Re: new iPhone user

2015-04-19 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
Hi Max. Welcome to the fun world of iOS. For me I use the native Facebook app
for Facebook. Can't tell you about Twitter because I save that for when I'm on
my Mac. As for Sirius XM, I use Radium. People say that the native Sirius XM
app has improved in terms of accessibility, but I like the simplicity of
Radium. If you don't need all the stuff that the native app provides like My
SXM and on demand programming, then Radium should be enough for you. Also for
Trivia Crack, you can purchase an ad free app inside the app. I can't remember
where it was since I bought it already, but it's there.

Re: accessible adobe on the mac

2015-04-19 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hello Andrew
I thought I had answered you yesterday, but it seems that for some stupid
reason the message never got sent. I think I got a phone call in the middle
what I was doing.
If you have version 7.1 of PDF pen pro, when you first open the file you need
to interact with each page as you go. If you interact with each page, and I
have only been able to figure out how to do it one page at a time, you just do
the VO a to tell voiceover to read everything from that starting cursor
position.
You do have to have version 7.1 I think for this to happen.
Sincerely,
Gigi

Excel navigation issues

2015-04-19 Thread Sean Murphy

All,

If you come across bugs, I think it would be excellent to share with everyone
so we can confirm the bugs. If more people report the same bugs to MS, then
they can prioritise the bugs accordingly.

Excel Navigation

Excel does not scroll correctly in normal or full screen mode. If you use the
down arrow or right arrow. The cursor will eventually stop. To fix this issue
you have to page right or page down depending on your direction of navigation.
Page down is when you are moving down by rows. Page right is for moving across
the column. Likewise you have to issue page up and page left if you want to
navigate backwards.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Interact with the spreadsheet sheet.
2. Press the right arrow key. Eventually you will wrap to the 1st cell on the
next row.
3. Press the down arrow key. Keep doing this until you hear the beep. This is
as far as you can go.
4. Press the page down key and the cursor will be on the next cell. You can
press up arrow and it will beep.

Cheers
Sean

Re: accessible adobe on the mac

2015-04-19 Thread Jonathan C. Cohn
Adobe is aware that there are issues right now. Hopefully, the next version
will fix things. remember that Microsoft just went though a similar process. it
is even possible that Adobe is using Microsoft .net framework for Apple
products and the entire problem with VoiceOver lie with something outside their
control.

Maybe a stupid question, but does a web site service like this exist?

2015-04-19 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
Guys,

Even if I have to pay a small fee for this, I'm very much willing to do so
within reason, and am totally 100% prepared to do so.

Here is the very most basic of the situation without going into a lot of
detail. I need to send a letter to someone. The issue is, they do not check
their e-mail hardly at all. This however is a letter that needs to be written.
Again, I would much rather not go into the specifics. I will however at least
give you this much information... no. It's is not legal related in any way,
and there is absolutely nothing legally binding that says I cannot write this
person. It's nothing like that, as much as it's just that they most likely
99.999% chance will not see my e-mail. Trust me. Physically mailing a hard
copy letter would be more reliable. I definitely do have their address. The
question that I have is, I don't have a printer, and even if I did, I don't
have a very reliable way to address the envelope. I'd have to basically have
someone help me do so. The thing is, due to certain circumstances, the people
who would help me address the letter, as well as print it out for me are very
very nosy, and have been known in the past to read my mail, without my prior
concent. Yeah, I know, downright illegal. I'm not even touching that one.
The point is of this message, does anyone know of a web site which would be
accessible with Voiceover that I could use to either A, type my letter directly
into the web site, or B, upload it as a word document, or text document, etc.
then type the address to be sent to, pay a small printing/shipping cost,
securely check out, then have this service basically print and mail the letter
on my behalf. I'd say on average, this letter won't be more than probably 2,
maybe! pushing it, 2 and a half 8 by 11 pages long. We're not talking a huge
huge lengthy letter here.

