game engine
HI all, There is a game engine coming out for windows, that lets people make their own games just by running some scripts, so all they need are the sounds and or music etc. It is only for windows at the moment but it would be great if the developer of www.blastbay.com would make it work under mac for us guys to make our own games for the mac community. At present the guy states it not viable, but he should look at the mac community it is growing rapidly and the only aspect we are lacking on, is games There is a forum on there under general discussion ic alled the post "mac" basically the game toolkit will let one make their own games as the engine does all the programming, again, not sure how it works yet but it is only for windows -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Making a game is much less simpler than you imply, evenif you do use an engine. I actually kno of the guy who is making that, the last time I spoke to him he had absolutely no money, so mac development isn't going to happen. But like I say, its not really just a case of "running some scripts". Re: right click is not consistent
Hi Sarah, Are you using the SendSpace Wizard? If so I agree, the Wizard does need a lot of work, although it is usable once you get the hang of it. Some functions cannot be done within the Wizard though. Try this: Press VO Shift F3 to turn cursor tracking on. Then once you're where you want to be, try rooting the cursor again with VO Command F5. You should then be able to Control Click on the folder. HTH TC James Lyn, Nash & Twinny On 20 Mar 2010, at 20:16, Sarah Alawami wrote: > Nope that did not work. That would only be an issue if he wanted to use virtualisation software which I only suggested because I thought that someone else would - I'm not a fan of it myself due to this very reason. Anyway, going a bit off topic here, but yes, it would be nice if there were more games for the mac although if push came to shove I'd probably rather developers focused there efforts on making games for the iPhone and iPod touch. I know it's not much, but we do have Chess on the Mac. it's very hard though. I can't keep the board in my head. I need to get a real chess board then I can play properly. Other options for tracking bitrate information in iTunes [was Re: how to see a music files bitrate?]
Hi Anouk, If you're checking your music library en masse, in iTunes you can use a smart playlist to find all entries with a specified bit rate or range of bit rates. Or you could simply change your view options so that bit rate is one of the displayed options for your tracks. To add bit rate to your displayed options in iTunes, use the Command-J shortcut to bring up View Options, then check the box for "Bit Rate". You can also find "View Options" under the "View" menu of the iTunes menu bar if you forget the shortcut: just use VO-M, press "V" to go to the "View" menu and arrow down. The bit rate will show up as one of the columns for each track in the songs table. To make a smart playlist, use the Command-Option-N shortcut for "New Smart Playlist", or find this option under the "File" menu on the iTunes menu bar. In the smart playlist dialogue window VO-Right Arrow to the rules section and interact. VO-space on the first pop up button and press "b" and then press return to change it to "Bit Rate". You can either type in a bit rate in the text box or VO-Left arrow to change the pop up button from "is" to another value by pressing the button with VO-Space and arrowing down to another selection (e.g. "is not", "is greater than", "is less than", "is in the range"). VO-Right arrow to type in the appropriate text. You now have a rule like: 160 192 where you set the pop up buttons for "Bit Rate" and "in the range", and typed in the rate values in the text boxes. You can also apply additional rules if, for example, you want to see how your library's music quality changed over time. VO-Right arrow to the end of the first rule and press (VO-Space) the "Add" button. A second rule line will be added, and you'll be placed at the first pop up button, which you now want to press (VO-Space) and change from "Bit Rate" to "Date Added" by pressing "d" and then return. (As with most menus, selections can be changed either by using your arrow keys or by typing the first few letters of the entry you want.) Again, you'll be in the text box, and if you VO-Left arrow you'll hear the pop up button for "is" and if you VO-Right arrow the text box will be announced with a default value (today's date). You can change the pop up button from "is" to look for a range of dates, but you can also set this to "is in the last" or "is not in the last", and you'll get a pop up button you can set for "days", "weeks", or "months", and a text box, so that your second rule might look like: 6 where you set the pop up buttons for "Date Added", "is in the last", and "months", and typed in "6" in the text box. When you've finished adding rules, stop interacting, and then navigate to the "OK" button and press it (VO-Space). (I'm sloppy about this, and I simply press return to commit the changes and exit the dialogue, and I press escape if I want to cancel. This lets me exit as soon as I type my rules, if I don't want to stop interacting or change any of the other features in the smart playlist dialogue -- such as limiting the playlist by size, playing time, or number of items. If you haven't explored the dialogue window you should navigate and read through the other items.) Another thing that's useful when you select playlists is to VO-Down Arrow from the songs table to the status line that gives a summary of number of items, total time, and total file size. You can use VO-Space to toggle the time reporting to rounded format. (If you have several days of play time in your playlist, you don't really want to know the total play time in hours, minutes, and seconds!) I use smart playlists for temporary checks like this and then delete them. It's also pretty simple to move back to the smart playlist in the sources table and edit it (VO-Shift-M for the context menu, press "E" for "Edit Smart Playlist" and return). Just change the pop up button on the second rule from "is in the last" to "is not in the last" and you'll see how your bit rate stats differed for music added before the last six months. For more details on working with smart playlists, see the archived post on "Introduction to Smart Playlists in iTunes" at: http://www.mail-archive.com/macvisionaries%40googlegroups.com/msg01294.html That doesn't include the new features of more flexible rule combinations by using the "Group" button at the end of each rule. Re: right click is not consistent
