Re: menu tab for facebook?

2012-09-24 Thread christopher hallsworth
Yes, I use the app and it is great. One thing I cannot figure out is how on
earth do I search for friends? I see the search, but it is impossible to select
it with VoiceOver. I think this is the design of the mobile site though, rather
than an issue with Menutab. Saying this as I can duplicate the issue in Safari
unless I change the user agent to Firefox for example. Thanks for any help on
this. Much appreciated.

If you want to quickly go from OS 10 to Windows you probably need VM
Fusion. When you use Bootcamp you must shut the computer down in one
and bring it up in the other. Bootcamp can only run one system at a
time.

I use Bootcamp all of the time but you can't rapidly go back and forth
so she should probably have both options and decide which she likes
best or when to use either option.

iOS 6 news

2012-09-24 Thread Chris
Disable Siri in the Passcode Lock settings if you don't want strangers
to use your phone while it's locked.

Elinor Mills
by Elinor Mills
September 24, 2012 8:07 AM PDT

The latest version of iOS lets you use Siri to send Facebook posts and
Tweets even if the device is locked.

To block the use of Siri on a locked device disable the feature in the
Passcode Lock settings.

(Credit: Jessica Dolcourt/CNET)

Upgrading to iOS 6? Be careful about leaving your locked iPhone
unattended unless you change some settings. Otherwise an unscrupulous
stranger could order Siri to send tweets and Facebook posts from your
account that you didn't make -- even if your phone is locked.

Apple has added the ability for Siri to interact with Twitter and
Facebook from the lock screen, just like you can use Siri to send text
messages and e-mails and make calls on a locked device running iOS 5. If
you don't want Siri to conduct these sorts of activities while the
device is locked, you have to disable Siri in the Passcode Lock settings.

I'm not trying to scare anyone, but many people may not know about this.
It's convenient to be able to use Siri without typing in a passcode, but
if you're prone to leaving your phone where others could have a go at it
without you around, you should know about this feature.

RE: running windows along side the mac

2012-09-24 Thread Paul Hunt
Hello everyone. There's no question about it, Windows runs faster in
Bootcamp for me. I also don't have problems with loss of Software
activations in JAWS. Also, the Focus USB Braille displays work properly. I
couldn't get them running in VM Fusion.

True, but if one is having problems with VMWare, Bootcamp can be an
accessible solution. Windows also seems to run faster under Bootcamp.

Windows7 bootcamp installation guide

2012-09-24 Thread Phil Halton
Would anyone on list who has installed windows7 via bootcamp care to write
up a little guide for those of us who are about to take the plunge? It
wouldn't have to be anything too elaborate. I'd just like to know what I'm
getting into before wading in. Particularly, what is the step-by-step
procedure, and at what points will I be in need of sighted assistance? I
plan to install windows 7 64-bit edition on a late 2011 iMac QuadCore I5
with 8gb ram and 500GB HD.

Is this something I can do without sighted assistance?

Thanks for any help.

Math and VoiceOver on the Mac

2012-09-24 Thread John Panarese
Hi guys,
I was just asked by someone about using VoiceOver and math. This person
also has a Braille display. I'm afraid my days of doing math are long behind
me for school. This would be college algebra and the like. Does anyone know
of an application they could recomend for the Mac and VoiceOver. Also, are
there any problems handling equations with VoiceOver and the Mac?

Re: removing preview pane

2012-09-24 Thread Veronica Elsea
Just one slight addition here. Make sure that you double-click the trackpad or
else nothing will happen. When I did it, VO didn't have anything to say, but
when you do VO left or right arrow, it will say different things than what
you'd heard previously. And it turns out that I had disabled the preview pane,
but it came back with the most recent update. So upon repeating these actions,
surprise! VO began announcing the unread status of messages properly again.
yay! Hope this helps.

2012-09-24 Thread Ioana Gandrabur
Hi,

May I offer an alternate method that works in ML but didn't work in Lion.
In the old instructions after vo to the vertical splitter and routing mouse to
it you do not have to perform the physical click (at least not I). I performed
VO Shift space twice rapidly. VO announces "collapsed". IF you stop interacting
with the splitter and vo right you should reach the horizontal one and preview
should be gone.

Re: seeing to whom an email was addressed?

Maybe you have message headers set to none in your view options. Try
interacting with headers and pressing Option shift h to show all headers. It is
a toggle so you can hide them again afterwards.

Facebook Integration in 10.8.2?

2012-09-24 Thread Teresa Cochran
Hi, folk,

I'm a little confused. I think I saw in the description of the most recent Mac
update that there is Facebook integration. I can't seem to find it, however.
Anyone know where it is?

Thanks,
Teresa

Skiping empty fields in contacts found a sollution

2012-09-24 Thread Ioana Gandrabur
Hi,

Someone wondered a while ago about how to avoid flicking through all fields in
a contact and viewing only the ones containing data. I accidentally deleted it
so cannot reply directly to it.
Here's how to do it.
After selecting a contact in the name table VO left to the contact information
group. Interact and VO right to the "contact information scroll area". Interact
here and you will only find completed entries.
If you do want to open card in new window with command i or to edit it with
command l you will see all fields so you can quickly find what you want with
item chooser. YOu can also customize the template of fields shown by default in
a card. Go to contact preferences and select the template tab.
hth,

Ioana

You need to activate Facebook in System Preferences in the Mail, Contacts
and Calendars pane. You will add your Facebook account and enter your account
info. Once you do this, there will be a, Post, button next to the, Tweet,
button in Notification Center and you will find, Facebook, in the share popup
menu for applications like, Safari.

Math is inherently visual, and I don't know of any programs even for Windows

such was being developed at one point.

Hopefully others will have more positive news.

The only thing I would think to try would be to produce equations linearly with
Braille contractions turned off. It wouldn't be the Braille Nemeth math code,
but it would be computer Braille.

Re: running windows along side the mac

2012-09-24 Thread Chris Bruinenberg
I believe that you will need a license for both systems.
I can try to create a podcast of steps.
but here is what i remember.
1. have your windows disk ready.
2. Go to utilities and bootcamp.
3. start bootcamp and it will walk you through a wizard.
It will ask you if you want to create a windows partition, and download drivers.
note: you will have speech with voiceover with this.
After you download the drivers and make a dvd or cd of them, you will need to
have sited assistance.
It will ask you how large you want the bootcamp partition to be.
I think you have voiceover support here.
It is a slider to adjust how large the mac partition is vs. the windows
partition.
You will not be able to undue this option without re-installing again.
Then the computer will reboot and you will have to click next and i accept.
It will ask you if you want to do a custom install or upgrade. i always have
chose custom.
Then it will ask you where you want it installed. Hit bootcamp and advanced.
This is very important.
Now hit format. and next.
Now the computer will go to work, and will restart a few times.
You will need a usb audio device of some sort. or you can have sited assistance
with the setup screen.
Next make sure to have that cd or dvd of the drivers. you will be able to use
the function keys just like in Mac os.
Hope that helps anybody.
Feel free to email me with further questions.

Thanks.

If you want to quickly go from OS 10 to Windows you probably need VM
Fusion. When you use Bootcamp you must shut the computer down in one
and bring it up in the other. Bootcamp can only run one system at a
 time.
