Plast Creation Question.
Hello everyone, I have a quick question. I have created a playlist from which I wan to display two genres. When adding the first genre everything displays fine, but when I add the second, voiceover announces the table is empty. When removing the second genre from the playlist, the first criterion is displayed correctly. Moreover, I have created a separate smart playlist with just the second genre I attempted to include in the first playlist, which displays fine. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can remedy this issue, or provide feedback about something I am missing? P.S. I am not getting any sort of conflict error when trying to combine the two genres within one smart playlist. Thank you all - happy Saturday. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: right or left mouse button
Hi, with voiceover, you can bring up context menus with VO shift M. In certain instances, you need to be interacting with the object to bring up the context menu for it. For example, you need to be interacting with the media table to bring up the context menu for a song in iTunes. to do a left mouse click with Voiceover, press VO shift space bar. There will be some times where the voiceover commands will not work. If you have a Apple mouse or, trackpad, you do a right mouse click by pressing control and clicking the trackpad or mouse. hth Ricardo Walker rica...@appletothecore.info Twitter:@apple2thecore www.appletothecore.info On Jun 22, 2012, at 11:01 PM, Gerry Cook wrote: > Hi everyone I hope your having a nice day where ever you are, and whatever > your doing. on the mac i wonder if you can do left or right mouse button like > you do in windows for contextual menu and activating a programme thanks. > > -- > You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups > "MacVisionaries" group. > To post to this group, send email to macvisionaries@googlegroups.com. > To unsubscribe from this group, send email to > macvisionaries+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com. > For more options, visit this group at > http://groups.google.com/group/macvisionaries?hl=en. > -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: VMWare Fusion questions
Hi fusion folks, Today I went from fusion 3 to 4. Before you do this yourself, and if you're still thinking whether or not to do it, here are some thoughts before you begin. 1. Last week, I bought fusion 4, while I had v3 running. After upgrading from fusion 3 to 4, which is possible using an app inside the fusion 4 disk image, fusion asked if I wanted to upgrade my virtual windows machine from version 3 to 4, to add more features and speed to it. I answered yes and it went ahead. When it booted though, the desktop did not come up any longer. My wife told me there's a message saying this and that could not be found, and in short I had severe windows problems after upgrading the vm from v3 to v4. Of course this doesn't have to happen to you, but before trusting the upgrade process, I would suggest you backup your entire system. Or, at least have your windows stuff safe so that you can access all of it outside windows. 2. So I started from scratch. I uninstalled fusion 3, using the uninstaller that is in my applications folder, and I then installed a fresh fusion 4. After entering my serial number, I had a blank configuration to start with. The fusion 4 installer is very accessible and straight forward. 3. Now here's the good news. I used an i s o file, which is just a disk image file that contains the entire windows installation cd. I followed the command n new virtual machine wizard. It asks for either a windows installation cd or a disk image iso file, so I gave it that. You enter some other minor necessities, and then windows is installed in 15 minutes or less, without any sighted assistance. That was also true in fusion 3, but it always remains to be seen in newer situations. So accessibility remains the same while installing windows, comparing fusion 3 and 4. 4. I had problems with my screen reader, which is an old one, called hal, from Dolphin oceanic limited. After installing my screen reader, which worked just fine under the same version of windows on my fusion v3 installation that I have used for over a year now, it complained about video problems. To compress this story: I saw other folks having issues with jaws in the same upgrade situation. A solution that worked for me, is to downgrade the file format of the virtual machine, from version 4 back to being fusion 3 compatible. You just interact with devices in the fusion 4 toolbar, interact with the scroll area where it has all settings, and almost at the end there, you have a compatibility button. Behind it is a dialog with radio buttons, that tell fusion in what file format you want to store the virtual machine on to the mac disk. If you set it to 3, rather than fusion 4 compatible, then if your jaws worked earlier, it may work just fine again. I don't know much about authorisations, but video wise, the problems may solve themselves. Downgrading your virtual machine from the fusion 4 format back to the 3 format, takes away newer video functions, returning you into an older type of emulated hardware. I hope this can help other people who have problems after upgrading their fusion from v3 to v4. To be clear, you can easily keep running fusion version 4. It's just that you need to roll back the file conversion process, or if you have the choice and you know what you know now, just don't let fusion upgrade your vm. Just a thought. And if you do, have a backup handy. If it does work for you and you are now running a windows screen reader using fusion v4, and also the v4 compatible vm file format, then please post back on this, so we can learn from each other's experience. Re: IPhone mailbox creation
Hi Kawal, I went to my I-Phone mailbox list of mailboxes page where I see: Inbox folder, Drafts folder, Outbox folder, Sent folder and the Trash folder. I also see three buttons on the bottom of the I-Phone screen: Refresh, update and compose. I see no edit button on this page. However, there is an edit button at the top right of any of the individual folder pages listed above. What am I missing? Re: VMWare Fusion questions
Hi. In regards to the upgrade process, I didn't have any issues when I did this a year or so ago. I am using NVDA as my windows screenreader and everything when very smoothly. So smoothly in fact, that it is what made me purchase the Fusion 4 upgrade in the first place. In regards to the video issues, I use NVDA and as NVDA has no video intercept, I have never gotten video intercept issues. I stopped using Jaws about a year ago because of similar issues as well as they're insane licensing scheme. I'm not going to go on about such a licensing scheme because that would be getting off topic and would be insulting users of jaws. It really is a shame that Fusion is our only option for accessibly installing windows in a virtual environment on our Macs. Parallels and VirtualBox would both be great options if they'd just do some work and make they're apps accessible. Have an awesome weekend everyone, Matthew Campbell. Re: Plast Creation Question.
