Re: Thanks for the ToDo app!

2015-06-30 Thread Danny Noonan
Great to here. It's certainly made my life easier and far more productive. I
don't have a watch but for when I do it's great to know apps like due and trip
view work well on it.

Have a great day and a tip if you want to set future date events in due,
customising the quick times in settings helps. I have 1 day instead of 3 hours
and 1 month in place of the 1 day.

You probably encountered a loss-of-focus problem in the installer. Simply do
VO-F1-F1 (that’s F1 twice, quickly) to get the app chooser, and select the
installer and window again. Don’t forget FN while you’re on the laptop
keyboards too.

Subject: update and correction to earlier messages re Workout on Apple Watch

Hi all,

As some of you may recall, I posted earlier that the watch gives you no alert
when you've met your work-out goal. This is incorrect. However, there is a
voiceover bug that incorrectly reports the time you have entered.

If you notice, when you've selected the type of work-out you want and go to set
the time, Voiceover defaults to a time, and you'll hear something like "thirty
seconds." Well, it's actually not 30 seconds, it's 30 minutes. So, when I was
turning the crown until Voiceover spoke the time as 30 minutes, what I was
actually setting my work-out time to was 30 hours. lol, no wonder I didn't get
an alert, I would have had to work out for 15 hours just to get to the halfway
point. So treat seconds as minutes, and then set the time you want, and you
will in fact get an alert at the halfway point, and then again when your
work-out is completed. I'm going to report this to Apple Accessibility, so
hopefully they can get it straightened out.

I hope this is helpful.
Cheers,
Donna

Re: Haptic feedback failing

2015-06-30 Thread Deb Lewis
I have everything set up with the keychain. So it only took about a
half hour and I didn't lose one scrap of data except some books which
I forgot to back up. But they took another ten minutes to get back and
all is really much better. I love my phone and I love my watch with it
but I was beginning to not love the watch so much until I did this. I
fussed about it for a week, so that's why I'm bringing it up. Was
truly worth it.

Download the DMG from the Apple website if you're having issues with the

And, further, the Siri integration with Apple Music is breathtaking!

I'm getting quite confident with using it on I O S, so if anyone needs some

Re: OK, it's official! I'm in blyss heaven! with Apple Music!

2015-06-30 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
Hey Chris. Didn't Apple buy out Beats Music and therefore change the name to
Apple Music? In any event, I'm pretty happy with Apple Music. I actually
listened to Beats 1 practically when it launched. I'm surprised and
disappointed, however, that it doesn't have a decades area in the radio section
so I could listen to music from a particular decade like the 80s. If there is
one though, feel free to point me in the right direction. Thanks.

My thoughts on the Apple Music service from a VoiceOver user's standpoint

2015-06-30 Thread christopher hallsworth
Hi all
Let me share with you my thoughts so far with the Apple Music service from a
VoiceOver user's standpoint.
Let me tell you, Apple Music is, absolutely, sweet, with VoiceOver. Everything
I have done so far works perfectly. Even the connect feature appears to be
working sweet. Darn impressed and it's goodbye from me to Spotify.
Short, but to the point and I hope you feel the same.

Download the DMG from the Apple website if you're having issues with the App

Alternatively, Google around for an installer.

More coolness with the Apple Music service

2015-06-30 Thread christopher hallsworth
Hi all
I have just updated to iOS 8.4 on my iPhone 4s. Launched the Music app, and it
simply logged me into the service; I didn't even need to tell it I'm already a
member. Since I signed up for the family plan, this should also be the case for
the other family members. This is the latest that is blowing me away.

Re: My thoughts on the Apple Music service from a VoiceOver user's standpoint

2015-06-30 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
Hi Chris. Same here. I pretty much got rid of both Spotify and Jango when Apple
Music came out today. I hope though, and this really pissed me off with
Spotify, when you ban a song, it STAYS banned. Meaning with Spotify, I'd ban a
song, and then after a while, I find that it's playing again.

Re: OK, it's official! I'm in blyss heaven! with Apple Music!

2015-06-30 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
OK Shawn, not really, however, here's what you can do which will get you pretty
much what you're wanting.

Invoke Siri, and say something to the effect of: "Play the top songs from
1975." Play songs from 1982." That seems to work for me.

