Hi Jenny, There is nothing wrong. Your twitter timeline is stored on twitter and each time you refresh the buffer, the timeline will come back. You don't need to worry about trying to delete it. Please help.
Hi all, I have run into a huge issue. I'm unable to remember my password, and when I go to put something in the trash such as an application it wants a password. How can I reset my macbook so that nothing needs passwords? I'm running snowleopard. Help says I need to run the install disk, but I didn't get an install disk with this machine as it was a refurbished machine. Is there some way I can get the media I need and then make a disk and then run it? Thanks, Stacey and GEB dog Chesley. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: Replacing an ordinary hifi, but with what?
hey, I am not sure how big of a system your looking for but I have a few suggestions. First off if your just looking for a single room system and want to use airplay , i would suggest geting a airplay enabled reicever like the pioneer vsx 1021 k and just get the speakers you want , or a single powered sspeaker that I heard had good reviews was the zeplin air I forgot who made it but its supposte to be pretty good and you can get multipule ones and have music in different rooms , however you can only play the same music on all the systems . Finally I will suggest what I have done , first off check out www.sonos.com this is a wireless system that conects to your network but creates its own designated mesh network for stereo . So you have a few options to run a setup and I will let you check out the website for all there products, but I will just tell you what I have set up now . I have 5 sonos play 3 powered speakers and a bridge. the play 3 speakers are about 7in wide, 6in deep and 4in tall , I have one in 5 different rooms in my house and can play music from my itunes library and a ton of other music services like pandora and spotify , etc. You can play different music at different levels in each room just using a iphone app. YOu can also control all stations from computers, I devices, android devices . I mainly use my Iphone and its pretty accessable , I can choose songs and control volume etc right from my phone and the ap can be closed when you dont need to do anything with it . The sound on the play 3 s are pretty good its a smaller version of the play 5 . And if you want to check out the play3 or play5 systems I know best buy and target sells them or you can get them right from theere sight. Let me know if you want any more info about it . jason Apr 17, 2012, at 4:52 AM, Krister Ekstrom wrote: > Hi good people. > I'll soon be moving and starting a new life in a way. Re: I thought I had reply to sender figured out but I guess I didn't
Hi Jenny, First, let me try and explain once more, how to reply privately; at least, how it works on my system and I just practice the steps a few times to be sure things would behave consistently. To begin with, I am not in classic view but I don't think that will matter for message replies. When I open a message for reading, I do not interact with the message text itself. I find it sufficient enough to just use the arrow keys like in a text editor to read the message contents. When I want to reply privately to someone on this list at least, I do the following: 1. Use VO-Left arrow key to hit the message headers group; note it says groups so will need to be interacted with. 2. Use VO-Shift-down_arrow to interact with this group; important: do this twice in succession. 3. You should now be sitting on text for the message header fields. This is where I did run into some possible confusion. Use the VO-arrow keys to move around and make sure you are positioned on the contents of the "From" field. So an example would be your specific email address if I were replying to you privately right now. 4. Press VO-Shift-M to open a context menu; you should get seven items showing. 5. Arrow down until you hear "Reply to sender" and hit VO-space. Once or twice I ran into a situation where the context menu did not include the reply option; nut exactly sure why this happened but I just used VO-arrow keys to move around and re-select the email address and did it again; it worked that time. Fwew! what a lengthy explanation but I hope it is clear enough for you. Now for classic mode, do the following: 1. press Command-comma from within the mail app to open the application preferences. You may land directly on the check box which will be to enable Classic mode. 2. If this does not happen, then you are probably on a different set of options. To change this, use VO-arrow keys and move left to find "Tool bar." 3. Interact with this tool bar and choose "Viewing" end select with VO-space. 4. After having pressed that button, you should be positioned on the Classic mode check box. Toggle the box according to your wishes. 5. Close the preferences dialog and go on your way. not necessarily. Re: I think I got it to classic view in email, now how to reply to sender using this view?
That won't work on many email lists because the reply-to value is often set for the list itself. She is trying to reply privately to the original sender. I see that my message went into the bit bucket or something. I wrote a nice long explanation on how to reply and to get into classic mode. Let me look for it and see if I can resend it. I don't wanna to have to retype all that material again. Re: Please help.
