Re: FaceBook app?

2013-05-14 Thread Krister Ekstrom
Hi,
There is also Menu tab pro which looks very much like the NewGenBook extension
only it's an app, so no need to go into Safari for your facebook stuff, plus it
can show you both the mobile and the full site. There's also Friendly for
Facebook that looks a lot like Menutab, but it doesn't sit quietly in the
background like Menutab.

Re: Can anyone recommend a scanner for scanning books.

2013-05-14 Thread Annie Skov Nielsen
Hi Erik.

This is interesting.

I will have to buy it from the U.S., so I will need to know a little more.

Can I scan multiple pages and save as 1 tif file, so that I can scan it with
abbyy finereader pro if needed. Has anyone tried the hover cam with prizmo.

How is the scan quality?

Best Annie.

Re: Can anyone recommend a scanner for scanning books.

2013-05-14 Thread Donna Goodin
Hi Annie,

Just one thing to think about. If you scan a lot of books, I would get a fast
scanner with a good document feeder. this means you'll have to remove the
binding from the book, but you can then put it in the scanner and walk away.
With the hover cam, you would have to stand there and turn the pages, which can
chew up a lot of time. I'm not sure of a specific brand to recommend, I've
always liked Fujitsu scanners, but I don't think they work on the Mac. I have
an Epson GTs-450 that I like a lot, but it has the drawback that it only has a
document feeder, so you don't have a flatbed to use if you don't want or can't
chop a book.

Just something to think about.
Cheers,
Donna

I have this message already, and I have the phone number to which I want to
send it. How can I tell the Mac to send the thing? I can't even find the option

Look at your apps folder, and you should have the Messages application there.
You may have to set it up for yourself first.

Re: Sending a message on the Mac

2013-05-14 Thread Kawal Gucukoglu
No problem with messages on the Mac either sending to I phone or Mac. search
for contacts, interact with contact information find the number or E-mail. Make
sure that I phone number is registered to I message once you have set up I
Messages on your phone. Do this by going in to messages on your phone, find the
ID and make sure your E-mail is registered as well as your phone number then
can send messages from the Mac to a phone number which is registered to your I
message account.

Re: Can anyone recommend a scanner for scanning books.

2013-05-14 Thread Annie Skov Nielsen
Hi Donna.

You are right.

But I can not remove the binding, I can not get the equipment that can do it. I
am not able to do it by hand. I think the easist for me would be a camera
scanner. I am also getting a lot of books from my local library, I don't think
they will like getting the books back without binding.

Cheers Annie.

The trick is to have your e-mail or phone number set up universally across your
devices, as well as knowing which contact the recipient uses for iMessage. If

1 Password Safari Extension installation

2013-05-14 Thread Matthew Campbell
Hello everyone.
Has anyone gotten the 1 password safari extension installed successfully? I've
tried on two different Macs, and get either VO going busy, or VO loosing speech.
Can anyone shed some light on this rather annoying problem? BTW, I've sent an
email to Apple Accessibility detailing the problem.
Thanks all,
Matthew Campbell.

This seems to be the case with any Safari extension. Generally I try hitting

to confirm. But it's just a shot in the dark.

Re: What is best way to join to mp3 files together please?

2013-05-14 Thread Chris Blouch
If you don't mind playing around with terminal and MacPorts you can get
the free sox audio manipulation tool. Then you could just do

sox audiofile1.mp3 audiofile2.wav output.aiff

Which would concatenate the first to files and store the output in the
third file. It also does lots of other manipulations such as changing
the speed or applying EQ. More info on sox can be found here:

http://sox.sourceforge.net/sox.html

and a tutorial is here:

http://billposer.org/Linguistics/Computation/SoxTutorial.html

another tutorial is here:

Hi, Annie and others. I should point out here, that with a camera scanner, the
camera just snaps a picture of the page(s), so if you have say a 200-page book,
you can snap a book in about 10 minutes or so. Just a thought.

I didn't know about camera scanners.
I have an HP scanner in which each page has to be scanned separately
and with a lot of care. So, it's a rigorous and time-consuming
process.
Are camera scanners as accurate as traditional scanners?

Re: Can anyone recommend a scanner for scanning books.

2013-05-14 Thread Annie Skov Nielsen
Hi Cawal.

As far as I have tried the pearl is not very good.

I have on the other hand tried a zoomex that is pretty nice.

The hover cam would be cheaper, and it can be used with more OCR programs.

Yes it would be rather quick to snap pictures of a book, if the camera works
and makes clear pictures.

I could use my iPhone, but I can not find a program, that can make a multipage
tif file.

Cheers Annie.

