Re: where do i find my info on the mac

2015-11-18 Thread Sabahattin Gucukoglu
Hey Zoe,

I really think you should find somewhere to put at least your critical
stuff—documents and whatnot. Don’t worry about the software on your Mac until
you have made certain that your stuff is safe. iCloud Drive, if you don’t mind
Apple keeping it for you, is one such place.

Then, yes, it’s a good idea to have an external drive from which to do your
installs or onto which you make your backups. If you put your critical stuff
into iCloud drive, then you could get a cheap USB hard disk or pen drive, and
use it to put the OS X installation app onto. That way you can easily and
reliably get yourself out of a bind when you really screw it up, for whatever
reason. You will need nothing more to set up, and restore from iCloud or your
backup disk.

Cheers,
Sabahattin

RE: i think my settings are wrong

2015-11-18 Thread Zoe Fiogkos
I did that as well, as I said in a previous message, I have a feeling some of
my settings must be causing this because I checked in voiceover utility and a
lot of things are checked, when it comes to mouse, keyboard, and cursor. In
one section everything is checked. I’m at a loss, I thought I would give the
mac another go and now it seems like I’m not going to make it. I can’t afford
lessons at this moment. Paid lessons are not out of the question but just not
now. It doesn’t seem like anyone on the list can figure it out either. Sorry
for sounding so down but I’m just very sad that I cannot seem to progress.
Thanks for listening all

Try to turn cursor tracking on by pressing vo+shift+F3.
Control+option+shift+F3. If cursor tracking is on, then let us know, and we'll

Re: where do i find my info on the mac

2015-11-18 Thread Sabahattin Gucukoglu
Fair enough, but make sure you have a copy of what you need at least, when the
time comes.

To find the amount of space required for a backup, you can go to System
Preferences, Time Machine, then press the Options button. In the dialog is
listed, somewhere, the full amount of space required. A bit more than the
typical USB key.

However, a USB key is just fine for copying your essential files. So, whenever
you save something important, copy it to the key. When you’re upgraded you can
just use the key to restore your files, or iCloud Drive.

Cheers,
Sabahattin

Re: pages help please?

2015-11-18 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Zoe,

As you’re a complete beginner on the Mac, Pages is not the most appropriate
word processor for you to be using.
If you open your Applications folder while in the Finder by pressing
Cmd-Shift-a, you should find TextEdit. This is a much simpler program and
should do what you want.
To put TextEdit into your Dock, just open it, then go to the Dock where it will
appear. Get a contextual menu on it in the Dock by pressing VO-Shift-m and
select Keep in Dock.

When you open TextEdit, you’ll be on the text area. Interact with this and the
rest should be simple.

Cheers,

Anne

I do not think this is accessible. Have you tried putting the cursor
where you want the key change then inserting a new key? Otherwise
you'll have to change it yourself by playing in a different key.

Re: Garage Band: how to change key with in the middle of a song or wherever needed

2015-11-18 Thread Scott Berry
Hi Vaughn,

I have one other question for you. Do you know how to move the drummer around?
For example, I have it started where I want it but I want just certain
instruments to play for a little while and then the drummer to pick back up
again? I tried dragging and dropping my drummer track to the appropriate bar
and I also tried copying and pasting but this doesn’t work.

Re: Setting up Apple TV

2015-11-18 Thread Jonathan Mosen
The Apple TV 4th generation is more difficult, but not impossible, to use
without a TV, because it no longer offers a separate audio optical output as
the third generation did.
You'll need HDMI to at least set it up initially. If necessary, you can get
HDMI to analog converters. You can pair a Bluetooth or AirPlay device after
initial setup.
I'm about two thirds of the way through writing my Apple TV 4th gen book, and
hope to have it in the store by Christmas, when I'm sure a lot of people will
be seeing new Apple TVs under their tree.

Perhaps someone has a better answer because what you are doing should
be working for the drummer. Have you tried cutting instead of copying?
Or deleting the bars where you don't want the drummer after copying
and pasting?

i'm trying to install Windows 7 via Boot Camp.
I'm also attempting to use the talking windows installer.
If someone has experience using this installer, I could really use some

I've listened to a podcast on Apple this, but I do not know what I'm missing.
I'm using a MacBook air mid 2013.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Yes, you can connect to your Airport Station if you go under the

Easiest way to get my iTunes library onto a thumb drive

2015-11-18 Thread Mary Otten
I would like to get all of the media that is in my iTunes library on to a 128
GB thumb drive, which I have. I see that there is an export under the library
in the menu. But it looks like that might just be an XML file. At least the
title says that it's an XML file. I want to export the media. Will this do it?I
would like to end up with the directory structure as it is, with the artists as
the folder names. Am I going to just get this file or my going to get all my
media? And if this isn't the way to get the media, then I suppose I would have
to go find the parent directory and copy that out to the drive. Alias on my
desktop which opens this folder where all of the music is stored. I can go in
there in a big table and copy out individual songs or probably even whole
folders. But it doesn't look like I can copy the parent directory that way.
What is the most efficient way to get this done?
Mary

Re: i think my settings are wrong

2015-11-18 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Hello,

It is heard to tell what is going on from just your short descriptions. I
think there are two possibilities.

