Re: i messaging app on the mac?

2012-05-07 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hi,

This is true but, she also needs to assign an e-mail to her iMessage account on
her phone. For example, ones iCloud e-mail or apple ID. But of course any
e-mail will do. I would use whatever e-mail she uses for her apple ID or, her
iCloud e-mail. This is the e-mails you need to use to set up iMessage on the
Mac so, I would stay consistent.

Re: Setting to not automatically add files to iTunes library.

2012-05-07 Thread Krister Ekstrom
Hi Ray,
I can see where you're coming from, however i like ITunes, both the player and
the library part, just because ITunes tries to be smart and organize things for
us. By doing that, it allows me to find a special album and a special song,
something i've never been able to do in my previous stereo hifi days. Now, i
have full control over what i play. However, having said all that, i think
there should be an option to play a song without necessarily having to add it
to the library, and also i would love to be able to point ITunes to a folder
with music in it, and have it play randomly without adding stuff to the
library. I think though that both the library and the non-library option should
exist. Thereby you could make this great big giant a bit more flexible.

Apparently this does work but there could be files left behind. Go to the

Re: Disableing the lock screen in Lion

2012-05-07 Thread Sean Murphy
Hi Mike,

To disable the screen saver you have to make sure your screen saver icon is
showing in the preference. If you open the menu, then go to view. Select custom
and make sure everything here is selected.

Then go to screen savers. Change the period of the screen saver to what you
want. I have set my to never. So I never get a screen saver and therefore never
get the locked screen.

Everyone else has given you the other tips. If I had the spare time, I would
write a how to.

Re: drop box

2012-05-07 Thread Maria Chapman
hi. to find your drop box folders, at least this is how i do it.

open anything you like in finder interact with your side bar using vo j arrow
down to drop box then press vo j again to get in to your drop box folders. The
only thing i am not sure how to do is check on the progress of a file that's
being uploaded or downloaded. use growl to get notifications of things being
added to your drop box.

Re: Excedingly odd and frustrating problem filling out WEb nform at snapple.com

2012-05-07 Thread Brent Harding
The one I hate the most is with one of my bank accounts where any checkboxes
or radio buttons on their site are universally invisible, using the activate
command really does nothing. It is this way on Windows as well, but when I
saved source on one with no sensitive info on, the html file I got's boxes
spoke, but those do no good as one can't submit the change I want with a
local copy. It'd be difficult to tell what they did wrong to tell someone,
if there is someone who would care about it.

i'm glad you figured it out. I don't know as much about coding forms as I
should, but i believe its a matter of how they created it and labelled it.
i have a similar problem with a classified site. I can fill out everything
but the section where you add photos. There is no way to tell voiceover how
to find the button. this is because it is improperly labelled by the
website creator. I've brought it to their attention several times, but I'm
the only blind user they have so you know what has happened. smile. take

Yes, I found it easier to go to the webVisum website instead of going through
the extensions area within Firefox. If you don't have an account at WebVisum,
I'd suggest setting that up with Safari running first.

Curious trash/deleted mail issue.

2012-05-07 Thread ShamelessFanGirl
Hello Listers,

My issue is this: each time I perform the cmd/shift delete command to empty my
trash in mail, it seems not to take. In other words, I can continue doing that
command all day if I desire, and it will behave as if there are messages to
delete. All three accounts are gmail, and when I go to deleted messages/trash,
these tables are empty of messages. Bizarre for sure, and I'm curious what, if
anything I can do about it, and/or if any of you have seen this before.

Thanks guys, and have a good one

yes, you can. in most of the popular sites, you find an option to try
an audio capture. you will listen a few numbers or, in some cases,
words along with a lot of background speech. you should be able to
type only the numbers that you hear.
I would suggest you use headphones while doing this for better results.
I would like to add to the question.
I often don't succeed in entering the words or numbers successfully.
well, am I not so good at it just yet, or are there any tips that
 would make this process easier?

Re: free m4a to mp3?

2012-05-07 Thread Chris Blouch
Right, if you already have the track or tracks in iTunes, just set mp3
as your encoder of choice in preferences and then chose Create MP3
Version from the advanced menu. If all the tracks in a folder need
converted you can just do Command-A to select all and then convert them
in a batch.

