Re: Working with Wordpress

2015-03-20 Thread Daniela Rubio
Hello!
Mac Jornal is a very good solution for what you are looking for. Ir allows you
to post directly to a Wordpress site, and it has all formatting necessary
features. Also, you can insert pictures, etc.
It is easy and you don’ have to deal with the online tools.
Here is the link from Mac Appstore.

Cheers!

First, did you try the window chooser (VO+F2 twice)? Bet you'll find the window

Second, for VPN, I've used Witopia very successfully for a while.

Stacy, didn’t you ask if you could do this in QuickTime Player? Chris answered
your question in the affirmative. Do you not know that QT Player is a built-in
app on the mac? I’m a little confused by your question.
BTW: when in doubt, remember that Google is your friend. It can answer all

Sorry, QT player is the QuickTime player which you can find in the
Applications Folder. You can jump to that folder from the finder by
doing command+shift+A. Then type Q U to jump down the list to that app

hello thanks but I know nothing about vpn so all I would want is to be able to
watch and listen to tv and radio from the uk over here in the us so because I
don’t have a clue I would like something simple to use and not to pricey so

I use Golden Frog. They are expensive, but they’re very fast. They seem to be
affiliated with GigaNews, which goes some way to explaining their coverage and
speed. I also love their online control panels which really give you the edge.
The downside (there’s always a downside) is that their iOS app is absolutely
dreadful. Since I only need PPTP for geoblock avoidance and
anti-mobile-provider-DPI avoidance and since the server names are all very easy
to derive, this is fine with me, because every OS supports PPTP. The basic
account is perfectly adequate for my needs, and when I’ve got a server set up
at home, even that may no longer be necessary.

Hope it helps.

Hi, Just to revisit this topic… I’ve been reading about Cloak VPN. Its $2.99
per month and was written especially for the mac and IOS. It has been written
up as the best of the year by several mac magazines. And apparently after you
download their app you simply hit one button and sign in and tyhat’s it.They
also have a 30-day trial. I’m going to give a shot and I’ll let you knwo how I
make out.

Well, I guess Cloak is out! It was easy to sign up for the free trial and
install the software and from there it went downhill. I launched the app, it
came up and disappeared, and a little banner at the top of my apps list said
Cloak wanted to make changes and type my system password. I typed the first
letter of my password and OSX took me to the app that started with that letter.
I can’t figure out where to type my password, so I guess the search continues.

Re: vpn service

2015-03-20 Thread Sabahattin Gucukoglu
Hi there.

I think you’d better inform yourself how this stuff works. Happily, there just
_happens_ to be a book on the subject, by a person that just _happens_ to be on
this list, and that just _happens_ to be targeted at the blind/VI, from Mosen
Consulting. It is paid, but it’s a great listen. Details here:
http://mosen.org/index.php/audiobook-imagine-theres-no-countries/

As to the legality claim, I think it’s best to take a wild guess, take a risk,
or check with your council. Certainly you are going against the wishes of the
Copyright holder; for the UK, the content is only for consumption by
licence-fee payers. I don’t agree with the author that geoblock avoidance is
that different from piracy, but I also heartily agree that it’s a very good
idea. The Internet is meant to be global, and if you can reach the content, I
think you’re entitled to it. Most VPN services are specifically targeted to
solving your problem; they let you connect to a server in the target country,
and essentially route your traffic by way of that server, hence giving you
access to material that is supposedly restricted to that region.

Have fun!

Cheers,
Sabahattin

okay i use quicktime to record video and audio files. i love it for its
simplicity. do you have any suggestion as to how i might use it to record my
own voice over another audio track? if that is even possible with q t. i've
heard i will have to use something more robust like audacity garage band or
gold wave. thanks, max

It is a bit more cluttered, because you can do more. As for the bio stuff, I

Hi:
I tried that, but the font didn’t keep, neither did the formatting.

 wrote:

OK, so I assume that you are using the visual editor? I think, if I
remember this correctly it seems like option F8? or was it F10, I don't
recall, should navigate you to the toolbar, at which point you can then
navigate like the regular menu bar of an app. I don't normally use the
visual editer, as I normally do the formatting by hand with html markup.
One thing that you may wish to try, and I can't guarantee that it will
work, but it's definitely worth a try is to format the text ahead of time
in what ever text editer you choose to use. Then, once that's done,
select all with command+A, go over into your page/post, go to the content
of the page/post, then hit command+V to paste it in. I'm not sure. To
keep the formatting though, you might have to actually do a paste special,
not just a regular paste.

