RNIB Penfriend 3

2019-07-22 Thread 'Adrienne Chalmers' via MacVisionaries
Hi

I bought the new RNIB Penfriend, a talking label device. There is a download
tool for Windows only.

I have had the two previous versions of the labeller and it has been possible
to manually copy over the voice files to the internal memory of the device.
This time it doesn’t seem to work.

I have called RNIB and they just told me to run Windows on my Mac, which seems
to me to be a sledgehammer to crack a nut. I emailed the manufacturer, but they
have not replied.

Has anyone else had this problem, or any ideas how to fix it? I have to sort
this in a few days, as I will need to return the thing if I can’t get it to
work.

Best

Adrienne

Delayed warning

2019-07-22 Thread 'Robert Cole' via MacVisionaries
Dear List,
I hope someone can tell me how to fix this problem.
For example, When I empty the trash, or the mail trash, about 1 minute later, I
get the message, “Are you sure you want to empty the trash?”
Well, If I wasn’t sure, its to late to ask me 1 minute after I already emptied
 the trash.
The VoiceOver Hints are set to the lowest 0.4 seconds. I don’t know whatelse to
check.
Thanks,
Rob

Shift click on some items in extras menu.

2019-07-22 Thread Anders Holmberg
Hi!
On some items you can get other menus when you do a shift option mouse click.
FOr example in the extras menu which you bring up with voiceover m and then m
again there is a shift and mouse click menu for bluetooth.
Here you can reset the bluetooth module.
But the problem is that you can’t do this with VoiceOver.
At least i can’t do it by bringing the mouse to the bluetooth item and holding
shift and option together and pressing the trackpad on my mac mini.
DO i need a mouse maybe to do this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi!
If they don’t want to create a mac tool then the windows tool is the only way
to go i guess.
As long its not visible in Finder its imposible to do something about it.

I recently got a new Macbook Pro and am in the process of setting it up.

I also experience this delay. I think it has something to do with

Did you recently get a new computer or do an update?

Re: Delayed warning

2019-07-22 Thread Jeff Berwick
Okay, I may have found it.

Go into System Preferences and choose Accessibility.

Select the “Speech” option and then click the “Options” button after the
“Enable Notifications” checkbox which is probably checked.

Once in there, you can set the delay. Mine was set to 20 seconds and the
lowest setting seems to be three.

Hth,
Jeff

In the market for a new laptop, your advice?

2019-07-22 Thread Ibraheem Fakir
Hey group,
Hope you’re all well! I’m in the market for a new Apple laptop, looking for
something that can run windows jaws and Duxbury. Saw the MacBook Pro and the
MacBook Aire posted online, and unsure if the higher end of the MacBook Aire is
fit to do the job or if the MacBook Pro is the better option here. Any
suggestions?

I’m looking to run windows on either Boot Camp or virtual hard drive, also
looking for suggestions on this set up. All input is deeply appreciated.

All best,
Ibraheem

RE: Delayed warning

2019-07-22 Thread M. Taylor
Great catch, Jeff.

I followed your instructions and located the control in question.

I could get mine down to as low as 0 but set it to 3.

Nicely done and thank you so much for the info.

Mark
