Re: copy and paste IPhone

Anybody know if the accessibility of copy and paste functions will be
addressed in the next firmware update?
I heard from a friend who owns the iPhone a few days ago that
apparently Apple have incorporated a tripple hit of the home button to
launch VO from anywhere, so thought that perhaps it might not be the
only access enhancement, although that in itself is a really good one.
Not even sure when 3.1 is out, very speculative post I know, but maybe
someone knows more than I.

Undownloaded podcasts in i-tunes.

Hi.

I try to use i-tunes to download podcasts, however, even though I have set 
I-tunes to retrieve all episodes for a podcast it will only download the 
latest episode. When I go down through the songs list voiceover will 
announce undownloaded on each episode sequent to the first one in the songs 
list. Have any of you any ideas how to solve this one?
It doesn't help to press enter on each episode? Or to refresh. What else can 
I do?

Hi there, interact with the table, select the episode with the arrow  
keys, then get a contextual menu by vo-shift-m and as you arrow  
through the menu, there will be an option to download. Select this  
option by pressing enter on it, and then the podcast will download.

the mac. What I'm wundering is is there eny software I need to burn  
them so they will play in a cd player not siporting mp3 and is there

recording software suggestions

Hi,

I would like to record a podcast and need software that can record  
everything going on - input from a USB mike, what VoiceOver is saying,  
and input from line-in. Is this possible on a Mac Mini, and if so,  
what software would be best?

Eventually I also want recording software that can remove pops and  
clicks and tape hiss and split long recordings into tracks for turning  
tapes and CDs into audio files. What would be good for doing that?

Finally, I'd like to be able to record and then add sound effects or  
music tracks. Is Garage Band the best bet for tthat? Is there one  
recording program that can do all the things I'm thinking about doing,  
or will I need several?

navigon review?

hi has anyone done a navigon gps review for the iphone 3gS?

If so is it in audio or in detail i.e. if one is walking can they  
easily get information on when people are out and about if the i phone  
is locked i the pocket?

Are you looking for free recording software? Because if you are, you can use
something like Audacity, or use the software that's installed on your mac by
Apple.  If you want something besides that, you may want to look at Audio
Hijack Pro.  Audio Hijack Pro is $32.  The site for Audio Hijack Pro is:

Rogue Amoeba does have a page for their standard version of Audio Hijack,
but it's not available for purchase.  If you want to go the Audio Hijack
page, and get the link to Rogue Amoeba's legacy page where you can download

For editing, there is Sound Studio, which is $79.  However, they do
sometimes have sales.  The site is:

Well, legally you can run OSX Server in an emulator on Apple hardware. 
Why you would want to do this is another question. It gets a little 
fuzzy as to whether there would be an issue running this virtualized OSX 
on a non-Apple box and it's a pretty sure thing you're not legal running 
OSX on non-Apple hardware directly. None of these are technical 
problems, just license issues. So if you're good with Google there are 
lots of tutorials and patches to be found out on the wild wild web. 
Apparently hacking netbooks to run OSX is a popular pastime.

accessibility in version 9.  You may be able to scrape by with it
depending on the type of stuff you're trying to do.  Some kind of
hardware control surface would go a long ways toward efficiency as
it'd allow you to overlook such things as the transport controls not
being labeled, but even so, version 9 is far from what most people
would call accessible.

There have been some QuicKeys shortcuts written to assist VO users,
which have proved pretty effective on some systems, but they're still
very much a work in progress and troubleshooting without usable vision
on systems that don't play ball is practically imposible.  They were
written using Logic studio 8, but from my very breif testing they
seemed to work as well in 8.0.2 and 9.

In short, access is coming hopefully, but if you're looking for an
easy to use finished product, Logic isn't your golden ticket yet imho.

Actually running any Mac os on a non APple machine is in violation of  
the ULA.

addressbook plug ins

Hi guys, I just came across this  folder that says addressbook plug  
ins in my library.  So if there are plug ins for address book, which  
would be nice, where do you search for them, and does any one know if  
there is a lable printing one for different envelope templates?   
That'd be too handy for words.  I looked for something like that for  
eudora and thunderbird for windows for years with no luck.

Hi Hank,

I don't think that if you buy an app that turns out not to be VO  
friendly that the developer would necessarily refund the amount of  
purchase from the iTunes Store.  But you might contact the developer,  
O'Reilly Media in this case, and ask whether these book apps are  
accessible with VO on the iPhone.

Incidentally, if you're just looking for information on migrating from  
Windows, I'd guess that the Take Control book would work fine for  
you.  Reading is very easy under Preview, and you can go directly to  
the parts you're interested in.  I wouldn't know how VO treats ebooks  
in an app, or how you would navigate through links,  and search or  
jump to selected text on the iPhone.  The thing about the Take Control  
guides is that it's very easy to go in with a specific question and  
find an answer.  For that reason, even some people who don't like  
reading manuals like these guides.

If you read down that thread using the Safari access key shortcut for  
next post in thread, Control-N, you'll find my post on how to amend  
this to print out mailing labels instead of envelopes; it's basically  
done by changing your selection on the pop up button for "Style" on  
the print menu to "Mailing Labels" instead of "Envelopes".

Then, you VO-Right to the layout tab to set the size of envelope or  
labels.  This can be done (in the case of labels) either by choosing a  
standard Avery Label product code from a pop up button, or by reading/ 
setting the corresponding size information.  There's a custom option  
that allows you to input any size you like.  You can also choose  
"Lists" for an option to print out selected address book fields (that  
you check) and customize personal lists.

You don't need to use address book plug ins to print envelope  
templates, since that's already built into your Mac via the Address  
Book and Print commands.  If you want to look over some address book  
plug ins you can try one of the sites (Hawk Wings) listed in the  
appendix of the "Take Control of AppleMail in Leopard" guide:

Check the two linked pages.  There are plug ins such as the one from  
Google that links to the Google maps site for directions. (I haven't  
tried these).