I don't have very good access to a public library nor post office to ask for
help. I'm kind a in a rural area. Otherwise, I would.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Chris.

No not correct

Go to;

www.microsoftoffice.com

and you find the office preview which is in beta and thqat is becoming
accessible.

You can download and install it and use it for free until the product becomes
full time some time this fall.

365 is a monthly subscription to get license of a product and auto updates for
a fee of 9.95 a month or 99.00 a year.

I love it I have office on my iPhone, Ipad, mac, and windows all for the one

Re: Maybe a stupid question, but does a web site service like this exist?

2015-04-19 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
OK, but after looking at this page you provided, I'm slightly confused. This
looks like I upload my documents, submit them, they print them, then I go pick
them up at my nearest location. That's not quite what I'm attempting to do. I
want to never have to leave my home. I want the whole thing to be done for me.
I type up the letter, submit it, fill out the shipping to address, make my
payment, then have them print it out, and mail it for me without me having to
do anything further.

If that is exactly what this does, then let me know and I'll look into it a bit
more thoroughly.

Sorry for the confusion.

Chris.

Never leave home? Well, if you do not know anyone you can trust to
do this, you have to search out your options. Like, call your local

plenty of such services online but again, it comes down to that nasty

Guys,

Even if I have to pay a small fee for this, I'm very much willing to
do so within reason, and am totally 100% prepared to do so.

Here is the very most basic of the situation without going into a
lot of detail. I need to send a letter to someone. The issue is,
they do not check their e-mail hardly at all. This however is a
letter that needs to be written. Again, I would much rather not go
into the specifics. I will however at least give you this much
information... no. It's is not legal related in any way, and there
is absolutely nothing legally binding that says I cannot write this
person. It's nothing like that, as much as it's just that they most
likely 99.999% chance will not see my e-mail. Trust me. Physically
mailing a hard copy letter would be more reliable. I definitely do
have their address. The question that I have is, I don't have a
printer, and even if I did, I don't have a very reliable way to
address the envelope. I'd have to basically have someone help me do
so. The thing is, due to certain circumstances, the people who
would help me address the letter, as well as print it out for me are
very very nosy, and have been known in the past to read my mail,
without my prior concent. Yeah, I know, downright illegal. I'm not
even touching that one. The point is of this message, does anyone
know of a web site which would be accessible with Voiceover that I
could use to either A, type my letter directly into the web site, or
B, upload it as a word document, or text document, etc. then type
the address to be sent to, pay a small printing/shipping cost,
securely check out, then have this service basically print and mail
the letter on my behalf. I'd say on average, this letter won't be
more than probably 2, maybe! pushing it, 2 and a half 8 by 11 pages
long. We're not talking a huge huge lengthy letter here.

I don't have very good access to a public library nor post office to
ask for help. I'm kind a in a rural area. Otherwise, I would.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Chris.

Best video and audio streaming app

2015-04-19 Thread Joe Quinn
What's the best app for being able to stream your video and music collection to
your iOS device from your mac? I'm thinking about a media center, but it says
my router is incompatible. Does thus just mean I can't stream outside my home?
Are there better apps out there? Vlc's ok but it crashes too often for me.
Thanks for any info you guys can give me.

Chris,
I think what you need is
www.l-mail.com
You type in your letter, including address, and they print and send it in
the country nearest to where the recipient is.

I hope this is what you need.

Guys,

Even if I have to pay a small fee for this, I'm very much willing to do
so within reason, and am totally 100% prepared to do so.

