You do have preview, though.
Look in your applications folder.
Alternatively, if you just do a command o on the pdf you want to read, it will
automatically open in preview. Then you can just read it.

How do you choose a correction after you hear the blurbling sound?

Re: spell check primer

2014-03-29 Thread Jenine Stanley
If you use Quick Nav, turn it off to use spell check features as outlined in
all the instructions you are about to receive.

Once Quick Nav is turned off, then down arrow once. If this does not yield the
suggestion list, left arrow until back into the misspelled word then down arrow
once. If there's more than one suggestion, right arrow, which is totally
counterintuitive to what you do in Windows spell check. When you find the
suggestion you want, hit enter.

Hope that helps.

Is MenuTab Pro broken?

Hi all,

It seems that lately when I've tried to use MenuTab Pro it no longer works very
well. When I cycle through my newsfeed by heading, I can no longer see the
name of the poster, for example. Anyone else seeing this? I really liked it
at first, but am now starting to feel it has few advantages over just wrestling
my way through the regular FB site.
Cheers,

Re: spell check primer

2014-03-29 Thread Alex Hall
The other way to do this is longer, but you should know it just in case. Put
your cursor anywhere on the misspelled word and bring up the context menu with
vo-shift-m. The first items are the spelling suggestions; move to one and hit
enter to use it. Below these are the "ignore" and "learn" options, which will
temporarily mark the word as correct, or add it to your dictionary so it is
always correct, respectively. Those two options are the main advantage of this
method, as they do not appear in the suggestions list you can get by moving to
the end of the word.

Re: Is MenuTab Pro broken?

I wonder if you are running it in mobile mode and FB have simply changed the
design, as they do from time to time. OS version makes no difference, but I am
on Mavericks anyway. Whatever happens in Menutab will always be reflected on
the same version of the website, it literally just acts as a shell for the site
and gives us notifications.

Re: spell check primer

2014-03-29 Thread Alex Hall
Correct, though I'm surprised you can do much of anything in text with Quicknav
enabled. I tend to have it off 95% of the time, and only use it to get around
webpages or large windows like iTunes. Oh, I don't know if anyone mentioned
these, but cmd-semicolon will move you to the next misspelled word, and
cmd-shift-semicolon will check the document in a separate dialog.

Re: scanned pdf document

2014-03-29 Thread Teresa Cochran
If it is a scanned document, it might have to have an OcR process done on it. I
haven't tried the print to pdf method, but I know there are online services to
do this. Robobraille is known for Braille transcription, but it also converts
image files and image pdf to readable pdf and other formats.

Re: Is MenuTab Pro broken?

2014-03-29 Thread Teresa Cochran
Yes, you might try switching it to desktop mode. I admit that I stopped using
menuTab once I realized that it has always simply presented the website pages.
I always have Safari open, so it doesn't matter to me whether I have a
standalone application for Facebook. Yorufukouru has a different interface for
Twitter, but MenuTab simply presents the webpages in a standalone application.

You must choose in your subject line, your format preference for the new

Do they do html I wonder?
Anyway, it is a simple test.

Once Quick Nav is turned off, then down arrow once. If this does not yield

down arrow once. If there's more than one suggestion, right arrow, which

Question about shortcuts in new garageband

2014-03-29 Thread Ioana Gandrabur
Hi all,
I have updated to new GarageBand and am missing some shorctcuts I was using a
lot.
Is there still a way to delete and move with some keyboard shortcut?
I used ctrl delete I think but now nothing works but going to edit menu and
selecting that option.

Also, what's a good way to move to begining or end of a region? I looked
through the table of keyboard shortcuts with no luck.

Thanks for your help.

Best,

keeping old GarageBand version after Upgrading to V10

2014-03-29 Thread Phil Halton
Is it possible to upgrade to GB V10 from V6.0.5 and still be able to use
V6.0.5? I ask because I see that upgrading to Mavericks automatically upgraded
iMovie, while putting the older version in a folder of its own, presumably for
using both versions.
GB did not get the same treatment and I still have the older, more accessible
version on my system. When I open it up, I am asked to upgrade to V10.

