Re: So where the heck do I go to add handwriting to the VO rotor?

2013-09-19 Thread Patrick Neazer
Hello Christine and all:

It is all the way at the bottom of the list … the last one. go to accessibility
then to voiceover and then to rotor and then go all all all the way to the
bottom :). It took me a second to find it myself.

Hopefully this information proves useful to you. Please let us know.

Take good care and I wish you enough.

Re: So where the heck do I go to add handwriting to the VO rotor?

2013-09-19 Thread Christine Grassman
I think it was vertical navigation or sounds; I forget now. I've got it turned
off and charging; someone who isn't on the list emailed me and told me that she
didn't get about six of the rotor choices until she charged her battery, and
then all of a sudden, all of them were there. So I'm giving that a whirl.
Someone else told me it was silent when she flicked over it, but someone
sighted told her it was there -- once she selected it, all was well. Odd little
bugs, I guess. I'll try again in a few.

Eureka! Handwriting has been located. This time, it seemed to take a while for
the additional options -- the final four or five -- to appear on the screen.
There was a sort of hesitation as I explored. But it's there.

Hello Christine and all:

I am so glad to hear that you located handwriting. both because you are most
likely quite relieved to have found it :) and it constrains that flow of
comments about IOS 7 being somehow flawed :). it does not mean that IOS is
perfect and does not have bugs … it is just that this is not one of them :).

Happy handwriting and enjoy your experience with the new operating system.

Keep the list posted on how you are doing. I am not the moderator though I do
not believe that encouraging your input is out of bounds :). here is to
possibly being corrected :)

Take good care and I wish you enough.

iOS 7, the worse update for norwegians using VoiceOver

2013-09-19 Thread David Hole
Hi folks.

With a developer account, I've had time to playaround with iOS 7 on my
iPhone 4S over a month now.
After updating to iOS 7, I found that the norwegian voice have changed, and
to a new and quite unusable one.
I immediatly reached out to the accessibility team at apple to report this
mistake, and they said they couldn't help with unreleased software, so they
"forwarded" me to the bug reporting tool on the developer page, wich is not
that VoiceOver friendly.
I managed to report a bug regarding the voice, and nothing have happened
since.
Yesterday, when I confirmed that the update was available, I sendt away a
mail again to the accessibility team regarding this, and after a few mails,
they said they forwarded my request to get back the old voice to the speech
team.

Since norwegians are few, I encourage norwegian VO-users to report the
voice issue to apple.
Also I was able to speak about the problem in the media.
You can read the article here:
http://www.digi.no/922924/iphone-snakker-daarligere-norsk
For non-scandinavian, just use Google Translate.

Are there someone here who can help in any way?
We over here would be very thankful if so.

Best regards David

Hello,
The address bar and search bar are now the same box. So, if you want to search,
just type what you want, and hit search. There is no separate search box no

Re: And where on earth have they put the search box in Safari?

2013-09-19 Thread Scott Rumery
No you don't. The location bar is now a unified search and url edit field. This
means that if you want to perform a web search all that you need to do is type
in the location bar and then press Return or Go, I can't remember which one it
is.

Re: So where the heck do I go to add handwriting to the VO rotor?

2013-09-19 Thread Mark BurningHawk Baxter
Handwriting is the very last option in the voiceover rotor lists of things that
can be selected or not selected. When she find handwriting, if it is not
selected, double tap on it and it will select and shopping the rotor. My
problem is that handwriting seems to show up in between characters and words in
the rotor, which means a next your twist when I want to go from characters two
words.

In fact, I have turned handwriting off from the rotor, because I cannot get any
of my letters to come out correctly. I would be very interested in knowing if
any of you or us make it work. I thought it was a great idea, and have had it
for a long time before apple stole it out of my head.

Putting on my tinfoil hat now. Be well.

You shoul'd download iTunes from www.apple.com and re-install it.

I allready am, cause I installed the beta version of Mavericks, witch
includes iBooks for MacOSX. When it will be released, you'll be able
too. :-)

Re: How to Use Character Viewer

2013-09-19 Thread Chris Blouch
I fiddled with it a bit. So I did command-option-T to pull up special
characters. Sometimes I lost focus on this window which seems to not be
attached to any particular app, so the usual command-~ wouldn't take me
back. Instead I had to do VO-F2 twice to get the window chooser going.
Anyway, once I was there I was able to pick Emoji from the Character
Category table, then nature from the subcategory table and finally I
navigated to something called Wolf Face from the Characters Window grid.
From there all the tutorials said to use drag and drop but I found I
could do the contextual menu with VO-shift-M which brought up a menu
with one choice called Copy Character Info which I could then paste.
This inserted three lines. The first was the actual Wolf Face Emoji
followed by

WOLF FACE
Unicode: U+1F43A (U+D83D U+DC3A), UTF-8: F0 9F 90 BA
I couldn't figure out how to keep it from copying the extra junk but
those were easily deleted.

Ahh, I think I figured that part out as well. Apparently OSX can get
confused an not know where the character you pick is supposed to go. So
If I start flipping apps and such the special characters window becomes
orphaned. Instead, if I pull up a doc in textedit, get my insertion
point where I want, pop the special character window and find the one I
want in the grid, a VO-space to simulate a mouse click inserts it. You
then need to close the special character window before going back to
your app. If you don't, the next time you do command-option-T it won't
get connected to the current app. A bit flaky but it works. 😀

Also note that for most Windows users the Emoji stuff is just going to
show up as missing font characters.

