Re: netflix movie streams

2010-02-19 Thread Rafael Bejarano
I play them often. Starting a movie is no problem, but you can't
interact with the player's controls once it's playing. So, you can't
pause, rewind, etc.

Strangnesses with a Logitech Usb headset

2010-02-19 Thread Krister Ekstrom
Hi,
I have a problem with two Logitech Clearchat Pro usb headsets. At first i
thought there was something wrong with the first headset, because everyone
thought it was a very good headset, so i bought a new one, turns out it's the
same problem.
What happens is that the sound from the mike of the headset is very very low,
thin and screechy with not much bass at all. This is strange since i've heard
usb headsets of the same brand that sounds really good. There is also a
constant hum around 50 Hz which is what our power is at here in Sweden. This 50
Hz hum can be somewhat eluminated if i constantly hold my hand on either the
Mac or the keybord, an aluminum keyboard that i got with my Imac, but that
shouldn't be necessary, after all isn't the meaning with headsets that you
should keep hands free?
Because the mike volume is so terribly low compared to everything else, i
wonder is there any setting i should try on the Mac and if so where is it? I
have tried the settings under the system preferences/audio configuration. Mike
is on 100% volume both gain and volume so it should be very loud, but it isn't.
Do i need a preamp for this headset? Shouldn't be necessary i think since after
all it's a headset and a preamp should be built in. I can't find any solutions
to this problem and it drives me up the walls, especially since i'm going to
get interviewed next sunday and we have already made recordings with the
built-in mic, (sounded horrible) and the old usb headset, (sounded also
horrible due to the thin sound).
Any help would be most appreciated.
/Krister

help with buying transmit.

2010-02-19 Thread erik burggraaf
Hi guys, I'm trying to buy transmit for a client. Unfortunately the payment
method radio buttons arent labelled. One is obviously a credit card option
because when checked it shows edit fields related to credit card data. The
other shows nothing except the process button, and I'm wondering if theyll
expect a check in the mail if I hit that button, or if it will take me to
paypal so I can pay that way.

Any ideas?

Currently, the answer is no, but apparently Microsoft are planning to write MS
Office 2010 in CoCo which should allow for VO accessibility. Of course, it
depends on how well MS write the code etc but theoretically, MS Office 2010
will be accessible. You could also use IWork 09 which reads and writes doc
files and Excel files etc. This is Apple's office suite, and it is very
accessible. However, they still need to do a bit of work on it.

Hope this helps

SSD?

2010-02-19 Thread Yuma Antoine Decaux
Hi list,

I read that SSD's increase disk read/write speeds by a 2 multiplier, and
checked some of the options out there so that i can use the SSD for the SL OS,
but found incredibly high prices.

The best though that i found is the OCZ SDD 2.5 drive specially made for the
mac with a speed of 249MBps/Seconds for read and 170MBPS/Seconds for write.
Their 256GB model goes for about 399 which is way out of price.

Does anyone know where i can find some smaller capacity drives with about the
same R/W performance?

THanks a bunch

definitions immediately listed on spotlight and other methods

2010-02-19 Thread Yuma Antoine Decaux
Hi List,

I have started being trigger-happy with the spotlight features which i tweaked
for my liking, and though i really like the possibilities, i'd prefer going
through another method which i haven't been able to emulate. Here is the
following method:

When you have a word in text edit or mail or any 64 bit enabled app that you
want to define or find synonyms for, the sighted user can highlight the word
and press command shift D and click to get an instant popup of the above listed
definition+synonyms.

I've tried this but i get nothing appearing nor any sounds which let me know
that i've accessed the feature.

I've assigned root mouse cursor to VO cursor on my trackpad so that i can do
the job quickly but nothing happens.

Has anyone been luckier in this manipulation?

It would be an amazing shortcut when writing long papers.

Thanks, and best

Special notice to the promised resolution within a decade. They talk about VGA.
That's the resolution of a youtube video in 256 colors. If this becomes true,
it will provide in say 15 years a near XVGA resolution for people who could
benefit from the technology.

Considering also that unification of results from labs working on this+new
materials for miniaturization/heat control/bio-compatibility/upgrade frequency,
tagging along a competitive environment which itself will be fuelled by
applications using similar methods for thesighted (IE augmentative reality), we
can surely expect something unusually good, something out of sci-fi for 1990s,
coming out.

So people, enjoy the synesthesia while it lasts :)

Cheers