1. Get one of us on the phone so we can hear what your computer is saying.
2. Upgrade to 10.11 using an erase of the disk first, then it will be like
having a completely new computer.

If you want to contact me off list, I would be glad to work you through
this issue. doing a clean install

A clean install is really not that difficult, after starting the install
process, you go into disk utility and tell it to delete the partition where
the operating system is.

Spotify of Mac

2015-11-18 Thread Janine Smith

Hi.

I am trying to use the Spotify app on my Macbook Air running OSX 10.11.1. I
downloaded the Spotify App and the zip file from Applevis that turns on
accessibility. I managed to log into my account but now Voiceover just
keeps saying empty html content when I try to interact with the Spotify app.
If I press command l it will bring up the search box whereupon I can input
a search but as soon as I press enter I get a number of frames all of which
tell me empty html content when I try to interact with them.

I have tried to access settings, both from the menu on the search page and
by going to preferences in the Spotify menu, but again I get the message
about empty html content when I try to navigate that page.

I have tried both in normal and full screen mode. I also tried deleting
and then re-downloading and installing the voSpotify application but still
get the same result.

What am I doing wrong? Any ideas on how I can get this to work would be
greatly appreciated.

Before anyone suggests Apple Music as an alternative, I thought I would try
Spotify first as it has a free option when my trial period is over.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance for any
assistance you can provide.

Regards Janine

Re: Spotify of Mac

2015-11-18 Thread Jeffrey Shockley

Hi,
That is not the problem here. This VO Spotify App is what makes it
accessible, yes. The problem here is that Spotify uses Chromeium AKA
same as Google Chrome for it's webpage display area, and VoiceOver does
not like Chrome under El Capitan for some reason.

I do, know however, that this method does work, as I used it under Yosemite.
Hope this helps,
Jeffrey

RE: pages help please?

2015-11-18 Thread Zoe Fiogkos
Hi Ann, I plan to eventually get some lessons, but unfortunately that isn't
possible right now. A few questions if you don't mind. Are you the Ann that
does the pages lessons, if yes could you contact me privately and give details
of the cost and outline of what you teach exactly. Secondly I'm sorry if I
sound repetitive but something is very strange, I don't know if you have sight
or anyone who is reading this message has some site. It's very strange and the
body of pages I can see the text and I can select text with the shift arrow up
from the end of the text towards the top but not from the top towards the
bottom. And in the caption field at the bottom of the screen there is an arrow
pointing up. Even if I'm at the beginning of the document the arrow never
points down. What do you think of that?

Cheers,

Anne

Hello,

It is heard to tell what is going on from just your short descriptions. I think
there are two possibilities.

1. Get one of us on the phone so we can hear what your computer is saying.
2. Upgrade to 10.11 using an erase of the disk first, then it will be like
having a completely new computer.

If you want to contact me off list, I would be glad to work you through this
issue. doing a clean install

A clean install is really not that difficult, after starting the install
process, you go into disk utility and tell it to delete the partition where the
operating system is.

Re: Spotify of Mac

2015-11-18 Thread Rachel Feinberg

Hi Janine,

Here is a post I've done on applevis (with accompanying audio demo) on
how to navigate Spotify on the Mac using the keyboard.

It seems the key to navigating the Spotify app is via frames. If you
press command+L to get to the search field, (it's best to navigate the
page with quick nav off), make sure to press command+A to select all and
delete it, just in case there was text in the field you weren't aware
of. Put in your search term and press enter. Now, to get to the search
results, press control+option+command+F. (VO+F). this will move you
forward to the next frame. Interact with the frame, it will say "search
frame" and vo+right arrow to the artists, or albums you wish to see.
there's, at first, an unlabeled link, then the name of the
artist/album/song, then, depending on what you're looking for, the name
of the artist. for example, if you were looking for a song, you'll see
the song title as a link, and then if you vo+right arrow again, you'll
see the name of the artist/band. If you want to play said song, vo+space
on the link, then navigate to the next frame, (VO+Command+F), and it
will get you to the specifics. Interact with this, and navigate to the
"play" button. At this point, you can (if you wish), turn on quick
navigation by pressing left/right arrows at the same time, and press "b"
to get to the "play" button. You can also tab a few times and you will
be presented with a table of songs, either from an album you're
listening to, or various songs with the same title by an artist,
depending on your search. I've created a short audio demo of Spotify
searching, perhaps it will help:

https://audioboom.com/boos/3300081-spotify-accessibility-on-the-mac

Hope this helps.
Rachel.

Re: Easiest way to get my iTunes library onto a thumb drive

2015-11-18 Thread Sabahattin Gucukoglu
You want to take a complete copy of your iTunes library. Quit iTunes, then
copy the folder called iTunes in the Music folder in your home directory under
/Users. Drop that on your drive. That will get you both the media files and
all the iTunes library metadata that goes with them. You can reverse the
process to restore.

Not sure what the story is behind your desktop alias. Is that for use by some
other program, or do you just like easy access to your iTunes folder?