Hi Lew, Scott, Stacey, and Others, Yes, it's possible to reset the master password from the command line without a set of the install CDs or DVDs for your operating system. Scott is correct that if you do this from the Terminal command line while you're logged in, you normally have to put in your admin password. However, another way to accomplish this is to boot into single user mode and perform these actions. This is a special startup mode that allows you to do trouble-shooting and doesn't bring up the full system. The issue is that this means you also can't bring up VoiceOver, so you should do this with sighted assistance. What you will be doing is typing in a command that removes the database entry telling your Mac that the initial account setup was done. Then, when you reboot normally, you can enter the information about master password, etc. as though you were booting for the first time. I'll let Lew handle the explanation about how to go through that stage to preserve current account information in the reboot. Here's a link to a MacOS X Daily article that describes the process: http://osxdaily.com/2010/08/10/forgot-mac-password-how-to-reset-mac-password/ Although there are only three commands to be typed after you boot up in single user mode, by holding down the command key and the "s" key just after hearing the power up self test sound after pressing the power button, you have to type them exactly. And you either need to wait for a while to make sure your machine has completed the boot up, or have someone who is sighted tell you that you've gotten the prompt that shows you can start typing. Then you need to type the commands with all the special symbols like slash and the hyphen switches, and press return (also known as "enter" by Windows users) after each line, so you should read the entries character by character. Specifically, the command to run the filesystem check should have the option characters "f" and "y" after the hyphen; the mount command should have the option characters "u" and "w" after the hyphen, and then there should be a space after these switches and a slash character. The slash indicates the top level directory. The ".AppleSetupDone" file that you remove has a period at the start of the name to indicate that it is normally a "hidden" file that does not show up in Finder. You may not have to capitalize the "A", "S", and "D" in the name for the file, but I've typed this exactly the way the file is named on a Snow Leopard system when viewed in Terminal. Then, after you've typed the three commands, you type "reboot" (without quotation marks) and press return to reboot your machine normally. When you reboot you go through a new setup, but you take care not to create the same user account that would overwrite your present account. Then, in the third stage, you can either use the Admin privileges of the new account with Admin password to give your existing account Admin privileges and reset the password, or you can leave your account without a password and use the new Admin account and its password when you need to perform system installations. Here's the pasted in section from the article: Stage 1) Boot into Single User Mode and remove a setup file • Restart the Mac holding down the Command+S keys, this will take you into Single User Mode and it’s Terminal interface • You’ll need to check the filesystem first: fsck -fy • Next, you must mount the root drive as writeable so that changes will save: mount -uw / • Now, type the following command exactly, followed by the enter key: rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone • After removing the .AppleSetupDone file, you need to reboot, type ‘reboot’ and hit enter Stage 2) Create a New User Account upon System Boot You aren’t finished, but the hard part is now over – no more command lines, you’ll now be in the familiar Mac OS X GUI to finish the password reset process. In this step we just create a new user account as if you just got a new Mac: • Upon reboot, you will be presented with the traditional “Welcome Wizard” startup screen just like when you first get a Mac • Follow the welcome wizard and create a new user account – making the account name different from the account whose password you want to recover • Continue on and boot into Mac OS X with this newly created user account, this new user account is an Administrator and has administrative access Stage 3) Reset the Forgot Password via System Preferences You are almost done, now you just need to reset the forgotten user account password using the Accounts control panel: • Once you are booted into Mac OS X, click on the Apple logo and then navigate down to “System Preferences” • Click on the “Accounts” icon in System Preferences • Click on the Lock icon in the lower left corner of the “Accounts” preference window and enter the newly created u

exactly the info I was going to refer to, though my concern for stacey is a question of having the support and competence to perform this, this particular set of instructions, if done incorrectly can cause harm to the overall stability of the OS, hence, as you say, sighted assistance to do this. the other part to this but not attached to this matter is if you visit your supplier, explaining that your system was not provided with system disks, you, more than any sighted user need the installation media if something goes wrong or you need to diagnose a problem with voiceover outside the normal parameters of the OS. basically, make sure you ask for the installation CD for snow leopard so that any further work can be done, they should also be able to help on the password recovery. stacey, good luck. esther, thanks for the write up, you've saved me a headache lol. lew On 22 Apr 2012, at 19:07, Esther wrote: > Hi Lew, Scott, Stacey, and Others, > > Yes, it's possible to reset the master password from the command line without > a set of the install CDs or DVDs for your operating system. Returning to a old stereo
