Re: Dropbox in Yosemite

2014-11-06 Thread Jeffrey Shockley
Hello,
I am not sure if this is just me, or just on my Mac here, but when I go to
“Menu Extras” and to the “Dropbox 2.10.41” icon, (Think I got the version
number right, anyways, it’s the latest one,) that I do not have to use the
mouse to activate it to get the window that comes up with titles of files and
the “Settings” button at the very bottom to come up. So, I can just VO Space on
that icon, just like any other “Menu Extra,” and it just comes up. That should
eliminate some of the steps needed to access Dropbox on the Mac.
Also, using something like App Cleaner to completely uninstall Dropbox and
reinstalling it may also help.
Hope this helps,
Jeffrey

Recording FaceTime with Audio Hijack

2014-11-06 Thread Brandon A. Olivares
Hello,

I’m trying to record a conversation in FaceTime. I know it is possible, as
Rogue Amiba said they added the feature.

However for some reason when I do this, it also captures the system sound
output. So, you can hear Voiceover in the recording. Obviously this is quite
undesirable. I just want the FaceTime output, not Voiceover.

I’m using an external microphone, so it shouldn’t be picking up voiceover in my
headphones. The only thing I can think of is perhaps Audio Hijack is picking up
input from both the external mic, and my headphone mic, but that doesn’t make
sense.

In the advanced dialog, I have selected to capture audio inputs, as otherwise
it won’t capture the external microphone.

Any idea why this might be happening? It’s rather urgent I get this figured out.

Thanks,
Brandon

Same thing happens to me. When you record Facetime, does the actual person's
voice kind of sound like it's recording double? That's what it does for me.
I'm blasted if I can figure it out either.

Red Laser is the best I've found, and it's free. Digit Eyes can do the same

Laser, be sure to tap the "light" button so the light on your device is on
(assuming there is a light) and start scanning.

freeze the screen when I look for something further back in the

So far, my impression of VO in the Terminal is that it will work, if you

Installing Colloquy [Was: very very new mac user]

2014-11-06 Thread Janina Sajka
Argh.

So, I downloaded the .zip file from colloquy.info, but there's no
readme, or any other kind of installation instruction. I'm also not
finding any installation instruction on their page.

Looking at the file structure of the exploded .zip, I see the top level
directory is colloquy.app, inside of which is a directory called
Contents, and inside that a few more. These look very similar to what I
see under /Library/"Application Support"/

Do I simply copy this tree to that folder in order to install Colloquy?
Do I leave the .app as part of the directory name, or not? i.e. is it:

/Library/Application Support/colloquy.appor
/Library/Application Support/colloquy

Does it matter?

I know I've done this once or twice before, but don't recall the
specifics, so appreciate any guidance.

Re: Burned by Yosemite

2014-11-06 Thread Alex Hall
The app doesn't need to be installed, in the usual sense. Copy it to your
Applications folder (cmd-shift-a), but that's more of a housekeeping thing than
a requirement. Just launch the app to use it, like any other app on the Mac.

Apple Scripts

2014-11-06 Thread Jürgen Fleger
Hi Folks,

I wonder wether it was very complicated to create 2 scripts for the following
tasks:

1. Route the mouse cursor to VO and perform a click.

2. Play a determined sound and restart or shut down the Mac. This might be for
2 scripts.

If it was not very complicated would there possibly someone in this list who
helped me to accomplish this? Or could someone even create these two or three
scripts and offer them for public usage for free?

Thanks and
all the best
Jürgen

Re: Apple Scripts

2014-11-06 Thread Alex Hall
I don't know about the second one, but I recently made a script similar to the
first one. I use key commands, since the scripting dictionary for VoiceOver
doesn't allow the mouse cursor to be moved. Since you can't change VO's default
commands, though, this should still work.

tell application "System Events"
key code 96 using {control down, option down, command down}
key code 49 using {control down, option down, command down, shift down}
end tell

Hi Sarah,
Yes I do, it's calledIpfob. And it is reasonably accessible, there are a few
unlabeled buttons, but you can figure that out pretty well. I hope this helps,
let me know if I can give you any further information.

