Re: Big time Vo Crash

2011-03-25 Thread Jürgen Fleger
Maybe it helps to reinstall Snow Leopard.
The trackpad on my MacBook Air 13 inch was absolutely inresponsive. Sometimes
the gestures worked fine and sometimes I had to do a gesture 3 ord 4 times
until it worked. accessibil...@apple.com wrote they couldn't reproduce this
issue. For another reason I reinstalled Snow Leopard and now it workes fine.
Now it's as responsive as my Magic Trackpad on my iMac.

Re: repairing permissions

2011-03-25 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Christina,

I normally just repair permissions and don't bother with verifying permissions.

I also get to Disk Utility by pressing Command-Shift-U to get straight to the
Utilities folder, then the letters "dis" to go straight to Disk Utility. Having
opened the application, you have to interact with the table to select your hard
drive. This will be the first item in the list, so just interacting will select
it.

Stop interacting and navigate right where First Aid should already be selected.
Keep going right until you find REpair Permissions and click it.

You can follow its progress by going left again until you find the Results
table. Interact with this and you'll see lines appearing as permissions are
repaired.

Cheers,

Anne

RE: Drop Box

2011-03-25 Thread Paul Hunt
Hello Ricardo. Yes I created and activated my account on the windows side
and logged in and downloaded the app on the mac side. I don't see my drop
box folder and I'm not sure that I got a good download. I can't remove the
app and start over because it runs at startup and I don't know how to stop
this. Also, I don't know how to be sure that my download completed
successfully in safari. If I can clean up and start again I should be able
to fix this. Any suggestions are appreciated.

ipad 2 is so freaking thin

2011-03-25 Thread Yuma Decaux
So i ended my quest with an ipad2, like 24 other lucky ones today. Mac geeks
packing the place twittering, angry birding, mailing and texting with typical
apple sonic panorama.

This unit is deviously simple feeling. Really in tune with what the macbook air
feels like, though half its thickness which is just plain crazy.

It's a beautiful piece of hardware. All the apps just scream speed and
efficiency.

And the smart case is pretty cool too, snaps on like it's meant to be there and
asks only for it, folds out nicely to prop up as a stand, and both put together
it feels sturdy and elegant, high quality just like any apple product save
those stupid earphones.

Anyway, i'm glad to have waited those hours chatting off with a bunch of other
mac nerds and fanatics. It's like a cult experience. The whole thing is meant
to be this way. Brings people together and everyone knows the deal, is happy
with it, and just moves on with life once their wares are at grasp.

Anyone who wishes to upgrade, do so.

Going back to this slab thing from the future.

Yuma

Re: Drop Box

2011-03-25 Thread Ricardo Walker
Ah yes,

This is what I thought. You need to activate dropbox on your Mac.
Unfortunately, dropbox broke the voiceover accessibility for this in their last
update. You need sighted help to get dropbox up and running on your Mac.
After that, you will have the dropbox folder in your Home folder by default if
you so choose, and you with have access to the vital functions of dropbox.

Re: repairing permissions

2011-03-25 Thread Christina
Thanks all. After the process was complete I went through the results. I
never did finish arrowing through all the repairs. There were sooo many
that I gave up arrowing down. :) Yikes! Is it normal to have that many
repairs or did I just wait way too long?

Thanks again,
Christina

Re: pyrcast, a nearly accessible pandora.com client

2011-03-25 Thread Mary Otten
This is a nice client for Pandora that was easily labeled with a minute of
sighted help. For anybody using it, I have noticed one problem and wonder if
you can duplicate it. Start playing a station, then switch to another station
and start playing that one. Every time I do that, I get pyrcast busy busy,
busy, and the only way to make it stop is to shut off vo and then restart it.

Also, I haven't found a way to start a station playing in the table of stations
except by routing the mouse to the vo cursor and then doing the simulated click
vo shift space. Has anybody found a way to make this work without having to
fool with the mouse cursor? Same for creating a station. Only the mouse click
will complete the add station process and start the new station playing, at
least, in my experience. Other thoughts?

Re: repairing permissions

2011-03-25 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Christina,

After an update to the OS, it's normal to have vast numbers of permission
repairs. The next time you do it, there'll just b a few.

You can never get down to none when you run Disk Utility from the internal hard
drive, but maybe it's possible when Disk Utility is run from the installation
disk, something that has to be done if you need to perform the Repair Disk
function.

Before you ask, Disk Utility is available from the menus on the screen that
follows the Language Chooser screen during the installation process.

