you could use Quicklook for this. Just press CMD + y while you're sitting on or

Or you could save the pdf file on your hard drive via the menue. Then you can
read it as usual.
All the best

backing up files from my Mac to dvds

2012-11-28 Thread Cheryl Homiak
It has been quite a while since i did backups to dvd of a lot of my media files
and also various document files so I have decided to do a complete new set. In
the past I have kept the text and document files separate from the media files
and have figured out which files can fit for each dvd and then I have run the
burn. None of these files are in iTunes. I want to know if there is either a
way on the Mac or an accessible program I can get to automate this process as
far as filling up dvds. In other words, I'd like to be able to pick out the
folders and files I want to burn and then I'd like to be able to start the burn
and have the first dvd fill up and then be told to insert another dvd to
continue instead of having to figure out the logistics of each dvd myself. Is
there a way to do this?

Thanks.

Re: odd thing with voice over in mountain lion

2012-11-28 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

There are applications that run in the background upon startup such as
Authentication, WIFI Agent and more. These applications are core services
sorts of things and VO recognizes that they are running when it first turns on
but they are not apps that you normally access in cmd-tab or Application
Chooser methods. It's not necessarily a shortcoming, it's just usually a
consequence of VO starting up prior to everything else finishing in the
background.

Internet Sharing Issue

2012-11-28 Thread Gavin Grundlingh
Hi all,

I'm experiencing a strange problem with Internet sharing in Mountain Lion
10.8.2. Even after enabling the Internet Sharing check box in the services
table and making sure I've clicked the lock to make changes, all the controls
appear to be dimmed. I watched a YouTube video that said reordering my
connections in network preferences would solve the problem, but no such luck.
Does anyone know what I'm possibly missing? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Re: Twitter

2012-11-28 Thread Chris
I don't know much about accessibility on the mac except to say in
Mountain Lion it is possible to add one or more Twitter accounts and use
the Notification Centre found in the Extras menu to post a tweet as well
as receive notifications similar to what you would receive with the
official Twitter app for iOs. Finally there is a very good, free and
fully accessible Twitter client for the mac called Nightowl or
Yorufukuru. The interface may remind you of The Qube or Qwitter for
Windows. You can find this on the Mac App store.

yes you can drag and drop with voiceover but the problem is voiceover doesn’t
talk once you turn on the musical typing keyboard because then what ever

from time to time what is attached. If it doesn't recieve a return signal
instantly it does it again and/or waits for a determined time before
allowing an application to resume activity.

If this is the case, any return signal is not being generated by the
monitor but the circuit is made at the socket and passes it back to the
mac. It would then in principle be possible to find the wire pairs in the
vga socket and make the return circuit absent a monitor.

Re: odd thing with voice over in mountain lion

2012-11-28 Thread Mike Arrigo
Agreed, in previous versions of the operating system though, the number
of running applications was correct. Not a big deal, I was just
curious, I may look in to which application is doing this when I have
time. It could be the notification center, that's one thing that was
introduced in mountain lion. Even still, mountain lion is a great
update. I'm so glad the safari busy issues are finally gone, that's an
issue that was long over due to be fixed. Also, we can now access all
items in the status menu, again, a long standing issue.

Original message:

Hi,

There are applications that run in the background upon startup such as
Authentication, WIFI Agent and more. These applications are core
services sorts of things and VO recognizes that they are running when
it first turns on but they are not apps that you normally access in
cmd-tab or Application Chooser methods. It's not necessarily a
shortcoming, it's just usually a consequence of VO starting up prior to
everything else finishing in the background.

Hey everyone, noticed something strange in mountain lion, wondering if
anyone else is noticing this. When I start up my mac and get to the
desktop, pressing control option F1 says that there are 2 running
applications, yet if I press it again, it only shows the finder in the
menu. I have nothing in my log in items and am not running any anti
virus software. I've checked my processes and everything looks like
system services, does anyone else notice this?

Having been able to still see a little back in 2009 I used Zoomtext

mac with voiceover or PC with Jaws. I went with the mac, so I never
have used Jaws, that being said, I am not an expert on screen readers

google issue. Honestly, I could care less if it is Google or Apple and
safari, I just want it to get better, or at least figure out a work
around. I tried what was suggested, but couldn't seem to get google to
change from all times to last 24 hours or last week, I ended up using

Anybody here installed Windows on a Bootcamp without sighted assistance?

2012-11-28 Thread Victor Tsaran
Hi all,
Trying to install Win7 on a Bootcamp partition on my Mac Mini, however,
understand that the sighted assistance may be required.
I've gotten as far as partitioning the disk using the Bootcamp Assistant. My
Mac restarted and then I am not sure what the sequence should be after this. I
tried pressing ENTER a couple of times hoping this will accept Windows
installation defaults but nothing of the sort took place.
Unfortunately, I have to figure out how to install it on my own because I have
no screen attached to this machine.

Any clues?

Thanks for any help.
Best,
Vic

UbiDisk

2012-11-28 Thread Chris H
I thought I would pass on information about the below app. I'm telling
you now it's awesome! Read on to find out more!

Ubi disk seems to be a great app.
you can even use it to replace the zero Tap App.
incase you dont know, zero tap allows you to transfer text from the PC
to the zero tapp app on the iPhone so you can copy to the iPhone's
clipboard.

Ubi disk does this and more.
get the PC desktop program from their website to transfer files from PC
to iPhone,iPod.

Re: Anybody here installed Windows on a Bootcamp without sighted assistance?

2012-11-28 Thread Cameron Strife
Hi. Ah, okay, so you have a solution for selecting the proper
partition once the windows seven installer launches? I'd be very
interested to hear what that is as I've had no luck figuring that out
yet and that includes trying to use an unattended install file with no
success.

Once partition selection is done and the ula is accepted, you can run
narraotr to finish the setup process. That's all well and good, but,
it baffles me that they would not make sure that the first one or two
screens of the freaking installer were accessible with narrator...
Thanks Microsoft.

Cameron.

Stay tuned!

Re: backing up files from my Mac to dvds

2012-11-28 Thread Chris Blouch
So if you have everything you want to burn in a folder, what happens if
you pick that folder and then choose Burn To Disk from the file menu?
It's been a long time since I used CDs or DVDs for backups but I vaguely
recall that it would spread what you've got over multiple disks. Worth a
shot. At worst you waste one piece of media finding out. If you're
interested there are unixy ways to compress everything into one big file
and then split it into chunks that fit whatever size media you are
using. At some point though your time might be more valuable than the
cost of media and you should just do time machine to some external
storage. I found an external USB 500GB drive here for $50:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/836243-REG/Hitachi_0S03452_500GB_Touro_Mobile_USB.html

That starts encroaching on the media cost of a few spindles of DVDs, not
to mention avoiding a lot of hassle.

figured out the issue with voice over saying the wrong number of apps in mountain lion

2012-11-28 Thread Mike Arrigo
If anyone is curious, I was able to figure this out. Even when I only had
finder running, voiceover would still say there were 2 running apps. The
notification center is considered an app, even though you cannot command tab to
it, or select it from the dock. Since I never use this feature, I used an
application called cocktail to disable it, now the number of running
applications is spoken correctly.

Thanks much.

Actually I'm doing Time Machine and superduper though I'm a little leery of
Time Machine now because last time i wanted to restore it cranked away for a
few hours and then announced it couldn't restore from that backup. But I'd also
like some backups that are something other than external drives. I know iTunes
will spread a playlist over multiple cds but I'm not so sure about what happens
if you try this from finder. But you are right: I can find out for the price of
one lone dvd.