Another thing you can do is in the Music app, double tap the New tab. It's the
second one from the far left, one flick right of the For you tab. At the top
of the screen, you'll now see a button that says all genres. If you double tap
this, you now can pick a specific genre to hear, or, you can also look after
double tapping the genre, and there will be a heading that says top songs. If
you double tap the button in that heading, you'll be taken to a screen with the
current top songs of that genre in Apple Music Radio, not to be confused with
Beats 1. In here, you can play all the songs back to back, or you can pick the
one you want to hear, and go from there.

Finally, yes, to answer your question, Apple did indeed buy out Beats Music,
yes. If you have a Beats Music subscription though, I'd not advise cancelling
it yet. Mainly because the Apple TV doesn't quite yet have the Apple Music
built in to the OS, and probably won't until the Fall from what very very
little I hear. Also sames goes with the Android side of things, so if in
addition to your Apple devices, you, like me, have an Android device as well,
all you now will have at this point is Beats Music. I think eventually around
the Fall, that will probably get phaised out entirely, but it hasn't been so
yet.

Chris.

Thanks.

Hi Chris. Same here. I pretty much got rid of both Spotify and Jango when
Apple Music came out today. I hope though, and this really pissed me off
with Spotify, when you ban a song, it STAYS banned. Meaning with Spotify,
I'd ban a song, and then after a while, I find that it's playing again.

Hi Chris. Same here. I pretty much got rid of both Spotify and Jango when
Apple Music came out today. I hope though, and this really pissed me off
with Spotify, when you ban a song, it STAYS banned. Meaning with Spotify,

Apple music and your iCloud music library

2015-06-30 Thread Joe Quinn
One of the things that Apple music touts is the ability to in addition to
having the huge iTunes music catalog at your disposal, also, apparently being
able to have your entire icloud music library too. I've found a loophole in
this, and wanna know if it's me, or if I'm doing something wrong. I used to
subscribe to itunes match, but let the subspription lapse last fibruary.
Thouugh, when I logged into itunes today, I saw my old itunes match library. I
thought, "cool!" However, when I go to download one of those old tracks, I get
an error 8003 code on the mac, and nothing on the iOS devices. so, if you let
your itunes match lapse, are those old tracks not available any more, in spite
of, what, I think, apple states and the fact that I can still see them, which
is a bit misleading I think. Apple said that itunes match wasn't required, that
you'd essentally get it anyway when you subscribed to apple music. any ideas?
thanks!

Yeah, like I'm even having some ICloud issues with Apple Music playlist
tracks I've added to a playlist syncing from I O S to my ITunes.

It'll all be good, as I've gotten it to work, it's just really unreliable
right now.

You gotta understand, this is a huge! and I mean huge! milestone for Apple.
I wouldn't be shocked at all if their servers are more loaded to max
capassity now than what they normally are with updates. Frankly, if they
weren't so, I'd be very worried.

I'm 100% confident that things will sort themselves out in a few days, if
not sooner.

to say, I was still pretty irked. I apologize. I didn't mean to take it

misinformation about it not being available initially.

Anyway, sorry for snapping. Yeah, it has actually been a somewhat stressful

again didn't mean to come down on ya. Forgive me.

RE: Apple music and your iCloud music library

2015-06-30 Thread george b
Here is what I was told dby a apple tech on the accessibility line today

If you do not have iMatch all your music you have on iTunes goes into the music
cloud as beats apple music. Now when this happens all the music you bought
became non burnable and non copy able for others.

Apple said that itunes match wasn't required, that
you'd essentally get it anyway when you subscribed to apple music. any ideas?

Re: My thoughts on the Apple Music service from a VoiceOver user's standpoint

2015-06-30 Thread Brent Harding
Even if you pay, Pandora has a skip limit. Unlike some services, there is a
daily limit also, so if you play one station and start getting repeats to
skip, and skip some more on another station, I think once you use 6 skips
twice, you're done until that time tomorrow. I think that's part of why
Spotify and Apple Music cost more. Also, I like that I can play whatever I
want with Siri, not just something it thinks is similar that I didn't want
at all.

Speaking of Skipping, no more of the stupid skip hourly limit like Pandora
gives you! I skipped over 12 songs in one hour, just for the bloody hell
of it, to see if it would do it, and it never choked on me with a stupid

Re: Apple music and your iCloud music library

2015-06-30 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland

Oh, ok, I see the confusion, I think.

Basically, what they mean by your ICloud music isn't necessarily what's in
ITunes Match. It may partly be that, but they just mean more, all the music
you ever purchased with your ID. You can see it, and get to it. You
probably couldn't download it, if you don't have ITunes match, but with
Apple Music, if you are subscribed, then you should be able to still play
it.

