Re: Strange issue with Microsoft Word on my mac
Hello Krister, I’m not having your problems with the latest version of MS Word on my MacBook Air. Are you interacting far enough with the document? I interact with the document layout area and then with the text and the up and down arrow keys work fine. I do notice that the VoiceOver cursor and the text pointer are not in the same place despite the fact that I have them following each other. The mouse is somewhere else again! I have trouble making sense of the way Word works. The document I’m looking at has 176 pages, but I only seem to see four or five of them at a time, and VO says things like “page 1 of 5” which just doesn’t make sense. When I go to the Status Bar group and interact, I see the correct number of pages.. Hi, this is the strange thing, it worked fine until a couple betas ago. Now if i interact only with the layout area VO can sometimes read one letter of a word and then is silent. No, they don’t although it would seem logical. and that’s because classical Greek has different or rather more numerous marks over the letters which Voiceover doesn’t interpret in speech. I don't think that ancient / biblical Greek is going to work with these voices because the letters with the diacritic marks that are used are not recognised by Voiceover nor by any other voices mentioned above. But do check it out yourself. you can easily add Apple's Greek voices to the selection of voices on the mac, activate the appropriate keyboard and confirm this. Re: Strange issue with Microsoft Word on my mac
Hi There, I hope I'm not hijacking this thread too much. I was a beta tester for Office for the Mac. I don't have Office 365 that is offering the new version. My question is: Does the beta still work or will I need to wait when the Office product is released in the fall to use it again on the Mac? I did open Word, interacted with the document, but no text was inputted there. That's why I'm replying to this thread. Thanks. Re: Strange issue with Microsoft Word on my mac
Hello Eileen, The beta still works but you have to download the updater and update the applications regularly. It seems that every time I open Word, the updater kicks in and downloads a new version. The whole process was explained here a while ago but I don’t seem to have kept the message. Perhaps someone else has kept it. Re: how to copy contacts from one account to another?
Hi, If these contacts are within the Contacts app, but only linked to your gMail account, then you should be able to simply copy and paste into iCloud. If they're only visible through the gMail web interface, then you'll likely need to export them as vCards from the Contacts app of the gMail web interface. You should then be able to import them into the local Contacts app on your Mac. Hope that makes sense. Later... RE: how to copy contacts from one account to another?
Hello Joe, If you Google this, you will find that there are two basic ways to accomplish your goal. The first method is to use your web browser to log into your gMail account and export your Contacts List as a vCard file; then, log into your iCloud account and import that file. As there are hundreds and hundreds of easy to follow step-by-step articles on this, I will not list them here. The second method, which is the one I use, when moving people from an Android device to an iPhone, is to attach the vCard file that was created when exporting from gMail, to an email and send that email to the device to which I want to import the Contacts. In short, if you open a vCard attached file on an iPhone, and presumably in the Mail application on the Mac although I have not personally done so, a dialog box appears asking if you want to add the list of Contacts to your Contacts list. Simply confirm this option and you're done. Re: siri's sense of humor, and ability to..?
Hi Caitlin not Jenner lol! Seriously, this is something I do not understand. why can you not nuance ios voices the way you can mac ones? The ability to adjust tone and pitch is fundamental to using speech. It actually was a deal breaker for my getting an ios device. That handsome Brit was close but to use him regularly in settings I wanted to refine him a bit...and was stunned that this was impossible save for speed. I can only imagine how frustrating this must be for those new to understanding synthesized speech, especially if others around you are telling you its fine but you do not think as much. Any explanation for why apple does not build something so simple into the ios platform? Re: Intro and question
Welcome to the world of the Mac! You get Text Edit built into the Mac; this app lets you write text, and format it with links, lists, fonts, alignment, and so on. You can't do margins--at least I don't think you can--and there is nothing like template support or other advanced features. Fr getting started, though, you can't beat it. Pages doesn't come loaded on your Mac, but it is free in the App Store. It is far more complex and advanced than Text Edit, and you should get a solid grasp of VoiceOver before you tackle it. To get it, simply open the App Store, hit cmd-f, type 'pages', and press enter. Tab a couple times until you hear "Install Pages, free button" and press space. Numbers, by the way, is a spreadsheet program that is also free and available in the App Store. > On Jul 16, 2015, at 8:06 PM, gracewelln...@atlanticbb.net > wrote: > > Hello, > > I recently subscribed to this list because I purchased my first Apple > computer, a Macbook air. > I would like to know if my machine has a word processor, or more than one. It has to do with the amount of processing required for human-sounding speech. This is quite processor intensive, and iOS devices, though powerful, are still pocket devices.
