Re: Criminals

I don’t usually laugh at messages on the macports list, but today is an
exception.

Can someone please fix the "Melanies nails product” issue and stop becoming
rich with your FREE SUPPORT…?

Re: Terminal ^D

2020-05-03 Thread William Parducci
Split screen in OSX terminal should be ⌘-D. Ctrl-D is `exit` by default.

If that’s not the case for you, I suggest checking if
Preferences->Profiles->[profile]->Keyboard has a mapping.

pdf2htmlex fontforge dependency...?

2021-07-06 Thread William Parducci
Hi,

I am trying to install pdf2htmlex. I have run just completed full update to
make sure all installs are at the latest version. It seems that there is a
broken dependency in the port, but perhaps there’s a source pkg (that I can’t
find) lurking about…? Any suggestions appreciated.

thanks

Thanks for the feedback. I subsequently ran into the update bug after I sent
the note. Did a clean reinstall of the command line tools (13.1) and things are
working nicely.

gimp on HS

2017-11-12 Thread William Parducci
Hi,

I’m trying to do a clean install gimp on High Sierra and am running into an
issue with clang. Given that it’s in /usr/bin I assume that this is an HS
related issue. Is this a known issue? (FYI I downloaded latest macPort today
and ran selfupdate first thing.)

thanks!

It sounds like you may have mistyped the command and deleted some or all of
your home directory.

I am guessing by the urgency of your request you do not have a backup. If that
is the case you are going to need to find a utility that will locate unlinked
files to “undelete” them since command line deletes have no concept of Trash.

I have not used any of these but here are some places to start:

https://www.cleverfiles.com/undelete-mac.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMItpOT9-373AIVEdbACh1umQgFEAAYASAAEgJ1y_D_BwE
https://www.ibeesoft.com/data-recovery-software/mac-data-recovery.html

For future reference NEVER issue sudo rm -rf in a multiline command. It is just
asking for stuff like this to happen.

Another option for consideration is to put in a disclaimer along the lines of
“DO NOT ATTEMPT UNLESS YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT THIS DOES AND THE RISKS INVOLVED.”
on pages that have OS command line executables and/or recompose the commands to
individual lines so as to—in theory—make them less prone to misapplication:

$ sudo rm -rf /opt/local
$ sudo rm -rf /Applications/DarwinPorts
$ sudo rm -rf /Applications/MacPorts
$ sudo rm -rf /Library/LaunchDaemons/org.macports.*
$ sudo rm -rf /Library/Receipts/DarwinPorts*.pkg
$ sudo rm -rf /Library/Receipts/MacPorts*.pkg
$ sudo rm -rf /Library/StartupItems/DarwinPortsStartup
$ sudo rm -rf /Library/Tcl/darwinports1.0
$ sudo rm -rf /Library/Tcl/macports1.0
$ sudo rm -rf ~/.macports

Re: ffmpeg (graphviz) Not building on Sequoia

2024-10-30 Thread William Parducci
Quite possibly.

I did try this as one of the steps before reinstalling (without luck) to
massage where compiler was looking for stuff:

$ export CPATH=/Library/Developer/CommandLineTools/usr/include/c++/v1:$CPATH
$ export LIBRARY_PATH=/Library/Developer/CommandLineTools/usr/lib:$LIBRARY_PATH

FWIW Overall, I like the “migrate” function. First time I tried it.

thanks

ffmpeg (graphviz) Not building on Sequoia

2024-10-30 Thread William Parducci
Posting this in case someone else runs into it after upgrading to Sequoia:

I just upgraded to Sequoia on my Intel i9 MacBook Pro and tried to perform a
migrate.

Most things worked fine but ffmpeg hiccuped due to graphviz not being available.

Checking the logs and t it seems to be a byproduct of not having iostream
available.

:info:build solve_VPSC.cpp:20:10: fatal error: 'cassert' file not found
:info:build In file included from20 | constraint.cpp#:i19n:
:info:build ../../lib/vpsc/constraint.h:21:10: clude
:info:build   |  ^
:info:build fatal error: 'iostream' file not found
:info:build21 | #include
:info:build   |  ^~
:info:build csolve_VPSC.cpp:19:10: fatal error: 'iostream' file not found
:info:build19 | #include
:info:build   |  ^~
:info:build In file included from variable.cpp:16:
:info:build ../../lib/vpsc/variable.h:18:10: fatal error: 'vector' file not
found
:info:build18 | #include 10
:info:build :   | fatal error:  ^~~~'set' file not found
:info:build26 | #igenerate-constraints.cpp:19n:clude <10s: etfatal error:
>'algorithm' file not found
:info:build   |  ^
:info:build19 | #include
:info:build   |  ^~~
:info:build 1 error generated.
:info:build 1 error generated.
:info:build 1 error generated.
:info:build 1 error generated.
:info:build make[3]: *** [pairingheap/PairingHeap.lo] Error 1

After trying a lot of things I came across the solution:

$ sudo rm -rf /Library/Developer/CommandLineTools
$ sudo xcode-select --install

Some times Start Over is the best approach. 🙂

P.S. I only have the Apple command line tools installed (not the full XTools
IDE).
