Re: From iDisk to SkyDrive
Hi. I used to have a Live Drive account and have just downloaded the app for the I phone. As far as sharing goes here are the steps. 1. Put a file in public folder. 2. select file to share and attach an e-mail. 3. Once mail is sent, the person who receives file gets an notification. 4. Person gets directed to a link and before they open a link, they get given a password as you can secure a file for that's person or not so then no password is needed. Mark, if I have these details wrong, please correct as things may have changed as I used this software almost two years ago. Kawal. On 24 May 2012, at 06:30 AM, Ray Foret Jr wrote: > Cool. With the end of iDisk, Apple's cloud storage system that came into being during the Mobile Me era, slated for June 30, 2012, I've been searching for another cloud storage system that works equally well with iOS devices, Macs, and Windows PCs. I am delighted to report that Microsoft's SkyDrive is now completely VoiceOver accessible and allows access to the SkyDrive directly from Finder in OS X and from Explorer in Windows 7. The iOS app is VoiceOver accessible, simple, and easy to use. Microsoft SkyDrive offers 7GB of free storage space, 2GB more than does Apple's iCloud. To those who may not know, iCloud, in its current implementation, does not allow for non-iWork documents and/or non Apple file syncing nor does it allow for direct access in Windows Explorer. In short, iCloud, unlike iDisk, is not meant to be used as a remote hard drive to which you may place any kind of file. To get SkyDrive on the computer platform of your choice, you will need to download a free Microsoft utility that simply configures your chosen system to see SkyDrive; it does not add any overhead to your device unlike other free cloud storage options. To get started, visit the app store on your iOS device and type in SkyDrive or, from your favorite web browser in the OS of your choice, go to http://skydrive.live.com If you don't already have a Windows ID, you will need to create one. Kapten GPS
Hello all, During my recently-concluded trip to the States, I spoke with a blind individual who mentioned in passing that he used a navigation App called Kapten GPS. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to find out how well the App worked for him. In the App Store, I found an App called Kapten Europe GPS Multitransport for 5.99 Euros, but I have yet to determine whether or not this price includes the map updates. It probably does not. Has anyone ever tried out this App, and how were your results? Thank you very much, Mike -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: Kapten GPS
Hello Mike, I've used this app and the price you see is for one month. I think the lifetime price is about ten times the monthly price. The app is good for planning routes that include both walking and using public transport, but I don't find it to be as good as Navigon for giving turn-by-turn directions at the right time. I haven't bothered with it for a year or so. Also, it hasn't been updated since November 2010 which is a bit disturbing. I like the combination of Navigon and Ariadne GPS. Navigon runs happily in the background with Ariadne as the current app. Cheers, Anne On 24 May 2012, at 10:11, Mike Busboom wrote: > Hello all, > > During my recently-concluded trip to the States, I spoke with a blind > individual who mentioned in passing that he used a navigation App called > Kapten GPS. Hi, all, I just updated the firmware on my Focus 40 Blue to 4.57. It seems everything is working much better, but with the most recent Lion update, some keys are not mapped in USB mode, such as dot 3-chord for delete. Re: From iDisk to SkyDrive
Hi, I think pricing is one small difference. Tech News Today talked about these services a few weeks back, but of course they were not concerned with usability from the blind user perspective. I use DropBox exclusively, and most heavily on the windows side, and find it suits my needs. Interesting question, though. It would help to know what other viable options exist. Re: Focus 40 Blue Has Stopped Working Well in USB Mode
Yes I did. I was not able to assign any new keyboard command and that frustrated me very much at the beginning. However, I managed to solve that problem by deleting the device and reinstalling it again. That worked in my imac but I am not sure if it will work for my new macbook pro since I have just tested the focus in Bluetooth mode. In the imac I was able to assign new keys that had no function the first time I used the focus. However, I've got no idea about the dot 3 deleting function. ideas for good podcasts on everything Apple?
Hi listers, I already have some 5 podcasts that I like, about Apple and accessibility. VoiceOver on used to be one. The tech doctor podcast is one that I love, because Robert has so many interesting people he's talking too, I have a feed from John Panareese, and 1 or 2 I don't remember now. Of course Vision Australia, David Woodbridge is very informative. What I would like to know about, are more podcasts, hopefully to be found on itunes, or a url to some, that talk about Apple, VoiceOver, iPhone and related stuff. The blind community produces much and most of it is interesting to say the least. Applevis I follow as well. If you have any more feeds you would like to share with me and the list here, I hope you will share those. Many of us follow podcast feeds on our phone or computer, so maybe it's a good idea to mention them for others to benefit. Reading continuously in documents
Hi Folks, I was having a discussion with someone recently and they asked me a question I did not no the answer to. In reading documents continuously that have been created in Windows either using Pages or Text Edit, the reading seems to stop at the end of each page. However, documents created on the Mac read continuously without pausing. Does anyone know the technical reason for this? Re: ideas for good podcasts on everything Apple?
Hello: Though I know that this is an english speaking list, I wanted to share a podcast that we make on Apple stuff in spanish, because we know that there is not so much information on in this language. This is why we started to produce this podcast, Macneticos Podcast. You can find it in iTunes as Macneticos podcast and the URL is: www.macneticos.libsyn.com. Hope it helps somebody! Converting wma to mp3 and playing on Downcast
Hi all, First, apologies for the cross posting. I've tried to resolve this problem, but I can't seem too, can anyone help? I have four wma files which I now can play on my mac using quick-time/perrien However, I really want these folders (audio) to transfer to my phone, in a podcast style. However, I can't change them to mp3 or m4a. When I try to export them into m4a to subsequently add to itunes on the Mac it says this media must be corrupted. It's fine. I tried renaming them as mp3 but that didn't work either. Then I thought that if I tried exporting them from my dropbox app on my iphone into downcast that might work, but of course, they are still in wma and I can't get them to play there. How can I get them into itunes so they will sync to my phone? How can I get them into mp3 or m4a so I can if nothing else put them through downcast and dropbox and get them on that way? Can anyone help? I need simple instructions, cos clearly I can't get it to work myself ... Thanks. In reading documents continuously that have been created in Windows either using Pages or Text Edit, the reading seems to stop at the end of each page. All2MP3.zip
Hello everyone, I am not sure if anyone has heard of this conversion program, but for those wishing to convert files from m4a to mp3, this will work wonderfully. I just did a test run, and it is to my knowledge, as far as I have used the program, accessible. You can search for the program via Google, or I can e-mail off-list a link to download the file directly. The program is spelt: "All (the number 2, not the word) mp3." Hope this helps someone - cheers. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Seems like VLC should be able to do this. I was able to play the file with VLC but I couldn't get the transcode feature to work. It's possible. In fact, quite likely, yes. I just did some experimenting and I am seeing the same things. I doubt that. Its not Apples style. You will need to type in your Apple ID password before making any purchases from the store. RE: From iDisk to SkyDrive
Hello Klifton, I have 25GB of disk space on my Sky Drive but new users, I believe, will only have 7GB. Now, as for opening a document. 1. Open your iOS SkyDrive App. Navigate until you find a document and double-tap to open it. At this point, you can read the document. In the reading mode, there are no controls on the display. To show app controls both at the top and the bottom of the display, including the option to go back and to open the document in another app through which you may edit the document, simply double-tap the center of the screen. Please note that the controls will remain visible or actionable for about 2 seconds during which time, if no action is taken, they will once again, disappear. Keep in mind that if you want to edit a document, then you must first have an app on the iOS device capable of editing the document; in my case, for example, Pages or ePrint.
