O Movie with voiceover?

2014-03-21 Thread KJSC radio
Hi. I have some questions for you all. first, has anyone tried to use the
latest version of I movie with voiceover? and if so, these are my questions.
1.
How can I get an event to my movie project?
2.
I am trying to race the audio of a .mov file, but I really can't find a way to
do that in I movie. Any help with these 2 things would help a lot! Thanks all.

Re: navigating in the latest version of numbers

2014-03-21 Thread Phil Halton
Honestly?
If that's so, and you were a fan of excel, then maybe I'll give it a try.
Is there a good help system for numbers where I can read up on it and get
answers?
I guess I like excel because I've used it for years with JAWS which is highly
tuned to work with excel.
How is it working with formulas in numbers? are they easy to set up and edit?
is basic navigation around a spreadsheet as easy as it is with excel? (arrow
keys with modifiers like control and shift home and end get you anywhere you
want to go)
My largest sheets have at most two tables, or chunks of continuous data, and
range about 100 rows/6 columns, is that what we're calling "huge"?

Hi,

Double-tap on the Airplane Mode button to toggle it on or off. The double-tap
works for most items, if it is a toggle, it will change its state, if it
redirects you, then the new screen will activate.

Latest Pages for College/Professional Work

2014-03-21 Thread Alex Hall
Hi all,
Someone on Twitter was asking me about getting a Mac for college. One concern
was word-processing, and whether Pages and Voiceover is good enough for papers,
resumes, that sort of thing. I don't use Pages much, so I can't answer
accurately, but I know people on here do. So, how is Pages (the Mavericks
version) compared with, say, Jaws or NVDA with MS Office? What can you *not*
do? What is easier?

I've used Pages some, and I love that the header, body, and footer are all
separate areas visible at once. However, I've not gone beyond a basic, blank
template, except to look at a flyer layout and get very confused. I have no
need for page headers, numbering, inserting tables or images, and other
advanced features. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: navigating in the latest version of numbers

2014-03-21 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi there
I realize that I said I hated the program you like, but I think I can answer
some of your questions although Nic brought up something I had not considered.
First, and you may know this already, Numbers will except Excel files that have
got Excel formulas, and you can type in Excel formulas into Numbers. You can
also save out Excel files, including the newest type of Excel files.

Let me give you an example of some of the commands for navigation. Command down
arrow will take you to the bottom of the column, and command up arrow will take
you all the way to the top. Command left and right arrows go to the end of
rows. You can add the shift key to these commands to select. If you press the
option key with the left arrow right arrow down arrow or up arrow, you can add
columns and rows. I will tell you that there is one change which I wish Apple
had not made in the new Numbers. It used to be that you could get to the
inspector to change your cell formats, but now it is done differently.

It is easy to edit cell formulas, which was not easy in the old Numbers at all.
The older version of Numbers had a lot of memory problems, and I can see with
spreadsheet as big as yours, you would've had a lot of problems using it. I
will say that I haven't yet gotten a sheet with 100 rows yet so I can't yet
speak to that. I will by the end of the year get one that big and will find out
for myself on that.

Regards,
Gigi

Since the Mavericks update the accessibility for pages has improved. Tables and

Hi,

If you google google chrome, you will get straight to it, simply download it,
open the DMG, copy the app to your apps folder and open that. No, you use
VoiceOver, and in the main, it's just like using Safari. You can check the
keystrokes for commands through the menus, but most things, especially VO, just
work the same.

Chrome and Safari are actually built on the same base render engine so
they are very similar in many respects. Main difference is Chrome is

Re: program recommendation to capture audio/video from an internet stream.

2014-03-21 Thread Chris Blouch
Launch the app then choose New screen recording from the file menu,
which is also command-control-N. That will pop a new window and put
focus on the start recording button. Hit that to begin. After that,
everything on the screen will be recorded to a file. It will say "click
to record the whole screen. When they say click they really mean it. I
couldn't figure out how to start it without clicking the mouse, but at
least I didn't have to click anywhere in particular. After that the
recorder window will seem to go away but it's really still there. Do
whatever you want recorded and when you're done go back to the Quicktime
App and then use the Windows Chooser (VO-F2) to pick the Screen
Recording window and you'll be dropped on the stop button. Do that and
it will pop a new window with the recording in it. From there you can
close the window with command-w which will prompt you for a filename and
place to save it.

