Re: Adobe Reader or Firefox
Firefox is not accessible at this time. I believe there is someone working on this, but for now it is Safari pretty much. I believe there are other browsers such as Opera, but I am not sure how well that works and others can comment. Preview is your only option for PDFs at this time. Adobe has decided the Mac platform does not have a sufficient number of users to invest time in making their products accessible. Well ok, that is what I gather from things I have read, but again, others may have more information that is not available to me. Re: Adobe Reader or Firefox
Hello Marcelo, Although it is possible to use Adobe Reader to read PDF files under VoiceOver control, I don't know of any VoiceOver user who prefers to use Adobe Reader over Preview (or another third party software called Skim that goes beyond Preview's capabilities by adding annotation features). Almost everyone who has switched to VoiceOver comments on how much nicer the experience is reading PDFs with VoiceOver's native apps. (Scott may be thinking of Adobe Acrobat Professional in his reply about accessibility. It is true that books encoded with Adobe's digital rights management cannot be read with Adobe's software and screen readers, but they do have Adobe Reader for non-protected PDF documents.) If you really want to try using Adobe Reader instead of Preview, I can dig out my notes. Adobe Reader is sufficiently unintuitive that I have to keep a record of the commands. It uses text to speech rather than VoiceOver's interactive controls. You also need to check the right menus for the controls, because the speed controls for text to speech speaking rate are set within the app, and the system text to speech speaking rates are bypassed. I ended up having to read through most of its rather complex menu structure. There's a "Read Out Loud" command under the View menu that you'll need to use. Again, unlike the case with Preview you have more limited control. And as Scott said, Firefox is not accessible with VoiceOver. HTH. Re: New Apple TV runs IOS 4.1
It won't come with voiceover; all that we have learnt is that it's running a customised version of ios which can be jailbroken, although this almost surtainly does not translate to us getting vo. What we'll see is 3rd party addons to the front row type application that enable services that the device should have had by default. I guess me hoping for a complete ios port was a bit silly really. Re: Adobe Reader or Firefox
Esther, Thanks that is what I intended and stated incorrectly. I did try the voice in the reader and it was pretty much a drag, so I just stuck with Preview. It works for most my purposes, but for DRM content where you have to enter a user ID and/or password, it is incredibly painful and as best I recall I could not do it without sighted assistance. Announcing the Historical Access Preservation Project
Hello, I have started a new project, the Historical Access Preservation Project, or HAPP. The website is at: http://allinaccess.com/happ The goal of this project is to preserve the software needed to access older systems that are no longer in wide mainstream use, such as DOS, Macintosh pre-OSX, and OS/2. Also included would be hardware devices such as the Braille 'N Speak. So far, I'm looking for archives and information. Software archives that I can sort through and put what I can on the sight, and information such as documentation and current contact addresses of companies that may still be selling their applications, or may be willing to make them freeware/open source. Any help that could be provided for this project would be appreciated. Please forward this to anyone that might benefit from it - Tyler -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Fonts and line spacing in Text Edit
Hello folks: I would really love to use text edit to write essays for school, but most instructors like Times New Roman font and double spacing. I've checked the fonts out in text edit, but it seems very confusing. Does anyone have experience with this? If so, could you give me a pointer or two? I would really appreciate it. I had to drag out the windows machine and really hated every minute of it! :) -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: Fonts and line spacing in Text Edit
Hi Kimberly, 1. To set the line spacing in TextEdit: • Stop Interacting with the Edit field. • Navigate to the Ruler and Interact With it. • Navigate to the Paragraph and Line Spacing menu and press it with VO-space. • choose your desired line spacing. 2. To choose a font: • Either highlight what you wish in a specific font or this font will begin from where the cursor is. • Press cmd-t to bring up the Font window. • Ignore most of the stuff but navigate to the Family Table. • Interact With it. • Navigate to your desired Font through the alphabetically ordered Table. • Once you have found it, bring the mouse cursor to it using VO-cmd-f5. (Add the fn key if on a laptop) • Press VO-shift-space for the mouse-click as focus doesn't really go there without the mouse-click. • Press cmd-w to close the Font window. • Start typing and your font will be in your desired font. Remember that you can press VO-t to confirm the font and style of your text. Just play around some more, it will come to you. HTH. Later... Using Voiceover with Itunes USB File Sharing
Hi all, My apologies if this has been covered before, but I don't see any mention of this in the archives. A number of iPhone apps support transferring files from Itunes on your Mac or PC to the iPhone via USB. Am I correct in thinking that this feature is not accessible from the Mac side? From the research I've done, it seems one would have to drag a file into Itunes and then onto the iPhone. I have attempted to do this with Voiceover's drag-and-drop commands but have had no success. Any response would be appreciated. Thanks, Rose -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: Using Voiceover with Itunes USB File Sharing
Nope you can do it. Just sleect the app, which won't read in that particular table. it's the table after the main apps table, then hit the add button and it will be added to your phone. I've done it. Re: Fonts and line spacing in Text Edit
Hi tim, This is helpful to me as well. I have one question about the VO-t command for hearing the current text attributes. For some reason, this command works fine for me when I open existing documents but all I get is one of the voiceover sounds when I use it in a newly created document. Re: Fonts and line spacing in Text Edit
Hi Justin, Does your document have any text in it at all? If the document is empty then pressing VO-t will yield a muffled ding noise because there's nothing there for it to take the text attributes of. Simply type one letter and then press the VO-t command and you'll hear the text attributes. If that is not the issue, let me know and I'll dig some more for you. Later... Hi tim, LOL. Nope, I wouldn't try to get the attributes of non-existent text. Don't think you'd get terribly far with that one. Re: New Apple TV runs IOS 4.1
It works just fine. I just did it on the first try. I would suggest being in the sources table before hitting add anew library on the remote app. Then remember if your devices is connect to your computer that you will see 2 names. For example, Ricardo's iPhone followed by the battery percentage, and Ricardo's iPhone followed by the word sources. This is the one you need to be on in the sources table. Then tab twice and you will here unknown. Now type in the 4 digit code displayed on your device in the remote app. You will then be able to brows and control your iTunes library via your Remote app. hth On Sep 28, 2010, at 11:18 PM, Sarah Alawami wrote: > Actually the code for itunes for the remote is changed.