If you can't, then I'd blame it on server overload. They are absolutely
jammed! with people getting the new I O S, and the new O S X/ITunes.

I'd try in a few days. If it still won't let you download, I'd give them a
call to see what the deal is.

Re: Apple music and your iCloud music library

2015-06-30 Thread Brent Harding
So, if you get Match, it would be DRM-free, as long as you download it
before you cancel your subscription. I thought back when that people
advocated actually uploading the stuff into match, removing it from the
computer after making a backup, and redownloading the higher quality
versions it matched. The beats stuff is probably similar to the old style
iTunes purchases, except you can't burn them.

Here is what I was told dby a apple tech on the accessibility line today

If you do not have iMatch all your music you have on iTunes goes into the
music cloud as beats apple music. Now when this happens all the music you
bought became non burnable and non copy able for others.

One of the things that Apple music touts is the ability to in addition to
having the huge iTunes music catalog at your disposal, also, apparently
being able to have your entire icloud music library too. I've found a
loophole in this, and wanna know if it's me, or if I'm doing something
wrong. I used to subscribe to itunes match, but let the subspription lapse
last fibruary. Thouugh, when I logged into itunes today, I saw my old itunes
match library. I thought, "cool!" However, when I go to download one of
those old tracks, I get an error 8003 code on the mac, and nothing on the
iOS devices. so, if you let your itunes match lapse, are those old tracks
not available any more, in spite of, what, I think, apple states and the
fact that I can still see them, which is a bit misleading I think. Apple
said that itunes match wasn't required, that you'd essentally get it anyway
when you subscribed to apple music. any ideas? thanks!

Re: My thoughts on the Apple Music service from a VoiceOver user's standpoint

2015-06-30 Thread Blee Blat
The only thing I've not been able to get to work is that it doesn't seem to
sync created stations and music listening preferences across devices. I have a
mac and iphone that I've signed into here and since I'm usually having wifi
handy I wouldn't mind paying for this especially if I can figure out how to add
whole albums for streaming to my library. It looks like this could replace
several music apps once I can figure out how to manage playlists and stations
and things across devices. Certainly impressed with sound quality and the fact
that it has found everything I could possibly want to listen to. Now I just
need to figure out how to make custom playlists and stations so I can do weird
things like mix Accept albums with Bach and bagpipe music and have it remember
what I was playing when I switch from one device to another because I bounce
around a lot. But certainly this might save me from having to keep track of
large collection of stuff once I can figure out the complexity! I certainly
don't have enough disk space or time to go and download all the stuff I would
listen to if it was handy to stream so I think this looks very good. Big fat
warning to anyone with a data cap though this will eat it for lunch since
256kbps is what it streams at. I don't know if it has a lower bandwidth option
so keep the wifi handy!

Yup I dipped into the extra battery too. I was pretty sure the service would be
pretty crummy but it's actually really good I just don't yet know how to make
it fit my music listening habits since I'm used to having local copies of
everything because streaming anything I might want hasn't been handy in decent
quality before now.

Re: More coolness with the Apple Music service

2015-06-30 Thread Brent Harding
I thought it was pretty good. I'm not much into the techno stuff, or that
one exclusive song they played twice in a row, but for the hour or so I
listened, it was good. It's definitely a different style with the little
sounders mixed into the songs, but a live station wasn't meant to be
straight music and jingles either. It's definitely something to take a
listen to.

That's nice. You don't need any kind of restore purchases thing. I'm
liking Beats 1 too, if it will consistently locate me properly in the
United States. The "Beats1 isn't available in your country" message I get
sometimes when using it with Siri is annoying. I hope that gets fixed
soon. The state of Wisconsin isn't near any border, so it must be some
kind of intermittent bug, or has to do with wifi calling.

I was playing with it awhile today, and got down to 55 percent. I think they
want you to have a watch or something to use as a Siri remote to be able to
keep the phone on the charger. Even with Spotify, and I usually airplay it

Yup I dipped into the extra battery too. I was pretty sure the service would
be pretty crummy but it's actually really good I just don't yet know how to
make it fit my music listening habits since I'm used to having local copies
of everything because streaming anything I might want hasn't been handy in

Yeah, is it all techno/hip hop/rappy/poppy stuff though? If so, then I
really am not that interested. I'm more an
oldies/country/folk/gospel/bluegrass/children's music as a last resort guyh.