Hello Listers, I'm having a lot of trouble getting my head around the new surround sound systems. What I think might work best for me is to find a older powerful stereo receiver or receiver and amp that I can plug my computer directly to and perhaps also connect a airport express or Apple TV. I don't own a TV and don't enjoy listening to TV or even movies very much. I do love solid strong clear stereo music. So If anyone else out there can advise me here is what I've done so far. I've contacted a electronics repair center and asked them to keep a look out for a solid older system. I would like 200 wats of power and old fashioned controls. Here are some concerns. Would the Apple Express give me air play in the best way or would a Apple TV give any advantages in this set up? Could I run a sub woofer from a older system like that? Any tips on what system might work happily with my Mac? Finally, I'm not avers to using a newer unit but am totally baffled by all the stuff on the remote and all the TV related stuff. Is there a retro receiver out there or a new one with old fashioned capability? My Mac is my entertainment center at this point but I'd love to get better sound then I currently have. eRic Caron -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. if you just want surround sound and nothing else, you're using your mac as your main media source, the surround sound controllers on the market can automatically handle setup for you, as long as you send your main signal from the mac to the source, it should all go pretty well. I recommend Sony for their quality and accessibility. Re: Cannot get this computer to stay with the oldest to newest message preference
Jenny, Try this. Press VO-comma to get into the application preferences and make sure you're in the Viewing pane. Hint: the first option there will be to toggle Classic mode on or off. In this pane, VO-rightarrow all they way through the options until you get to a checkbox that says "Show most recent message at the top." Uncheck this item. I have it unchecked on my system and my oldest messages are on top and my newest messages are at the bottom of all my lists. Right now, I don't know where any sorting of ascending/descending options are but this checkbox item should do it for you. Hello listers, I am taking on a project that is mosty likely over my head, but I think it is worth it in the long run. What I am trying to do is make a guide for using Voiceover on the iDevices, I want to make a version of the user guide that can be read on any device or computer but I want it to feel like a book and not just another word document, is there any accessible book creation software out there that will allow me to put said book or guide in a format that can be read by all devices and computers? Re: How do you find out if there are twitter feeds from the LDS church?
You could possibly do searches on the Twitter website and look for any names with LDS or mormon in them. I know Tweetlist for IOS devices has a search feature to to find entries to follow. I haven't tried yorufukurou yet on my mac. You should also try search terms in twitter in case prominent LDS tweets contain any. Search terms begin with the pound sign (#). I would think terms like #LDS or #mormon might be off to a good start. Also, I would be surprised if the Church doesn't have a Twitter link on the website http://www.lds.org/ Hope this extra info helps. Drop box question.
Hi everyone! Okay, making progress. Last night I installed Drop box on my Macbook air. I have to say, wow was that install easier than it was on my Windows 7 machine! It all talked very nicely. Okay, now what? On my Windows machine, the install just put a shortcut on my desktop, I entered on it and there were my folders. On the Mac, I went into the Applications folder and found Dropbox in the table. I've tried Command-O and VO-space. It just says drop box has no windows. The only thing I can do at this point seems to be to command-tab back into the finder and close the window. I can't find anything on the dropbox wweb site about differences in using it on the Mac. Any suggestions? Much appreciated. Re: Please help.
Hi Stacey, I just reread your first post. Let me first ask whether you can currently log into your account without a password. If so, when you put something into the trash, or perform other actions that prompt you for a password, can you simply press the return key (also known as the enter key among Windows users) in response to the prompt? You said, "I'm unable to remember my password", which implies that you did set up a password at one time, or that somebody else set one up for you. If you set up a password, then continue reading for a VoiceOver-specific explanation of how to perform the steps in stage 3. As Lew stated in a later post, and as Scott stated previously, the best solution is to get a copy of the installation media. It may be that this was not included in the cost of the refurbished machine, although I thought that refurbished machines purchased directly from Apple do include the installation CDs and DVDs. If this was a machine that the authorized reseller refurbished, they might not include the installation media, especially if they refurbished a machine that was sold to them or traded in by a user who had lost the installation media, or had upgraded the system. In that case they might offer to sell you the Snow Leopard upgrade discs for $29.95 as an alternative. That Mac OS X Daily article I linked has a later section explaining how to reset the password if you have installation media, and I think several list members can walk your through the process. With the installation media you can use VoiceOver throughout the process. You can also probably go to the Genius Bar of your local Apple store and have them perform the password reset for you, if you have evidence that you purchased the machine. I can detail the exact instructions for the third section using VoiceOver, but as Lew said, you should really have sighted assistance when you do part 1. I'd feel happier if you had access to the install media -- maybe by borrowing a copy of the Snow Leopard upgrade discs from a friend or acquaintance OK, here's how you would do the third section with VoiceOver. After creating a new account with Admin privileges in section 2, boot up your Mac and log in with the new Admin account that you created. You'll use your Admin privileges in this new account to reset the password on your original account. These instructions assume that you have started up your Mac, and selected the newly created Admin account, and logged in with its password. 