2010-09-14 Thread Simon Fogarty
Geoff,

Thanks for that. Yes going back and looking at the installer I first
downloaded, its not the same one. But the installer you have pointed us to,
which esther has put up. Is very accessible. With jaws kersor use.

Now with the firmware updated, the q1 connects to my Ipad, ipod touch and
my mobile phone, which is a nokia, without any problems.

The only complaint is that the volume is not loud enough so I can use either
while cycling!

But at least now it is working.

Thanks to both yourself and esther for the assistance.

Cheers

Greetings Simon and others,

The updater is indeed accessible with JFW. As I recall you do need to use
the JFW cursor and maybe simulate a mouse click or two but it's definitely
doable.

You will want to read the directions presented on the window carefully
though. I recall going nuts because my Netbook would not recognize the Q1
as a USB device. After several attempts I read the Window and noticed the
instructions stated very clearly that you needed to hold down the volume up
button while connecting the headset.

Lastly for those who don't have a way to ascertain their Q1's serial number
necessary to complete Blueant's signup procedure, the link Esther posted for
the updater is still active

http://www.sendspace.com/file/70ciqf

This updater only runs on 32 bit Windows, but will check Blueant's site for
the latest firmware (8.21 presently).

Best regards.

Hi Esther,

Yeah I paired it with my nokia phone. It comes up with q1 v8.19. I've signed

Turns out it isn't accessible with jaws. And it doesn't work on 64bit

So going to try it later on an xp machine ans see how that works out.

Hi Simon,

I think that if you pair the headset to your Mac it will show up with the
complete version number identifying your device. It sounds to me as though
you're running a version before the A2DP update, and that's why your iPad
isn't seeing it. I found an old post of Geoff's on the viphone list, where
he uploaded the version 8.19 firmware. I don't know whether this is still
active, but he ran this on an XP machine, and I'll paste it in below. You'll
have to read the documentation at the BlueAnt site for instructions on how
to update.

Also, here's the link to another post on the viphone list about running the

I'm limited in how much I can help with this, since I ran the setup of the

Geoff's version was for version 8.19, but once the software is on your

2010-09-14 Thread Sandy Tomkins
Hi,

I have been sending notes via email to an email list while I am on my
holidays. The issue of the subject line containing the whole message is easily
overcome if you just start your note with a suitable title and then press
return a couple of times as if composing a new paragraph. This seems to work
for me. When I haven't done this, I just make sure to take the cursor, double
tapping when in the edit field, and holding down the backspace on lmy think
outside keyboard, till I hear the empty box sort of sound that the iPhone makes
when you have reached the end or the beginning of something.

I really do think this will be tyhe way to go re note taking etc. Plus,
there are programs like Readdledocs, which I do have, but haven't got to grips
with yet, but feel sure it will make editing and moving docs between the iphone
and a P.C./Mac even more efficient.

At the moment, as I have not, and can't, supdate my iphone's os to 4.1
which should improve my control of the edit fields of the iphone via the
keyboard, I am still having difficulty editing, but anticipate improvements
when I get logged onto a good internet connection and can upgrade!

As far as Braille displays are concerned, within the year we should see
something really radicle and more affordable coming onto the market!

All the best from balmy Italia! Sandy.

to use the Iphone as an option for work. I didn't realize you could E-mail
notes from your Iphone. THat is pretty cool. I will have to try this one
day. I was just thinking about how neat it would be to pair the Iphone
with
a BLuetooth keyboard and Braille display. Now that would be amazing. I
love

watching how this new technology is going to develop and open so many new
doors that were previously closed to us.

Have a great evening.

then i am not in the place i want to be. Then i press up arrow or down arrow
and i don't hear anything again. Is there any special commands or what is it
i'm doing wrong to play this game?

Re: ITunes search

2010-09-14 Thread Carolyn
Hi Carlene:
I don't know what they did with 10, but a lot of things don't work correctly
anymore, and that is one of them. I emailed Accessibility at Apple, and have
not gotten any response. But, my biggest issues are that it tends to make my
other Mac programs unstable, and their stupid Ping thing keeps making emy
cursor go bonkers. Then I become a curser:( Maybe enough people are emailing
about itunes 10. Obviously, I don't know. But, the more folks that let them
know there are problems, the more likely they'll be able to pay attention, and
address/fix them.

Take care.

allegiant air website not accessible with vo and safari

2010-09-14 Thread Mary Otten
Hi all,
I was trying to help a friend make an on line reservation using
http://www.allegiantair.com
and couldn't get past the opening screen, because I was unable to access the
calendar to select departure and return dates. I tried this with a pc as well
and didn't have any better luck there, but for purposes of this message, I'm
curious if any of you have been successful with this site or can tell me what
the problem is, so that if I write to Apple, I'd know what to reference. I had
high hopes for the magic track pad and that calendar, but even though vo read
out s m t w etc and the numbers for dates all in a string, I couldn't get focus
on any one thing to try to select. Getting the numbers and letter abbreviations
read out was further than I or she got with windows screen readers, but it
still didn't do us any good.

Re: ITunes search

I'm really not having any issues at all with itunes 10. Maybe 1 or 2 but I did
let them know about it. All in all the program runs more stable then 9 ever did.

Take care.

importing bank account info into numbers

2010-09-14 Thread Nancy Badger
I am trying to import my bank statement into numbers. It lists several
file extensions on line but none of them are for numbers. They do list
for quickin and a file extension of CVS, and a txt.dat. Does anyone
know if these would be compatible with numbers? Has anyone tried
something like this before?

Thanks

Re: IOS 4.1, blutooth keyboard and the iPod Touch as a notetaker for school?

