Re: question about running Windows on a Mac

2014-06-15 Thread Tom Moore
Hi,
The phone you may be making backups are will eat up some space.
Both methods of running windows should work fine but using vmware there are
some extra features you can get such as version control by either copying the
machine's files to another drive if you want to keep a clean version before you
play with to use as a base and the time machine backups that the mac will use
to keep you save day to day.

Re: question about running Windows on a Mac

2014-06-15 Thread Tom Moore
Hi,
As you know this list is not for that sort of thing.
Only thing I will say is that when you install windows with out a key you can
use it for 30 days before you register.
I do this for testing purposes when doing custom install, development, etc, but
this is not how one should run it in a production environment.

Fission

2014-06-15 Thread Christopher Hallsworth

Hi all
I use Fission by Rogue Amoeba to edit audio and save them as ringtones.
I was trying to do the latter this morning but for the life of me I
can't select the part I want to save as a ringtone. The set selection
window accessed with command-shift-l illudes me as far as keyboard
access goes. I have a couple of other audio editors so tried them and
they don't appear to offer direct saving as ringtones like Fission does.
These audio editors are Amadeus Pro and Garage Band which I've just
updated this morning. This is all on a Macbook Pro 2012 running
Mavericks. Help in any or all of this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

OFF topic, "Taking accessibility one step beyond" project

2014-06-15 Thread Daniela Rubio
Hello everyone!
I leave here some interesting information for many, because it benefits
everyone.
If anyone would like to participate, please spread this and contact me.

A few years ago, Apple and its technologies began to revolutionize the way
people with special needs interact with technology; and today, millions of
people worldwide, have benefited from it to accomplish a fuller life in areas
ranging from personal autonomy, to vocational and educational productivity.
Apple is working every day to improve their technology, and give apps and
content creators , different ways to develop materials which are accessible to
all. However, precisely developers and publishers, are the ones which must
become aware that all users, regardless of their physical or cognitive
characteristics, are entitled to benefit from their creations.
At an educational level, it is known that there are a large number of
applications and textbooks that are not yet accessible; and are beyond the
reach of students, even when they have an inclusive operating system at hand.
"" Taking accessibility one step beyond "was born in order to openly express
the importance of creating accessible apps and content, not those made
specifically for people with special needs, but entirely accessible to all
users.
As a first step, a video will be created to show at a conference where several
developers and publishers worldwide will be present, in addition the material
will be broadcasted to make it visible for all after the conference.
If some one wants to participate, he or she should send a short video, maximum
45 seconds, where teachers, students with disabilities of all ages or any one
who supports special education technologies, states two things:
1. what new paths have accessible technologies opened regarding education and
why, and how Apple has transformed learning with them for people with special
needs?
2., why do you think that more accessible apps and contents, should be created,
and how would this change your way of teaching and learning?
Participants must record a short video using their mac, iPad or iPhone,
specifying if he or she is a student, teacher, support teacher, or parent of a
student with special needs  and answering the two questions in a direct way;
this is, not repeating the actual question in their speech.
In order to protect susceptible information, participants don't need to specify
their names, work or study institutions in the video.
We encourage the participation of students of all ages, including children,
because their experiences are very interesting. How ever, if a person under 18
years old wants to participate, he or she must have their parents or tutor
approval.
If you or some one around you want to participate, he or she most send their
video before June 20 at 23:59 +1 GMT to:
daniela.ru...@me.com
Due to NDA and data protection issues, I can't speak just now openly about the
exact details of the conference in which this first video is going to apear,
but if some one is interested, please contact me off list and I can explain
further.
I really think that this is a very good opportunity to create awareness. We
have very accessible technology, now we need to bring that accessibility and
inclusion to apps and contents.
Thank you for reading this and I wipe we can make it posible.

would work but it did not. No matter where I pasted the new file into the
project, it and only it was there when I listened to the final result.

Then I saw Join files on the Sound menu and thought this might work. I
can't quite figure out how to get my list of files in order to join.
There's a drag and drop area but I'm a little stumped on how that works.

Anyone use this feature and can you explain it? If not, how can I join
these files together to make one larger file?

IOS and picker items

2014-06-15 Thread Jenine Stanley
Is there any way to get VO not to say "Selected" before every picker item? It's
beyond annoying. This only seems to happen in IOS 7.1.1. It can say "Selected"
after the item but if you need to say, set a time, getting the minutes correct
can be tedium.

Re: Brother Printers and Accessibility

Yeah, I saw some references to a web style interface on some printers. the one
I'm getting is a HL-2240; it is just USB - no networking on this one. Cheaper
that way and I don't have much printing to do out here. Glad the native Mac
environment is sufficient to work with day to day operations of the printer.

Messages and Mail / One Row Added -was- Re: VO won't shut up when downloading files if Downloads folder is open

2014-06-15 Thread Cara Quinn
HI Alex,

For what it is worth, I just saw a very similar behavior this morning on my
MacBook Air 11 inch. I was focused on the Messages app and not focused at all
on Mail, and kept hearing VO say 'one row added' etc. as each new email message
was downloaded.

So even though I was focused with VoiceOver in Messages, and reading / trying
to respond to iMessages, VO was still announcing updates to my inbox in Mail.

Cursor tracking was definitely on, and I was definitely focused in Messages and
was able to type in the edit field. Though VO kept interrupting what I was
doing... So I wonder if this is related to what you are seeing?...

This is the first time I've seen this. This is definitely not only strange but
downright obnoxious and counterproductive. :)

Thanks for letting us know about what you are seeing.

Cara :)

Hi all,
The subject basically says it all. If I leave my Downloads folder open, and I
start downloading a new file, VO constantly starts saying the name of whatever
file was last focused on in Downloads. I said "starts saying" because it
happens so often, once a second if not more, that speech never gets more than a
word or two in before beginning again. This happens even if I'm not in Finder

Mini never once did this. Any ideas? Thanks.

It's in Control Centre. Touch anywhere on the status bar and do a three
finger swipe up from the bottom to reveal it.

Re: Messages and Mail / One Row Added -was- Re: VO won't shut up when downloading files if Downloads folder is open

2014-06-15 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Cara,

Could this problem be related to the Notifications? I've removed everything
from Notifications and set them all to do nothing. Just taking them out of
Notifications wasn't sufficient.

I have an activity for Mail with Verbosity set to Low, and links and URLs set
to play tone. This all makes Mail much less verbose and pleasanter to use.

Cheers,

Anne

Re: Locking rotation on an Ipad 2 running IOS7.1.1

2014-06-15 Thread Kevin Barry

It is locked via the side switch.
However, that switch can be set to do that or to mute.
It can be changed in settings if it's set to mute.

Re: itunes and volume of airplay speakers (sorry if this is posted twice)

2014-06-15 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

I've actually never seen this done. I believe that if you adjust the volume,
it is going to affect both sets of speakers simultaneously. I don't think that
this can be separately controlled.
