No. I mean in VoiceOver Utility, in the Navigation category, where you have
things like Initial position of VoiceOver cursor, for Mouse pointer: you should
have the Mouse pointer: pop up button set to Ignores VoiceOver cursor. I find
VO to be more stable this way.

Re: Found this from Apple on Minis

2012-02-24 Thread Eric Oyen
sounds like it is time to give the corporate offices a call. Apple is normally
a good company to deal with (or it was when steve jobs was around).

one of the other things you can do is find the phone tech support line and
start asking for a supervisor. you start going up the chain far enough, you
will eventually get to someone that has authority to tell the bottom tier to
properly deal with you.

Re: whats the advantage of two cursors in amadeus Pro?

2012-02-24 Thread Ray Foret Jr
I agree. You could, of course, Join the Amadeus Pro mailing list also. You
sign up for this like a forum, but, you can use it via regular e-mail. It
doesn't get all that much traffic but it's useful. As for the app itself, at
first, because I was unfamiliar with Amadeus Pro, I too questioned whether it
could or would meet my needs. Most of them it meets very nicely indeed. I do
the recording in Amadeus Pro, then, using RX plugins, I remove the clicks and
pops from vinyl records and do denoising also. IN short, if I'm going to do a
vinyl record album, I can do everything I need to do from inside Amadeus Pro
from the recording, to the click and pop suppression, to the denoising, the
editing out of side changes and then splitting up the file in to individual
tracks and burning the lot directly to a CD; and, mind you, all of it from
directly inside amadeus Pro.

Re: amadeus more tracks question

2012-02-24 Thread Ray Foret Jr
IF you mean that you want to listen to the part of the file over which you want
to place your voice fragment, just rout the insertion point to the spot you
want and then press the space bar. Then, if you are usign version 2.0 or
later, paste over has now become a nice dialog which lets you duck the volume
of the track over which your voice will be placed. You can also set the fading
in and out times in milliseconds. IF you want or need to select individual
tracks to lisen to, that depends on whether you have more than one stereo
track. IN either case, you need to interact with the scrole area and then you
can use VO+up or down to focus on a track, then, make sure you press the escape
key before you start working with it.

weird problem with braille display

2012-02-24 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi guys.
Before I write Apple about this, I would like to know if anybody else is having
this problem. That way, I can sort of determine if it's my braille display or
the way I'm pressing the keys on the keyboard.
I have a Focus 40, but it's not Bluetooth. Although it seems a little better
since the firmware update I did yesterday, when I write in grade 2 I get
reversals. That is, I can type two or three letters or contractions, and when
they are translated, they are reversed. For instance, just now I type the and
sign, and when it came up on the display, I got the letters nad instead of and.
The other weird thing is that letters or dots are not always input. Like I can
type the letter n like I just did and I'll get the ar sign or I'll type a word
and one of the letters will be missing. I just had to put the m back into the
word missing because it wasn't on there, even though I typed it. Is anybody
else having this weird problem? If not, what do you guys think I can do about
it? Should I take the braille display off VoiceOver somehow and then put it
back on?

Regards,
Gigi

Safari Bookmarks question

2012-02-24 Thread Sarai Bucciarelli
Hi guys:
I have some Safari bookmarks questions.
1. What is the difference between the Bookmarks menu, and Book marks bar?
2. Using the Bookmarks bar, how can you order your bookmarks so command 1-9
will open the bookmarks you want in the order you want?
3. I have iCloud on a MBP, iPhone 4, and iPad2. When I made bookmark changes on
my iPad, they only reflected on my Mac, not my phone. My iCloud settings are on
on all devices, and syncing Bookmarks is checked. Any thoughts?

Hi Gigi. I've not had that problem. I have the Focus 40 BT. I am having issues
deleting characters on my Mac Book Air but it works fine on my iMac. I'm going
to explore this problem over the week-end.

Oh yes, I'm going to write to the developer. Who knows what the next update
brings. But what I like better on Mac developers than on them for Windows is
they seem to be more open to the needs of the customers. Very often it is
possible to find their ear. ;-)

I don't see this important possibility accessible with VoiceOver.

Not entering data in an empty cell. That's easy.

Subject: weird problem with braille display

Hi guys.
Before I write Apple about this, I would like to know if anybody else is
having this problem. That way, I can sort of determine if it's my braille
display or the way I'm pressing the keys on the keyboard.
I have a Focus 40, but it's not Bluetooth. Although it seems a little better
since the firmware update I did yesterday, when I write in grade 2 I get
reversals. That is, I can type two or three letters or contractions, and
when they are translated, they are reversed. For instance, just now I type
the and sign, and when it came up on the display, I got the letters nad
instead of and. The other weird thing is that letters or dots are not always
input. Like I can type the letter n like I just did and I'll get the ar sign
or I'll type a word and one of the letters will be missing. I just had to
put the m back into the word missing because it wasn't on there, even though
I typed it. Is anybody else having this weird problem? If not, what do you
guys think I can do about it? Should I take the braille display off
VoiceOver somehow and then put it back on?

Regards,
Gigi

Re: weird problem with braille display

2012-02-24 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi Tommy.
Long time no talk to you, Tommy. I don't see how I could have the wrong table
in because I just chose contracted braille in VoiceOver utility. I think this
may, now that I experiment a little, have something to do with the speed of
brailling. If I do it slower, it doesn't seem to happen as often, and it
doesn't seem to happen as much if I am more precise about pressing my keys, but
I still have to watch it. I'm about ready to switch to computer braille for now
until I figure it out.

