RE: setting mail back to clasic view

There is no view tab.
The only view I see, when I am in the main window of the program I do vo m,

after you press command comma, you need to navigate to the toolbar and interact

interacting with the toolbar. Currently, you can’t find what your looking for

Jed,
Press command comma.
Find the tool bar by doing vo left and interact with it. Then VO right until
you hear viewing. VO space on that. Un interact with the tool bar and vo
right and the option for classic view is the first thing you hear.

Tonidos - Voiceover Compatible Remote Access

2013-07-20 Thread Emilio Hernandez
Hello everyone,

This Message is a cross-post because of its utility.
Tonido is an accessible and free way to move and share files, which is
voiceover compatible for Mac OS X and the iPhone.
The macintosh client resides in the menubar, but the iPhone app is where the
benefits of this app are seen.
The iPhone app recognizes my entire computer and allows me to access external
drives also.
The web site is accessible and making an account took me less than 5 minutes.
The iPhone client will prompt you for the account credentials and a specific
URL, which is necessary to view your computer.
Please note that the URL is going to take the form of
http://username.tonidoid.com. This will need to be entered into the URL section
when logging into your account from the iPhone. (This URL can just be copied
from the Tonido support e-mail you will receive after an account has been
created).
If you Google "tondo" it will be the first link in the results section.

Hope this has been helpful.

How to listen and purchase a ringtone?

2013-07-20 Thread Georgina Joyce
Hello All,

I was on the train the other day and I heard a ringtone I really liked. I've
never looked at purchasing ringtones from iTunes before and I can't seem to
find the way to listen to a sample of a ringtone. I can only find apps to
create ringtones. I'd just rather just buy the one I like. A google search
appears to give lots of Android ringtones of wind chimes and bells. In fact, it
appears that Samsung have provided some.

How do I listen to iTunes ringtones of wind chimes and bells? That is if they
have some.

Thanks.

Re: voiceover on login not working

2013-07-20 Thread Red.Falcon
Hi!
That sounds like you have to unlock the admin so look for the unlock to make
changes and hit that and you'll be asked for your master password and then when
you go back that button should no longer be dimmed!
And when your finished making any changes you go back and lock so changes
cannot be mucked up and other people cannot access your main settings without
your password!

What do you mean, and at what point? You just hit that checkbox, you are asked
for your admin password, and off you go with everything now available. You can
choose to lock things up again by once again checking the box, which will now
be labeled as "click the lock to prevent further changes".

Re: Ten fabulous finder commands

2013-07-20 Thread Steve Holmes
Yes, they can. It's really cool. I had no idea this would work. The video gave
me some skeptical feelings about it but I just went into the finder on my
machine and pressed the suggested modifier keys and the menu option changed and
VO spoke the difference. Even the enter key works when you hold down the option
or whatever key. When I arrowed around in the menus, I used the strait arrow
keys with no VO modifiers; I think this will be very important. It makes me
want to explore other apps and see if similar "easter eggs" might be found.

It is one of the major reasons why I teach my clients to use the VO-arrow
keys to navigate menus. You can see a lot more than you can using only the
arrow keys. The user library in the Go menu of Finder is just one example.

Time and date

2013-07-20 Thread Jürgen Fleger
Hi,
does anyone know how to change the way VO speaks the date and time in the Apple
script used in Keyboard Commander? It sounds strange to hear the english format
for date and time spoken out by a german voice. So hopefully someone can
understand what I mean and can help.
All the best
Jürgen

Pages Help with Show Statistics

2013-07-20 Thread Brian Fischler
Hey all,

Quite a frustrating problem, as this keeps happening. When it works, I can go
to the Edit menu in pages, go down to writing tools and then to show stats.
This opens the inspector where I can view the total number of words to a
document. Well, now once again, I can't get this inspector window to open so I
can see the word count. Any idea why, and how I can get to it another way?
Thanks

A much quicker way to switch tabs where you don't have to stop interacting or
anything is to hit control tab and control shift tab to cycle through the tabs
in a reverse order.

Hello Jürgen,

To make Date & Time speak correctly in German you need to replace the script.
I'm no expert in Applescript so can't help with this.

Re: saving in text edit

I don't recall just where, but you can change that in Text Edit's preferences -
you'll want the "local machine" option instead of iCloud, and then it will work
as expected. Many people want this change, so Google has plenty of articles on
the topic.

I never used that service so cannot help you with any further information but I
do use another service which is configured from the website which is accessible

That would be

They used to be called Dynamic DNS and they used to be free for some services.
They charge now but it is still reasonable. I use them for my machine at home

You might want to use the Talking Dashboard scripts I wrote for this purpose
(among other uses). It has a template, so you can move the month, day, hour,
minute, and a bunch more around to your liking. Grab the zip file from:

Take a look in the readme file for answers to questions, instructions, features
I hope to add, and more, and feel free to ask any questions you might have.

Sure. In terminal, you can type this, exactly as it's written and iCloud won't

defaults write NSGlobalDomain NSDocumentSaveNewDocumentsToCloud -bool false
And press enter. Then, exit terminal and when you re-launch text edit, you'll

Indeed there are, and it's worth a google if you're bored one day. Apps like

Re: Best place to get audiobooks

audible.com and audible.co.uk are both great. You can get a monthly
subscription with each of them which gives you one free book a month. At
audible.com the one book a month membership is $14.95 and at audible.co.uk it
is a little cheaper at £7.99. To buy books outside a subscription it generally
seems cheaper on audible.com, but I now use audible.co.uk as it's only £7.99
for absolutely any book, and I'm happy to get one a month.

Re: mail authentication issue

Hello, gang.

I attempted to reset my mac administration password, all to no avail, it wants
my old password which of course I cannot remember. I tried entering my apple
id, all to no avail. (this is all performed in user accounts) Any assistance

Hello everyone,

I would suggest the table layer which is insert plus space then T. This will
get around the issue with control and option keys. Use your arrow keys to
navigate the table then use jaws reading commands to exit or press escape.

Re: accessing DropBox settings V 2.0.22

2013-07-20 Thread Steve Holmes
Here's another way to open the menu. First, route the mouse as has been
described so far by pressing Ctrl-Option-Command-F5. Then tap the option key
five times to turn on mouse keys. Then Hold down the option key and press the
letter i on a small keyboard or the #5 key on the numeric keypad of a full size
keyboard. When that is pressed, the menu with 10 items should pop up in a
second or two. At least it did that on my system. Be sure to hit Option five
times again to turn mouse keys back off and after that, you can move up and
down the dropbox menu as desired.

Re: unable to erase .trashes on thumb drive

2013-07-20 Thread Steve Holmes
Another way to clear this out is if you have a Linux machine some place; just
mount that drive on the Linux box and rm -fr the folder and it won't care. I
realize you might not have that option available to you but I do and it came in
handy to do just that and additionally go after files on a broken windows
environment by mounting that drive.

I wonder if one could rm the .trashes folder from a terminal on any mac.

Re: Your First Mac App (Voiceover and XCode)

2013-07-20 Thread Steve Holmes
I want to personally thank you for the tips and references you have offered
here. I'm an experienced programmer though I have barely touched programming
with xcode. I have one of those books I recently bought for introducing iOS
programming but I think I would rather start with something on the Mac first
and then move to an iOS environment. Anyway, there's a bunch to learn here. I'm
anxious to move away from mainframe programming as that has been a dieing
profession for years.
