Strange issue with Microsoft Word on my mac

2015-07-15 Thread Krister Ekstrom
Hi there.
I’ve encountered a very strange thing with Ms Word 2016 on my iMac. When i try
to read a document with more than one page, at least so it seems using only up-
and down arrow keys, nothing is read and it looks as though the cursor is
elsewhere in the application and not on the document. If i route the mouse to
the cursor with vo+command+f5 and then do a mouse click, vo+shift+spacebar, the
cursor goes to the document area where i am but when i try reading using up- or
down arrow only one character of a line is read.
I don’t use quicknav, infact i very rarely do so it can’t be that, but what
obvious thing im i missing?
Anyone else come across this?
/Krister

Re: Mac mail issue under Yosemite

2015-07-15 Thread jeff `greene
Hi, Let's see if I can remember how I fixed this issue... Go into mail
prefs, to accounts, then in the table of accounts select your account
that's giving you trouble. Then select the tab that says mail actions.
Somewhere on that screen there is a check box to keep trashed items on
the server. Uncheck that box and close mail prefs. You will get a
message asking you if you want to save your changes, hit save. That
should do it! I had this problem too, I would delete gmail messages go
to another mailbox like saved mail, and when i went back to my inbox
those deleted messages were back.
Hope this helps! Jeff

Thanx for the tip, finally got it working. Now I just wish we could burn all

We have the service, but just I just used the features through the directTV app

I agree. I do not see what the big deal is. A little tolerance would be

Maybe we should start a apple beta discussion list if there will be issues.

Re: Apple TV Connection Question

2015-07-15 Thread Brian Fischler
Hi Tim,

what is the setup you have going out of the optical? I was under the impression
the Apple TV only had a power cord and cdmi out, so not sure what you guys are
talking about optically? The sound bar I am looking at is the Wilton Sound Bar
with Bluetooth sold on Amazon as it has a ton of input and outputs, and I think
the only thing I would be using would be the volume so once I figure that out
would not need sighted assistance to work it, the amazon ad mentions it works
with gaming stuff but does not mention the Apple TV, here is the link if anyone
wants to take a look at it. Thanks for all the feedback

biblical greek on the mac

2015-07-15 Thread Brian Howerton
Hello all,
I am trying to teach myself new testament greek. I was wondering if anyone has
tested learning a biblical language on the mac with voiceover. Just was
curious to see how that might work with voiceover as far as pronunciations and
things like that. Thanks,
Brian

Re: Apple TV Connection Question

2015-07-15 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

For this Tim, I have a Harman Kardon Receiver with HDMI inputs, and HDMI going
out to the TV. The TV does not need to be on when I am listening to music and
I've even had the TV set to the incorrect input on occasion and the Apple TV
still sends the audio to the receiver. Not sure if having the TV makes a
difference, but I doubt it.

Re: biblical greek on the mac

2015-07-15 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Hi Brian,

I speak modern Greek and there's no problem with that because:
1. AssistiveWare.com has a modern Greek voice Dimitris, which is very good,
2. and Apple provides a modern Greek voice Melina and Nikos. Mac also has a
modern Greek keyboard layout as well as ancient Greek keyboard which you can
add to your keyboards.

You can change both keyboards and voices on the fly.

I don't think that ancient / biblical Greek is going to work with these voices
because the letters with the diacritic marks that are used are not recognised
by Voiceover nor by any other voices mentioned above. But do check it out
yourself. you can easily add Apple's Greek voices to the selection of voices
on the mac, activate the appropriate keyboard and confirm this. I had no
success with it when I got a piece of biblical text from somebody.

I'm sorry not to have better news for you.

Re: biblical greek on the mac

2015-07-15 Thread Brian Howerton
No problem Andrew. That definitely helps though. Right now I am digging in to
a greek text in braille. I am very overwhelmed by the greek braille code. I
wish there was a supplemental greek braille code manual that I could use while
trying to learn Greek. Right now, I am struggling trying to understand how the
greek braille code works.

Re: Amazon Fire TV Accessibility

2015-07-15 Thread christopher hallsworth
Apple TV is a box you connect to your TV via HDMI or stereo system via Optical
out. Chromecast, on the other hand, is a USB stick that I assume works only
with the TV via HDMI.

My friend has worked on some motor accessibility stuff for Fire TV, so
it’s not a far leap to get them to put a screen reader on it.

I suggested they take the screen readers from the Fire Phones and put them

installing sword 2016 on the mac

2015-07-15 Thread William Windels
Hello all,
since 9 juli mosaic 2016 for mac is released. I had the preview version
installed before but I see no option to upgrade to a full version.
If I press the upgrade button, the app is crashing.

Anyway, I have 2 questions:
1. is msoffice 2016 and word on the first place, mainly accessible in the final
release?
2. It seems I can’t install a trial without doing a registrationproces..
So frustrating sometimes that many software companys needs to know personal
information before to download even a test-version.

If the office-suite is mainly accessible, where can I find the
(trial)installation-package?

Kind regards,
William Windels

VM insert key on OSX tutorial

2015-07-15 Thread 'Chris Blouch' via MacVisionaries
Marco Zehe from Mozilla wrote up his solution to getting the caps lock
key to act as both the VO keys on OSX and the Insert key when running
VMWare with Windows and Jaws or NVDA. This seems to come up pretty often
so hopefully folks can keep this link around and just paste it into the
message thread whenever it comes up rather than re-writing instructions
every time. Not sure I would bother with the VO remap part but at least
you'd have one key for both sides.