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for your excellent description. There is no drop box icon in my menu
extras, and yes I am using VO arrow keys. There is a drop box folder on my desk

Thanks though.

Re: Dropbox in Yosemite

2014-11-06 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Dear Lisette,

If you can locate dropbox folder in your home folder, call up its contextual
menu with vo+shift+m. One of the options in the menu is to “view in
dropbox.com”. When activated, it should take you straight into your account on
the dropbox page. I’ve tested it and it took me into my account. There, if
you look around under your personal / account options, there’s an “install”
link. You may have to reinstall it.

With all best wishes

2014-11-06 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi Andrew,
Well it just shows you should always go for the tried and true fixes first. I
just did a restart and now everything is syncing again. Thanks for the tip
though about going into the dropbox account via the contextual menu. I'll
remember that for next time.
When in doubt, do a re-start.

Cheers

Re: Burned by Yosemite

2014-11-06 Thread 'Chris Blouch' via MacVisionaries
Sounds like Janina is poking at things through the terminal. Not that
there is anything wrong with that but from the GUI the .app directory
appears as one single file even though it has lots of subdirectories
under the hood. So the easiest thing is to do it from the GUI. Move the
package from wherever you unzipped it and put it in your Applications
folder. This is one case where it really is easier to do it outside the
terminal :)

see under /Library/"Application Support"/

Do I simply copy this tree to that folder in order to install Colloquy?
Do I leave the .app as part of the directory name, or not? i.e. is it:

/Library/Application Support/colloquy.appor
/Library/Application Support/colloquy

Does it matter?

I know I've done this once or twice before, but don't recall the
specifics, so appreciate any guidance.

Not sure how this discussion moved under this subject, because "Burned"

In any case, Georgina is correct. It's trivial from a CLI, as long as
you know where to put things.

There is one more command, though, namely:

chown -R root:wheel /Applications/Colloquy.app

Re: Apple Scripts

2014-11-06 Thread Jonathan C. Cohn
This should work.
tell application "VoiceOver"
tell commander to perform command "move mouse pointer to voiceover
cursor"
end tell

see http://www.cbtbc.org/tools/asvo/voec.php for details.

Re: Apple Scripts

Oh, to play a sound there is definitely a way to do this, and the shutdown unix
command can be used for restarts and shutdowns.

Best wishes,

Jonathan

Re: Cookies in Safari

2014-11-06 Thread Jonathan C. Cohn
There are three options for cookies. Allow, don’t allow third party and
disallow.

This is currently and I believe for a while has been in the privacy area of the
Safari settings.
Best of luck,

Best wishes,

Jonathan

Moving item to the desktop

Hi,
I just bought a Mac book air. How do I place an item like mail or Safari on the
desktop. Appreciate your kind response.

Regards, Vemak

Re: Moving item to the desktop

2014-11-06 Thread David Griffith
I am not sure it is a good idea to use the Desktop, especially as these apps
are already on your dock for easy launching. Just press VO D to bring up the
Dock, press M for mail and then press enter. Similarly for safari press vo D
and then S and press enter again.

Also if you turn on applescripts and commander in VO Utility right option M
will launch Mail and right option S will launch safari

If you really want to put these apps on the desktop, which is probably a bad
idea as multiple items on a crowded desktop will slow the loading of your .
..
> Mac if your desktop gets too crowded.

1. Go to desktop with shift VO D.
2. Bring up Applications folder with command shift A.
3. Interact with folder browser and locate Mail.
4. Press command L to create an alias of Mail.
5. Press Command C to copy the alias file.
6. Bring up Finder Desktop with command shift D.
7. Press command V to paste the Mail alias to the desktop.

I wouldn't bother I would just use the Dock with VO-d or Launchpad with
FN-F4.