1. Press VO-M or Control-F2 to navigate to the Apple menu on the menu bar 2. Arrow down and quickly type "s y" to navigate to "System Preferences…" and press return 3. In "System Preferences" navigate to the "Accounts" button and select this with VO-Space or by simultaneously pressing the up and down arrow keys if you are using Quick Nav mode. You can probably use your tab key to move through all the controls to the "Accounts" button. Otherwise, use either VO-Right arrow (or just Right arrow in Quick Nav mode) to navigate. You may have to interact with the preference panes scroll area before continuing to navigate to the "Accounts" button. If you are using TrackPad Commander, you can flick right to the navigate, and interact with a two finger flick right on the trackpad. Stop interacting with a two finger flick left, and select with a double tap on the trackpad. 4. On the "Accounts" pane navigate to the "Click the lock to make changes" button and select this with VO-Space. You'll be prompted in a dialog window for your password. Type in the password for your newly created Admin account and press return to unlock the button. This will change your button label to "Click the lock to prevent further change". Your Accounts pane is now unlocked, and settings can be changed. 5. Navigate to "Accounts, groups and login options" and interact. (If your focus is on the "Click the lock, etc. button, you can VO-Up arrow or Up arrow twice) to reach "Accounts, groups, and login options", then interact. 6. Navigate to the account whose password you want to reset and highlight this. For example, if I want to use this method to reset the password on one of the "Test" accounts I've created, I'll navigate with VO-Right arrow or Right arrow to "Test", route my mouse cursor to my VoiceOver cursor with VO-Command-F5, and click with VO-Shift-Space to highlight "Test". 7. Stop interacting with "Accounts, groups, and login options" 8. Navigate with VO-Right arrow or Right arrow to the "Reset Password…" button and press it. 9. In the dialog window, type in a new password in the text field for new password, then retype the same password in the text field for verify. Also supply a Password hint to help remember the password (not necessary, but recommended.) Then navigate to and press (VO-Space) the "Reset Password" button to have this take effect. 10. On the "Accounts" pane, navigate to the "Click the lock to prevent

Ester, Thanks so much. Since you said I can use VO throughout I will try and get a copy of the disks somehow. Hi all, Thanks to everyone. Esther, pressing enter solved the problem. All's well now and I'm going to look into getting a copy of the Snow Leopard cd. Thanks again to everyone. I've never heard of that program or ap. Can you explain what it is if it works on the Mac. I books versus books you can get for the I phone.
Is an I book for the Mac more accessible than an ap that you could get on the I phone. Is it the same thing. I saw something on a site that has I books, but when I used their I phone ap, the books weren't accessible at all. Any help would be appreciated. thanks, Jenny -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. WoW update
Hey ya'll I have a little bit of an update on how the World of Warcraft stuff is coming along We will start with the good stuff the go to the bad. It is very easy to get partnered up with someone else and follow them around to complete quests. With just a few easy macros set up by someone with sight is is easy to attack targets and cast the required spelld and so on. There are addons that will play audible noises when your health is low or when you have debuffs and things like that. Here is the bad and the most limiting. I haven't yet found a way to make the menus accessible. There isn't a way to accept or turn in quests or do simple things like log out. Once you have logged on once you can do it again simply enough but there isn't a way to change realms or create new characters. I have a friend who is totaly blind who lives in the UK who plays however. Now I can't get him on the phone to answer question but apparently he uses Microsoft Narrator and does everything on his own including accessing the menus. I am hoping to test this soon off of my wifes computer but as of now I can't find a way to do it at all. JAWS and the Mac Voice over cannot access any of the buttons and labels at all once the game is launched. I'll will write another email once I get more info. cheers!! Re: I books versus books you can get for the I phone.
bvCheree Heppe here: The IBooks app is downloaded through the app store. The books through that resource which I cannot read are those made th a group called Instructables. They have lots of graphics and virtually no words and their cookbooks and craft books are useless because of this. I have gotten one book from the app store that is not on IBooks called The Nebulae Coat that was really good and readable as well. The other sources, some of which are on the app store tend to be less readable and non-readable. I have no experience through Amazon's E-resources. Just chicken, I guess. I haven't yet made my threatened move into a MAC, probably will be an Air, so don't know how that works. All my IBooks reading has been on either the IPhone or IPad. I am actually going to have to go up a gig or two the next time I upgrade my phone. Running out of space for music and books. Re: I books versus books you can get for the I phone.
Well, I have to give up the I phone cause I only have a 3GS, and every time I upgrade the IOS it crawls along slower and slower, even with the compact voice. I'm reluctantly going to the android thing, but I'll keep my 3GS incase it doesn't work out.