Hi Stacy
I have recently purchased a very accessible mp3 converter called
"mp3 converter" from the app store. It was about $5 NZ so not
expensive. You have to go into the app, add the files you want to
convert and it does it. Very easy to use and not expensive. It
takes all sorts of formats and converts them to MP3. You can't
just point at a file and do the convert from there - you have to
go into the app itself to do it but it does a nice job with lots
of sample rate choices. And you can do multiple files at once.

This is a great thread but I must say that I still think it would be

I like it a lot, but frankly, I would not need it if the Voice Over key could
be assigned to the caps lock key. It is a matter of keeping my fingers on the
home keys. I'm much faster on the keyboard if I can just leave my fingers on
the home row and type away. But with Voice Over keys needing two fingers I
just can't do that. Further on the portables VO keys are only on the left side.
this forces me to do all kinds of finger contortions to do a simple command.
I'm glad Voice Over gives us lots of ways to do things. I use them all but,
every 6 months or so I write to accessibility@@apple.com and ask please please
can I have the caps lock key assignably as the VO keys? It would be great to
have this be one more VO option.

It was a thread like this one that caused me to purchase a full size keyboard,
so I could use the num pad commander. This helped a great deal. Still it is
time for me to write my next reminder to apple!

Re: backing up iPhoto library?

2012-05-07 Thread Chris Blouch
I suspect the exported versions of the images are much smaller than the
original if it dropped from 115GB to 10. iPhoto adds some metadata stuff
but that's just indexes and things so the bulk of the files should be
the photos themselves. Maybe you have a lot of edits? In any case, I'd
still go with the 115GB copy to be sure you have everything.

As far as time to copy, how are you moving them over? On Gb Ethernet I
hit speeds of 70-80MB/s, depending on how fast the two computers are.
Wireless I get 3-10MB/s and Firewire 400 I get about 35MB/s. I haven't

Another thing is, when I copy the iPhoto library istead of exporting, it takes

True, there might be some other folders in there, but they will be a very small

So if you just want a backup and to do it manually when needed then you can
just copy the iPhoto folder to your backup location and you're done. No need to
export stuff or do other fiddling. Next thing to figure out is how you're going
to move them and that depends on how they can be connected. If the destination
machine is a laptop you can put it in target mode and just use it like a big
expensive external hard drive and copy the iPhoto library to it. If it's on a
network you can share the backup machine's hard drive, mount it on the machine
with photos and then copy the iPhoto library to it. If that's wireless then it
could take a while depending on how much stuff there is. You might think about
going wired temporarily just during the copy to speed things up. Then you're
only limited by whatever network hub you use. If the machines are close
together you could even connect them directly to each via Cat5 and share over
that at Gigabit speed, which is basically faster than most hard drives can go.

The Export option that you chose will have most likely changed the quality of

As Chris mentioned, the best thing for you to do will depend on what your

Re: how to save audio from youtube

2012-05-07 Thread Esther
Hello Rahul and Alberto,

You can save downloaded YouTube videos in either audio-only or video formats
that can be transferred to your iPhone or iPod Touch by using the dirpy web
site:
http://dirpy.com/

This site will either let you paste in a YouTube URL or do a search for a
YouTube video by keywords, and will offer you options for adding mp3 tagging
and selecting start or stop times for your audio or video downloads.

Since you're both relatively new list members, this is also a good time to
point out that you can find a lot of useful information by searching the Mail
Archive secondary archives for this list at:
http://www.mail-archive.com/macvisionaries@googlegroups.com/

Type your search terms into the text box and press "return". You'll be
presented with a list of results with links to individual posts along with a
couple of lines of the surrounding text followed by a link to the author's
name, like doing a Google search on the list archives. However, there are a
lot of other useful search features like support for wild cards (insert an
asterisk symbol in the middle of a word, if you want to look for alternate
spellings, or are not sure how it was spelled), search by author or date,
sorting by time instead of search relevance, etc.