Re: navigating in the latest version of numbers

2014-03-21 Thread Phil Halton
thanks, that's useful stuff. of course, you could always make up a large table
with dummy data for personal testing purposes instead of waiting for the table
to grow large over time.

BTW: I just bought numbers and after checking out the help system and tinkering
around with a couple of template files, (editing formulas etc), Numbers looks
pretty good. I'm going to try and move some of my excel spreadsheet files over
to the Mac system and see how it goes.

it'll probably do fine for your limited needs. as far as format checking, you
can set VO to announce format changes and use that to format check the
document. I just bought pages after being a die hard MS word/JAWS user. I still
am, but I'm looking into Pages and it looks like it'll do a fair job for word
processing.

Re: Latest Pages for College/Professional Work

2014-03-21 Thread Alex Hall
That "fair job" is what confuses me. I'd love to know just what Word/Jaws will
do that Pages/VO will not, and why people love one over the other. I had to
teach someone Word a few months ago, and I had to learn it myself at the same
time... It was awful! The ribbon was hard to navigate, changing fonts was
confusing and tedious, and something as simple as adding a header was downright
arduous.

By contrast, I can insert a header and footer in about two seconds in Pages,
and it took me only a minute to successfully insert a footnote, even though
I've never done that before. VO even jumped right to the footnote text, and
announced when it encountered the footnote in my document with a special sound
and the words "footnote 1".

I've never used either Word or Pages for heavy lifting, so to speak, but my
relatively brief intros to both seem to indicate that pages is laid out
sensibly and is easy to use, where Word is tedious and confusing. Maybe it's
just me. Again, I'm asking on behalf of someone who asked me on Twitter, not
for myself. Thanks!

Re: Latest Pages for College/Professional Work

2014-03-21 Thread Anne Robertson
I've been holding off replying to this question as I can't compare Pages to MS
Word and JAWS. However, since the return of shortcuts for styles, Pages is
almost as good as it used to be and in some ways it's better.

You can create a template with all the styles you need along with their
shortcuts and you can now use footnotes and endnotes, and track changes. Tables
are also much easier to handle now but merge fields are still missing so you
can't use the Insert menu to pull in your own information from your contacts.

There are ready-made templates for several kinds of reports including research
paper, and we've created an APA format template.

Pages has different ways of doing things from MS Word so you need to take some
time to learn it. There are, however, several people on this list who use Pages
regularly so help is always at hand.

Cheers,

Anne

Re: Latest Pages for College/Professional Work

2014-03-21 Thread Edward Green
Hi Alex,

This question may be slightly complicated by the fact that JAWS includes
features to make use of MS Word more productive that aren't strictly speaking
to do with accessibility.

For instance, you can search for changes in text attribute and skim read
documents, including pulling out sentences that contain particular keywords.
Whether these features are useful or not will depend on what you want to do
in Word.

That said, all the advanced productivity features in the world don't help if FS
then breaks access to the Save As dialog box for a month ...

Cheers,

Ed

Google chrome installation problems

2014-03-21 Thread Jesus Garcia
Okay, folks I cannot seem to get past opening the initial disk image.
First I assume that doing a search takes one to the correct download
site, I am typing google chrome for the mac, it appears though I am
downloading the correct file. when I click on the disk image with either
vo space bar or command o I get google chrome image group and a close
button maximize button and minimize button. Only once did I seem to get
the true chrome browser when I quit then tried finding it in the apps
folders it did not appear. What am I doing wrong?

Music Scores

2014-03-21 Thread Brandon Olivares
A bit of an odd question, but are there any apps out there that allow you to
enter notes in some way and export perhaps an image of the music score?
I blog about music, and would like to show excerpts of music I'm working on so
I can refer to them. Anyone know of a way I can do this?