It seems that lately when I've tried to use MenuTab Pro it no longer works

Re: batch conversion?

2014-03-29 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

I've not seen an app that does things this direction. Most things I've seen
tend to go the other direction. I played for a while today trying to build an
AppleScript to do this but there aren't enough Pages features scriptable yet
for me to make it work. At least, in my limited knowledge of Apple Scripting.
If I could just get it to duplicate the file while in Pages, I think I could
make it work for you, otherwise, it just errors out when attempting to save the
document as a Pages document.

I'll take a look at Doug's Scripts and see if he has anything.

Re: How do you follow someone in Night Owl?

2014-03-29 Thread Alex Hall
Indeed there is, but it isn't a keyboard shortcut. Find a tweet from the person
(use cmd-u if you don't have them in your selected tab already). Once you are
on a tweet from them, move left or right until you find the "drawer". Interact,
find and open the "user action menu", arrow down to "following status", hit
right arrow to open it, and choose 'follow". It sounds more complicated than it
is, but it still isn't as easy as a keystroke or menu command.

Pages will open word documents. Is there a particular reason you need to
convert the documents to pages format? I'd do this with care, as sometimes
it's possible to modify or lose formatting altogether.

I haven't looked in the menus, so it might not be there. Based on your subject,
though, you might be looking for the wrong thing. The command you want to
assign is "jump to linked item". I'm pretty sure I've seen it, but don't have a
display right here to check.

Re: jump to window with braille edge and mac

2014-03-29 Thread Robert C

Don and Alex,
There has to be an updated list somewhere but it looks to be
invisible. HIMS' and Apple's have lists but they do not agree with each
other and when the Edge is in VO help mode, that too is not in agreement.

I got the iPhone list sorted out but not the Mac. Wish HIMS would
get on it.

I haven't looked in the menus, so it might not be there. Based on your subject, though,
you might be looking for the wrong thing. The command you want to assign is "jump to

Re: jump to window with braille edge and mac

2014-03-29 Thread Alex Hall
You can re-assign the keys on any braille display for the Mac. The best way to
figure things out is to toss out the Hims command list, except for special
scroll key commands, and go off what the Mac says. Open up your display
settings, go to "assign commands", and look at the table; those are the
mappings your Edge will use.

As to the vo-j, yes, that's the command I mean. VoiceOver calls it "jump to
linked item", and if memory serves, it's in the Nvigation menu when you are
choosing the command.

Re: jump to window with braille edge and mac

2014-03-29 Thread don bishop
Thanks Robert and Alex,

The jump to linked item is what I was looking for.
Robert, I couldn't agree with you more regarding the command lists. The whole
thing is very confusing. Most lists I've seen talk about the "most commonly
used commands", but I want a list of each and every available command.
Oh well, mayhbe someday.

Alex,
Yes I can do that, map keys but its too soon on the Mac experience
yet. Why I am so fouused on a good list tho is that I am too new to the
Mac and dont want to stumble around.

When you say to go to display settings and look at the table, this
is on the Mac? That might be just what I want. Thanks.

Re: jump to window with braille edge and mac

2014-03-29 Thread Robert C

Don,
More confusing than it should be! LOL

Here is what I have. Both links are from Apple. This one is the list
of HIMS specific commands.

This one is the common iOS commands and applies to the Mac as well
as the iPhone. But, its old, from 2012. Alex has a good idea if I
understand him correctly. That is, to go into display settings on the
Mac and look at the mapping table. Too late for me to try tonight but I
wonder if this list can be saved to a file. Anyway, we are getting there.

Re: jump to window with braille edge and mac

2014-03-29 Thread Alex Hall
Sorry I wasn't clearer. Hit VO-f8 to open the Voiceover Utility. Arrow down to
Braille, vo-right to the displays tab, and hit space. Find the table of
displays, and arrow to the Edge, then vo-right to the "Assign Commands" button.
That opens a window with the full list of commands and their braille keys, plus
instructions on how to change an assignment if you want to.