Try typing "dirpy", spelled "d i r p y", without the quotation marks into the
search box, press return, and you'll pull up six results. Activate the link
for any one of these to read the post. If you want to read the previous posts
in the thread, use the access key combination of Control+p for Safari. There
are access key combinations for all browsers and platforms, so if you were
using Internet Explorer you'd use Alt+p to read the previous post, and Alt+n to
read the next post in the thread, or Control+n for Safari,

If you want to search by author, you can add the keyword "from:" and then type
in the name of the author after the colon, like "from:Rahul" or, in the above
example, you could type into the search box "from:Esther dirpy" (without the
quotation marks) to look for posts that I authored that match your search
keywords. Or if you want to force the results to be listed in time order
instead of relevance, you can add the terms "sort:newest" or "sort:oldest" to
your search string. These search strings can appear in any order, so you can
make any modifications or refinements to your search by either typing or
deleting from the end of your search box text, then press "return" to run the
new search.

If I want to copy and paste the relevant post into an email message, I'll copy
the web page URL by pressing Commmand+L to navigate to the address bar and
Command+C to copy the URL address. Then I'll use Command+Tab to switch
applications to mail, and paste in the text into my mail message.

For example, here's the link to the post about saving video in .mp4 format for
the iTouch:
• "Re: accessible youtube to mp3 converter"
http://www.mail-archive.com/macvisionaries@googlegroups.com/msg58375.html

The Mail Archive address brings up a web page of the most current 2000 posts,
ordered by thread. (I used to use this to check list content when away from my
computer, before access to the iPhone, etc.) You can change this to view post
in their posted order by pressing Control+I. Here are the main access key
commands:
Control+n (Next) Later message by thread
Control+p (Previous) Earlier message by thread
Control+f (Forward) Later message by date
Control+b (Back) Earlier message by date
Control+i (Index) Chronological index
Control+c (Contents) Thread index

For more information on the Mail Archive search options, see their Web site FAQ:
http://www.mail-archive.com/faq.html#search

This information now also applies to the viphone archive, which just recently
started archiving posts at the Mail Archive. The Macvisionaries list archives
go back to December 2005 (for the first "disc...@macvisionaries.com" list) and
to February 2009 (for the "macvisiona...@googlegroups.com" list). To search
for any other mailing list archived at the Mail Archive web site, just type in
the address you use for posting after the initial:
http://www.mail-archive.com/

For example, the viphone list archives can be found at:

Re: accessible blogging tools

2012-05-07 Thread John Panarese
Hi
I use Mars Edit quite effectively. It's very easy and straight forward.
You can compose or edit posts and pages and upload material to your blog. The
developer is a great guy who is quite aware of accessibility. I can't
recommend the application enough.

Take Care

Re: accessible blogging tools

2012-05-07 Thread Matthew Campbell
Hi John.
I'm composing a post in Mars Edit and am having an issue.
When I interact with the HTML content area, I get a scroll area. Interacting
with that gives me a scroll bar and a bunch of empty text areas until I've come
to one thing I've made in to a link.
Do you know what might me going on here?
Thanks for any assistance.

Sysdiagnose Folder Keeps Opening Spontaneously In Finder

2012-05-07 Thread Teresa Cochran
Hi, all,

This problem is driving me slightly bonkers. I go on my merry way doing various
tasks on my Mac Mini, and Finder pops up with Sysdiagnose folder open and a
file highlighted. This causes VO to lose focus on whatever I'm trying to
accomplish at the moment.

Does anyone have any ideas? I have not a clue what to do from here.

Thanks,
Teresa

Re: defining single key for vo keys?

2012-05-07 Thread Jürgen Fleger
For me it wasn't helpfull to have Caps Lock as the VoiceOver key. Aspecially
because there are many other key strokes that were much mor complicated then.
For example all combinations with VO and CMD and Shift would be much more
complicated to handle. Actually I can only immagine a few helpfull combinations
where I just need the VO keys only. I work with a combination of keyboard
shortcuts, quick nav and trackpad. That works fine for me.

All the best
Jürgen

Re: ColorVisor, color identifier for iPhone

2012-05-07 Thread Jan Blüher
Hallo Cheree,

programming a new web site creator is a lot of work, which I guess a lot of
people are needed for. Maybe one should try to make an existing one accessible.

Greetings

Jan