Thanks,
Brandon

garage band, update or not and do I really have it

2014-03-21 Thread Regina Alvarado
I have an interesting problem or not. APPLE menu and updates on Mini says I
have update to garage band. I have tried to download twice and keep getting
message: "garage band failed to download. Go to purchased page." Mini acts like
it has garage band and there is an update. Where do I find it if I have it, and
how do I clear off the download if I do not have it. I did not buy it either.
Thanks for the help.

Re: Music Scores

2014-03-21 Thread John Sanfilippo
Here are some ideas:

1, Use Lime and Lime aloud from Dancing dots to enter your notation.
Get the free Cute PDF and print your score to PDF.

2, Try The Braille Music Editor version 2.1.4.4. In which you write braille
music. Export to music xml. Import the music xml to the notation program of
choice and export to pdf or tif from there.

\3. There is somewhere on the web an online braille music input program which
outputs Printed score, probably in PDF format. I know it exists, I just don't
recall the link.

Re: iBank for the Mac? Is it accessible?bi

2014-03-21 Thread Eileen Misrahi
hi,

That would be great. I'm not in a hurry, because the app itself is not on sale.
Another question I have if you can check out in the 5 or 5.1 version, is if you
can print the checks through a printer or not. I have a very simple finance
program for my PC that I can do this function.

Thanks for taking the time to check this app out for me.

Best,
Eileen

Re: program recommendation to capture audio/video from an internet stream.

2014-03-21 Thread Chris Blouch
You don't have to keep QuickTime in the foregound. Actually, it would be
hard to do a screen recording of anything useful if you did have to keep
it in the foreground.

Ok, will I constantly need to keep that window in the forground, or can I do
other stuff with the computer while that's recording? Aside from that, I can't
figure out if I managed to get it up and running or not; still playing around
with it.

Launch the app then choose New screen recording from the file menu, which is also

a file. It will say "click to record the whole screen. When they say click they
really mean it. I couldn't figure out how to start it without clicking the mouse,
but at least I didn't have to click anywhere in particular. After that the recorder
window will seem to go away but it's really still there. Do whatever you want
recorded and when you're done go back to the Quicktime App and then use the Windows
Chooser (VO-F2) to pick the Screen Recording window and you'll be dropped on the
stop button. Do that and it will pop a new window with the recording in it. From
there you can close the window with command-w which will prompt you for a filename
and place to save it.

Might not be exactly what you want but the quicktime Player app lets you make a
screen recording to a file which you can then play back again later.

Ok, I didn't think I'd ever need anything like this, but can anyone recommend a
program that will capture the video as well as the audio portion of an internet

service, sense my 4-year-old loves to watch the congrigation sing, and
everybody stands up and claps and the like, and on my own end, I like the way
our choir sings these songs better than the original artists.
Does anyone know of a program that will do this?

Re: Google chrome installation problems

2014-03-21 Thread Chris Blouch
It's been a while since I installed Chrome as it self-updates once you
have it. Once you open the DMG or DiskiMaGe file you should have an
additional fake drive show up. In that fake drive will be the Chrome
app. You copy that, go to your Applications folder, and paste. That
copies the whole thing to your Apps folder. You can then throw the disk
image and the fake drive in the trash. You can then run Chrome from your
apps folder. Sounds like you might have been running Chrome from the
disk image and never copied it to the Applications folder.

First I assume that doing a search takes one to the correct download
site, I am typing google chrome for the mac, it appears though I am
downloading the correct file. when I click on the disk image with
either vo space bar or command o I get google chrome image group and a
close button maximize button and minimize button. Only once did I seem
to get the true chrome browser when I quit then tried finding it in
the apps folders it did not appear. What am I doing wrong?

playing dvd's

2014-03-21 Thread don bishop
Hi,

Is there a way to play a dvd which has multiple programs on it which allows you
to select a particular program? I have an imac with the apple external cd/dvd
drive.

Also, some tv programs have a third channel for audio description. Is there a
way to play that channel along with the stereo channels on the mac?

Thanks for any info you can provide,

Don
