Re: A surprisingaccessibility effort from microsoft - one note
Great! Now let's see it happen to other Office apps. Regards Chris Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof! On 17/03/2014 21:47, Piotr Machacz wrote: Hi all, So today while going through my usual routine of checking news sites, I found out that Microsoft released their note taking app, one note, on OS X and that it's free for limited time. One note existed for a while, but I never payed much attention to it, until now. I figured that it's free, so I might as well try it out, also see how well the mobile apps read. So, having downloaded the massive 400mb download, I must say I'm impressed. Maybe it shouldn't be all that surprising after seeing how accessible the office web apps are, but one note on mac? Someone really sat down to make the interface logical with voice over. There is a lot of information read about the various pages, like how many objects they contain. The content itself also reads very well, and Voiceover indicates links, images, and even Tables. The ribbon is also read very well and I personally find it easier to navigate with the VO cursor than I ever did with the focus on Windows. So, give this app a try while it's free. This also gives me really high hopes for the next edition of office for mac that is apparently to be released later this year. If this, and the web apps are anything to go by, it just might work very well. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: Upgrading Vmware Fusion
Update - Windows 7 64 bit runs very well even with only 1 core assigned and 1 GB of RAM. I'm also doing tests on Os X as a virtual machine. Yes this can be done and for those speculating completely legal otherwise Fusion wouldn't allow such an operation. Regards Chris Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof! On 17/03/2014 21:15, chris Apple Boy wrote: I can tell you that startup as far as Fusion is concerned is much shorter in v6x than in v5x. Also, and this might just be my machine but Fusion keeps going even if there's a lot of disc activity. In v5 the mac would either delay in responding or report that Fusion is busy then ready. Again this could just be my machine and not a complaint at all. Will do some more testing with my Windows 7 64 bit VM. Note from V6x of Fusion anyone even without a Vmware account can trial the software at no charge for 30 days. Regards Chris Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof! All I had to do was: 1. Open the disc image in the Finder. 2. Copy the single .app file to the Applications folder. 3. Ran the copy from the Applications folder. 4. Followed the instructions, including entering in the password for my user account twice. This is akin to User Account Control under Windows Vista and later as well as other Unidx-based operating systems which Os X uses behind the scenes. This is so much better than Windows and upgrading Vmware Workstation. You are forced to uninstall the old version before you can install the new version. Not so with Vmware Fusion for the mac and no doubt other applications. Apps from the App Store are updated in the background as of Mavericks so even easier. I tell you what, the more I use this mac the more I realize why it can be such a hype. It is more stable, less prone to crashes or other bugs, and is certainly less prone to malware. I'm not against Windows at all; I just find the mac is good if not better at certain things such as the above. In fact, I have Windows working on this mac thanks to Fusion. It is Windows 7 64 bit. Re: workaround for the bluetooth connection issue.
It's under the bluetooth option under system preferences; there's a checkbox that you can tab to that says "show bluetooth in menubar,"which is unchecked by default, and you just check it and it will come up in the menu's that you would VO+space twice on to do things like check your battery life, wifi status, etc., then when you pull up the menu from there, all your devices will show up, and you can VO+space on them to select them, and a submenu will come up giving you an option to connect them, which solves the whole pain in the kneck issue of trying to connect them through system preferences. Re: program to batch extract audio from video files?
You don't really need any of the buttons as far as I can tell. The things to change the format you're saving to and the bitrate, etc are all in a scroll areal to the right of the brouse button and table where the files you've added for conversion appear. The only button you need is the button I mentioned earlier, that actually starts the conversion. DFTBA! John D. I think that's how I found it, at least. One note: The button to start the conversion isn't actually labeled. It's the very last button, directly to the left of a checkbox, which is the bottom most element in the window. The only thing this doesn't do is delete the video files when it's done. Deleting those after is a simple enough task however, unless someone knows of a way to have it convert and delete. Let me know if you have questions about this program at all. DFTBA! John D. Reading Bookshare's XML
Dear List, Has anyone encountered problems when opening the .xml file of a bookshare title in Safari? I've tried with multiple books that I've recently downloaded and end up with a safari page whose content is empty. Older downloads of books open and can read just fine with VO and Safari. navigating in the latest version of numbers
Hello, I know this has been asked in the past, I'm hoping I'm just missing something, or there has been some new improvements. Is there a way in the latest version of Numbers for the Mac to jump to a specific cell? For example, in Excel on windows using jaws, you can press control G, to type in the cell coordinates say A, 5, hit enter, and focus is brought to that cell. Thanks. Re: Hotkeys for spell checking.
Hi, When I spell check in an app like Text Edit, my process is to use the inline rather than the dialog box. Consider using the Command semicolon to jump to the first instance of a misspelled word. At that point, I will often use the speak selected text to confirm the word (that's just option escape by default if it is turned on in the dictation and speech preference pane). Then, I use the vo shift M to bring up the contextual menu that includes the options you want, along with the suggested corrections. I find this very fast and efficient. In fact, I'm about to use it to check this message before I hit send. Best,--K Faith doesn't give you the answers, it merely stops you from asking the questions. All the books that work now on my Mavericks machine were downloaded a couple years ago off of a snow leopard machine. Re: an annoying little problem
Well, yes, in fact, I want the person to be able to hear everything including Voice OVer and the app I'm using. Come to think of it, I just thought of a way. Plug my microphone directly in to a mixer, plug my Mac's output in to another channel on that mixer, and then, make sure Skype's output is redirected to my griphin iMic and I think that should do it but I'd like a neater solution that doesn't involve doing that. Otherwise, there's the chance that Skype could ffeedback on itself. Sent from my Mac, the only computer with full accessibility for the blind built-in! Re: an annoying little problem
If you aren't trying to record it, couldn't you just use your built in microphone as input and your external speakers? It's not recording quality obviously, but depending on what you are doing, this set up will allow someone to hear voiceover and any other sounds coming from your mac. You could probably use whatever microphone you want as long as you are using the external speakers for all of your sound. Re: navigating in the latest version of numbers
As far as I know, such a key combination does not exist in numbers. Would be nice in a very large spreadsheet to jump to Y472 to jump to column Y row 472. There is a Find feature if you know what you are looking for and command-J will jump you between the matches in your find results, but not a direct entry row column shortcut. Otherwise, the analog way with an external mixer works. I've even gone so far as to run Jaws in a virtual machine with Skype on the Mac and and an external mic for doing demos of how stuff works with multiple screen readers (VO and Windows). Re: reading list help please
In the bookmark menu, choose "show bookmarks" VO right from the toolbar till you hear "bookmarks sidebar" and interact with it. Find the reading list tab and VO-space on it. Here there will be a search field and a table with the items in the reading list. You can also use command-control-2 to bring up the reading list sidebar, and this choice is also in the view menu. There are a lot of safari sidebar options in the view menu, such as history and bookmarks as well. hth, Teresa "The golden age of science fiction is twelve."--Pete graham On Mar 18, 2014, at 10:19 PM, Ioana Gandrabur wrote: > Hi all, > > Can anyone give tips about how to use reading list in safari?