Sorry that I cannot be of more help, but these are some suggestions I can
think of right off the bat. Try those, and let me know how you make out.
Also, it's somewhat pricy, I think like $30USD or so, but it is so! so!
so! so worth it: have you considered maybe purchasing a license for an
app called Mars Edit? Either that or one called Ecto? Both interface
directly with Wordpress and are both incredible! One's not better than
the other. I just prefer the Mars Edit interface as more of a personal
preference.

Hi guys:
I have WP installed on my web site. When I go to create a page, I’ve
pasted in my text from Word. I cannot figure out how to adjust the font,
create formatting such as headers, insert pictures, or insert links to
that particular page. The tool bar buttons are a bit confusing. Any
sources out there for help?

Incredible? No, but it's adequate. You have to tab through most popup
dialogs, and there are a few odd bugs, but it mostly works well. It's certainly
good enough for me, and it's not worth the $70--or however much Amadeus is--to
switch from free to paid.

Re: Mp3 files and looping.

2015-03-20 Thread 'Chris Blouch' via MacVisionaries
QT can only record one audio track at a time so either you have to use
something that will mix your system audio with the mic under the hood,
such as SoundFlower, so QT will see it as a single audio source or use
some real audio editor which can do things like ducking, where the
original audio track level ducks down whenever you speak. How's that for

problem is that VO doesn’t seem to have the ability to locate the little yellow
dot that it speaks of in the documentation and Help articles found around the
Internet. So far, I haven’t figured out a keyboard shortcut for this action
either. You probably need to speak with someone at Apple Accessibility and ask
for a feature enhancement that allows for this action to have a keyboard
shortcut. As far as I can tell, it can only be done with mouse drags once that
yellow dot has been visually located. The behaviour you’re seeing is normal
behaviour for Auto Fills and such but this pattern recognition is a little
different.

Haven’t quite given up yet, but it’s not looking good.

Hi,

as I found in the help section to fill cells with data automatically the
following steps are necessary:
I write 1 in B2, 3 in B3. I highlight them and choose from the menue the point
to fill the cells downwards automatically. I expected Numbers to continue the
row with 5, 7, 9, etc. But it didn't work. Numbers simply fills all the cells
with the number 1 which was the number in the first cell.

A similar issue occurs with automatic filling dates. If I write May 1st 2015,
highlight the cells below and go to the menue as discribed the cells are filled
with May 2nd 2015, May 3rd 2015 and so forth. But what if I want to fill the
cells with June 1st 2015, July 1st 2015 and so forth? I tried the same method
discribed in the help section, so I simply highlighted the first two cells
containing May 1st 2015 and June 1st 2015 and choose the menue to fill
downwards. Unfortunately it didn't work either. Numbers filled all the
highlighted cells with May 1st 2015, May 2nd 2015 and so forth.

I've read in the help section of something yellow the sighted users have to
hold with the mouse and pull it downwards. But I couldn't detect something like
this yellow thing.

So, to cut a long story short: does anyone of you have an idea how to solve
these challenges above?

Thanks a lot in advance and
all the best
Jürgen

Re: Something that majorly bothers me about Apple

2015-03-20 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Chris,
You probably need to calm down a little and, as others have said, go tharough
the proper channels and work your way up like the rest of the employees. People
who go off on rants may not be considered suitable anyway. Sorry if that seems
harsh but that's how I see it. Having knowledge and a desire to work for
somebody is one thing, but having the maturity is quite another.
You could always start by doing what other blind people have done and get apple
certified. I don't know anything about this, but I know blind people have done
it. It takes hours of study and commitment. If you had that qualification,
maybe Apple would look at you when you approach them through their employment
division or respond to an advert hiring for jobs in your local area.

Cheers
Lisette

Re: Apple Stops Supporting Windows 7 in Boot Camp on New MacBook Pro, MacBook Air Models - Mac Rumors

2015-03-20 Thread Sabahattin Gucukoglu
Yeah, it makes sense. Windows 8 has more out-of-box hardware support and
improved internals including better power management. And you can always
install Classic Shell; one thing that surprised me, actually, was how not fussy
Windows 8 was, in comparison to Windows 7, if not for the Start menu.

