volume of that
sound?

Re: Audio description on CBS all access using iPhone or Apple TV

2020-02-23 Thread Peg Jolene
Actually, there is some audio description on CBS All Access. I haven't had much
luck getting it to work consistently, however. With reference to Star Trek
Picard, I got it to work on my iPhone. The app is not especially accessible so
one needs patience in using a combination of explore by touch and general
iPhone VoiceOver gestures. Start an episode, then tap until controls and
buttons appear. Locate the settings button, activate this, and audio and
subtitle options should appear. Swipe right through subtitles and audio options
until you find English-AD. Activate it and return to your episode. The process
may need to be repeated per show or episode. your experience may change from
device to device. For example, I can play Star Trek discovery with the
scription on my Apple TV, but not on my phone. Have fun!