IE: Randy Travis, Vince Gill, Buddy Holly, Beatles, Beach Boys, Peter Paul
and Mary, Iris Dement, Alison Krauss, the Krabb Family, The Booth Brothers,
the Stanley Brothers, Alan Jackson, maybe some more really mellow stuff by
Brooks and Dunn, Patty Loveless, Reba, maybe Bette Middler, Tommy Page,
Roxette, James Taylor, kind a stuff like that. You get the idea. Maybe
John Denver. I'm just not sure how much Beats1 would cator to that type
style. My best friend calls it old fart music! The bad thing's he's my age!
33 years old! So there! Pull my finger! Oh wait... Seriously though, to

The "Beats1 isn't available in your country" message I
get sometimes when using it with Siri is annoying. I hope that gets
fixed soon. The state of Wisconsin isn't near any border, so it must be
some kind of intermittent bug, or has to do with wifi calling.

I was playing with it awhile today, and got down to 55 percent. I think
they want you to have a watch or something to use as a Siri remote to be
able to keep the phone on the charger. Even with Spotify, and I usually
airplay it through my old inactive 4S, the battery is done with from full
in 2 hours or less, but that thing isn't anywhere near new any more.

Re: My thoughts on the Apple Music service from a VoiceOver user's standpoint

2015-06-30 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
I had some issues getting custom made Apple Music tracks added to playlists
to sync from my IPhone across to ITunes on the mac, but that's really the
only quirk I've found. Actually, it started working after a while. I think
it's server load. The one thing though I had to do is, I can't find a way
to manually resync playlists which have songs from Apple Music not in my
local library, nor in the cloud, that I'm only streaming. So, what I had to
do is, after adding them on I O S, as I can't find a way to go to the For
you section on the mac, then add something to a playlist. But on I O S, if
I do it, then the only way I so far have been successful even 3/4 of the
time only, is to command+Q, and quit ITunes, then come back in, and then
it'll update.

I suspect either 1, it's server load, or 2, it would! auto-refresh, but only
automatically after X amount of time. God knows what that amount would be.
I know it can't be changed, as if it could, I would a seen the option by
now, as thorough as I was looking at things, trust me! I'd say logically
though, I'd think maybe once an hour. If you want sooner, you gotta restart
ITunes to force it. Realize what I am saying isn't necessarily fact. It's
only what my observation is so far, so people like Shaf etc. don't come down
my throat. I'm only telling you what I've so far seen. If you think you
know better, then by all means, correct me. Do tell, as I'd be curious.

I have a mac and iphone that I've signed into here and since I'm usually

figure out how to add whole albums for streaming to my library. It looks
like this could replace several music apps once I can figure out how to
manage playlists and stations and things across devices. Certainly
impressed with sound quality and the fact that it has found everything I
could possibly want to listen to. Now I just need to figure out how to
make custom playlists and stations so I can do weird things like mix
Accept albums with Bach and bagpipe music and have it remember what I was
playing when I switch from one device to another because I bounce around
a lot. But certainly this might save me from having to keep track of large
collection of stuff once I can figure out the complexity! I certainly
don't have enough disk space or time to go and download all the stuff I
would listen to if it was handy to stream so I think this looks very good.
Big fat warning to anyone with a data cap though this will eat it for
lunch since 256kbps is what it streams at. I don't know if it has a lower
bandwidth option so keep the wifi handy!

Don't get too excited though. It doesn't yet have Apple Music.
That's
only available as of today on I O S, although, I suspect it will be
really really really really soon when ITunes 12.2 comes out, which
will
have the integration. Oh my God I can't wait!

Re: More coolness with the Apple Music service

2015-06-30 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland

Neither is mine, and yes, I do lock my screen.

If nothing else, turn on your screen curtain, and also set your brightness
on top of that, to 0%.

That should help.

Chris.

Guys,
Are you locking the screen once you're streaming? I do this all the time,
and, on my iPad at least, the battery isn't sucking apart from the usual
"general usage" of the device.

Oh, no no. you're confused. I only know this as Chris and I both

after doing so on that one device, his other devices remembered that he'd
already signed up, therefore they didn't ask him again to sign up. They
just automatically logged him in.

How did you end up joining it? I had to explicitly join to get in,
unless someone else on your plan did it.

Hi all
I have just updated to iOS 8.4 on my iPhone 4s. Launched the Music app,
and it simply logged me into the service; I didn't even need to tell it
I'm already a member. Since I signed up for the family plan, this should
also be the case for the other family members. This is the latest that
is blowing me away.