Camera Announcing Faces

Hey All,
I am noticing that in IOS7, the camera is not announcing faces. Did
this feature get removed, or is it something that I need to turn back
on?
Thanks

Re: Camera Announcing Faces

2013-09-19 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi,
Just check which camera is showing when you flick around. If it says "back
facing" and you are facing the screen, you should change it to front facing. Or
just turn the phone around.
No other settings. Make sure there's enough light in the room too.

Ah, ok. That makes sense. So it's like with the Mac. Maybe it should be labeled

Re: Braille Simulator for Mac

2013-09-19 Thread Chris Blouch
Perky Duck was last updated May 9, 2008 and was written for Mac OS 9.
OSX came out in 2001 and for many years included a "Classic Environment"
that allowed old OS9 apps to run in an emulator of sorts. That emulator
was discontinued in OSX 10.5 which came out in 2007.

That said, apparently Duxbury is not going to update Perky Duck to work
on OSX and I haven't found anything else like it. Seems like somebody
ought to be able to make something like it as a web app.

supported. I'm guessing this is because I am running Mountain Lion and it
expects an earlier Mac OS. So, does anybody know any simulated braille
programs that work on Mac?

Re: How to Use Character Viewer

2013-09-19 Thread Chris Blouch
Ahh, I wasn't familiar with the Japanese Emoji font. I'm assuming you
can just choose the Apple Emoji Font and type the Japanese characters in
whatever way you usually do that. You could also just find the symbol on
a page and copy/paste it. For example, you might poke around here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emoji#OS_X_Mountain_Lion

and find what you want. I'm just not all that familiar with how to type
the Japanese unicodes.

itunes radio and skipping songs

2013-09-19 Thread Mary Otten
I have not upgraded to ios 7, but I did get the new iTunes on my Mac and have
been experimenting with the new radio feature. I thought I read that, if you
subscribe to iTunes match, you not only don't get ads, but you also get an
unlimited number of skips. This later point appears not to be true. Any
conformations or contradictions to this experience?

Also,m I accidentally told iTunes never to play a particular song that I
actually wanted to say "play more like this". I don't suppose there is a way to
undo such mistakes?

Go to dropbox in the status menu. Route your mouse cursor with VO command f5

sitting there with the phone in the same position.
Also, is there a way to get it to anounce faces when in video mode? I've

Re: itunes radio and skipping songs

2013-09-19 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hi,

Nope. you do not get unlimited skips. This is confirmed.

Removing an item from the never play this list is pretty straight forward. Go
to your radio station interact, then go to the never play this table. Now find
the song and press delete.

Oh! by the way, you might have to press VO space on your station before being
able to interact with it.

Re: itunes radio and skipping songs

2013-09-19 Thread Mary Otten
Thanks, Ricardo. I found that table of never play this songs shortly after I
sent my question. I don't know why I didn't see it before, since I had arrowed
across that space, but such is life. I created a station and decided I didn't
want it. Hoped pressing delete would have the same effect that it does in the
songs table. But no luck. Maybe I need to interact down at another level,
although I thought I was as far down as I could be in the interaction layers. I
still think Itunes radio is going to be pretty darned cool.

Rick, I somehow don't think I quite follow you. Are you saying to go to the
status menu, find Drop box, then do a VO+shift+M? That doesn't do it. Neither
does finding Drop box in the status menu, then mouse clicking on it to open the
preferences window menu. Perhaps I misundestood what you were saying; or,
perhaps you mistyped something?

to delete a station completely, navigate to it and then press VO shift M.

Re: itunes radio and skipping songs

2013-09-19 Thread Alex Hall
Radio didn't work well for me when I tested it today. On my iPhone, it went
back and played three songs in a row I'd told it to never play. On the Mac, it
played a song I liked. Just to test things I skipped it using iTunes' "next"
button, and was greeted with silence. I could not get anything to happen after
that.

Accessing the different voices using voiceover and IOS7.

2013-09-19 Thread Jessica Moss
I don't know if this applies specificly to IOS7, or voiceover in general, sense
I haven't done this in ages, but I've just updated, finally managed to I think,
download the enhanced voices, only to find all the available languages, but no
voices associated with them when I select them.
Is there a reason for this? Also, my 4-year-old and I love the new male
voice that Cerie now has, and when I started using it this afternoon, she was
like "again Mama," so I made him talk about 3 or 4 times just to impress her
then had to put a stop to it.
Can that same voice be used as a reading voice? I'm really impressed with it
and would love to be able to if it's available, and would love to see it in the
future if it isn't.

Hi,

I’m thinking its one of those things you can’t stop, you just try to contain it
the best you can. 100 million devices hitting your servers in a tiny timeframe

Automator Action

For anybody who uses Automator, I've developed an action that will send a user
notification to the notification center based on either user input, or output
from another action.
Just thought I would pass it along incase anyone is interested. Here is a
Dropbox link: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/40clp7uf1zu20ei/19cOsB4DPG.

Just open it and Automator will install it to your library.
Let me know about any problems..

Thank you for any help.

youtube video embed problem

2013-09-19 Thread Maxwell Ivey
Hello; for a long while now I've been embedding other people's videos in
listings on my site by going to their youtube page clicking share then embed
and copying and pasting the code into a page on my site. recently people are
telling me that the html code is displaying instead of the video. so my
question is does anyone know why this is happening? also, is there a way I can
download a youtube video and then reupload it to my own account? if i could do
that then I'd forget about the embed code and just add a hyperlink to the
youtube video itself. any help will be appreciated. Thanks, max

iOS 7 and Refreshable Braille Displays

Hi all,

I updated to iOS 7 recently and tried to pair it with my Humanware

Does anyone know anything about this? Any issues with any other braille

Thanks!
