Re: insert multiple files in one document

2015-01-18 Thread William Windels
Hello David and others,

I have tried to insert multiple txt-files in one new pages-document with
pages09 and this I could do without any problem.

But also here: the doc-files where dimmed.

My conclusion at this point is that I can’t insert multiple doc-files in one
document in one step on the mac.

If this is really true, this is simply a very stupid and unacceptable missing
feature on the mac for voiceover users…

The last weeks, I am more and more disappointed about basic operations that
needs always a workaround or are simply not possible.
Ok, microsoft should make a accessible office-product for us but , Apple isn’t
always making products that give possibilities for all daily needs.
ms-office documents are much more available on the internet and on workplaces
than Apple-formats.

Thx to read this.

Kind regards,
William Windels

Windows 7 CTRL-right and left arrow Function Problem

2015-01-18 Thread Emilio Hernandez
Hello everyone,

I am using VMWare Fusion 7 running Windows 7.
While using JAWS 14 I am experiencing a CTRL-right and left arrow function
problem.
Basically, when trying to use this function, it does not seem to work with
JAWS. All other subsequent arrow functions work fine.
Has anyone experienced this same issue? I primarily encounter this when trying
to navigate through text within Microsoft Word.
It is a cumbersome problem because it makes navigating text very difficult.
Thus, does anyone have a solution that can remedy my issue?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

This problem has been there for more than a few versions of Jaws. When running

Re: Windows 7 CTRL-right and left arrow Function Problem

2015-01-18 Thread David Griffith
The workaround if you are using an Apple extended keyboard is to use the
NumPad cursor keys. So using Jaws in a Fusion window pressing control
and numpad 6 will work as if it was control right arrow. Similarly
control 4 will work the same as control left arrow.

The other work around on all keyboards is to press the shift key in
conjunction with the control and arrow keys. Jaws should read the words
as normal. The This temporarily highlights all the text on the words you
are reading but a press of a cursor key removes this and you can read at
least a word at a time.

Running Loops in Live Performance off of an iPad or Macbook

Re: chrome and yosemite

2015-01-18 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Hello,

I have been reporting problems with google chrome to the list. Since then,
quite by chance, I switched the navigation method from dOM to group and that
has improved how Google chrome works with Yosemite. So in brief, in my case, I
found Google Chrome rather useless with Yosemite when using dOM method for
navigation. But with group navigation, it is usable again. I don't like group
navigation since you have to interact so much more often with various groups
and sometimes I am not clear when to interact and when not to interact. I
guess I'm rather inexperienced in group navigation mode because I've never used
much.

Maybe others on the list can comment on their experience with Google Chrome.

Drum beats plus does the percussion thing on the iPad, though you only seem
to be able to stop and start it, and select a beat pattern of course.

Good to practice to, not sure how you could improve on it on stage though.

Re: VoiceOver voice hotkeys not working

2015-01-18 Thread Phil Halton
when using the VO CMD arrow keys, I hear things like “default voice”, “default
rate”, “default pitch”, etc. I don’t ever remember hearing the word “default”
when using these keys in Mavericks. Anyway, when I then arrow down or up, the
rate changes, but when I release the VO cmd keys and resume reading, the rate
stays at the original rate.
I’m going to look into the voice over utility more closely and see what I can
figure out.
It’s got something to do with this “default” business I think.

My experience is that with Voiceover you can now only read elements such
as Headings etc but actual page text.

This missing text that Voiceover cannot read becomes visible when you
turn Chrome Vox on, but this is a fairly clunky experience when
compared to the features of Voiceover I think but this may be my skills

Problem with Speech category of VoiceOver Utility.