Cheers,

Anne

Re: ipad and text editor

I don't know of a size limmit, but I haven't fully tested that.

DropBox, if you get the right version, is accessible for the Mac.
http://chickdigmacs.net should have a good version you can download.

Ah yes,

This is what I thought. You need to activate dropbox on your Mac.
Unfortunately, dropbox broke the voiceover accessibility for this in their
last update. You need sighted help to get dropbox up and running on your
Mac. After that, you will have the dropbox folder in your Home folder by
default if you so choose, and you with have access to the vital functions of
dropbox.

Making Textedit a Service

2011-03-25 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
Hey Simon, here's what I did. In system preferences, I go to the keyboard
settings, I go to the keyboard shortcuts tab and select services in the
shortcuts categories. Now when I go to the right of that, I get another table
with a whole bunch of keyboard shortcuts to choose from and the original poster
said to go right of that shortcuts categories table to service names. So what
I'm trying to say is, I don't get no such table called service names, all I get
are two tables, shortcuts categories and keyboard shortcuts. So I don't know
what to do. If someone could assist me on Skype, that would be cool.

Re: Acapela Voices

Yes they should be in the VO Utilities. Also if you use the
control+option+command right and left arrows to find the voice roter then use
the down arrow while holding down those same 3 keys, you should be able to find
them more quicker.

Exactly.

Although voiceover is telling you that dropbox has no windows, there is indeed
a window. It says somethings like Welcome to Dropbox. And then the options
create an account or I have an existing account are displayed underneath.

1 Password

2011-03-25 Thread Dan Roy
I thought I read on this list that the 1 password software was accessible with
voiceover? Well, I downloaded the trial version last night. It actually
downloaded as an .app file. However, when I open it, VO says it has no
windows. the only way I could close this app was by doing a force quit. I
also looked under the menus with ctrl-F8 and found no option for the program
there either. At least, nothing visible. I wish I remembered the person who
worked with the developer on this 1. So, if anyone has any other info on 1
password, I would appreciate it, thanks.

confirms somewhat their interest in making all their applications accessible,
and this purveys a lot of good news to come people.

SO i have been testing DJ on my brand new ipad2, figuring where all the
controls are on the virtual surface, which incidentally is a miniature version
of a classic turntable deck, and after finding the track loading buttons on
both turntables, i decided to give the it a spin, tryig out scratches and
fading from one table to the other. Were i sighted, all of this would have been
pure bliss. Being blind, this is like a game of battleship with a muffled
sonar, but the experience is way better than before. The scratching can
definetely be improved as the resolution isn't high standard, and a lot of
buttons , mainly eq and effects racks, come out from a pop up once you tap on
toggle alternative buttons.

Now before i go on and try some more on this little beauty, i wanted to call
upon anyone on these lists who might be interested in setting up a quick
kickstarter project.

As some of you might know, kickstarter is a crowd funding platform for various
creative ideas in the music, movie and design industries.
This allows for teams with great ideas and would like to try getting funds for
it to make something happen. Some projects include braille watches, solar
charged ipad cases, etc.

I wanted to know if anyone here, with a little team work and a few
brainstorming sessions, would like to go forth with a slipmat for the ipad,
specifically for DJ, with cookie cutter spaces where all the controls are.

I have already been outlining this in a previous post, but the more i try dj on
the ipad, the more i see this as a realistic goal.

I have no problem assigning a small team at my studio for preparing the cads
for molding, as well as preparing the contacts for a first prototype which can
be videoed live on an ipad. I am talking a real prototype made in resin which
will be printed from a 3d service, based on our cad files. If someone would be
willing to help with the kickstarter platform as its only us based for now, we
can probably get something going and all DJ fans, blind or not i am sure, can
have something good out of this.

Please let me know off list whether this would interest you.

It doesn't really matter whether anyone would jump on the train or not, as i
have been anticipating this for a while and have already budgeted myself for
realizing the project, even at a scale of just a few prototypes.

This is not to make any money, but to share the creative processes going on
here, as well as a drive to provide alternative accessibility solutions for
certain entertainment applications which we could greatly benefit from.

Hope this will raise some eyebrows, and have a great weekend

Re: acapella voices

2011-03-25 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Guys,
I went to Nuance.com and couldn't find any place where I could buy
more voices. Where should I have gone? Also, where can I buy the a
capella voices? Assistiveware.com? A Capella Group.com? Somewhere
else? I'd be happy with just Samantha or Vicky that I had on PC, SAPI
voices from AT&T, I think. I just want a change like a pleasant
female voice from time to time.
Any thoughts?
Kevin
