RE: the new iPad 9.7"

2017-03-29 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Alex,

Yeah those are the only things I could really see.

Processor as the a9 is still behind the iPhone 7x processor but think the a10
is in the pro iPads,

Better screen slightly lighter and I wasn’t sure for a start but is the price
really down slightly?

Here in nz the 5 128 GB models are: 699 for wifi,
919 for wifi / cellular
 Still bloody costly,

I’m happy currently with my mini 4
Would bein heaven if I could rdp in t o my windows machines and macs for that
matter with speech access.

The reasons I can see are:

* They were able to rename it to the iPad, thus simplifying the iPad lineup

* They upped the CPU, from the A8X of the Air 2 to the A9.

* They made some changes to the screen and body, letting them lower the price
to offer a more compelling entry-level tablet

2017-03-29 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Scott,

No chance it bytes in to pro line,

The specs are far lighter in the new 5,
Mind you I'd kind of like to see a pro in the mini size.
And no matter what product they need to bring the pricing down.

I believe they are really pointing this towards institutional buyers much like
the eMac of old. Make it not quite as light, and not as great at graphics, but
I believe the education price is $299.

I have seen a few school boards move from using iPads to using Chrome Books.
Chromium appears to be at least as secure as IOS and one gets a keyboard
bundled in albeit not a keyboard I enjoy typing on.

Best Wishes,

Just go to purchased items and click on install next to the most recent

Yeah,
Creating a bootable installer is bloody easy now and done from the terminal.

Hi,

Is this even necessary to do everytime a new update is released. Is it still
possible to create a bootable mac os recovery? Recovery disk assistant use to
be able to do this, but last time I tried it I got a blank window when I opened
it. I guess this is not possible.

Just go to purchased items and click on install next to the most recent 12.4
install. Once the install starts and prompts you quit and find the file under
Applications.

Hi Listers,

Ok so with the apple release craziness yesterday,
Does anyone know if there was an update to the EarPods and if so is it
automatically updated to my earpods through my phone?

I wish they would update the EarPods I gotta say I'm losing faith in the pods
as well as apple.

The pods need controls and a safety strap around your neck,

Cheers for any info you can provide.

VNC on mac OSX

2017-03-29 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Listers,

I'm just wondering if anyone has played with VNC on a mac computer?

I've got a mac book air and a mac mini,

The air is running sierra and the mini is a late 2012 quad core machine spec'd
out to the max for work,

Its running Yosemite currently and I'mtrying to setup remote access / desktop
to the mini which I've got working however I can't get vo to speak through the
connection,
Yet playing around with el capitan a couple of months ago I managed to have vo
working through the remote connection and can't figure out how I did it.

Can anyone else advise on this and if they have had it work for them?

Cheers,

Yes I know.. I have an ions;ler already. I was just wondering if it is

this makes sense.

objects and object data.

Re: VNC on mac OSX

2017-03-29 Thread Tyler Thompson
Ultimately you would have to use the remote machines screen reader.
Unfortunately VNC does not support audio. You might be able to rig up some
bizarre setup where you transmit audio over SSH and let VNC capture keyboard
commands but you may have better luck with something like teamviewer

Re: Elon Musk is developing human machine interfaces

2017-03-29 Thread Bill Gallik
Scott et al,

I’d like to offer a couple of observations in reply to your e-mail message:

First, The University of Wisconsin Health Sciences Department (and I do mean
THE University of Wisconsin in Madison) has been conducting some quite
successful experiments with they refer to as “Brain Port” where a light
processing device is placed on the tip of the tongue to find that those visual
signals were routed to the visual cortex of the participating subjects. One of
those subjects is a friend I met while attending the North Central Technical
College in Wausau. I was quite curious and asked her if she considered this
“true vision” or if it was perception that she trained her brain to interpret
as vision. According to Cathy the phenomena was indeed “true vision,” adding
that she was able to watch a ball roll across a table top. Cathy was fully
sighted as a young girl and gradually lost her vision so she would certainly be
aware of “true vision."

Second, I wonder if the Wright Brothers ever realized they were laying the
foundation for Man’s journey into space? My point being this, technology
progresses painfully slowly in many cases. Moore’s Law is more the exception
than the rule and whatever this “mad scientist” Scott refers to herein is able
to initiate it is only a very small initial step. I will caution that many of
us on this list beyond 30 years of age may never be around to witness the
culmination of en mass restored vision, but so far as I’m concerned God Bless
folks like this that get the ball rolling!

Every time there is an update, I copy it to an external drive (I
save them all for the current OS I am running) and rename it with the
new version. Then redo the USB installer now using Install Disk Creator.

Pages 6.1 And Headings

2017-03-29 Thread Barry Hadder
Incase anyone was unaware, you can now navigate by headings in a pages document
using Voiceover.
Just bring up the roter with vo-u and there is a headings list as well as book
marks. I really haven't been paying close attention to Pages lately so I don't
know how long the heading rotor has been there but it may be new as well. A
nice thing about the new bookmarks feature is that it appears to automatically
apply a bookmark to a heading style so they also appear in the bookmarks list.
Just thought I would pass this along.

Hello Barry,

what a great news. I checked it for version 6.0.5 and there were no headlines

Re: Pages 6.1 And Headings

2017-03-29 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

Yes, that is great news. Just a note of clarification though, the update is to
Pages, not VoiceOver, although it does affect VO. This emphasizes the
consideration that if apps have the proper accessible elements, then they are,
by default, accessible to VO. This is also not disputing that continuous
improvements to VO are in Apple's plan. Not sure why anyone would consider
otherwise.

Pages headers & footers how to get rid of them
