I'm using utorrent and Transmission. Transmission is good, but i can't seem to
see the time left until transfer is completed, that's my only objection about
that client.

Re: Download link for the Unarchiver

2010-04-29 Thread William Windels
Hello listers,

Thx for the hint and download information.
I would also ask if there is any program to unpack different formats?
On windows, I have a free program called powerarchiver that can unpack : zip,
gz, rar, tar, bzip2 and some other formats.
Can I have such program on the mac (for free)?
Or, can the program below also handle this different formats?

Thanx in advance,
best regards,
William

Hi Simon:

I was actually thinking of sharing the information. I just want to be

When I'm next on my mac, I'll forward the info.

Thanks for asking.

Hi Carolyn,

I have to ask, but is there any chance you might let the list have the link
to that page with the training information

So those of us that may be very basic / beginnerusers could possibly benefit
from the information as well?

If not then hay tat would be fine as you probably paid for the access. But
just thought I'd ask.

Cheers

Subject: text elements and clickable

Hi everyone:
I had my firwt training session through Apple's One to one program. It was
interesting, anda little peculiar. My training ws held in the middle of the
store, with all the noise and bustle of a Friday afternoon. I got
familiarized a little more with the visual layout of the screens, the menu
bar, and some of the voiceover utility. As part of this program, I receive
access to a special page of tutorials, and other tools. Gee, I have a long
way to go. So, I was exploring this page, and came across a very bsic
question, the answer to which will probably enable me to move along
independently and set goals for my next training session. On this page, are
a number of links, headers, levels, etc. clicking on links (using
VO/spacebar, what then appears are text elements that say clickable.
Probably very simple, but nothing I do brings the "clickable" text elements
to life.
Tia for any help with this.
Carolyn

Syncing a Braillenote mPower bt32 with a mac.

2010-04-29 Thread Dónal Fitzpatrick
Hi there,
Well the subject says it all really. For various reasons, I need to travel
this weekend and I'm taking my old BT32 out of mothballs. However, oddly
enough for the first time since I binned my PC, I need to sync some files
(map data actually) with it. Is there a way to do this using my mac?

Cheers,

Hi,
Just download your maps and using a card reader unzip the maps to your
compact flash card in a folder called maps. Just a simple unzip/copy
paste within finder.

No PC required.

iBooks quirk.

2010-04-29 Thread Jesse Bollinger

Hi all,

Not sure if it's me or a quirk in iBooks. Sometimes when I'm finished
with a page and I do the flick to the next page it starts reading but
doesn't seem like it kept the place. For instance if the page ends in a
middle of a sentense and goes to the next page it doesn't continue with
that sentense. Also it seems to run some words together. I guess it
could be the page being messed up in the epub itself though. Just
wondering if anyone else experiences this.

Re: -- Question on Autostarting a VM under Fusion

Thanks, but what I was trying to find out is this and it's to help a friend. He
installed windows as a VM and whenever he launches Fusion, windows starts
automatically and this is not the behavior he wants. He just wants Fusion to

Happy fifth birthday VoiceOver

2010-04-29 Thread Darcy Burnard
April 29th 2005 saw the release of Mac OS 10.4 Tiger. This was the first
version of the Mac OS to include VoiceOver. We've come a long way in these
past five years, and if you're interested in taking a look back, there are a
couple of things you might want to check out.
First, we did a retrospective episode of the Screenless Switchers Podcast which
you can find at http://www.screenlessswitchers.com, or you can subscribe in
iTunes. Holly and I were joined by Josh De Lioncourt and Steve Sawczyn.
The second thing you might want to check out is Josh's excellent birthday
article on Maccessibility. You can find it at
http://www.lioncourt.com/2010/04/29/happy-birthday-voiceover/.
Here's to another five years.

synch problem

2010-04-29 Thread denise avant
Hello all,

This is an update to the problem I was having earlier. What I've seen is
that the iphone will not sync at all using itunes. It says its synching but
simply sits there never installing anything to my phone. Can anyone tell me
how to troubleshoot this problem? Thanks.

Things were working fine a few days ago. The only thing I know I did was to
download and install the new version of itunes.

Re: -- Question on Autostarting a VM under Fusion

2010-04-29 Thread Nicolai Svendsen
Hi,

You can change this by doing the following.

1. Find the virtual machine you want in the VIrtual machine Library. Hit
COmmand-Shift-L to bring this to the foreground.
2. If the Mouse is not currently focussed on the machine you want when using
the VoiceOver keys to locate the virtual machine, hit VO-Command-F5.
3. Now, Control-Click with the mouse. Literally. This will bring up a menu.
4. Either navigate to "Open when VMWare Fusion Starts" by using the VoiceOver
keys or simply using down arrow, then hit enter or VO-Space to uncheck.

The reason I suggest using VO-Command-F5 to reposition the mouse cursor is
because it does not always follow.

Hope this helps.

Re: parelells a complete waist of my time

2010-04-29 Thread Brent Harding
Can I go the other way, buy fusion, install Windows, and dump that to a boot
camp partition some how? This Macbook is resisting all attempts, even with
sighted help, to even boot the windows disk, and I have two different ones.
One of them I know says it contains service pack 2, and they say nothing
about 64-bit, so they must be 32. I know the one for the desktop definitely
is. I was thinking with a VM of Windows, I could slip it on through the back
door. I tried the option key to boot, holding C, resetting the PRam, only
waited for 3 chimes, some people say to go as many as 5. I looked at a forum
post and someone said it's a bad luck of the draw because they have two of
the same model Macbook and one bootcamped and the other refused. Without
another Mac, how else can I get the partition loaded with XP?

Hi,

As far as I know, this isn't possible. I wish it was, though. IF someone has
somehow found out how, I'd love to know. It doesn't look possible though. Sorry
to burst your bubble.

RE: iPad and bluetooth refreshable braille

2010-04-29 Thread Bryan Smart
Would really be cool if one of the display companies made their own keyboard
dock with integrated display. The iPad battery would support running it for a
long time. I suppose that the Bluetooth model is better for them, though, as
one model can be used with lots of different devices.

In general, the iPad needs a better dock. The keyboard dock is nice, but, for
one, I wish it included better speakers. There is the line-out port, of course,
but would be good if they were integrated.

If they do make it I'd be surprised.

personal preference. What feels good in one man's hand doesn't necessarily
feel good in another's. I suggest you let your student hold and use both of
these displays and pick the one that feels good in his hand. Otherwise, you
might buy something he's not comfortable with and it will go into a closet.

Hello to all. Have you noticed that switch crashes upon trying to convert wma
files? I get an error which I report but I don't know what causes the crash.

Take care.

Hi Sarah, if you don't have it installed, maybe installing flip4mac WMV will
help and allow you to convert these files?