The AppleTV box has five connectors across the back. Power, HDMI with a
micro-USB just below it, Optical Audio and Ethernet. The optical out is
the little square kind you find on most digital receivers.

When you connect your device, the braille embosser in this case, Vm Fusion will
bring up a dialog, asking what to do with the usb device. To connect to the
mac (host) or the windows (guest) systems. Just press on the windows button,

Re: Apple TV Connection Question

2015-07-15 Thread Tim Emmons
Actually it does if you watch say netflix or anything like that and it doesn’t
see that Tv side of things, it will tell you that your cdmi cable isn’t plugged
in properly or something to that effect. I’ve ran into that a bit when I first
got my bar, so I’m always careful about that. Now, if I’m air playing or
streaming music using iTunes radio or something, it doesn’t seem to bother it
but movies like from Crackle andnetflix will cause it to scream at you. Anyway,
take care guys. Talk to you soon.

Re: Apple TV Connection Question

2015-07-15 Thread Tim Emmons
I have my apple tv plugged into the optical out. I can also use the bluetooth
feature of my sound bar if i so desire with my phone or my iPad. (apple Tv
doesn’t have a bluetooth out like that) but the remote is easily laid out and
easy to navigate. I have the Samsung Airtrack, and it does fairly well for what
I use it for. Hope that helps.

Hi Tim,

what is the setup you have going out of the optical? I was under the
impression the Apple TV only had a power cord and cdmi out, so not sure what
you guys are talking about optically? The sound bar I am looking at is the
Wilton Sound Bar with Bluetooth sold on Amazon as it has a ton of input and
outputs, and I think the only thing I would be using would be the volume so
once I figure that out would not need sighted assistance to work it, the

I don't think that ancient / biblical Greek is going to work with these
voices because the letters with the diacritic marks that are used are not
recognised by Voiceover nor by any other voices mentioned above. But do
check it out yourself. you can easily add Apple's Greek voices to the
selection of voices on the mac, activate the appropriate keyboard and
confirm this. I had no success with it when I got a piece of biblical text
from somebody.

I'm sorry not to have better news for you.

The AppleTV box has five connectors across the back. Power, HDMI with a
micro-USB just below it, Optical Audio and Ethernet. The optical out is
the little square kind you find on most digital receivers.

cannot add some tracks to iCloud library

2015-07-15 Thread Ray Foret Jr
I have a custom album which I compiled consisting of two tracks. I let iTunes
do the convirtion from .wav to .m4a. I have my iTunes set to encode at 256KBPS
stereo .M4a. When ever I select the tracks and then open the short cut menu, I
select Add to iCloud library and it doesn't show the files actually being
added. When I look again at the tracks info, they change from "needing upload"
to "ineligible". Why is this the case? It makes no sense to me since I have
24 of my "Ray's world" podcasts as a custom album and that uploaded to Icloud
just fine. Those podcasts were recordings that I am very certain iTunes cannot
match in their collection. So, can anybody here take a guess at what I might
be doing wrong? It's not for lack of space: as I have 180GB left in my Icloud
space and this material doesn't even begin to come close to that. Any guesses
or tries at figuring this out would be helpful.

Sincerely,
The Constantly Barefooted Ray

Still a happy Mac, Verizon Wireless iPhone 6+ and Apple TV user!

siri's sense of humor, and ability to..?

2015-07-15 Thread Karen Lewellen

Hi folks,
as to the first question, I understand she? had no idea she is a girl,
has an amusing answer to questions like... what's zero divided by zero?"

if noone has tried it, I will not spoil the fun.
I understand too that she will correct anyone seeking physical
information
about Bruce Jenner.

The other half of my question has to do with nuance.
I recently visited an apple store to learn if the ios voices could be
nuanced the way mac voices can. I was dismayed that while you can speed
the voice up and slow it down, you cannot improve the over all
quality..but I did not try Siri at all.

I was working with an ipad, not a phone.
so can she be improved?
I may need to check her out, I tend to prefer a guy's voice talking in my
ear even on my computer lol.
Still it might be the difference between ever using an ios device as is
the case now, and considering an iphone for non phone tasks.

Thanks,
Karen

Hi,

Siri can either be male or female. I have Siri set to the male voice as I find
it to be a better voice, at least to my ears. The quality of Siri's voice is
quite good although you have no ability to mess with its quality anymore than
you can mess with the other VO voices.

I think I'll have a cookie now.

Re: biblical greek on the mac

2015-07-15 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Hi Brian,

On my mac, I use Greek Braille tables with my refreshable Braille display and
the table is in grade 1 Braille so I didn't have to learn much in order to
read. I have very little experience of the Greek grade 2 Braille as i have no
access to their Braille paper literature. On the mac side, you can choose
Greek Braille table in Voiceover utility under the Braille tab. Incidentally,
the Greek table on the mac also works fine for English so I don't have to
switch Braille tables all the time. I just have the table set to Greek and it
works for both English and Greek.

Hope things are going to work out for you.

Best wishes

Andrew

Re: garage band

2015-07-15 Thread 'Gabriele Battaglia' via MacVisionaries

Hi Juan.
Amadeus Pro allows you to edit almost any AudioFileFormat in a quite
accessible way.
Garageband, on the other hand, as far as I know doesn't allow to edit so
easily and I've strong dubts about its accessibility, unfortunately.

Gabriel.