2015-01-18 Thread Phil Halton
In the voices pane of the Speech window of Voice Over Utility, there are
several categories of speech that can be tailored with different voices, speech
rates, pitch etc. The various categories are: Default, Context, Status, Type,
Attributes, and finally, Voice over menu.
The VO command arrow hotkeys for changing rate, pitch, voice, volume etc now
only affect the “default” voice category.
I know this because when I press those hotkeys, I hear “default Voice”,
“default rate” etc, and that tells me only the default category is being
changed. Default handles things like header row labels in Mail’s message table
and so forth, Whereas the Content category handles actual data. For example, in
textedit, the actual text of a file is considered “content” and the VoiceOver
settings for content affect how text is read. But, the speaking of menus and
toolbar items are controlled by the Default category of voice options.
So, if you use the VO command arrow keys to change speech rate, only the menus
and toolblbar items will speak at the slower rate, and the actual text, or
content, will continue along at its original rate.
The only way to change the rate of “content” is to go into VO Utility and
change the content rate. The VO command hotkeys won’t change that category of
voice options, as they now only affect “default” category.
Try checking the box for “additional voice Options” after the default options
and you’ll see all the other categories of speakable items and their voice
settings.
They’re mostly all set to use the same settings as the default category, but
the VO command hotkeys won’t affect them.
I don’t ever remember seeing the “category” field in this window under
mavericks.
Hope I’ve made the problem clear.
Is anyone else encountering this, and how have you gotten around it?
How do you change the rate of speech when reading a textedit file, or any
content for that matter?

Re: VoiceOver voice hotkeys not working

2015-01-18 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi Phil,
It said default voice in Mavericks too, I'm sure it did.
If you are not using the default voice settings for your VO then changing the
default rate won't change your voice. I use the default voice for everything
pretty much so changing the rate does change my overall voice speed. But you
can use different voices within VO which are not default.
Hope that makes sense. good luck in your investigations in VO utility.

Re: Running Loops in Live Performance off of an iPad or Macbook

2015-01-18 Thread Kevin Shaw
I need to adjust BPM and possibly the construction of the loops themselves.
Typically, I’ll use a loops as a bed while I solo or add flare on drums overtop.

I meant to say Main Stage in my prior message. If anyone has used this with
Voiceover, curious to know your experiences.

Re: Problem with Speech category of VoiceOver Utility.

2015-01-18 Thread Phil Halton
I have an update on this problem. I don’t know what I did, but now the speech
attribute hotkeys (VO command arrows) are working normally.
Now when I VO command arrow right and left I only hear the attribute name and
not the category as well. for example voice, rate, pitch, volume etc, and the
changes are applied globally to all categoriees. Before, when I was hearing
“default voice, default rate” etc, the changes would only be applied to that
category.
It bugs me that I don’t know how I corrected this.
I went into commands help (VO +HH and looked around a bit, then went into
keyboard help and pressed those hotkeys , and then things started working
normally.

Hi John,
Yes, but that checkbox only reveals the additional categories of voice
settings. Checking it does not alter the workings of the speech attribute
hotkeys (VO CMD arrow keys).

Good thought though.

Re: Any disadvantages with file volt?

2015-01-18 Thread Joseph
Hello,
FileVault locks your Hard Drive. When you set it up, you need to decide if you
want to use your iCloud info to unlock it, or use the automatically generated
recovery key. This key is necessary if you ever need to unlock your drive and
you’ve forgotten your credentials for opening the drive. You can also choose to
let your Apple ID provide you with the unlock code. If you do this, you need to
answer several questions that are stored within Apple.
Remember that if you do choose to use FileVault and you have misplaced or
forgotten any info for unlocking the drive, if you didn’t use either your
iCloud info or your apple id you will not be able to get back into the drive.
I suppose that if you have any doubts, you probably shouldn’t use FileVault.
JMO.

Why would one want to lock the drive? I mean, why does one need to do that? Is
it so that if someone tries to take your Mac for instance they can't access the

Could I unlock it with a trusted key? I have one of those, as I recently did
this when I have verified my Apple ID.

I tried and tried to turn over a new leaf.
I got crumpled wads of tear-stained paper
thrown in the trash!
Then God gave me a new heart and life:
His joy for my despairing tears!
And now, every day:
"This I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the Lord
never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness."

can you edit your quick mix in Hermes? I’m coming from Hope for Pandora in

Re: Keeping a journal, both on Mac and iPhone?

2015-01-18 Thread Chantelle Griffiths
Hi Everyone,

I only just saw this thread, so hopefully I don’t repeat too much of what’s
already been said.

Mac Journal has been a wonderful app for me. I have been using it for the past
four years with no issues. The iOS app used to be somewhat inaccessible, but I
tried it again over the weekend and it worked well for me. I performed a sync
with my mac and it went without a hitch. The first time you sync, you need to
enter a passcode which appears on the phone and is accessible with VoiceOver.
Enter this into the dialogue box that appears on the mac and everything will
sync automatically.