So it’s all right by me. I’ll use Windows 8.1.

Re: So Voice Over is on the Apple Watch.

2015-03-20 Thread Jessica Moss
Join the club on the Braille watch thing. I had one a while back that one of
my teachers, I think it was, got me for my birthday, and loved it for a while,
once I started learning how to use a braille clock, but then kept moving the
hands out of place most of the time, and found it hard to only read it with one
hand so gave up on it. Now I'm so out of practice reading the time on a clock
in general, that the last time someone handed me one of those braille clocks, I
could barely do anything with it.

Golden Frog VyprVPN are a bit on the expensive side, yes. You definitely get
what you pay for, though you will have to configure things manually if you want
to avoid the inaccessible iOS app. But it’s really quite easy to do that on
iOS and Mac; both support PPTP and L2TP+IPSec.

Doesn't surprise me if so. This is a known bug when transferring photos

Anyway, I've brought this to Apple's concern trillions! of times, and of

I have just enough vision to tell that when I upload a photo to a WP page,

Any ideas? I also tried this on the Windows Machine with the same results,

Incredible? No, but it's adequate. You have to tab through most popup

Re: Just to get back on topic with things... Audacity

2015-03-20 Thread Alex Hall
No, Audacity isn't in the App Store. Find it on audacity.sourceforge.net.

A podcast would be ideal, but I haven't had the ability to do one. How does one
record with the same app being demonstrated? Once I get Audio Hijack, though,
I'll be able to record a demo of Audacity for real. Hopefully, that'll be by
the end of next month.

Incredible? No, but it's adequate. You have to tab through most popup
dialogs, and there are a few odd bugs, but it mostly works well. It's
certainly good enough for me, and it's not worth the $70--or however much
Amadeus is--to switch from free to paid.

Somewhat advanced question about manually editting PList files and such

2015-03-20 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
OK, I don't know if this could be done via a PList preference file, or
something similar, but is there a way to increase the maximum volume of a
particular voice in Voiceover?

Here are the more specifics. I've been using Alex, but honestly, I prefer
Fred. Some of you all might totally disagree with me on that preference, but
honestly, I couldn't care one lick less if you do! It's what I like, so get
over it! Anyway, the only issue is, I find that even set to max volume in the
Voiceover utility, Fred is a little bit quiet. Yes I know about the Vocalizer
voices that are available. Can't stand 'em! Anyway, I know they're louder.
Again, I say, can't stand 'em! So, my point is, with Fred... is there a PList
file I could manually edit by hand or something similar which would let me
either uncap, or at least! slightly raise the max limit on the volume? It's
not like I'm gonna blow my speaker. I don't need it going up louder by much.
Only by just a couple of notches. Just enough to bring him about to the same
max volume as Alex.

Chris.

Chris.

Re: audacity help please

2015-03-20 Thread Alex Hall
Video isn't going to happen, Audacity is audio only. You could use iMovie or
another app for adding the finished audio track to a video project.

To do what you're wanting, just open Audacity; it will have a new project open
automatically. Hit cmd-comma, choose the Devices item from the table, and
interact with the scroll area, then review the items to be sure your audio
input is set how you want. Stop interacting twice, find the OK button, and
press it.

Now, use R to record. Space will stop recording, and P will pause or resume
recording without stopping completely. Once you have the instrumental track,
and have pressed space to stop it, repeat the process for vocals, and any other
layers you want.

Use up and down arrows to move through your different tracks. Vo-shift-m will
open a context menu, from where you can rename, move, and otherwise adjust each
track.

Re: audacity help please

2015-03-20 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
OK, but then how do you add a compressor to the vocal track? How do you add
reverb? Can I route my reverb through a send, then route it back into an
auxiliary track? Can I add E Q, and actually specify a 12DB oct? Can I roll
off say, in the vocal track, everything below 80HZ, then notch say around the
120HZ to 140HZ range up by say, 1.5DBFS? Can I read my peek input meters to be
sure that no clipping occurs, and that I don't peek above say minus 10DB?
Getting back to the compressor, will it let me dial in attack, release,
threshold, and input as well as output take up gain parameters? When all is
recorded, can I then add a master track where I can do the final mix masterring?

These are the things I want/need to be able to do with Audasity. If not, then
ehh... I'll just stick with ProTools as every! single! one of the things I just
mentioned above are 100 and 50 percent times accessible with Voiceover.

Chris.