 Hi Annie,

Just one thing to think about. If you scan a lot of books, I would get a
fast scanner with a good document feeder. this means you'll have to
remove the binding from the book, but you can then put it in the scanner
and walk away. With the hover cam, you would have to stand there and turn
the pages, which can chew up a lot of time. I'm not sure of a specific
brand to recommend, I've always liked Fujitsu scanners, but I don't think
they work on the Mac. I have an Epson GTs-450 that I like a lot, but it
has the drawback that it only has a document feeder, so you don't have a
flatbed to use if you don't want or can't chop a book.

 Just something to think about.
 Cheers,
 Donna

Re: question to ask all of all of you

2013-05-14 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi Becky
Pages offers several ways to save your files. After you have your file and
you're ready to save it in another format, press the voiceover keys. That is
the control and option keys together with the letter M as in menu. Press the
right arrow key until you hear file. Then go down arrow Until you hear export.
Press the right arrow key and you will see several choices. The first one is
PDF works the next is word for the next is RTF later next as plaintext the next
e pub.

Re: question to ask all of all of you

2013-05-14 Thread Israel Antonio
Becky,

I know of two ways in which you can save files in other formats so others can
read it.

when ready to save, you can press Command+Shift+s and you can arrow through to
save in Word format.

You can also call up menu bar in Pages, navigate to "file" then arrow down to
"Export." When you choose Export you'll be given 5 choices of formats in which
you save your file. PDF, RTF, Word, Plain Text, and EPub. Select which one
you want then select "next" I believe is the option which takes you to another
page to save in whichever name you wish to give your file.

I believe that is correct. If not, someone on this list can correct me if
I've given inaccurate or incomplete instructions. I hope that helps.

usb not visible

Why is it when I unplug my USB , I receive a warning about finding it first and
hitting eject?
However it does not show up anywhere?
If it is plugged in the back of my iMac or keyboard, there is no difference.

Re: Can anyone recommend a scanner for scanning books.

2013-05-14 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Annie,

If you can find a flatbed scanner large enough to take a double-page of any of
your books, VeuScan will allow you to automate the scanning process with its
Repeat function. You can set the timing to suit your scanner. It's still pretty
time-consuming, but it's quicker than scanning using ABBYY FineReader and you
can feed the resulting file to FineReader for its excellent OCR. I also press
down on the centre of the book I'm scanning and the results are almost perfect.
I don't think there's a quick solution if you can't remove the bindings and use
an automatic feed.

For the iPhone, TextGrabber can concatinate multiple pages now, and I think the
new Prizmo may be able to do the same. If your book can fit into the StandScan
Pro when opened out to show both pages, Prizmo can do a good job. I can't
remember whether I've tried this with TextGrabber, but I'd think it might be
possible.

Cheers,

Anne

Re: usb not visible

2013-05-14 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

If the device is not showing up on your Desktop, then it is likely in the
Sidebar of open windows. Myself, I prefer to have all internal and external
HDs, connected Servers and other ejectable media to be visible on my Desktop.
It's just what I got used to in the old days of the MacOS. You can set these
preferences by going to your Desktop then pressing cmd-comma which will bring
up your Finder Preferences.

removing email from server via IOS mail app

2013-05-14 Thread Phil Halton
I have a pop email account with Comcast, and I want to setup IOS mail to remove
messages from the server when I read them so that when I check my mail from
windows outlook express, I won't see those same messages again.

Outlook express removes the messages, but I can't figure out how to get IOS
mail to do the same.

in the IOS mail settings for comcast, under advanced, I see two settings that
look promising. The first is under the "deleted messages" heading, and the
setting says "after one week". other options are "never", "after 1 day", and
"after 1 month".

The other setting is towards the bottom of the advanced settings page, and says
"delete from server". I have it set to "when removed from inbox", and the other
choices are "never", and "7days".

When I check my mail from the iPhone, I get all my messages, and delete them
after reading them. Then later, when I check mail from windows outlook express,
I get all the same messages that I deleted on the iPhone. But, when I first
read them from Outlook Express, then check mail from the iPhone, all those
messages are gone since OE deleted them off the server after reading them.

How can I get them off the server after reading them from the iPhone?

Re: removing email from server via IOS mail app

2013-05-14 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

It sounds to me that you have your settings set correctly. I don't use PopMail
anymore so can't check it myself on my iPhone but according to Apple's support
article at

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3228?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

it looks like you've done it right. Sometimes, things don't delete as quick as
they should from servers, especially from iOS connections. Sometimes, iOS
access is routed a little different than from a Desktop unit so things don't
happen as promptly as they should.

That's the best explanation I can come up with for now. If you continue to
have problems, post again and I'll dig deeper.

Later...

Some prizmo questions

Hey guys,
I just got prizmo installed. I figured I would start out with a simple
printed letter that I got.
I couldn't find any text, now I know there is stuff there.
So my big question is, what's the magic secret, how far do you hold the
phone away from the document, doc placement, etc, any ideas?