The iOS app supports multiple journals and, so far, has been very easy for me
to edit in with VoiceOver. I can highly recommend both apps.

Cheers,
Chantelle

Re: Any disadvantages with file volt?

2015-01-18 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hello there
I was told that FileVault is for people that need super security. If that's
what you need, then great. However, it got me into trouble because that's not
what I need.this happened when I let my power go down to four, and FileVault
wanted my password and I didn't know what was going on. I thought I was never
going to get back into my computer. I was told that under certain conditions it
can make your files in accessible with if you have FileVault.

Re: Running Loops in Live Performance off of an iPad or Macbook

2015-01-18 Thread CJ Daniel
Kevin,

Don’t know about Ableton Live, but…unfortunately…Main Stage is inaccessible,
for the most part. I know cause I purchased it to access it’s loops & sound
fonts in Garage Band. I’m not sure how you could use GB in a live environment.
Have you considered a dedicated looper like Digitech’s Jam Man? You can add
storage with smart cards. You could add your backing tracks on your computer,
order them as a play list on the card, & move through the list with a touch of
your foot. It’s typically a guitarist’s tool.

Hope this helps,

CJ

Re: Any disadvantages with file volt?

2015-01-18 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

The reason that certain Bluetooth keyboards probably won’t work is that the
first Login screen that appears is not the real Login screen. When File Vault
is enabled, you are actually logging in via firmware well before your HD or SSD
is engaged. At this level, the software for non-Apple keyboards has not been
loaded into the system, thus, not usable. So, as Cheryl mentioned, if you use
a third party Bluetooth keyboard, you’ll need either a USB or Apple Bluetooth
keyboard available at time of login.

Later...

 Hello,
FileVault locks your Hard Drive. When you set it up, you need to decide if
you want to use your iCloud info to unlock it, or use the automatically
generated recovery key. This key is necessary if you ever need to unlock
your drive and you’ve forgotten your credentials for opening the drive.
You can also choose to let your Apple ID provide you with the unlock code.
If you do this, you need to answer several questions that are stored
 within Apple.
Remember that if you do choose to use FileVault and you have misplaced or
forgotten any info for unlocking the drive, if you didn’t use either your
iCloud info or your apple id you will not be able to get back into the
 drive.
I suppose that if you have any doubts, you probably shouldn’t use
 FileVault.

Re: Any disadvantages with file volt?

2015-01-18 Thread Emilio
Hello,

I have attempted to use File Vault in the past, but in one case I had a
unique situation that proved highly problematic.
I essentially was unencrypting my HD because I needed to reformat my
machine, but File Vault failed in the midsts of unencryption.
This locked my HD and prevented me from being able to unlock the partition,
so it could be erased.
During the Mountain Lion days I could go into the terminal access the UUID,
and type an erase commend with the UUID that would allow me to erase my HD,
but since that OS (correct me if I am wrong), but this is no longer
possible.
Thus, I would just exercise caution when using file vault, and know that
this is one case where file vault failed.

Hope this has been helpful

Re: Windows 7 CTRL-right and left arrow Function Problem

2015-01-18 Thread Emilio
Hello,

I am aware of these "alternatives" to "reading" the text, but in my case I
have observed that when adding the "shitft" key, the text is selected, as
it should be, since this is a jaws function that works well.
Furthermore, when using the mouse keys on the numpad, I am not able to
select words, which is what I am trying to accomplish. I have to go
character-bycharacter, which really stinks.
I know under XP this is not a problem,a nd gien my limited reason for
needing Windows, it might be worth the risk of using that since all I do is
format documents anyway.

Thanks

Re: Windows 7 CTRL-right and left arrow Function Problem

2015-01-18 Thread David Griffith
I am slightly confused by what you are describing. For me selecting words is
not a problem as control shift and left or right arrow keys work as normal.
From the first part of your message it sounds like this might also be working
for you?

If I use control plus num pad 4 or 6 I can read a word at a time which works
around the control arrow keys lack of functionality. . This was annoying until
I got used to it, now it seems normal and not really a problem. However I never
use the numpad for selecting text as the existing control shift arrow keys are
working fine anyway.

I am probably not understanding what you are describing.

go to the garage band then interact with the table then go to the third, then
you can buy the loops and other drum kits.
