Re: item chooser

2015-02-19 Thread David Griffith

The behaviour of item chooser has changed in Yosemite.

What used to happen is that there would be a delay, sometimes quite a
long delay and then item chooser in its entirety would come up.

Now, on my system at least, item chooser will appear much sooner but not
with the full list of items. Item chooser will normally announce the
number of items initially loaded. What I think is happening is that the
longer you wait the more that items are loaded into the chooser.

So if you bring up item chooser in Safari not all the page elements will
be immediately available. If you continue to press the end button or
equivalent on a laptop keyboard you will hear that the last item in the
list keeps changing as the list is expanded to include all the elements
of a page.

Personally I have grown to like this change as it means that item
chooser comes up generally much faster than before. However if you are
looking for an element further down the page you may have to wait before
the item you are looking for will be added to and available in the list.

If you are used to hearing item chooser and believe that an item is
immediately available this is confusing. However eventually everything
as before should be added to the chooser.

automatic downloads of purchased material on iTunes for windows

2015-02-19 Thread Faisal ali
Hi everyone,
I bought quite a few songs last night on iTunes on my phone. On my mac, the
songs I purchased downloaded automatically with out any issues. However on
windows, they are not downloading. When I try going to check for available
downloads, it says there are no more available downloads when there are clearly
songs missing that it hasn’t downloaded. Has anyone else seen this behaviour?
If so, is there a work around? I tried downloading material from the purchased
link in the iTunes store on windows, but that page is very poorly laid out in
my opinion and I cannot make heads or tails of it. I just want my purchased
music to automatically download like they do on my mac.

Re: automatic downloads of purchased material on iTunes for windows

2015-02-19 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

No real experience with the Windows version of iTunes, but try the following.
Go into iTunes Preferences, to the Store tab. Confirm that you have it set to
automatically download the specific media you wish to be automatically
downloaded. To download other items that have not already been downloaded,
check the box to Show iTunes in the Cloud Purchases from the same pane. After
closing the Preferences, the list of media should include those items that are
still in the Cloud and there should now be a Download button beside the title.
Pre that Download button so that the item will become locally available.

Do you know how I can get my purchased Tones to download in iTunes on the Mac?
There isn't an option to check them in Store preferences, and none of mine show

On some pages the item chooser works fine but on most it is a very long delay

Would this make it appear more quickly?

Question about NFS and screen

2015-02-19 Thread Jenine Stanley
Quick question about using NFS on an iPhone 6 or 6 Plus.

Does the screen need to be visible? If you have screen curtain on all the time,
do you need to turn that off and hold up your phone to something, screen facing
that device, to use NFS technology?

I assume you mean NFC. If so, no, the screen curtain shouldn't matter. I'm not
speaking from experience, but there's no technical reason to imagine the screen
matters. NFC is just a short-range radio transmition, so it should work either
way.

The range is very short, as in a few inches. Thus, while the status of the
screen being on or off shouldn't matter, the facing direction may. Again, I've
had zero experience here, so I'm just going off documentation and what I know.

RE: Question about NFS and screen

2015-02-19 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Jenine,

Please keep in mind that in order to use Apple Pay, via the NFC protocol, you
must use the device's Touch ID sensor as you hold/wave/pass the device
over/near the vendor's payment/transaction terminal.

One nice thing I've noticed while doing this is that it is not necessary to
first have the Passbook app running in the background in order to successfully
complete a transaction.

Oh, it is also not necessary to first unlock the screen in order to complete a
transaction.

Simply put, Apple Pay facilitates the smoothest brick & mortar purchasing
experience I've ever had the pleasure of conducting.

Several of my friends, sighted and non-sighted alike, go out of their way to
patronize vendors who accept Apple Pay via NFC.

Mark

Yes you can send a DM from twitterific on the iPhone. DM are a standard twitter
function that’s supported on all the clients I’ve every used. Haven’t used that
client for a while on the iPhone though.

Re: Numbers

2015-02-19 Thread Garth Humphreys
Just started playing with numbers on the mac for the first time, I’m an excel
user at work.
1. Can you define a range with a name so you can just reference the range with
that name?
2 What’s the syntax for referencing a table or range on a different sheet and
or file? e.g., I’m trying to do a Vlookup where the table is on a different
sheet, what’s the best way?

That’ll do for a start, thanks for any assistance.

Ok, that sounds intresting.
You can try to press the up and down arrows at the same time on the menu extra.