Here is the very most basic of the situation without going into a lot of
detail. I need to send a letter to someone. The issue is, they do not
check their e-mail hardly at all. This however is a letter that needs to
be written. Again, I would much rather not go into the specifics. I
will however at least give you this much information... no. It's is not
legal related in any way, and there is absolutely nothing legally binding
that says I cannot write this person. It's nothing like that, as much as
it's just that they most likely 99.999% chance will not see my e-mail.
Trust me. Physically mailing a hard copy letter would be more reliable.
I definitely do have their address. The question that I have is, I don't
have a printer, and even if I did, I don't have a very reliable way to
address the envelope. I'd have to basically have someone help me do so.
The thing is, due to certain circumstances, the people who would help me
address the letter, as well as print it out for me are very very nosy,
and have been known in the past to read my mail, without my prior
concent. Yeah, I know, downright illegal. I'm not even touching that
one. The point is of this message, does anyone know of a web site which
would be accessible with Voiceover that I could use to either A, type my
letter directly into the web site, or B, upload it as a word document, or
text document, etc. then type the address to be sent to, pay a small
printing/shipping cost, securely check out, then have this service
basically print and mail the letter on my behalf. I'd say on average,
this letter won't be more than probably 2, maybe! pushing it, 2 and a
half 8 by 11 pages long. We're not talking a huge huge lengthy letter
here.

I don't have very good access to a public library nor post office to ask
for help. I'm kind a in a rural area. Otherwise, I would.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Chanelle,

I think that all you have to do is to go to VoiceOver utility and go to braille
and then choose as your Braille table Russian. I've just checked and Russian
braille is certainly one of the options available.

Best wishes

Re: How do I go about installing Microsoft Office on to my Mac?

2015-04-19 Thread Eleanor Roberts
Hi Grant

The issue you report with word on an IOS device is correct, and it would be
great if they could sort that.

Having said that, it's much more accessible than it was. I don't quite know
what's going on with pages on my IOS devices, but I've just tried it for the
first time since the IOS8.3 update and it seems to have gone mad. I was trying
to type a document that I need to send off tomorrow, but every time I tried to
go through it and check/edit/correct it it just wouldn't let me navigate either
by letter or word! It went mad and took me to really random places in the
document, or it took me out of the document completely. Has anyone else
experience this problem?? In desperation I turned to Word, and so far (touch
wood) it's working perfectly! But would be interested to know if anyone else
has encountered this issue when typing/editing in Pages since the update??

Automatically enabling and disabling Quick Nav when apps gain focus

2015-04-19 Thread Edward Green
Hi,

I want to set up my Mac so that the state of the quick nav toggle is changed
automatically when apps gain focus. I want it to be on in Safari, and off in
Mail.

I tried to create an activity associated with the Mail program, in which I
disabled quick nav. However, when Mail gains focus, the status of quick nav
remains unchanged. I tried to create a second one that enabled quick nav and
associated it with Safari thinking both might need to exist, but the state of
the quick nav toggle doesn’t change when I command tab between the two apps.

Is what I want to do possible, and should I be using activities to try and
accomplish it? If so, does anyone have any idea what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks,

Ed

Re: iCloud drive, is it accessable

2015-04-19 Thread Alex Hall
The one thing to remember is that Dropbox has a robust website which, for the
most part, is accessible with a screen reader. The iCloud site doesn't exactly
have a great track record as far as accessibility, so if you do a lot of
web-based management, Dropbox may be a good choice still. Plus, nothing says
you can't use both. Oh, and the dropbox app lets you browse your files and
folders and preview/open documents; there is no such app for iOS, though there
is for the Mac (the integrated iCloud Drive folder described in the below
message).

Chris,
I think what you need is
www.l-mail.com
You type in your letter, including address, and they print and send it in
the country nearest to where the recipient is.
I hope this is what you need.

Importance: High

Guys,

Even if I have to pay a small fee for this, I'm very much willing to do
so within reason, and am totally 100% prepared to do so.