Since you say you don't have this problem, it's something with my braille
display. Therefore, how do you take out a braille display from VoiceOver so I
can take it out and then put it back again. Maybe something weird got changed
so that it's not doing right.

Regards,
Gigi

FYI: Fix HandBrake DVD ripping if you've installed VLC 2.0

2012-02-24 Thread Hai Nguyen Ly

http://www.macworld.com/article/165549/2012/02/fix_handbrake_dvd_ripping_if_youve_installed_vlc_2_0.html#lsrc=twt_macworld

Fix HandBrake DVD ripping if you've installed VLC 2.0

by Lex Friedman, Macworld.com Feb 24, 2012 11:30 am

[Editor’s note: The MPAA and most media companies argue that you can’t legally
copy or convert commercial DVDs for any reason. We (and others) think that, if
you own a DVD, you should be able to override its copy protection to make a
backup copy or to convert its content for viewing on other devices. Currently,
the law isn’t entirely clear one way or the other. So our advice is: If you
don’t own it, don’t do it. If you do own it, think before you rip.]

We’ve long loved HandBrake, the free, open-source for ripping DVDs. But if
you’ve upgraded to the recently-released VLC Player 2.0, you may have
encountered a HandBrake problem.

If you upgrade to VLC Player 2.0, HandBrake will likely show you this error
when you attempt to rip a DVD.
That’s because HandBrake requires VLC in order to read (and then transcode)
encrypted DVDs—and most DVDs you can buy these days are indeed encrypted. And
the latest version of VLC actually changes which code libraries it uses for DVD
decrypting and playback, meaning HandBrake can no longer take advantage of the
library it’s long depended upon for that purpose. So if you’ve upgraded to VLC
Player 2.0 and attempt to rip a DVD with HandBrake, you’ll encounter an error
message suggesting that you don’t have the right version of VLC installed.

Luckily, there’s an easy fix. First, you could download an older copy of VLC
and rename your newer version, but that’s annoying. The better solution is to
download the missing library directly from VLC. At that link, you can either
download an installer package, which places the library where it belongs, or
download the libdvdcss.2.dylib file directly. If you take the latter option,
you need to move that file to /usr/lib/ on your Mac. The installer does that
for you.

When I ran the installer, however, it locked up after a few seconds, and I
eventually needed to force-quit it. It had in fact installed the library in the
proper place, though, so everything turned out okay.

Once that file’s in the right place, HandBrake will happily start encoding
protected DVDs successfully again, and you can keep on using the latest version
of VLC, too.

2012-02-24 Thread David McLean
Just wanted to write a quick note to thank Esther for this recommendation. I
bought one of these and I really like it.
It's built like a tank and the keys remind me of the traditional PS2 keyboard
that was introduced on the AT machines back in the 80s only it's built even
better.
It's quite a heavy keyboard in case that would affect anyone's decision to buy
it.
There is also a driver that can be downloaded from the matias site to remap the
keys when using the keyboard on a Windows machine.
I haven't tried that yet however.

actually I can't explain why Martin Hairer decided to do it this way. But
I saw it in several other sound editors as well. I'm going to suggest to

You could also write to him and make this suggestion. So he might see the

Re: IPhone issues.

2012-02-24 Thread Alex Hall
Can you swipe right? It sounds like you are at the initial setup
screen. If I remember right, there will be a button to double tap.
Once you do that, the rest of the setup is quite straightforward. This
button is either in the top right or bottom center, again if I recall
correctly; I have only ever done the setup process twice.

Hi there,
My new Matias keyboard only has a six-pac, not a nine pack. When I help out my

Re: Messages App Not smiling about smile picker

2012-02-24 Thread Eric Caron
Hi Brett and others,

Thanks for this. I continued to explore once I got this to work as
Brett suggested. I found that I could also use the smile face picker button If
I made sure the mouse was on the button and then clicked on it. It would then
go into the edit box. My friends confirm it shows up. So now we have two ways
to get it to work.

scientific calculator after some use

2012-02-24 Thread Yuma Antoine Decaux
Hi All,

The mac os calculator either has some serious performance problems and doesn't
have what i need or it's my perception that wants everything to be extra zippy,
and it does in fact have what i want. But the question i have needs
clairifcation before i endeavor for an alternative solution:

With the current default calculator, i have to do some tedious work before
getting results i want, ie for changing values from rectangular to polar forms
when doing complex numbers.

Normally there's a rec deg function available on all scientific calculators but
on this one, i have to manually enter the values which is a complete drag and
annoyance.

Can anyone please tell me if there is in fact a way to do this and i'm missing
out on something somewhere?

Best regards,

Yuma

Re: IPhone issues.

2012-02-24 Thread Gigi
Hi Jessica
Have you tried restarting your iPhone question mark to do this what you need to
do is to practice to hold down the power key into Univoice over come on,
whether it's in English or in Spanish. We here voiceover talk, and butter what
languages Jim, it's probably saying to double tap to shut the iPhone they'll
tap anywhere on the screen with one finger. Wait for probably a couple of
minutes, then hold down the power key and count to say 10. That way, you will
be sure that the Apple logo is coming up. You will need to wait maybe a couple
of minutes for voiceover to come up hopefully it will come up in the language
you have chosen which I guess is English. Why fuck that but I guess that's what
you said.
Good luck with it
Regards
Gigi

Hey Ricardo. I have the default brightness set. I kinda have to keep it that
way because sighted people sometimes use my computer. I was talking to a friend