2010-09-14 Thread Mary Otten
The word processor on the Mac is called text edit. If you purchase Iwork for
the Mac, you get an office suite that includes Pages. Given that this is the
IOS device-centered list, I imagine that Ricardo's reference to Pages being
only for IPad was in the context of IOS devices. Pages is not available for
IPhone or IPod touch. I have my fingers crossed for it becoming available soon.

Re: allegiant air website not accessible with vo and safari

2010-09-14 Thread Colin M
Hi Mary!
I've just had a look at that site from the link in your part of this message!
I do not know where you might be going wrong but I've never used any site like
this before and I could choose a city to leave from and set a date to depart
from!
What I did after selecting the city next to it is depart edit text and next to
that is a link which I pressed!
When I found the calendar the 1st option is the month which was set on Sep with
a than link each side of it, when i pressed the > link it changed
to October!
Then I went to the next field to pick the year, it was set on 2010 with a >than
link next to it I pressed that and it changed to 2011, next came the day all
of the numbers also had links so I selected one when I did this I scrolled back
to the departure slot and the date was there Oct 9 2011!
I'm in the uk and it seemed to work ok here!
Sorry I'm not very good at directions so I hope this is of use to you and not
to boar ring!

Colin,
Were you in dom or group mode? That's the only thing I didn't think of, trying
the other mode. I was in dom mode. I had no problems with the pop up buttons to
select my city. But the calendar fields certainly didn't appear for me as you

twitter apps for ipad

2010-09-14 Thread Holly Anderson
Hi all. I'm looking for a good twitter app for my ipad. I've tried
twitterrific and I don't really like it. I want to just be able to run my
finger down the list of tweets, not have to search too much. People have
mentioned echofon pro but I understand that you can't reply to tweets, that
part isn't accessible. Any recommendations would be appreciated. I'd kind of
like one that works with ipad instead of just an iphone app used on the ipad.
But any recommendations for what people are using would be great. thanks
Holly

IBooks and Macs?

2010-09-14 Thread Teresa Cochran
I have a very odd question. Is it possible to read IBooks on a desktop or
laptop? They are .epub format, after all. I looked up some info and found out
that any annotations in the books would not appear without the app. So is it
possible to go to the IBooks store and download them for the computer to read
on something like Stanza?

Thanks,
Teresa

amtrack website not accessible

2010-09-14 Thread Allison Manzino
Hi all,

I was wondering has anyone tried to book on Amtrack's website? I tried to and I
can only see the dates in September. This appears as columns, which I can
navigate more easily with the item chooser. But I was wondering how do you
navigate this site and get the calendar feature up so you can make
reservations. Mary's question made me think about it. Thank you for any
assistance you can provide.

Sincerely,
Allison

Re: allegiant air website not accessible with vo and safari

2010-09-14 Thread Mike Arrigo
Hi Mary, this is indeed a problem site, I do have a wrk around though. Move
your voice over cursor to the date you want, and press control option command
f5 to place the mouse on the item. Now press control option shift space to do a
mouse click, this calendar seems to require actual mouse clicks to work, it's
bad design on their part though.

Re: allegiant air website not accessible with vo and safari

2010-09-14 Thread Mary Otten

Hi Mike,
My problem was that I couldn't even get to the dates. I went back there and
tried pressing vo space, the 5 on the number pad, up and down arrows in quick
nav and the enter kay on that departure date link. After each of those, I
looked around with the number pad and quick nav arrows for anything resembling
dates. No go. Don't know what I'm not doing, but since Colin managed, it seems
like I ought to be able to do that too.

So what about that iPod Touch? Is it accessible? Does it run Digit-Eyes?

2010-09-14 Thread Nancy M
We’ve been using our iPod Touch units (yes, the ones that have the
camera) in the lab and we are very impressed with the results.

In a nutshell, here is what we’ve found about the new iPod Touch:

   1. The case on the iPod Touch 4g is more like the one of the iPhone
3 than the four. However the unit is about half as thick as either of
the phones.
   2. The camera on the new Touch is profoundly different from that on
any of the iPhones. It does not have autofocus, but it yields clear
and sharp results on all but the most close-up usage.
   3. The Touch has VoiceOver with all the trimmings — it works
smoothly on all applications;
   4. The Touch works with the bluetooth Braille displays, just like
the iPhone does.
   5. The Touch supports the same range of languages in VoiceOver that
the other ios4 devices do.

Digit-Eyes works on the new iPod Touch. There are a few differences:

   1. Because of the nature of the camera, we find that the optimum
scan distance is about12 inches; certainly no closer than 6 inches.
People who are used to scanning with the 3gs will find this may take a
little getting used to.
   2. The capture and processing of the Digit-Eyes labels — both text
and audio labels — is blazing fast. If you’ve gotten some of those
Digit-Eyes washable labels, you’ll be very happy with how quickly they
are recognized.
   3. To look up UPC or EAN codes, you’ll need a Wi-Fi connection (it
is an iPod not an iPhone, right?)
   4. We found that because the camera is very sensitive to lighting
levels, that UPC / EAN scanning works best in bright light.
   5. We STRONGLY recommend the use of a light case, such as that
offered by FastMac; in testing, we found that the use of the lightcase
raised the capture success rate by at least an order of magnitude.
Note that because the iPod Touch is so much thinner than the iPhone,
we found it was necessary to stabilize it by sliding two pieces of
cardboard behind it in the light case.

While we love our iPhone 4 and recommend that above all others, the
iPod Touch with it’s one-time purchase price of between $229 and $399
is going to be a very nice alternative to people who do want Digit-
Eyes, but don’t want to deal with monthly phone charges.

We've submitted a new version of Digit-Eyes for the iPod Touch to
Apple and anticipate having it available in about 10 days.