Re: Problems with Voice Dream Reader on an iPhone 6

2015-02-19 Thread Anders Holmberg
Hi!
I really don’t see the need of yet another app specially developped for blind
people.
Of course there sometimes is a need for it for example the voice dream reader
and the knfb reader apps.
But as pages works just like a charm on both the mac and ios devices i don’t
really see no need for a special writing app for blind people.
But thats my personal opinion and maybe there are good arguments for it.
And if someone buys it thats fine for me.
Though i wouldn’t.

Re: word count

2015-02-19 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello,

In Pages, show or hide word count is in the View menu. The count appears to the
left of the Formatter. It’s a menu button and the menu offers several choices
such as character or paragraphs.

In TextEdit, you need a script to do this.

Cheers,

Anne

Safari weirdness when clicking on multiple links from one email message

2015-02-19 Thread Donna Goodin
Hi all,

I have noticed that lately if I have an email message from which I want to view
multiple links, even though I click on different links, Safari will always open
to a certain one. So let's say a message has five different links, and I want
to look at each linked page. I click on the first one and all is fine. But
when I close that page, go back to the message, and click on the second link,
I'm taken back to the page of the first link. does anyone know what's up with
this? It's very annoying.
Thanks,
Donna

bt keyboards and keys being heald down

2015-02-19 Thread Juan Hernandez
Hi All,

I am running latest iOS 8.1.3 on my iPad air 2.

I have seen sometimes, that when getting into an edit field, where I can
type, that voice over or the iPad will simulate a key press. I t will act
as if someone is holding down one of the letters on the Bluetooth keyboard.
I have to kill the app, and voice over sometimes for it to stop. I can't
seem to find a trend of how to reproduce this error. I have had this occur
on my apple bt keyboard, an older zagkeys profolio keyboard case, and
latest, on my new clam case pro.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Best,

Juan

I'm using version 6.1.1 and trying to figure this part out of a swift code book

Re: xcoders please help

2015-02-19 Thread Tyler Thompson
I’d strongly recommend starting out by looking at the apple docs:
https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentation/UserExperience/Conceptual/AutolayoutPG/WorkingwithConstraints/WorkingwithConstraints.html

That being said I’m not a fan of the new auto-layout system. I usually uncheck
the “use auto layout” box and either code my GUI elements to act the way I want
or use the old “autoresizing” method.

Re: Problems with Voice Dream Reader on an iPhone 6

2015-02-19 Thread Christina C.
have you listened to a podcast on Dream Writer or read about the features that
are specific to voiceover users? These features seem to make a lot of sense to
me. I really want to purchase voice dream writer due to the features offered in
it especially when trying to edit documents on an iDevice and fighting to get
the curser in the proper spot and copying and pasting in the exact spots. I
find this to be very cumbersome and therefore avoid editing documents on my
iDevices. However, I do want to try it with voice Dream Writer and plan to
purchase it.

Re: Problems with Voice Dream Reader on an iPhone 6

2015-02-19 Thread Christina C.
Voice Dream Reader is not used only by the blind community and not everyone in
the blind community uses applevis or viPhone. When I love an app I don’t mind
at all when a developer mentions a new app in the update notes, especially if
it is an app I love and find very useful. I actually quite appreciate learning
that their newest app is now available in the app store. Even my sighted family
members are happy when they learn their favorite app developer has a new app
out. I do not regularly visit a developer’s website or app pages in the app
store to see if they have made anything new. I prefer a small blurb in the
update notes instead of being bombarded in my inbox or with constant ads within
the app. I also do not feel like the developer was taking a cheap shot and
putting out a fake update just to advertise voice Dream Writer. he had
negotiated with the TTS companies so that one would not have to double purchase
voices for both voice Dream Reader and Voice Dream Writer. He wanted customers
to be able to carry those in app purchases over to Voice Dream Writer. In my
opinion, I thought that was very considerate of him. The update to voice Dream
Reader was necessary to make that happen, it wasn’t just a cheap way to
advertise his new app.

item chooser

2015-02-19 Thread Jean
Hello All:
I have just up-graded to Yosemite after waiting for things to settle down.
Things seem ok on the whole so far except for the item chooser in Safari. Are
there any strategies for beating it into submission?

Re: Fantastical

2015-02-19 Thread Christina
Unless things have changed, you should be able to get to fantastical from the
application chooser. Do you know what that is? I'm not at my computer right
now, I think it is VO plus F1 F1. Depending on your settings, you may also need
to hold down the FN key. That is how I used to get to it once fantastical was
hiding in the background.

I haven’t used Fantastical in a very long time and purchased it a couple
of years ago. I used to get to Fantastical via launch pad from the doc.
Also, in settings there is a option to set up a hot key to open
fantastical. One more thing is that if you lose focus on the app, you can
find it via the application chooser by using vo keys plus F1 or vo plus FN
 plus f1 twice.