Hi, Just a question. Why would you want to bring up a menu in the transfer table? The only thing you'd really care about, I'd think, would be getting links for files on the server. When it comes to transfers, you can always check the settings to see where they'll appear, and as for uploads, well, you don't need to worry about transfers in that category either. I don't get it. All you'd want to bring up the contextual menu for in SendSpace is finding the link for a file already uploaded, which you can do with COmmand-L. searching for a specific saved mail message
Hello all, I know there is a text search field associated with the tool bar in the mail viewer window, where you can type a word and get all messages containing that word. My sighted friend who owns a Mac says that right under that field, once the search has been entered, there are choices which let you select various things to narrow the list of hits, such as which mailbox, or whether the term occurs in the subject, body of the message etc. I an not able to find that area with the vo keys. Vo plus up down left or right arrow leaves me in the search field and tabbing out takes me out of the search area altogether. Is there a way to get to this line under the text search field where you can narrow the selection of hits you've found with your search using vo? mary -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: searching for a specific saved mail message
HI Mary, Yes, you can search for specific messages in your mailbox. The key to your answer is that the fields for fine-tuning the results are not displayed in the toolbar, so once you have typed in your search term, and VoiceOver has told you the number of matching results, you need to stop interacting with the toolbar and use VO-Right arrow. Tabbing just cycles you between the Mailboxes table, the Messages table, and the Preview pane area for individual messages (if you haven't hidden this). I use Control-Option-F if I want to get back directly to the search text field in the toolbar to refine my search by typing in additional terms or deleting some search terms. Control-Option-F works quite generally across applications such as Finder or in iTunes and routes focus to the search text field in each case. (This is especially useful now in iTunes with the various changes that have been going on in the format since simpler versions in iTunes 8, where I could simply tab between the Sources table, the Search Text Field, and the Songs table -- or possibly to the File Browser (now known as Column Browser) if that was toggled on.) It's easiest to give an example. Let's say that I wanted to find an email where you had discussed headphones among the messages in my Mail application. 1. Command-Option-F to move focus to the Search Text Field (in the Mail toolbar) 2. Type in "Mary Otten headphones" into the search field (without quotation marks) and then VO-Right arrow 3. I might hear "0 found", but the results will depend on my last search parameters (e.g., whether I was searching the entire message, the subject, or the "From" field) 4. Stop interacting (VO-Shift Up Arrow) and VO-Right Arrow past the "Mailboxes table" to the first of the adjustable parameters, which will let you broaden the search from the currently selected mailbox to "All Mailboxes". 5. The fields that will be announced are, in sequence: a. "All Mailboxes" b. "Inbox" (or your currently selected mailbox" c. "Entire Message" d. "From" e. "To" f. "Subject" Each of these parameters will be announced as "checked" or "unchecked" checkbox. Use VO-Space to change your selection between your current mailbox and "All Mailboxes" (either a or b), and to select between searches of "Entire Message", "From", "To", or "Subject" (entries, c, d, e, or f). As you make these changes, the search result numbers associated with the search text field in the toolbar will update and change. You can check this by using Command-Option-F followed by VO- Right Arrow. For example, if my last search checked the "From" field, I'll get 0 matches if I include "headphones" along with your name. However, if I VO-Space on "Entire message" so that this is my search region, I'll get a number of matches that are now displayed in the messages table. I can VO-Right arrow to the messages table and sort on any of the fields with VO-Shift-Backslash, such as "Date Received", "From", "Subject", or "Rank", if I want to reorder the results. If I want to save the results of my search to a smart mailbox I can press (VO-Space) the "Save" button that appears after my search parameters and before the messages table. (I never use this.) If I decide to modify my search terms, I'll press Command-Option-F and add or delete terms in my search field, and then check the results. The search procedure is very similar to the one for using Finder to search for specific files. Here's a description from the Mail Archive of how a Finder search might work (where you limit the search to a specific folder, and search by file extension or type.): http://www.mail-archive.com/macvisionaries%40googlegroups.com/msg05636.html (Re: searching) Having said all this, I have to admit that searching in mail is clunkier than searching in the Mail Archives, where I can just type in my search terms like: from:"Mary Otten" headphones or even specify a date range. In fact, I can type in any part of your name to run the search, and I can use wild cards and Boolean arguments, if I want. I can search the Mail Archive faster than I can search my own mail, which is why I really wish the mods would add viphone list to be archived at the Mail Archive site. Then, anyone could search the list.