Hi, If this is a Smart Playlist, then what's happening is that your playlist is trying to match both criteria. This can't happen as you can't match the Jazz criteria "and" match the "Rock" criteria at the same time. If you stop interacting with the Rules Criteria area and VO-left, you will find a Match pop-up. Change this pop-up from "All" to "Any". Now, when iTunes is determining what to put in the playlist, it would select either Genre 1 "or" Genre 2. That should do it. HTH. Later... Re: right or left mouse button
Hi, General info about mouse actions on the Mac: 1. Using VO commands: • Left-VO-space: Performs the default action on the item such as open file, press button etc. • VO-shift-space: Simulated left mouse-click. Some situations don't accept the simulated click though so an actual one must be performed. • VO-shift-m: Brings up the Contextual menu like a right mouse-click. This is, again, simulated so doesn't work in all situations. Note that VO, of course, must be active in order to use VO commands although the opposite is not true. That is, you can use regular MacOS mouse commands even if VO is on and they will behave as normal. 2. MacOS mouse actions that a sighted user would use: • Left mouse-click: One finger press on Trackpad or one finger press on the left side of a multi-button mouse. • Right mouse-click: Two finger press on the Trackpad or one finger press on the right side of a multi-button mouse. If you don't have a multi-button mouse or have your mouse preferences set differently, you can hold down the Control key at the same time as a one finger press on the Trackpad or one finger press of the mouse. Note that Apple's Mighty-mouse with the 360 degree scroll ball has touch technology whereby it doesn't physically feel like it has a left or right side but if you do a one finger press on the left side of the mouse, a left mouse-click is performed and alternatively a one finger press on the right side of the mouse will initiate a right-click action. Accessibility fragmentation and facebook on the Mac
Going to the main Facebook site on the Mac seems like an increasingly frustrating and pointless exercise. As I read through the list of status updates, VO's focus is repeatedly jerked around, often moved back to the top. Chat seems totally unusable as well. As a result, when I want to check Facebook, I wind up using my iPhone This points out a problem that seems to be getting worse lately. There's no easy way to browse most websites with one web browser. So I end up using my Windows virtual machine for some tasks, my iPhone for others, Webkit/Safari on the Mac for others, and occasionally I'll use Chrome/Chromevox. I understand that this can be true for sighted people to some degree since some sites just function better with certain browsers, but issues like the lack of flash support with VO and Facebook's constantly changing interface have made it much more of a problem for blind users. I am curious what the other users on this list think of these issues and what their primary web browser is in the Mac operating system. Re: Accessibility fragmentation and facebook on the Mac
Facebook makes extensive use of changing the layout when you move the mouse around. By default on the macintosh, the mouse follows where the voiceover cursor is, so everytime you read a new post facebook changes things a bit. I believe what it is doing is putting a large copy of a persons cover picture in the upper left corner of the screen. It might also move the text focus to the "add a comment" area of the post where the mouse is over. This would also change the voiceover cursor location. I suggest a separate VoiceOver "activity" profile for facebook and equivalent sights. It is usually enough for facebook to just turn off mouse follows voiceover cursor. Another useful tip is that Facebook puts all of the status updates as Heading level 6. So hitting vo-shift-u and finding the header picker and then typing a 6 to reduce down to just heading level 6 will let you quickly scan through status updates. Re: Accessibility fragmentation and facebook on the Mac
Facebook is quite accessible on the mac, but I'm totally with Erick. It does take a lot of effort, way more than probably needed, to get used to. I can get it to work in really anything that uses the Safari framework web kit. This means, Safari, Chrome, without mind you Chrome vox, Lightning works good with it for what it's worth, and of corse web kit itself nightly build works fairly well. I've seen the focus issues you're talking about Erick. What parts exactly are you finding to lose focus. Here is a little tip for ya. if you're talking about when you go to comment on a status, once you type the comment, don't? tab! What ever? you do, don't? tab, or hit vo+anything! If you do, you're gonna lose focus. Amost guaranteed. Instead, to post, just hit your return key. I don't think in the latest FB update that you can do carriage returns anymore, so return'll just post. You could try, ctrl+return, or option+return, but I don't think those'll do it. Yeah, it'll word wrap on its own, sure, but I'm saying, if you literally wanna manually make a return.