Here is the very most basic of the situation without going into a lot
of detail. I need to send a letter to someone. The issue is, they do not
check their e-mail hardly at all. This however is a letter that needs to be
written. Again, I would much rather not go into the specifics. I will however
at least give you this much information... no. It's is not legal related in
any way, and there is absolutely nothing legally binding that says I cannot
write this person. It's nothing like that, as much as it's just that they most
likely 99.999% chance will not see my e-mail. Trust me. Physically mailing a
hard copy letter would be more reliable. I definitely do have their address.
The question that I have is, I don't have a printer, and even if I did, I don't
have a very reliable way to address the envelope.

I don't have very good access to a public library nor post office to
ask for help. I'm kind a in a rural area. Otherwise, I would.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Chris.

Perhaps I am mistaken, but I thought if you change the voice on your Mac to a
Russian, one, that the braille table would also change. I can't test that,
but I believe that's how it works with iOS. Change to the Russian voiceover,
and get the Russian braille out.

Really frustrated trying to get Netflix audio description to work on either iPhone or Macbook Air with Silver Light

2015-04-19 Thread Christine Grassman
This morning I signed into Netflix on my iPhone and was able to start audio
description after a second go at the language options menu. However, since
then, I cannot get it to work. I have rebooted the phone, closed the app and
gone back in, signed out and signed back in . . . the option simply is not
showing up.
I decided to load Silver Light on my MacBook and it installed and played just
fine. But I could not figure out how to get to the controls, let alone the
language options menu, if this is indeed possible on the MacBook with Silver
Light. My son is really excited about listening to Daredevil with audio
description. Is anyone else having this issue, and can anyone offer a solution
or workaround?
Thanks.
Christine

2015-04-19 Thread Ray Foret Jr
Seems to me I recall somebody else here saying that they had to call Netflix
customer service and customer service found a flag on that person's account
which did not permit them to access audio description. I don't know why that
would be but you might try, as a last resourt, signing out of all devices on
the web site then going back in again.

I have been following this conversation. Is a OS 10.9.5 user with Silver Lite

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart!

2015-04-19 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
Guys,

I really need to extend the most heartfelt statement of gratitude to all of you
who helped me today with my question regarding sending a postal mail from a web
site.

I was able to sign up for L-Mail, and it appears that the job was a success.
From what I can tell, the letter is now in the print queue waiting to be
printed and then mailed off.

Again, I'd rather not go into the specifics, but we'll just say that because of
me not being specific, you all probably will never know the impact you've made
for me. All that we will say is there will come a lot of emotional healing
through this letter I sent. You all might have saved a family relationship.
Let's just leave it at that. So again, with tears in my eyes, not trying to be
over theatrical or dramatic here. I really really mean it! Thank you guys!
You all are the best!

Have a wonderful night. I know I sure will sleep well, now knowing that by me
sending this letter, as hard as it was for me to do both physically, and
mentally, I did the right thing.

OK! Back to mac topics! Again, God bless, and have an excellent night/day,
wherever in the world you may reside.

Chris.

Well, Chris, as I view the situation, that's what we're here for man. IF our
purpose is not to help our fellow Apple users, we serve no purpose. That's how
I see it. You are, of course, most welcome.

Re: Automatically enabling and disabling Quick Nav when apps gain focus

2015-04-19 Thread Jürgen Fleger
Hi Ed,

just tried it on an existing Activity of mine and it worked fine. Did you check
1. Quick Nav on in the settings of this Activity?
2. the checkbox to enable the Quick Nav settings section?
So you need to check two checkboxes then it should work. Sometimes Activities
seem not to work for I don’t know what reason. Restarting VO should help.

All the best

Night Owl

2015-04-19 Thread Jürgen Fleger
Hi,

is Night Owl the only accessible twitter client for the Mac you know of?

My issues with this app:

1. The timeline scrolls always to the top automatically and it seems to be
insignificant which settings I’ve set. I tried different settings but it had no
impact on this behaviour.
2. I’m not able to find a support address except for twitter accounts of the
developers. But I’m not able to send direct messages to people who don’t follow
me and so there’s no way to reach them.

Any ideas?

All the best
Jürgen
